GM - Park

With the tarp extended, and Avian hoping to herd people in, you manage to get everyone under cover. Occasionally, after the thud of a particularly large hailstone, there's the sound of a few stitches popping, particularly as the snow and ice starts accumulating along the fabric, but it is holding. The general hubbub of voices continues as people come to grips with what's happening. There's occasional whimpers of pain from people who got hit by hailstones, but so far it doesn't look like there's any major injuries. Although... if this is happening in other places in the city, there's likely going to be casualties.

As people start huddling closer together to avoid being around the edges, you start to hear the rumbles of discontent, people complaining about pushing. So far, it hasn't erupted into anything more serious, but the combination of the cold and the close quarters seems to be putting people in bad temper.

GM - Shopping District

Overdrive's shots easily pierce the wheels of the bus, creating a larger patch of friction against the accumulating snow and ice, but also reducing the driver's ability to control the skid. You can see the driver frantically pulling the wheel from one side to the next, and realizing that it's not making much of a difference any more.

Meanwhile, Snowdrift easily clears the other pedestrians and flies up to try to apply his flight and strength to stop the bus.
OOC wrote:Snowdrift, make a power check (1d20+8 for your Strength) against DC 14. For every degree of success, you'll be able to slow the bus down a rank from Speed 4. And go ahead and give me an Acrobatics check against DC 14 to be able to get yourself braced against the bus without actually getting smacked by it. Failure will result in a DC 19 Toughness save. Success by less than three ranks is DC 17. Further success avoids damage.

Only parts of this are in the adventure. I'll admit I'm winging (no pun intended) the effects of shooting out the tires, and the difficulty of lining yourself up with the moving bus.

Snowdrift
HP: 1
Status: Normal

Snowdrift successfully got the path in front of the bus cleared of pedestrians and flew over to the bus, lined himself up and started applying pressure to start slowing it down. He definitely felt the bus slow but stayed with it hoping to slow it down completely.

Avian
HP: 1
Status: Normal

As Avian is dropping off more civilians he can see that people are becoming agitated. He addresses the crowd:

"Please can we all stay calm, this is only temporary and we will find somewhere else to take shelter soon. Just keep each other safe. I understand you are confused and scared, but please be sensible."

Persuasion check:Persuasion 8 (+10): 1D20+10 = [17]+10 = 27

Avian flies over to Mirror Maiden/Desirae Draper

"If you can keen this tarp up and try and keep the crowd calm I will try and find someone safer. Be back as soon as possible."

Avian will fly around the park searching for busses or other forms of large people carriers. He will also look for nearby buildings or an amphitheatre with a large stage.
Happy to use a Hero Point.

Mirror Maiden
HP: 1
Status: Normal

Maiden shot Avian a nod of agreement as she continued to levitate the tarp. Unfortunately, it was going to give way soon and she needed to do her part in finding a replacement shelter. She scanned the perimeter quickly before locking her sights on a patch of trees nearby. Perhaps she could use her telekinesis to bend the trees to make a canopy.

Noticing the distraught crowd, Maiden made a blanket broadcast to all civilians within the park with her keen telepathy.

"Please, try to keep calm. We'll find shelter soon enough, and if not, we'll make some!"
Persuasion Check: _: 1D20+11 = [6]+11 = 17

Maiden's attempting to create a shelter and keep the tarp stable at the same time! :)

GM

Snowdrift adroitly matches speed with the now-skidding bus, finds a likely handhold, and then sets his feet to the ground. Despite his strength, the force involved was immense. He's fairly certain he could have picked up the bus from a standstill, or perhaps slowed it on a track, but the unpredictability of its movement, and the need to shift handholds as parts of the bus deformed under his hands, hampered his efforts. Under the sound of yelling from people in the bus, and the feel of twisting metal under his hands, he glances back to see that they're still approaching the sports store. On either side of him, scared people crammed in doorways seemingly whipped by as the bus still moved at a decent commuting clip.

GM - Mirror Maiden

With Avian's glib assurance followed by the direct action of Mirror Maiden continuing to shelter people, and build shelters from the surrounding trees, the fighting turns more into grumbles, and you can see where people are talking, trying to figure out how to best distribute snatched picnic blankets and sweaters that had been secured around waists more as a sartorial prop than as any response to the weather. For now, the people are safe from the hail, and the trees you are uprooting and piling in a rough hemisphere will hopefully lock into place... vague memories of childhood books where explorers or natives wove houses together from underbrush pop into your head, but you're starting to realize they may have left out a few details. Also, the cold is beginning to get to even you now, and you can see that the bare flesh on some of the people out there are turning various shades of red and white and faint blue as their body tries to redistribute temperature to vital systems via their blood.
OOC wrote:TheMadDadder, can you make an Intellect check for building a shelter from the trees? In the absence of some sort of relevant Expertise, it's probably going to be a bit on the crude side, but with a DC 15 check, you should be able to make something stable enough for now, and which will block out the worst of the wind.

GM - Avian

As you fly out into the weather, you start to realize just how bad it's getting. Your physiology — you used to refer to it as your unique physiology before you heard stories of a winged villain named Talona who attacked Grant Conglomerates claiming that the pollution of their factories was killing her people — has left you inured to the cold, but despite your keen eyes, things get hazy within a few dozen feet, and the driving wind is making it harder than usual to keep course. Within the park, you do find an auditorium, currently occupied by a gaggle of what looks like boy scouts and girl scouts, who've managed to create a fairly contained fire in the center to provide warmth.

Somewhat more worrying is that, while you find buses on the roads, they seem currently bogged down in the sudden ice and snow-drifts, with most just sitting in place, puffing out exhaust as their heaters work overtime to keep those inside warm. But you know that can't last forever... not in this sort of weather. Still, there are a few that seem to have been abandoned. If you could clear a path for the bus, you could probably either try to drive the bus to where your refugees are, or try to guide them to the bus itself. The next question, of course, is where to take them...

GM - Mirror Maiden

It's a matter of minutes to build the first shelter... which collapses. The second shelter fares about as well. After coming to realize that this might be a bit more difficult than you expected, you start piling the trees around the raised tarp, which at least seems to have cut down on the wind whipping through, although it's still extremely cold within your improvised shelter.

GM - Snowdrift / Overdrive

Slowly, slowly, the bus creeps to a halt. Snowdrift has a direct view of the frightened faces inside moving to celebration as you get the bus to halt just before Peddleton Sports. Amongst the cheers, the front door of the store opens just enough for a man clad in winter clothes to step out. He extends one gloved hand.
"Lou Peddleton, of Peddleton sports," he says, his voice a flat Midwestern accent, but you can hear a definite gratitude, "Would have been a real pain to replace that glass... not to mention all of the people inside." He motions towards the doors.
"I can put these guys up and... you're not cold in that, are you?" He motions to Snowdrift's costume, "'Cause I have winter gear in the back... hadn't been able to get them picked up for the warehouse just yet."

Along the road, you can see people pressing up against the windows of the open businesses that they crammed themselves into as the weather continues in a wintry storm which is progressively piling up snow with a thin sheen of ice. It's pretty clear that this isn't stopping any time soon, and with your knowledge of heating and cooling systems from building your Frozen Hilt that the load on the system, particularly if things were spun down over the summer, is going to hit a critical point soon.

Mirror Maiden
HP:1

With Avian's instructions, it was time to move the distressed crowd. Maiden would use her telepathy to project her voice to not only the civilian's underneath the tarp but also anyone stuck out in the snow in a 1 mile radius.

"Everyone get ready, we'll be moving to the auditorium under Avian's guidance! Stay close and stay warm, we'll be there in no time!"

She said, inspiring the crowd to remain positive. Maiden would follow behind Avian at a slow pace to not lose any pedestrians in the storm while also using her telekinesis to clear a path in the snow.

Moving everyone to the auditorium. Once she gets everyone inside, she'll use her telepathy to find any civilian's stuck out in the snow and rescue them!

Snowdrift
HP: 1
Status: Normal

Snowdrift responds gratefully while taking Lou's hand and shaking it. "A bit, yes. A jacket would definitely be appreciated, thank you. I'll return it when I have a chance. How packed are you guys in here?" He extends his telepathy to it's limit to see if he can get those in other stores to try getting a count or even just a general capacity estimate. Once he attempts that, he will start trying to think of a solution to the approaching problem with the heating and cooling systems.
