The Mightyverse

Post by mightydavidson »

Hello and salutations! On a couple of other forums I've taken the time to make up my own setting cobbled together from Mutants & Masterminds Freedom City setting, Blackwyrm Games' Algernon Files, Charles Phipps' Halt Evil Doer (as well as other stuff he's done like Lucifer's Star among others) and my own imagination. Obviously I'm going to be trying it again here on this forum and I'd appreciate any input anybody would care to provide as well as feedback, stuff like that helps keep the inspiration flowing after all!

This will likely be a stream of consciousness sort of thing for me, I will likely try to keep it all in some sort of order but if inspiration takes me in a different direction, you can most likely expect a tangent or two. Things will most likely be reasonably optimistic as well, I'm not a fan of grimdark stuff and while I can't guarantee that my imagination won't take us to dark places from time to time I'm highly unlikely to sink to the levels of, for example, The Boys.

That being said, let's start with a little overview. Most of the action will be taking place on Earth M (a trifle obvious admittedly but I had to call it something). The most prominent alien races in the area are the Saeduun, the Lor, the Harasheen, the Thran, the Tsavong, the Mihral and the Grue. The most prominent galactic societies are the Confederacy of Allied Worlds, The Interstellar Commonwealth, the Interstellar Khanate (more or less between the previous two), The Grue Unity, the Thran Allegiance, the Tsavong Hegemony and many others. The Lor Republic was one of the most powerful entities in the galaxy and one of the pillars of the Confederation of Worlds until it's homeworld was destroyed allowing the Interstellar Khanate to take over before the Lor could recover from the disaster. The Confederation might have fallen entirely had it not been for the heroic efforts of heroes like the Starknights, the Aeon Family and the surprise assistance of the Mihral Dominion, who thought it was logical for them to come to the aid of the organization and even join

Of course there's far more going on in the Mightyverse then just this but we'll cover that in future installments.

The Freedom League

With the continued existence of the Patriots being uncertain at this time, given the American government's apparent decision to switch their patronage from them to the Arsenal of Democracy, the Freedom League shares with the Sentinels the status of most powerful super team in the United States. Headquartered in a satellite in synchronous orbit over Freedom City, said headquarters is called the Lighthouse, the team stands vigilant to battle any threat to humanity from the Earth, the stars or anyplace else. They also try to maintain good relations with the super teams of other nations, in the event that they have to co-ordinate with those groups in the face of a threat the Freedom League can't face on it's own.

Though the group initially formed in the Golden Age, one of many teams formed to battle the Axis Powers, as the Liberty League it first began using the Freedom League name in the 60s when the original members banded together, the Liberty League having been required to disband by the House Un-American Committee, to battle Hades who'd invaded the Earth in an attempt to make Freedom City and the Earth part of his realm. The heroes battled a great many foes together though several tragedies (most notably the death of The Scarab in battle against the Scions of Sobek and Halogen and Tectonic against the Katanarchists) resulted in the team disbanding during the 80s after heroes were banned from Freedom City by the Moore Act in 1984. The Terminus Invasion would cause the team to reunite to save the world though they would immediately face another tragedy as they faced the demise of their team leader The Centurion, often considered one of the Earth's greatest superheroes.

Despite that tragedy the heroes would stay united, thwarting the Grue Invasion and both attempts by Orkus' Crusade of Darkness (though they had assistance from pretty much every superhero in the world in that case) to seize control of the Earth. Older members of the team have retired but new ones have taken their place and while there has been controversy over Jonny Quick's sexual identity, the new Lady Liberty being transgender and the new American Eagle's relationship with Lady Liberty the team has stood firm in the face any controversy or threat they've faced thus far.

Members

American Eagle: The newest member of the Freedom League and only the second person to hold the American Eagle mantle. Thomas Clarke and his siblings were transported to another world where a dark faerie intended to make them her depraved servants, rulers of her domain of the faerie world in a twisted version of the Chronicles of Narnia. Teased and tormented each sibling was abused and altered in their own way, with Thomas being put through torturous alchemical treatments in order to increase his strength and stamina and to give him the regeneration factor common in trolls. Thomas was to be her high king, though his younger brother Edwin was clearly her favorite and every time he resisted she would make a point of tormenting one of his younger siblings, with his younger sister Janet being his favorite target.

Resist they did however and with the abilities they'd learned trying to survive this horrid realm they managed to hold the wicked creature off until the Tomorrow Society and the Next Gen could manage a rescue with Seven defeating the dark faerie in a sorcerer's duel. The only problem was, though it only seemed to the Clarkes that they'd been trapped for about a year at the most it had actually been 100 years since they'd been kidnapped with the heroes being notified by a helpful faerie who decided she was going to be the siblings' godmother.

Now a boy out of time Thomas did his best to adjust, throwing himself into his training at Claremont Academy and being the first of his siblings to graduate. Seeing Thomas' eagerness to help others, Daedalus developed a suit of power armor based on the original design of the American Eagle suit used in WW2. Though this made him the enemy of each and every anti-American, and indeed anti-democracy, supervillain out there Thomas proudly donned the mantle eager to prove the villainess who'd kidnapped him had not broken him.

The Bowman: The fourth man to carry the mantle of the Bowman, Fletcher Beaumont III has had a lot to live up to and for the most part he's managed it both as leader of the original Next Gen and as a member of the Freedom League. Due to the leadership ability he displayed as part of the Next Gen, Daedalus hopes that Fletcher will eventually be able to assume the same role in the Freedom League despite his thrill seeking nature. Thus far he's shown the tactical acumen to handle such a role though sadly he's not been quite so successful in his private life as his focus on superheroing has started causing issues in the Beaumont publishing empire. While things aren't to bad as of yet, the sharks have begun to circle and if he doesn't start showing interest soon, or find somebody trustworthy to run the family business, it's possible he could lose it all.

As a superhero however his biggest issue is the same one that's threatened every member of the Bowman legacy: Dracula. Back in the Golden Age the Lord of the Vampires was slain by the original Bowman and Dracula found the defeat so embarrassing that the Count declared revenge not just on the Bowman himself but his entire legacy. The retired members are usually safe but Bowman has had to work with the Freedom League's magical allies more then once in the past, in order to prevent Dracula from ending their lives as well. Having slain Dracula once himself, Fletcher has likely not seen the end of this particular feud.

Centuria: The daughter of The Centurion from another dimension, placed in an interdimensional capsule by her father when her home dimension was invaded by the Terminus. Gaining powers from traveling through dimensions as her father had before her, she was educated at Claremont Academy before receiving training from the second Lady Liberty, Daedalus and Captain Thunder. Due to her heritage Centuria is a huge celebrity in the United States and around the world, though she doesn't often get to enjoy it very much due to that same heritage. She and Saturnalia Roman feud as much as their fathers used to for example and the supervillain Superior has tried to force her to wed him at least once and seems to relish the opportunity to do it again. On top of that several supervillains have been trying to make their name by taking Centuria down, particularly the vile Osprey who openly hopes to make a mockery of The Centurion's legacy.

Daedalus: The Cunning Greek's battle against the Labyrinth and The Foundry continues and while he and the Freedom League have managed to make decent headway against The Foundry and it's leader, Talos, the Labyrinth has proven as slippery as ever. Successes have been made, goals of Taurus have been thwarted and assets of his destroyed but they have yet to come close to actually capturing Taurus himself nor discovering the members of his Inner Circle which frustrates Daedalus to no end. That Taurus is up to something goes without saying, the Labyrinth is never idle in forwarding it's plans after all but the information they've gathered suggests that he's expanding his and Daedalus fears this means a reformation of the Zodiac Cartel and Labyrinth taking a more active role on the world stage.

Current issues within the Foundation of World Harmony seem to bear this out as well, though Daedalus has been thus far unable to prove it. The dismissal of Dame Michelle Holmes from that organization can only benefit Taurus' goals and the Cunning Greek actually trembles at the notion that the Labyrinth might subvert that organization to it's own ends.

Doctor Metropolis: The literal spirit of Freedom City is as enigmatic as ever, coming and going seemingly at random and giving no hint as to it's origins or goals, though obviously it intends to protect Freedom City and it's twin city, Freehold, to the best of it's ability. He gets along well enough with the other members of the Freedom League certainly and is polite enough with civilians though folks can't help but think he's more then a bit detached. That being said Doctor Metropolis has never failed to take a strong stance against terrorists and those who would reign destruction upon a city and it's citizens simply for the sake of it. It seems to have enmity with the Green Man due to the time that villain stole it's powers in order to murder the city's entire populace for example and during various invasions it expressed great rage at aliens who rained death and destruction upon the city from their starships. However the creature known as Hiroshima's Shadow was the only thing Doctor Metropolis seemed to actually dislike, though nobody was ever sure of why that might be the case.

Jonny Quick: For the Freedom League's speedster things have been going pretty much as they always have: he's still a lightning rod for homophobes call him a menace due to his sexual preference, villainous speedsters are forever trying to prove that they're faster then him despite him making it very clear that he doesn't care if he's the fastest or not and of course The Maestro tries to kill him for not appreciating classical music as much as Maestro thinks he ought too. With his husband by his side Jonny can handle pretty much anything if he has too, though increasing conflicts with agents of the Eightfold Web do have him a bit alarmed to put things mildly. Aware of Daedalus' concerns regarding the Labyrinth, Jonny has become concerned that the Eightfold Web is dialing up their own activities, possibly in answer to the Labyrinth's own increased activity. Though he's made his concerns known to Daedalus, Jonny doesn't think he's heard the end of this.

Even more disturbing the crime lord known as Baron Brimstone seems to be showing an interest in Jonny as well, though disturbingly with an eye to corruption rather then elimination. The few times Jonny's encountered the man he's dropped hints to Jonny regarding "embracing your decadence" and such.

Lady Liberty: The latest woman to take up the mantle and powers of Lady Liberty and, much to the scandal of the less openminded parts of the country, the first transgender heroine active in the United States so far as anybody knows. Sonia Gutierrez has naturally as a result of that been the recipient of a great deal of prejudice, with some claiming that she actually managed to steal her powers from her predecessor simply because she wasn't biologically female. The fact that her first tussles with members of Lady Liberty's rogues gallery, most notable Orion the Hunter of the Crime League, have not gone so well only "proves" to such people that she's not worthy of holding the powers. The fact that her skills have vastly improved due to training with the Freedom League and she's since thwarted bigots like Knightfire and terrorist threats from the Globalist among others has not changed the minds of such people.

Both helping and hindering Sonia's case is her relationship with Thomas Clarke, that a transgender woman is dating a man is bad enough for some people but dating a man bearing the patriotic legacy of a Golden Age hero is intolerable to them. On the other hand, Thomas and Sonia love each other deeply and he never fails to rise to her defense when somebody chooses to put her down. They've proven to be a pretty formidable team as well having thwarted quite a few robberies and such together, in addition to making Orion regret his second attempt to attack Sonia while the two heroes were on a date. Also, despite what the bigots might believe, there's quite a few people in the world who are quite pleased to see the two together, finding the whole thing very romantic.

Mar'ann: The Galactic Guardsman assigned to Earth and a dear friend of Earth's Star Knight, Maria Montoya. A member of the alien people known as the Thran, Mar'ann is both larger and stronger then a human capable of defeating several of them in hand to hand combat even without her Galactic Guardsman gear. Due to the Thran's attempt to conquer the Earth awhile ago Mar'ann still receives prejudice from certain circles and distrust from the US government, despite her long tour of duty with the Patriots. The fact that she betrayed the Thran in order to help Earth defeat them in the first place is often overlooked by dimmer folks. The fact that there's at least one organization dedicated to causing trouble for aliens is not making things any easier for Mar'ann either.

Not that she cares all that much, focusing on her duties and protecting the Earth as best she is able. Like her friend Maria however, she's quite alarmed by the fall of the Lor Republic. Though the Confederacy of Allied Worlds still stands between the Stellar Khanate and Earth, she fears that they might not be enough to hold the Star Khan back to say nothing of the fact that several dangerous factions in the galaxy, the Thran Allegiance and the Tsavong Hegemony among them were strengthened by the loss of the Republic.

Siren: The current vessel of the Voodoo Loa of the seas and as a result the usual go between when the Freedom League has to deal with the various realms that the surface world refers to as Atlantis. She tends to take the lead when the team faces off against villains from the sea like Merrow, Deep Ones or the villainous scion of Nautilus known as Neptune. In his attempts to claim the throne of Nautilus, Neptune has attempted to woo Siren more then once and has even attempted to take her by force once or twice as well. Each time she's managed to fend him off as despite his superficial charm, Siren can tell that he's not been empowered by any Cosmic Eternal as he claims. Indeed she can clearly sense the true source of his power as it is one of her direst foes: the Entropic Master known as Dagon.

As the Freedom League's current wielder of magic she's usually called upon to deal with magical foes they encounter as well, resulting in battles against various members of the Parliament of Shadows, among others.

Star Knight: The other cosmic defender of the Earth on the team and one of the longest serving members of the team aside from Daedalus himself. As a result she's usually considered the leader of the team these days, with either Daedalus or Jonny Quick taking command when she's not around which sadly is happening quite a bit as of late due to the situation in the galaxy these days. Not only due to the fall of the Lor Republic but the rise of the Argents and the Blackguard as well, particularly since a great many Void Knights have chosen to join the latter organization for their own reasons. The apparent start of an alliance between the Void Patrol and the Argents isn't doing much to make her feel better either and the fact that The Cosmic Mind might have begun operations in the Stellar Khanate isn't wonderful news either.

As a result Maria splits her time between fighting alongside the Freedom League on Earth and working with other Starknights and the Galactic Guardsmen in outer space, trying their best to deal with a situation that seemed to be going horribly out of control.

Thunderbolt: Ray Gardener Jr, the son of Captain Thunder and one of the more tragic stories in the superhero world at the moment. In an attempt to prove himself to his father Ray faced off against Dr. Stratos, his father's archenemy, on his own. Overwhelmed and needing to be rescued by his father it became clear that he'd been the bait for a trap laid for his father. With a great deal of willpower Ray was able to prevent himself from being turned into a "Thunderbomb" that would have obliterated both himself and his now powerless father, he even managed to defeat Dr. Stratos but in the process he became a being of living energy. Daedalus and Dr. Atom were able to keep him from dissipating by transferring his energy form into an advanced containment suit but Thunderbolt's life would never be the same again.

The Freedom Knights

Officially a sub team of the Freedom League, the Freedom Knights began as a joint effort between the League and the Patriots prior to the apparent dissolution of the Patriots intended to take the fight to organized crime, particularly the International Crime Syndicate and the Black Hand, as well as ferret out information on the activities of terrorist organizations like SHADOW and the Eightfold Web. Officially led by the second Blackwing, the group is more of a mutual respect society rather then a strict hierarchy as each member of the team is more then well aware of their teammates' skill at crime solving. Also even when the Patriots were still active as a team the Knights were never a Freedom League/Patriots outfit only as Blackheart of the Sentinels has been a member of the team since their second outing, when they foiled an ICS human trafficking ring which was providing subjects to a cabal of mad scientists.
Actually a part of a Labyrinth operation intended to try and perfect their DNAscendant process, though neither the heroes nor the ICS crooks they'd thwarted were aware of that.
Also any sufficiently talented crimefighter who can vouch for their ability and isn't a death dealing vigilante is welcome to work with the team, either fulltime or on a case by case basis.

The precognitive superhero Foreshadow is the acknowledged founder of the team having received warning of a SHADOW operation via his powers. Sure enough when he and his sidekick, the third Midnight, investigated they found a gang of assassins assaulting a foreign exchange student from Egypt led by SHADOW operative Nacht Krieger. A furious battle ensued which turned into a three way brawl between the heroes, SHADOW and elements of the Freedom City Mob who were using the opportunity to attempt to eliminate Foreshadow and Midnight. As a result the heroes were forced to issue a distress call which was answered by Patriots members Black Wing and Splotch, who were in the city investigating a separate case. Over the course of the fight the villains were driven off and the Egyptian student was revealed to be the reincarnation of former Freedom League member The Scarab, who'd been slain by the Scions of Sobek in the 60s. Working together the heroes trailed the fleeing SHADOW goons to Bedlam City, a dismal burg close to Blackwing's own home base: Falconcrest City.

From there the heroes would get caught up in a bizarre plan by Count Reich involving the destruction of both cities by cloned dinosaurs implanted with the brains of surviving Nazi war criminals, led by a mutant T-Rex implanted with the brain of Hitler himself, said to be revived via Count Reich's own dark magic. It was the thwarting of that particular plan that convinced the heroes to work together on a regular basis though they were unfortunately unable to capture Count Reich himself.

Thank you! The Psychotic Seven is, most likely, next but from there I'm not sure. You will see more though, I promise. :)

The Psychotic Seven

Red Leopard, Aquarian, Manhattan Project, the Union Siblings, Moss Pit and Hecate. In better says some of them were considered among the best heroes the world had to offer and even lesser lights like Manhattan Project were undeniably on the side of good even if they weren't the most competent heroes the world had ever seen. Now a days however their names are synonymous with treason and destruction, with people only recalling the massive collateral damage they caused when attempting to capture criminals, the brutal executions of said criminals and of course their attempt to conquer the United States of America.

It was that bold move that would eventually spell the end of the Seven as a group, though it hardly seemed like it at the time what with seemingly every vigilante in the States (and a few villains claiming to be such in order to save their hides) siding with the Seven and demons and monsters summoned by Hecate seemingly all over the place. Even with the entirety of the Freedom League and Sentinels working together with the Patriots the heroes were overwhelmed, with Divinos' return to reinforce the Patriots and the Aeon Family in Washington DC, as well as Canada's superteam Hero Force One reinforcing the Sentinels during a particularly tough battle in Michigan being the only thing that enabled the hero's to turn the tide. The victory was narrower then the heroes would have liked but from there the power of the Seven was effectively broken as they were forced to flee to Mexico after an attempt to flee across the ocean resulting in an encounter with Britain's superteam, the Defenders of the Crown, who were endeavoring to arrest the Union siblings for various crimes in the UK. Though they would try to continue as before the team was harried by Mexican superheroes every time they were spotted, resulting in three way battles between the Seven, the Mexican heroes and whatever criminals the Seven were endeavoring to slaughter at the time (usually endangering civilians in the process.)

The end would truly come when the Psychotic Seven traveled to Brazil in order to assault what they believed to be a large meeting of drug dealers near the city of Sao Miguel. They attacked the criminals with their customary viciousness slaughtering them with even greater ease then they normally did. Only Red Leopard, Aquarian and Manhattan Project were horrified when the deception was revealed. The people they'd believed to be drug dealers were in fact people being hidden from one Adolfo Joaquin Alvarez AKA the Devil Doctor of Sao Miguel AKA the notorious Dr. Morte, innocent people who'd been planning to testify against the villain, now eliminated with the Seven holding the bag as Brazil's superteam, Legiao da Justica attacked. Though Red Leopard, Aquarian and Manhattan Project would abandon their team mates early on in the battle, shocked by their lack of empathy for the slaughtered innocents the fight was still a brutal one that only ended when villains employed by the Devil Doctor fired high explosive missiles into the middle of the combat resulting in the deaths of the Union siblings and injury to pretty much everybody else. Hecate would proceed to teleport away as the Brazilian heroes turned to face their foes and Moss Pit would simply wander off into the jungle, never to be seen again.

The first step of the Devil Doctor's plan to eliminate Legiao da Justica had gone off without a hitch and the Psychotic Seven were the perfect patsies to set it all up. Over the next few months regular attacks by the Devil Doctor and his associates would ensure the Brazilian heroes would be unable to properly recover from their injuries resulting in the demise of the entire team in addition to Sao Miguel falling under the control of the Devil Doctor as the new headquarters for himself and his minions.

As for the rest of the Psychotic Seven, Red Leopard would publicly abdicate his throne in favor of his son naming his former friend the White Lion as regent until the boy came of age. He would also renounce the Red Leopard identity, claiming to be unworthy of it, henceforth he would be Peter Quartermain. Nobody has heard from him since.

Aquarian would be spotted from time to time, mostly fighting large scale threats to Nestoria and Atlantis and exhorting his sister Ariel to take the throne, usually while preventing his villainous brother Neptune from doing so. When major crises threatened the Earth or the Universe he would show up to aid the heroes but would not socialize much. Ariel would claim that her brother was on a quest for redemption but wouldn't speak more about it.

Manhattan Project simply flew off into outer space. The Aeon Family stated they would keep an eye out for him but as of yet, they've not encountered him.

Hecate alas, would fall deeper into delusion believing that she'd been betrayed not only by Athena but by every other hero who'd tried to stop her when she was part of the Psychotic Seven and grew closer to her father Ares and the rest of her family. Studying with her father, her brothers Phobos and Deimos and her aunt Enyo, Greek Goddess of Destruction, she learned all manner of ways to cause chaos, bloodshed and terror. She would study the darkest of magics but she had more in mind then a simple rampage, oh no for a sorceress with divine boons from all her relations, that was not nearly a suitable enough revenge. For after all Adrian Eldritch had fallen, there was no Master Mage of the Earth at the moment and thus she was provided with a unique opportunity.

She would become the Master Mage of Earth, she would become the Earth's Dark Lady and all humanity would suffer for her betrayal.

Of course even with the new power she possessed she could not manage this on her own so she would form a new Psychotic Seven, with members who were as terrible as she herself now was.

Bloodwing: One of, if not the most, deadliest supervillains in the history of the world. Though he's been thwarted hundreds of times he's managed to rack up a body count exceeding that of every supervillain in the world and he's more then happy to raise that tally by as much as he is able. He is no mere thug either, horrifyingly enough as he possesses the vast knowledge and skill of Blackwing and occasionally the resources as well, all commanded by a mind as cold bloodedly vicious as The Shape from Halloween.

He has been slain many times, indeed he was the villain the original group formed to eliminate when they were called the Justicars, but another Bloodwing invariably rises in his place. They are never the same person and yet, they always seem to have all the knowledge and skill the original possessed. Sometimes he is a straightforward stalker and killer, sometimes he's a terrifying mastermind plotting the demise of millions but this might be the most terrifying variation yet: a team player.

Conqueror Worm: The greatest enemy of the superhero The Raven, recently returned from the grave due to the magics of Malador the Mystic that he might bedevil the world once again. The Conqueror Worm is one of the few villains in the world who can match Bloodwing for sheer murderous malice to the extent that most of the original Raven's foes simply refused to work with him by the end of his life. His mad schemes, sometimes only thwarted by the barest of margins by The Raven, were always designed to cause as much death and insanity as he was possible and he delighted at tearing down the trappings of society and sometimes specific people, if the mood struck him.

There is no hope that a clash of egos between Worm and Bloodwing will hamper their plans either, the two get along quite well and relish the opportunity to pool their murderous skills.

Ligeia: The Conqueror Worm's partner in crime and lover, who gleefully aided every psychotic endeavor he ever planned. Though overshadowed by her boss during his lifetime, though she would still prove herself dangerous during this period regardless, Ligeia would prove to be incredibly dangerous in her own right after the Conqueror Worm's demise at the hands of Raven. Deciding to become a living monument to her beloved's criminal career, Ligeia engaged in an orgy of violence and depravity that terrorized even some of the criminals who deigned to work with her. Corruption was her vibe during this period too as she would target the Next-Gen and the Tomorrow Society hoping to corrupt it's younger members to evil. During this period she would also create some of the most vicious street gangs Freedom City had ever seen, gangs that would give even FORCE Ops pause.

Needless to say, Ligeia is happy her beloved is back and the fact that he's an undead monstrosity now doesn't bother her in the slightest.

Fearmonger: The second villain to use this name and his gimmick is pretty much explained by his name. Unlike the first Fearmonger, this one tends to use elements of slasher movies in his schemes and particularly his costume. Though he's not yet reached the horrible heights of his namesake, his skill at causing fear was still more then enough for Hecate to recruit him. He leapt at the opportunity too as, after all, it's not every day somebody offers you the opportunity to terrorize an entire universe.

That they're totally into each other likely helped as well.

Razortalon: An Australian villain who has the ability to turn into a beast man and is therefore rather straightforward in his villainy. He lives to hunt and kill and the more dangerous the target the better, which is usually why he targets humans and metahumans. Normally he satisfies these urges by being an assassin and has in the past been hired by SHADOW, PHANTOM, the House of Serpents, the ICS and even the Labyrinth (though in that case he didn't know who he was actually working for.) He's battled most of the superheroes in the world by this point and while he's been captured many times, none of them have found a way to keep him incarcerated.

Hecate recruited him by promising to give him a populated world or two to use as his very own hunting preserve, once she achieved her goals.

Bloodstain: A deranged psychopath with the powers of the superhero Splotch. All he wishes to do is kill and maim and unless he's completely restrained, he will try to do just that even when he doesn't have his powers. When he does he's one of the nastiest supervillains Splotch, or anybody else for that matter, have the misfortune of dealing with. He's not bright but he is cunning in the way of a dangerous animal like a wolf or a tiger and Hecate treats him more like a pet then an equal.

So long as she lets him kill people, Bloodstain doesn't mind all that much.

An utterly fantastic set of update for the Mightyverse!

I have to give you real kudos for what you've done with the Freedom League and updating them to 2021. I am very impressed with the fate of Captain Thunder's son, Mar Ann, and Star Knight. Lots of fascinating stuff happening there. Lady Liberty's latest incarnation is also a topical twist.
Curious about what's happening with Raven, though.

Really fond of what you did with the Psychotic Seven as well. I was very proud of their story and like what you've concluded it with. What a delightfully awful collection of antiheroes you've updated as well.

Well I must admit, with some embarrassment, that while Raven is a part of the Freedom Knights and I'd meant to have him as part of the team who thwarted Count Reich and his Nazi dinosaurs, I'd actually forgotten to write him into the dialogue. So to clarify Raven is a member of that team and did in fact help Scarab, Blackwing and Foresight thwart Count Reich's weird dino plan. Though calling a Count Reich plan weird is somewhat redundant given that crazy even by the standards of Silver Age comics plans are practically the man's calling card. I find it much easier to use him when I'm giving him crazy plans like that you see. :)

Not sure what comes next, though. Sentinels seems more likely though I could end up covering the Labyrinth next, as I do have quite a few plans for them.

Wraith

The story of the organization known as Wraith begins not only with the fall of the organization it sprang from, PHANTOM but also the fall of another criminal organization: UNITROL. Formed in the late 1960s by the shapeshifting villain Unifier, formally known as the British supervillain called NoMan, UNITROL had been targeted by the Foundation for World Harmony much the same as PHANTOM itself had been since it's founding after the Second World War and by the late 90s things had begun falling apart for Unifier's organization. Having taken over a small African country for use as their headquarters they acquired the ire of the many superheroes of that continent such as the Champions of West Africa, the South African Super Hero Association* and the Red Leopards and White Lions of Nestoria.
*Though SASHA has South African in it's name, it is not primarily a superteam of South Africa nor was it ever an organization associated with Apartheid as it was formed after that was ended. It is a superteam sponsored by the South African Development Community and is headquarted in Botswana and includes heroes from all the member countries of that organization.
Due to UNITROL's hardline stance against metahumans they also had numerous conflicts with both the Tomorrow Society and Gene Nation, with said hardline stance also causing conflict between Unifier and his second in command, Wasphawk, who found it distasteful. After his attempt to assassinate the king of Thailand was thwarted by Foundation agents Daffyd Hughes and Wolf Jager, Unifier was approached by the head of PHANTOM Kenneth Kane. With his organization in dire straits Unifier was unable to refuse Kane's "suggestion" that PHANTOM would prop up UNITROL and use it and Unifier's fake UN as a front to distract heroic eyes from PHANTOM's own operations, to provide PHANTOM the vaunted power neutralizing technology that UNITROL had and, most annoyingly to Unifier's way of thinking, a cash cow for PHANTOM. With his organization reduced to little more then a money laundering operation, among other things, for PHANTOM Unifier would have likely sought revenge had things not started to get exponentially worse for both organizations.

With Kenneth Kane's corporate holdings, Spartacorp, under investigations for numerous violations of numerous laws Kenneth Kane would throw in with the forces of Orkus' Crusade of Darkness during Orkus' second invasion of the Earth with the natural result of all manner of perfidy being exposed, not the least of which was Kane's connection to PHANTOM and UNITROL. With the defeat of the invasion bringing down PHANTOM and Kane's subsequent flight into outer space to avoid arrest for said perfidy Unifier might have been able to manage some damage control, he was in fact planning to take the forms of several important individuals in order to try and salvage what reputation his organization had, had his own skullduggery not been revealed. After hiring supervillains from the villainous organization known as The Exchange to prevent the African heroine Prime Detective from revealing evidence of various crimes against humanity UNITROL had committed, she not only revealed said crimes to the world (most notably the genocide of metahumans in countries UNITROL had controlled) but also revealed Unifier's ties to various anti-metahuman bigots such as Paragon and the Church of Humanity. With nearly all the world's governments calling for Unifier's head, Gene Nation declaring all out war against UNITROL's forces and the forces of justice moving in Unifier needed all the help he could get but none was forthcoming. Having declared his hard line stance against metahumans in hopes of being aided by anti metahuman groups in case of a crisis, he discovered that not only were they not strong enough to aid him much in any case but his hypocrisy in hiring a largely metahuman group like the Exchange to deal with Prime Detective meant they weren't coming to his aid regardless. Furthermore the Exchange itself was incensed by Unifier's ties to people and organizations that wanted most of it's employees deceased and swore revenge and as a final indignity, Wasphawk and the Sky Pirates abandoned Unifier in his time of need. They were violent criminals surely, mercenaries for hire and not at all ashamed of it but terrorism and genocide was where they drew the line.

As African heroes liberated "his" country and Gene Nation destroyed his power neutralizing technology Unifier fled to Ruritania with the remainder of his forces hoping to take advantage of PHANTOM's own fall from grace. Upon arriving he encountered another person attempting to do the same thing a vicious revolutionary who'd at one point been a part of the Masked Adventurer Society, hypocritically attempting to manipulate that organization to his own purposes the way Unifier had hypocritically attempted to manipulate anti metahuman sentiment despite being a metahuman himself. The two got on famously and a plan was immediately hatched, with Unifier taking the form of Kenneth Kane to convince the the remaining members of PHANTOM that his apparent association with Orkus and flight into space was merely an elaborate plan to throw the forces of justice off his track, to set them at ease. He wasn't entirely successful as a great many PHANTOM goons had gone on to form the mercenary organization SKULL but enough were convinced that the two villains, with the aid of Unifier's surviving agents from UNITROL were able to secure the rulership of Ruritania, with Unifier posing as it's "democratically elected" leader Herr Reinhardt and reform the remnants of their two fallen organizations into something newer and more deadly: Wraith!

With Unifier taking the title of Wraith Lord and his new associate leading the troops in the field as the Dire Wraith, the new organization would be more streamlined then PHANTOM was, more efficient and a great deal more vicious. Not for them the grandiose schemes that sank their parent organizations, Wraith would achieve it's goals quickly, ruthlessly and as quietly as possible. They would conquer the world but their grasp would not exceed their reach the way Unifier's had when he expanded UNITROL to quickly, allowing it to become overextended and thus vulnerable. Patience was the key and while they both had foes they were quite eager to take revenge on, that would be a secondary concern as at the moment they had more important things to think of. The first of which was the attempt by ICS leaders Rex Mundi and Gorilla Ganglord to obtain the remaining PHANTOM resources for their own ends: Neo-Phantom.

Though they'd gotten more of PHANTOM's resources then Neo-Phantom had, the fact that the ICS members had seduced the Invisible Congress away from the crumbling House of Serpents and was currently holding the loyalty of The Highest Society, a team of superpowered aristocrats who'd been one of Kenneth Kane's greatest assets in the past. While the possibility of absorbing the Invisible Congress into Wraith was an intriguing possibility, recruiting the Highest Society was their highest priority.

SKULL

In comparison to the origin of Wraith, SKULL's beginnings were fairly simple all things considered. With Kenneth Kane having betrayed the Earth on behalf of Orkus and then escaped into space, many of the rank and file agents of PHANTOM were decidedly uninterested in the whole taking over the world business. Oh they were still interested in criminal activity of course but they were interested in simpler things: crime for hire and mercenary work for other villains was quite alright with them thank you very much.

Meanwhile Kenneth Kane's corporate monolith, Spartacorp, was falling apart due to his betrayal of the Earth and the many many revelations that came to light regarding Kane's wrongdoing as a result of that. The company fractured and every company worth it's salt was trying to seize it's assets any way they could. For the Iron Phalanx PMC however things were quite a bit more troublesome. With their major employer gone and most governments considering them literal enemies of humanity due to their association with Kenneth Kane things needed to change and fast. The fact that they were pinned down by a hostile military in the Ukraine with the Euroforce superteam en route for back up only served to further illustrate that point. Fortunately for them, Wasphawk and his Sky Pirates would show up to air lift Iron Phalanx's commanding officer Walter Ballardy and his surviving troops to safety.

At an undisclosed location somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, believed by some in law enforcement to have been the island of Elba, "General" Ballardy and his men would meet up with the disenfranchised PHANTOM agents and the purveyor of his good fortune, the mercenary supervillain known as Skullcap. Superhuman strength and durability partnered with expert training in both martial arts and firearms and a keen tactical mind had made Skullcap one of the most sought after metahuman mercenaries in the world having seen combat in more conflicts then he could remember but it had also made him a target, both the Foundation for World Harmony and AEGIS had named him as one of the most dangerous supervillains extant. While this had ensured that his skills were highly sought after certain governments also saw fit to betray him in the hopes of currying favor with the aforementioned organizations. One betrayal was more then enough as far as he was concerned, he'd managed to escape prison and now he intended to go into business for himself, but he realized one thing right away.

He couldn't do it alone.

The PHANTOM agents he'd recruited were just the start, he explained. Hiring Wasphawk and his Sky Pirates, just as eager to work under no direction save their own, were the second step and the acquisition of Iron Phalanx was the final part. General Ballardy's organizational skills were exceptional and would be absolutely necessary to ensure their combined troops would be deployed efficiently and Skullcap, of course, was more then capable of leading troops in the field as he'd demonstrated numerous times in the past. Wasphawk of course would provide air support with his Sky Pirates and their Hivewing mobile headquarters. Together the three of them would run the organization, which would hire out for any supervillain who required the muscle with the understanding that they were not terrorists for hire. They were not interested in large body counts for the sake of it, they were professionals not psychopaths after all. Within those parameters their organization, SKULL, would be happy to do any dirty deed that required doing. Ballardy thought about it for no more for no more then a minute before signing on.

Since then SKULL has done business with the International Crime Syndicate, S.P.I.R.E., Overthrow and elements of the Labyrinth as well as more then a few shady corporations as well. All the while they've been quietly recruiting competent professionals so they can expand their roster in order to take on more jobs, focusing on people with espionage and cyber security skills. As of yet they've been unable to expand their roster of supervillains though some of the new recruits did manage to steal the armor of the supervillain Jack 187 as a gift to General Ballardy, who wears it whenever he heads into combat calling himself The Steel Soldier.

The Tomorrow Society

Borne from the demise of the hero Dr. S and the disappearance of the majority of his Futuremen, the Tomorrow Society is dedicated to furthering his goal of helping metahumans aid humanity in gaining a new age of enlightenment and prosperity as well as protecting metahumans from those who would hurt them. What some people often forget however is that their goal is also to help protect humans from the metahumans who would cause them harm, like the Gene Nation or the Death's Head organization. Despite genuine efforts to help during disasters and other times of crisis, the Tomorrow Society is often lumped in with metahuman terrorists like Gene Nation simply because of the relationship between the Mass siblings. That the siblings have barely spoken to each other in years, outside of confrontations between their respective organizations, has done little to dispel the rumors of collusion between the two.

Not helping things is the fact that in several parts of the world where the governments aren't terribly metahuman tolerant, China for example, the Tomorrow Society is considered a terrorist organization on par with Gene Nation despite having never slain anybody during missions to those countries. Indeed, missions to those places are intended to save metahumans from harm by those governments, which in many cases would be death without the intervention of the Society.

All is not lost however as the group has friendly relations with both the Freedom League and the Sentinels, though said relations are kept quiet so as not to cause trouble for either team and the younger members of the Society have a friendly rivalry with the students of the Claremont Academy. The Society and Old Glory are also united in their desire to take down anti metahuman bigots.

Current Roster

Madame Tomorrow: Vilified due to being the daughter of Orkus and inadvertently summoning him on her 14th birthday, she definitely had no say in the matter, Serena Mass has long since gotten her dark side under control and while many people understandably worry about her ability to continue to do so no less an authority then former Master Mage Adrian Eldritch has vouched for her control. Indeed, many in the magical community trust her enough to allow her to mentor their children in the magical fields including members of the vaunted Order of Light and America's mystic defense organization ARCADE.

One of the few surviving members of the Futuremen, Serena has led every version of the team thus far and has proven a good field commander able to lead her team to victory regardless of the situation they're in or which members of the team are available. On two separate occasions she was able to turn back invasions of Mass Castle with only rag tag bands of students. Sadly her personal history means organizations like the Cult of Orkus, the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign and the Parliament of Shadows keep trying to invade the castle or interfere in the Society's business in general, in the hopes of corrupting Serena to evil in order to advance their own goals.

Demon Rider: Perhaps the only member of the team more vilified then Serena Mass, which is hardly surprising given he makes no bones about having been summoned from Hell and having killed a great many people. All of them villains or monsters as it happened but the pentagram on his chest and the fact that he was briefly controlled by the Psychotic Seven during their coup ensure that people are, at best, very unlikely to trust him in any situation. That he is no longer susceptible to magic control since his head was returned to him, having previously been the Headless Horseman and a servant of the wizard Merlin, is hardly common knowledge either and even if he brought it up it seems unlikely that people would take him at his word.

On the up side, now that he's back on Earth Lucien Drake can now attempt to redeem himself, so that he can move to a better part of the afterlife should his physical form be destroyed again. Toward that end he avoids slaughtering villains outright unless they're really REALLY nasty, though supernatural evil always receives his full wrath. Naturally this means that there are a great many mystical organizations who're seeking revenge upon him at any moment, if somebody magical is attacking the Society chances are they're after Lucien or Serena.

Phantom Archer II: A master archer and teleporter, Jean Paul Dodemont often considers himself the second in command of the Tomorrow Society, much to the irritation of the other members of the team. He's clashed with Madame Tomorrow over her leadership style and has never failed to let anybody know his exact opinion regarding their abilities or personalities, usually resulting in clashes with other members of the team particularly Demon Rider. Most of the team aren't terribly fond of him and were it not for the fact that his teleportation powers and archery skills have gotten the team out of quite a few jams in the past, they might have insisted he be kicked off the team.

All that being said Dodemont is very loyal to the teams goals and works very hard to ensure the younger members of the team are in good enough shape to survive in the field. Though they're rarely happy about it, given his tendency to act like a drill instructor during his classes, more then once Tomorrow Society students have come to be thankful for the training they received at his hands.

Ymir, The Radioactive Viking: The actual second in command of the Tomorrow Society and even Phantom Archer will, begrudgingly, admit that this is for the best. Having led Canada's superteam, Hero Force One back in the 60s preventing Count Reich from starting World War III as part of the NATO superhuman forces in Berlin during the Cold War and battling monsters of the Norse pantheon more times then he can count Ymir is undeniably the most experienced member of the team and is possibly the most powerful member of the team as well. He's defeated Entropic Masters in hand to hand combat and in his day to day life defending the city of Los Dios he's encountered more supernatural weirdness then some mystic heroes have. He's legitimately saved the world more then once.

Yet he still sometimes wonders if that makes up for accidentally releasing Loki when his experimental nuclear generator exploded in the Arctic, which has unleashed so much trouble upon the world. Though he loves his homeland of Canada he's reluctant to return as he feels that the country is safer without him in it due to the sheer amount of Norse giants and deities that wish him harm. He lives in Los Dios because, as a result of all it's weirdness, it is no more endangered by his presence then it is normally.

Ju-Ju: The youngest member of the Tomorrow Society Alpha team and the apprentice of Madame Tomorrow. Jennifer Nakamura is a Japanese American who is the daughter of the Tomorrow Society's chief medic, Dr. Keiko Nakamura, affectionately known as Dr. N to the various members of the team. Arrogant and hyper competitive, Ju-Ju was also highly gifted in the mystic arts and soon outpaced her mother's skill in the subject and began trying to teach herself magic behind her mother's back, not bothering to bother her mother with little details like asking permission due to her mother being busy. Of course while she did learn quite a bit about magic this way, these attempts to educate herself on the subject eventually wound up conjuring something nasty that was beyond Ju-Ju's ability to get rid of. Fortunately her mother was able to summon Madame Tomorrow and the Society was able to deal with the creature.

Since then Ju-Ju has studied dutifully under Madame Tomorrow and there have been no further incidents of that sort, though Serena does feel that Ju-Ju is more reckless then she ought to be. Still Ju-Ju has proven to have some charm beneath her arrogance and a surprising number of skills at her disposal due to her near obsession with getting every merit badge in her Girl Scout troop. While sometimes prickly she has made friends in the Society with Jun Masterson acting as something of a big sister figure for her. On top of that she's become friendly with the Claremont Academy student Auspex, with the relationship vacillating between a friendly rivalry due to their mutual desire to take up the vacant Master Mage role, to best chums to flirtation (though the later is mostly on Ju-Ju's part for now.)

Ultimatum: Ken Masterson granted vast magical ability alongside his sister by family members in the lands of the Fae, Ken can assume a powerful superhuman form by saying the word Ultimatum. At first he was considered the worst of the Iron Age heroes, causing great collateral damage in his attempts to take down villains many more traditional heroes worked hard to try and take him down, until they discovered the reason for his behavior.

He was eight years old and being led on by bad role models like the Psychotic Seven, or the Justicars as they were calling themselves at the time. Since that time however Ultimatum has worked hard to clean up his image, avoiding collateral damage when fighting villains, disaster relief of all kinds and generally helping out as much as he is able. Well he's not completely managed to rehabilitate his image, most people no longer believe that he's as bad as the villains he fights any more. Indeed, many younger heroes have no started looking up to him which only spurs him on in his attempts to be better.

Valkyrie: Jun Masterson, granted magic powers like her brother only she received the wisdom that he'd not been granted and as a result she's more well liked then her brother. It helps that Valkyrie is generally a cheerful sort, genuinely eager to please and never hesitant to lend a hand to those who need it. Some have said that she's, perhaps, trying a little to hard to be like the heroes of the Golden Age that she seems to admire so much though it seems to have caused her no problems thus far. Aside from the odd villain trying to corrupt her of course or prove that she's not as noble as she claims to be.

For the Masterson Twins however the real problem is on the supernatural end as many beings in Avalon would like to see the twins eliminated for one reason or another. Their relationship to the Dark Undermaster, hated former ruler of the fae lands, is bad enough for some but others look upon it as their duty to eliminate them, the dark faerie Maleficent for example. Others seem them as natural foes with whom a confrontation is all but inevitable and thus they make no attempt to avoid one, Bres the Beautiful and Morgan le Fey both fall into this category.

Loving those writeups. Any setting that has Ymir in it always gets that tad bit more awesome. He's my favourite from Halt Evil Doer.

Mine too and I imagine Chuck will be happy that I intend to use Hero Force One in the Mightyverse too, once I figure out how best to integrate them and Team Canada from Atlas of Earth Prime together. All I've decided for certain is that Avro Arrow is team leader.

So America's patriotic symbol was a part super soldier part sex slave to a powerful fey, I liked how twisted that is. By the way, I'm little sad that someone used that name before me. :D

Glad you liked it. Should I ever get around to detailing the fey realms in Mightyverse, the evil fae might get detailed more. Thus far I've not even decided what her name is, though she is tough albeit not as tough as villains like Morgan le Fey or Maleficent. Which annoys her quite a bit.
