Vanguard Academy OOC Thread

Post by Tattooedman »

Greetings everyone.

So after just over a year of not running a game due to a lot of RL issues, I have gotten pretty much everything properly handled and feel ready to resume GMing. So with that in mind this is an interest check for a Hero High styled game. If you're thinking something between X-Men Evolution & My Hero Academia then you've got the right idea (at least I hope as I've only watched about half of the anime so far, but anyways). The setting is my own homebrew, Earth 75 (the T-verse), the PCs will be new students to the school for super powered teens, the Vanguard Academy.

I included the setting link so everyone could take a look over some of the characters I've made for the setting and be able to see the short list of House Rules I use (because, for example, I handle skill costs abit different than RAW). Just to be clear, it would be a 3e game with the characters being built as PL 8, 120 pp.

I'm looking to recruit around 8 PCs total, although if I only end up with 6 or 7 I'm fine with that.

While I am pretty open to character or power concepts, for this game (at the moment) I'm not allowing aliens or alien tech to be used as I've got nothing worked up for the realm of space in the setting yet. Anything else would be handled on a case-by-case basis. I'm also a fan of everyone having a niche to fill in the group (the strong one, the tech person, the sneaky one and so on), so something to keep in mind if we get to character submissions.

So? Who wants to play?

~Edit~ I forgot to mention that the school supplies students with Combat "training" suit that doesn't cost anything when building the characters. It's stats are as follows;

Vanguard Academy Uniform:
Feature 3 [Commlink, GPS, Watch]
Immunity 2 [Environmental Cold, Environmental Heat]
Protection 4

The ranks of Protection don't have to be 4, it can be less as I allow such things to stack with Powers for Toughness Checks. However the ranks cannot exceed 4.

The PCs:
Whisper [Beta Class] - Doctor Malsyn
Skew [Gamma Class] - Flynnarrel
Sery Cmok [Delta Class] - Tony Jones
Indigo [Gamma Class] - jmucchiello
Violet [Delta Class] - RainOnTheSun
Max Butler [Gamma Class] - Arkrite
Mesh [Delta Class] - Neo-Paladin
Stormdancer [Delta Class] - pathfinderq1
Christopher Butler [Gamma Class] - Shock

Other Submissions:
Peppy - Prof Weird
ReMo - Otter
Shift (III) – Plan b
Djinn - Vivid

NPCs:
Dennis Sloane [Gamma Class] [by kenseido]

The Vanguard Academy Layout:

Sounds fun to me. I'd make someone for it, although they'd probably have a lot of Persona in them since I've been playing those video games a lot lately.

Are you expecting everyone to be playing 13-14 years old Freshmen?

First off, thank all of you for your interest. I'll switch this over to a recruitment thread soon.

Not specifically, but if you want to I have no problem with it. The characters just need to be the age within the high school age range (13 to 18). The PCs are just new to the school.

FWIW, the two high school age M&M characters I have immediately on hand are a class president-type brick centered around impervious and interpose, and a semi-delinquent whose specialty is ranged Will attacks (mind bullets! That's telekinesis, Kyle). So if either of those sounds particularly interesting, I could update it for the house rules. Or I could always make someone new.

Either of those two sound fine by me. It's your choice to adapt whichever one to the house rules you want or just build a new character altogether. I'm easy like that.

I've never played 2e, so could you remind me how Impervious and Penetrating work in that edition?

Also, is the Academy International? I saw you said no aliens, but other than that can PCs come from anywhere on earth?
