Total: Abilities: 88 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 218 / Defenses: 22 (344)

-Kumbakarna is a terrifying Giant and Ravana's brother, who is often put into a deep sleep by the Gods. It's suggested that "careless dimensional travellers" could stumble upon his resting place, or that Ravana will reawaken him when a big battle is looming. He's simple-minded by God standards, but remains mightily powerful, having nine attacks and doing +14 damage.

Enemy (Krishna)- Kansa wishes to repay Krishna for killing him centuries iago.

Total: Abilities: 114 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 18 / Powers: 187 / Defenses: 13 (332)

-Kansa is said to be a Demigod who was Krishna's main adversary on Earth, fighting him countless times until he was finally beaten to death. This could have been the end of him, but his pathological hatred kept his spirit alive long enough to be captured by the impressed Asuras, who placed it into an even stronger body, then gave him hundreds of years of training to become an ultimate God-Killer. He is meant to be the ruler of the Asuras.

-Kansa is very strong and has a lot of raw toughness, being about a match for Krishna, but well below the Divine Triad. No fancy powers, though.

The Asurkan

Post by Jabroniville »

ASURKAN R.C.C.: ST +5, STA +8, AGI +2, FIGHTING +3, INT -1, PRE -2, Dodge +2, Comprehend 3 (Languages), Flight 5 (Winged), Darkvision, See the Invisible, Invisibility, Leaping 2, Teleport 8, Dimensional Travel 2, Immunity (Fire Damage, Half-Effect on Energy Damage, Limited to 4 Minutes Once Per Hour) [77]

-The Asurkan are the minions of Kansa, looking like smaller versions of him (they created his new body thinking it was perfect- a giant version of their own). They love to eat humans & D-Bees. They're powerful, but not overwhelmingly so, doing about +7 unarmed and having about 140 M.D.C. on average.

Nagas

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

NAGAS R.C.C.: ST +5, STA +7, AGI +2, INT +1, PRE +1, Slithering, Regeneration 4, Close Attack 1, Athletics +2, Extended Scent 2, Acute Scent, Darkvision, Tracking- Scent, "Venomous Bite" Strength-Damage +0 Linked to Affliction 7 (Fort; Impaired/Disabled/Paralyzed) [55]

-Nagas are a race of snake-like beings that have been used as servants by the Indian Gods for centuries- they are natives of another dimension who worship them or some Aztec Gods, and are neither innately good nor evil. Their society is matriarchal, led by a queen, with the whole clan caring for eggs and raising the children together- it is considered taboo and "selfish" for mothers to jealously raise her own young by herself. They are light M.D.C. beings and not actually that bad for Player Characters, being ST 7 and STA 9 in general- about Rifts standard, and their Paralytic venom only lasts a short while and isn't broken, either. They are typically low-tech but are intelligent enough to learn to use anything.

Daityas

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

DAITYAS R.C.C.: ST +2, STA +7, INT -1, Swimming 3, Parry +1, Darkvision, Ranged Touch (Underwater), Immunity (Cold, Poison- Half-Effect Only), Immunity (Pressure), "Psionics" (3 powers; +1 every 2 levels) [25 + Psionics]

ROYAL DAITYAS R.C.C.: ST +4, STA +12, AGI +1, INT +2, AWA +1, Swimming 3, Parry +1, Darkvision, Ranged Touch (Underwater), Immunity (Cold, Poison- Half-Effect Only), Immunity (Pressure), "Psionics" (3 powers; +1 every 2 levels) [49 + Psionics]

-These are "monstrous creatures of magic" drawn as a ripped humanoid with pointy fingernails and sinewy, complex wings. They are aquatic monsters who are sworn enemies of the gods, and live in a city that breaks all known rules of the game by teleporting anywhere and any TIME the rulers wish to go! So they make their living teleporting all over the Multiverse to steal stuff, then bail when things get tough. They disdain technology and prefer Psionics & Magic.

-Average Daityas are another low-level M.D.C. race typically doing +7 unarmed with 100 M.D.C., but Royal Daityas are MUCH stronger, having upwards of 500 M.D.C. to start. Though the book suggests they can challenge the Gods, they are nowhere near that level.

Dakini

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

DAKINI R.C.C.: ST +7, STA +7, AGI +2, FIGHTING +4, INT -2, PRE +1, Dodge +4, Claws & Teeth +2 (Split), Morph (Human Woman), Darkvision, See the Invisible, Invisibility, Regeneration 5, Regrows Limbs, Immunity (Fire, Half-Effect), Comprehend 3 (Languages) [75]

-Dakini are the evil servants of Kali, and look like evil sharp-toothed ladies in form-fitting metallic armor. Their favorite things arer to spread terror and brutalize humans- the mimic beautiful women to lure travellers in, then lash out and kill their prey, drinking the blood. They are vampire-like enough that anti-undead fighters can be tricked, and find that none of their stuff works! These are very powerful, being about PL 10 each (+11 damage, +9 to hit with about 120 M.D.C.). They are natural enemies of Psi-Stalkers for some reason.

Kravyads the Devourers

Post by Jabroniville »

KRAVYADS THE DEVOURERS R.C.C.: ST +8, STA +6, AGI +2, FIGHTING +6, INT -3, AWA -2, PRE -2, Dodge +3, Tusks & Claws +2 (Split), Regeneration 5, Regrow Limbs, Darkvision, See the Invisible, Invisibility [56]

-Not given any art, these are "boar-like" minor demons who love the taste of human flesh and are mindless berserkers. They shun technology to the point of running from energy weapons, but can be more easily led by a powerful boss like a Rakshasa, Dybbuk or Greater Demon. For whatever reason, these big, stupid morons also have incredible God-like powers in the whole "See the Invisible/Turn Invisible At Will" thing and are fantastic fighters who do +10 damage & have similar Toughness. Overall, each one is like PL 10.5.

The Evil Immortals

Post by Jabroniville »

THE EVIL IMMORTALS:
-Yes, they actually call them that. They're a loose confederation of Neuron Beasts (the enemy D-Bees listed way back in the first Rifts Sourcebook)- the mysterious Shiva the Annihilator has unified many of them. Because of their multiple arms, they have been associated with some Indian Gods and are now masquerading as them. There are 17 Evil Immortals in all, and their actual leader is an (ugh) Alien Intelligence listed after Shiva.

-The false Shiva is immensely stronger than regular Neuron Beasts, and has "God of War"-tier attacks, with ten +7 to hit. Largely akin to true Gods and more than any Olympian. He's flat-out evil like the rest of his race, loving vicisection, setting up cults, etc. But he aspired to more, much to the amusement of his fellow kind. He appealed to an alien intelligence for more power and started the Evil Immortals.

-Devy'Orhal is a typical Alien Intelligence- vastly-powerful and loves to torture and kill anyone weaker than itself. It plans on betraying the Evil Immortals as soon as it can, but requires them for its purposes. Trapped in a mega-prison, it requires the Immortals to cast a huge ritual that can expend hundreds of thousands of P.P.E. in an insant to break it free. Devy'Orhal will then hide out on the Indian subcontinent and use the Immortals as its minions, ultimately using the area as the seat of a new space empire.

The Norse Gods

Post by Jabroniville »

THE NORSE GODS:
-And now we finally come to the Norse, the other of the "Big Two" fantasy pantheons that writers love to use. Here, they are mostly associated with Germanic kingdoms, with the theory being that they were worshipped by Germanic tribes, then forced up north (helped by Herakles beating Thor), but came back for revenge when the Goths and such invaded Rome. But Odin & Zeus met and stared at each other for ages, realizing that a conflict between them would leave one dead and the other too weak to lead, crushing both pantheons. They left without a word. They invaded Ireland with the Vikings, but failed to beat the Celtic Gods- Lugh nearly killed Thor with his spear!

Carella works to separate the Aesir from the Vanir, stating that the Vanir could be resentful about the Aesir beating them down and supplanting them. Their enemies include the Splugorth, Vampires and Mechanoids.

The Norse are drawn by Thomas Miller & Kevin Long- Miller gives them a "normal bearded guys in tunics" look that mostly sucks and gives off zero sense of grandeur, while Long uses a "1980s Comics" style that mostly works, but he only draws a few characters. They look appropriate, if a trifle dull.

Total: Abilities: 152 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 22 / Powers: 163 / Defenses: 15 (352)

-Odin "was less worshipped than feared", known for being over-critical, fickle, emotional, vindictive and selfish. He might help human kingdoms fight their enemies (especially the NGR), but driven by a lust for power, he will attempt to take over wherever he lands.

-Odin is typically mighty, but less so than other Skyfathers- he's got "only" 86,000 M.D.C. and has a basic eight attacks and only +5 to hit- this puts him below Zeus and most of the other heavy hitters. However, he has way more Magical ability than is normal (said to be an aspect of the tortures self-mutilation he underwent to gain all knowledge). Gungir has a bunch of Anti-Weapon properties and assorted feats that are tricky to reflect in M&M, but is quite potent, at least.

He still got a bunch of the little details wrong, or just flat-out changed some of them. Like, sure, they're fitting their mythological powers of "holy shit, that guy did what? Why the hell are these dudes throwing around planet-busting spells and weapons like they're party favors?!?!" but the relationships between them seem a bit off: Like, for example, Parvati was the one who chased after Shiva, and is literally the goddess of marital bliss and fidelity because of that. Her beginning to fall in love with Agni doesn't really track with the myths, given how obsessed Parvati was with Shiva. Heck, Kali isn't also just some spawn of Parvati's, but literally just Parvati flying into a berserk rage and incarnating herself as righteous fury and bloodthirsty violence, drawing on the fact that she's basically Shiva's wife and thus also a Goddess of Destruction... when she chooses to be, because she's otherwise perfectly happy being a peaceful homemaker and devoted wife whose presence effectively enhanced Shiva's ability to do his job as a God of Time and Destruction. The idea that Parvati and Shiva have a love/hate relationship is kinda ridiculous, considering how their most significant tiff pretty much involved Shiva's inability to knock when entering the bathrooms in his own house (which resulted in Ganesha's origin story).

Seriously, that was pretty much the only significant issue I can remember them ever having in their marriage. That and the fact that Shiva is sometimes really focused in his meditations and is super-serious about them, but needs reminding that he's also a family-man and needs to spend some time doing something other than just doing his ascetic-hermit-thing. Otherwise, they're basically supposed to be very much in love with each other.

Though, granted, Shiva being super-edgy and all about destroying and fighting things isn't in character either - the guy's the ascetic. A warrior-sage, sure, but still, his whole deal is that he tends to just sit around on Mount Kailash, meditating and cultivating the power of the cosmos to ensure that everything is proceeding in accordance with universal regulations... and then obliterating any opposition to Dharma through subtle manipulations or overt, all-encompassing destructive force so that the old is cleared out to make way for new creations. Also, the Pinaka is the name of Shiva's bow, not his Trident. His Trident is just called the "Trishula of Shiva"... which basically just means "Trident of Shiva" because there was never any need for it to have a special name — as far as the ancient Hindus were concerned, Shiva had it first, and all others are named after his. And the whole "could go berserk at any moment" thing is just... way out of proportion. Sure, he's got a temper, but that's mostly because the myths that involve his anger usually involve someone doing something so outrageously stupid or evil that they piss him off and invite the fury of a God of Destruction... whose incarnations/alter-egos also include Rudra, a God of Storms, Earthquakes, Tornadoes, Various Calamities and Natural Disasters. He Also happens to be a God of Time on account of the fact that he's basically entropy personified, the universal destruction and dissolution of all that exist as time moves forward so that all is destroyed and rebuilt anew. Does he have a temper that tends to feature prominently in the mythology? Yes. Why? Because otherwise, he's just sitting on his mountain, minding his own business and not actually doing much that people can see because he's busy meditating and organizing things on a cosmic scale beyond human comprehension. So myths can only really feature him if someone does something to piss him off (thus causing him to act) or do something impressive to please him (in which case he usually is pretty lavish with rewards).

Similarly Ravana doesn't hate all the Indian Gods - he just hates the Devas because the Devas tend to be assholes to Rakshasas. But, Ravana is otherwise one of the biggest devotees of Shiva - this is a major deal: Ravana got his sword "Chandrahas/Laughing-Moon" from Shiva as a gift after he earned redemption when Shiva humbled him for his arrogance and converted Ravana into his devotee - and even got blessings and spell-knowledge from Brahma once. I doubt any game books ever bothered to give him skill in music, do they? The guy's famous as a musician too, for a demon-lord, as he is legendarily skilled at singing and in playing the veena (it was part of how he earned his redemption and Shiva's sword, you know).

Also, Skanda is a spear-wielder in Hindu mythology. The sword-wielding is from the Buddhist take on him. He also rides a peacock and is otherwise quite awesome as a philosopher-warrior, poet-saint and all-round demon slayer. Not sure about the whole "can't use magic" thing, but him being a martial-arts badass tracks. Him being obsessed with combat is a bit weird, though... like mentioned, he's famous as a muse for poets and a reknowned philosopher (though his brother, Ganesha, has him beat on that front in terms of scholarly legend).

And like you mentioned, the write-up they gave for Saraswati just does not track with the mythology as far as I can tell...

That's about it off the top of my head, to be honest. I'd need to do a deep-dive later, but yeah... Carella did his best to make them super-powerful... but screwed up a bunch on the details, damn it!
