-Genma is an odd-looking character from Toshinden 4, where he is on a team with Miyabi & Bang-Boo. Sporting a pair of glasses visible through a strange mask, he is said to be a myth going back 2000 years in China- a storytelling member of a Chinese assassin clan (possibly the same one as Fo Fai's), who had discovered the secret to eternal life. But doing so cost him all his emotions- he no longer has a conscience and begins to kidnap young children and turn them into evil murderers who do his bidding. Among them was Miyabi, whom he trained to be a young ninja. He now wields the Genbu Shield, probably having killed Chaos from BAT 2-3 to get it. Learning that it was one of the Four Sacred Arms, he's now out to gain the others.

-Genma fights using a Blast, a Freezing attack, and a charging one- more special attacks include summoning a demon to shove the opponent into the ground, and another blast that lifts the opponent.

-Miyabi is a pink-haired Ninja Girl showing a TON of cleavage, and is one of many children that Genma abducted and trained as his personal army of assassins. Joining his trio in Toshinden 4, she wields a huge Shuriken and smaller sword (kept in a sheath behind her head)- Genma was impressed with her techinique and brainwashed her to be his agent. Her backstory includes being made to fight many people in the US, including Rook Castle- she is the mysterious girl who defeated him in the past- both have felt destined to meet again ever since.

-Miyabi is a standard fast attacker with fast-firing Shurikens, a giant one to do the most damage, a smaller Kodachi to do lighter slashing damage, and a special move for both the dagger and unarmed damage. She also has a more powerful Blast as a Super Move so I left that in.

-Bang-Boo is a bit out there as a Battle Arena Toshinden design... all these wild anime dudes and then one of the characters is just a grey robot? He's got two cannons for arms and is an "almost flawless warrior", joining Genma and Miyabi as an assassin team in Toshinden 4. He was meant to be a machine of war, but was instead made a pilot, but was given orders to obey Genma for some reason. But was also informed that if Genma actually managed to gather all Four Sacred Arms, then Bang-Boo was to kill him.

-Bang-Boo is a very strong, slow character, easy to hit but hard to injure. His hardest attacks consist of unblockable projectiles you'll have to dodge, making him somewhat potent (equal at range and in melee- rare for a Fighting Game character). His Diving Cannon can also be shot into the ground, riding up towards the opponent (the Genocide Cannon), or a missile can be fired from a distance and slowly track towards the opponent (Sybarite Cannon). He can also send out a shockwave-like pulse (Beast Shoot) that affects even side-stepping characters. He can also summon machinery that turns him into a Multiattacking Laser Blaster with the "Giga Phantom", at the cost of wasting a turn. He has no normal Specials that involve unarmed attacks- just a shoulder-charging Super Move.

-Zero is the mysterious, red-clad Sub-Boss of Toshinden 4. He is an artificial being created by the Gerard Foundation, and reveled in destruction. He discovered some secret power one time, and is now looking for a special suit to increase that power in himself. However, he was imprisoned by Master and the rest of the Himitsu Kessha during his search, and was freed by Eiji Shinjo. He now joins Eiji's team as an executive of his Foundation, hunting for the Four Sacred Arms, though it's rumored that it's for his own personal gain.

-Zero is a slow powerhouse-type character, wielding a broadsword. His Super Moves are all "Summons" (ie. Blasts- they can even be countered by other projectiles!), lashing out at and grabbing foes.

-A busty, cleavage-baring Angel with Princess Leia Hair, Eos is another member of Eiji's Sub-Boss Squad. She was created via biotechnology, and is clearly inspired by Uranus, the Sub-Boss of Battle Arena Toshinden 2. She can predict the moves of her opponents, and was created by the Gerard Foundation... which I think is just another name for the Himitsu Kessha- alarming even her bosses like Master. Master & Uranus sealed off Eos's power to keep her from disrupting their own plans, but Eiji Shinjo found and freed her, asking for her help in sealing away evil. She pledged loyalty to Eiji as her new master. She was given the Seiryu Spear, Mondo's old weapon and one of the Four Sacred Arms- when she held it, the spear transformed into a beautiful jeweled rod.

-Like Zero, Eos is rather slow but powerful (even her projectile- a huge energy dragon- leaves her more vulnerable than normal Blasts do). However, even her slow Flight gives her a HUGE benefit, allowing her to avoid attacks handily and divebomb from above. Super Moves include "Hyperion" (a Burst Area Electrical attack), "Astraea" (a dragon with homing-like tendencies), and "Dionysos" (a spinning staff attack that ends with a dragon coming out).

And that finally does it for Toshinden builds! All because of pressure to not leave an old fighting game set unfinished, despite the fact that most of the Toshinden 3-4 characters were uninteresting! At least I'm done and never have to do Toshinden builds again, lol.

Next up... a set of weirdo villains form Heroes For Hire, a late '90s failed book that's more or less a modern version of The Champions, aka "Well we got a bunch of characters who aren't in a regular book- let's make a team book!".

-Strike Force One are a band of clones of the Heroes For Hire from John Ostrander's late Heroes For Hire book, which can be described as "If the Island of Misfit Toys was a comic". Seriously, Ostrander more or less took every semi-important character without a regular book, slapped them all together, and made it a team book- it combined Luke Cage, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Black Knight, Jim "Human Torch" Hammond, Scott "Ant-Man" Lang and a new White Tiger, among others. This sort of thing can lead to a lot of freedom and intereesting stuff (The Fearless Defenders was an all-female version of this concept, and Ostrander's own Suicide Squad was a 1980s version with mostly villains), as the infamous editorial control won't likely rear its head and creators can do whatever they want, but it runs the risk of early cancellation... like what happened to Heroes For Hire.

In any case, Alpha Flight villain The Master of the World (SERIOUSLY- again, it's an unused character who was supposed to be a big deal, but like who wanted THIS GUY to make a comeback?) expected to be able to easily take over the world, but needed elite agents to carry out his will. And so he had his mind-controlled pawn, the CEO of Oracle Inc., gather DNA from the Heroes For Hire (save Luke Cage, whom the Master already considered an ally) and form adult cloned bodies out of them. He had their minds blank so he could transplant his own personality onto them. "Dragon Fist" appears to stymie Iron Fist in their first meeting, and the H4H team (along with Thena of the Eternals) heads to the Master's island to bring back Luke (who was being manipulated into the alliance), and they are immediately confronted by "Strike Force One"- their own clones, as well as a mind-controlled Hammond.

The Strike Forcers are at first super-ruthless and hold off their counterparts, with Thena dealing with the Torch, but She-Hulk suggests they all switch opponents- this lets Shulkie & Hercules team up to take Behemoth out, and then the others fall. Mostly off-panel, in fact! What happens to them after this story is unknown- the moral standing on clones in the Marvel Universe is dubious, even if they are artificial people.

So Strike Force One only appears in two issues of one of the least-popular books of the era, and are so unexplained that one of them goes unnamed and it's not entirely clear who she's a clone of (likely Thena, but they don't say). By having the Master's arrogant personality slapped onto them, they're more or less deliberately supposed to be one-offs who are unimportant, too. Given how uncreative most of their names are, this is fitting.

Given that other rapid growth clones in the MU have had problems with rapid decay, it's reasonable to conclude that all of these died soon after their singular appearances.

-Amazon shares a name with a one-off member of the X.S.E. in the future. She was a clone of She-Hulk, but notably didn't even engage in the battle! For whatever reason, she just bails and leaves She-Hulk to fight Behemoth instead! The bio-writer on Marvunapp suggests she might be the only member of the team still around. We never learn her capabilities.

I really liked this book when it came out, the armoured version of Iron Fist's costume in it is still one of my favourites of his and while the majority of Strike Force One didn't look great I do remember at the time thinking Demigod (the Hercules clone) looked 'cool'

As a side note on the Battle Arena Toshinden version for Game Boy, that and the Samurai Shodown adaptation on the same system where excellent examples of how to adapt to the medium. Obviously, it turned into a 2D game. But, they also turned it into a super deformed art style, since larger sprites really didn't work on that tiny screen, as could be seen from the various Mortal Kombat adaptations. As a result, you got pretty fluid and fun gameplay that adapted a lot of the spirit of the original work.

-Behemoth is a clone of the Hulk, who was not a Heroes For Hire member. Unusually, She-Hulk is thus opposed by a clone of her cousin instead of her own clone, Amazon, who disappears before the fight starts. Behemoth is annoyed that he will not be able to test himself against his own counterpart, and instead punches She-Hulk in the stomach. When the team all switches opponents, She-Hulk & Hercules team up and knock Behemoth unconscious.

-Behemoth is PL 11 with area effects and PL 10 overall, owing to being able to hold off She-Hulk for a significant chunk of time and requiring Hercules's assistance to KO.
