That actually sounds kind of cool. I've heard some good things about the Gumshoe system in general- maybe I'll pick that up.

We all know that Helen will end up leading the metahuman Inquisition anyway ;)

Quite like that!

Although it does seem to be missing some powers. Like mind reading - would that count as invasion of privacy or something? And mind control. Are there laws against coercion that might apply? But then there's the whole proving it even happened thing as we discussed with Harold earlier.

Something to have the lawyers rubbing their hands with glee for many years to come I suspect!

I really don't see how we end up working with her based on this encounter.

Agreed. It would need a pretty big and inescapable push of some kind.

It's a great character choice. But I don't see Deborah inviting Helen to the meet up she wanted Khemis to attend.

You know, on the subject of coming up with a secure way to communicate... a burner phone isn't exactly as reliable as one would expect. Cellphone towers will still hold logs of their calls, phones contacted by the burner will have records of those calls, voice recognition software has gotten advanced enough that it can be used while calls are in-progress, etc etc. The only real merit to them is that the cellphone number for the burner isn't directly tied to the owner in any obvious way. Otherwise, they're not really that anonymous as movies make them out to be. This is actually a vulnerability in transmission that exists across all means of electronic communication - the routers and switches that handle the communication can technically be used to intercept data transmissions, which is why all electronic data is encrypted these days. Even so, end-points can still be registered and identified if you've got the right infrastructure and know-how (as in, know exactly where to look and when), whether that be IP addresses for web-access, or the cell-towers that your phone connects to to transmit across the telecom networks.

The main benefits of burners are that you can probably just shell out cash for buying a burner and a prepaid SIM so that you don't have any record of your name on that purchase nor tied directly to the phone number the prepaid SIM came with. Of course, once the data you've paid for has been used up, you either need to buy a data-plan or something to add more minutes or whatever to it (which isn't easily done via cash), or buy a new SIM and change numbers...

An alternative could be the use of disposable email addresses for sending and receiving emails online. There are email services online that offer such anonymity which aren't tied to any personal information of ours. Or just bite the bullet and use an online forum that doesn't show more than your username to the public (though admins might still have access to the email you signed up with - disposable email addresses could also be useful there). Or just use a chatting application which offers similar utility - create a disposable email address to sign up, and then log in/off with a username and password. Or use the game-chat for some video-game that would allow you to PM other players, and use that to chat about stuff unrelated to the game (that was actually a plot-point in the Jack Ryan TV show). Or use online dead-drops for various kinds of messages. Or any one of a bunch of other alternatives.

Sure, there's strengths and weaknesses to every approach, but I don't think there's any way to set up secure communications between Sunstormers in Chicago that perfectly protects everyone's identities and allows for anonymous communicate so we can collaborate on... whatever we end up doing.

Email only works if you can spoof your IP address through a VPN (assuming the VPN is "secure"). The email host will still know the IP where the email originated and if that's your home laptop, well...

We would need someone with Inventor to create Comm Link objects that are "safe" based on them rolling high on their security system check.

Khemis is mostly concerned with having a phone number and identity separate to her civilian one, rather than her phone and accounts for her Khemis identity being 100% secure.

Helen seems to have failed to notice that her colleagues have been pretty clear on not wanting Khemis' help, despite her pointing out the dangers and offering to help several times.

Did Helen ever learn the guy's name or was it only gleaned through Gold's powers?

Page 5 of the IC thread, Khemis refers to him as Harold, when speaking to Helen

Okay. I guess Helen wouldn't had remembered that after her "Peter Pan" act.😉
