AEGIS Squad, Region 2 (IC) - Night at the Museums

Post by kenseido »

You are in downtown Atlanta outside Argent National Bank. You had just arrived at your new headquarters when you got the call from Atlanta PD. Several metahumans broke into Argent National Bank and they have 12 hostages, mostly bank employees.

Sgt Alfred Handmore explains the situation. "Approximately 1 hour ago, several figures entered the bank wearing heavy coats. A security guard approached them and was tossed across the bank by one of them. They herded everyone into the conference room. They removed their coats and two of them appear to be cyborgs and two others are robots. Or maybe it's some fancy power armor. I don't know. Two men went into the vault, and the woman who appears to be in charge went into another conference room with one of the robots."

"We were tapped into the security cameras, and here is the layout. They filled the hallway to the side exit with furniture making it impassable."

Key: M1, M2 - Men working on vault
W - Woman in charge
R - Robot
C - Cyborg

Zyzzak can tell the robots are robots, or housing very small beings. He can also tell the technology of the robots is a few decades old at least. The cyborgs, on the other hand, are modern.

"Cool" Luke
HP: 1
CND: Ice Cold

Lukes signing up, training, and very brief introduction to the new HQ had ben a whirl wind. One day he was charming some attractive coeds on Bourbon Street and the next he was getting drilled on how to represent Aegis, shoot a gun, and be a proper enough Aegis agent. To say he fit the mold of the typical agent would be a lie. His shooting was on par with the typical agent, respect for authority so so, negotiation skills off the charts, and attitude less than agent material. Aegis couldn't afford to be picky though. It didn't hurt that several agents vouched for him and did everything for his application except sign his name on the dotted line.

Coming on to the scene, he was sporting the Aegis armoured uniform, slightly modified to fit his style. It wasn't like he needed the armour, so he got the equipment people to make his a black motorcycle jacket with the Aegis patch in all the right places. For pants, he went with simple enough jeans. To add a bit of flair, he wore the latest in black sun glasses fashion and brownish hat to complete the outfit. Under the ice serving as a protective barrier, the slick black outfit looked like it could be right off a runway in Paris.

It had to be a bank. Nothing was on fire, so it was a good start. Robots also made him feel a bit better as his brother didn't have a history of working with those. Nor would he likely stick around this long unless he had other reasons. Regardless, he hoped this wasn't one of those situations that would make him regret signing up. "Anyone get a list of their demands or negotiating with them for the release of the hostages? An hour is a while to be there if they just want some money.", says Luke.

Evelyn "Bulwark" Gracen
HP: 1
Cnd: Healthy

Evelyn arrived on scene with her new team with a purposeful disposition. Her dark hair cut short and her AEGIS uniform unmodified. A set of matching gloves covered her hands. Underneath it all she had already coated the majority of her body in metal she had a stock of at their HQ. After the quick briefing they received she followed up Luke's questions and observations.

"Let's get images of their faces. Any of them been IDed yet?"

Her dark brown eyes moved to the video footage of the bank's layout, taking note of the area that had been blocked off.

"What options do we have for gaining access to the conference room with the hostages? Windows? Ventilation ducts?"

She offered a brief pause before pointing at the image near the front of the bank.

"My initial thought is that we could use a negotiator to pull attention away from the conference room where the hostages are located. Someone attention grabbing. Then we make an entry to secure the hostage. But we'll need quick access to them or a way for one or two people to be in close proximity before executing. That guard needs to be taken down fast."

Her hand moved with that last statement, her index finger jabbing at the guard stationed watch over the hostages.

Harry "The Shield" Mackenzie

Harry leans forward looking at the map, trying to memorize it as quickly as possible. He was wearing his old costume, with an AEGIS logo emblazoned on the shoulders. For the moment his brodie hat was sitting on the table, next to where he'd leaned his namesake shield, and he'd pulled back his cowl.

"Their plan isn't terrible. They've blocked the entrance to try to force the entry through the front, then they've surrounded the hostages so that even if we do come in they'll be able to reach them before we do," Harry said, "Maybe using the bank's own camera system to track if anybody comes in?"

"I agree with Bulwark. Our best bet would be if we could enter near the conference room where the hostages are, if anybody has an ability they think might help?"
He looks around to the rest of the new team, "Any roof access or entry from above or below?"

It wasn't likely as it was a bank, but in his years he'd seen far stranger things.

All

"Their are no windows or any way in other than the main entrance and side exit. The conference room is on an exterior wall, but the hostages are along that wall, so any breach would hit them first. They have refused all attempts at communication and have offered no demands."

"The only people we have identified are the two men in the vault. Mile and Arron Strain, a father-son team of safe crackers."

Harry, on the other hand, recognizes the very distinctive design of the robots. They were called Juggernauts used by a group that supported the Nazis in WWII calling themselves the Horde. The robots were tough with nasty weaponry and electrified surface.

Their leader, Khan was said to be pretty insane. The Horde had extremely advanced technology for the time. They served a minor role during the war and were never captured. They haven't been seen or heard from since.

One of the members was a Russian spy who went by the codename Czarina. She turned on her country to be with Khan. The woman in charge looks similar to her.

Harry doesn't really remember anything else about the Horde.

Harry "The Shield" Mackenzie

"Well, now. Will you look at that?" Harry mumbles to himself as he inspects the pictures.

"This was back during the second world war, but I'd swear these are Horde Juggernauts. Automatons, so no need to worry about hurting anybody inside. Problem is that they were extremely tough, heavily armed, and they used to electrify the armor plating so punching them isn't the best plan."

He taps the screen showing the woman, "That's another member of the Horde. Czarina. Former, uh..." Harry glances at the group and decides to keep it simple rather then go into a pointless historical geography lesson, "Russian spy. Turned traitor, joined the Horde. She was Kahn, the leader's right hand man. Or woman as the case may be."

"From what I remember the Horde wasn't a part of Germany or the Nazis, just worked for them. They had incredibly advanced technology, and their leader had a reputation for being a complete lunatic. They all disappeared after the war,"
He shakes his head, "I never ran across these guys myself. I only heard about them in occasional briefings, so I'm afraid you now know as much about them as I do."

Zyzzak
HP:1 LP:1 CND: Unhurt

A half second delay between sounds from the former alien invader and the issuance of words indicates he's using his suit's translation circuits, likely so he doesn't miss anything crucial in the briefing. His command of English, though good, was still imperfect.
"The technology of the 'robots'.." he makes air quotes with two of the six fingers on each hand, "...is decades old by your standards. I may be able to override their programming on site."

"If we use precise, non-explosive ways to dissolve an area of the external wall in the conference room we should be able to get the hostages out. I can simultaneously phase in through the ceiling or upper wall to either engage their one robot guard, should it prove resistant to tampering, or any of the more modern Cyborgs that come through the door should they notice our attempts to get the hostages out. Your own 'A-Team' did something similar, and it was gloriously successful."

"I likewise offer a stealth field to cover myself and someone close to me as a means to approach the wall undetected."

"In adjunct, I am happy to be working with you all." the enthusiastic alien adds.
"Something pithy this way comes."

The Shield

If it is the original Czarina, she would be in her hundreds by now. And you don't recall her being a metahuman.

Madame Macabre

HP: 1
Cnd: Healthy

The time allotted Elizabeth for meeting and getting acquainted with her teammates is cut short by the brazen attack on the main branch of a well-known bank.

There will be plenty of time for socializing later. AEGIS has brought us together to protect our fellow citizens. I need to show them I belong here...that they didn't make a mistake bringing me on board.

The pale young woman sits quietly, looking at the map and listening to the others. Her black robe covers her entire body except for the cowl which is pulled about her shoulders. There are runes and symbols of silver color that adorn the edges of her garment. the AEGIS symbol stitched into the right shoulder of her vestment contrasts with the otherwise mystical look of her attire.

"The robots could pose a problem for me, but the cyborgs should be vulnerable to my magic...as should the rest of the culprits."
OOC: Are the front doors comprised of any glass such that Elizabeth could see into the main area of the bank. If so, then she will suggest the following:
"If I can see in through the front doors of the bank, I could safely teleport myself and one other person well into the lobby. We could be inside and attacking the cyborgs before they can react. That would take the pressure off of whoever decides to enter the conference room. Anyone wanna 'pop in' for a little visit with our burglars? "

Harry "The Shield" Mackenzie

Harry frowns as he looks at another picture of the woman from a different direction.

"I might be wrong about it being Czarina herself, it might just be somebody related to Czarina. Nose looks a little off from this direction," He admits.

Silver Phoenix:
[Harper Zhao]
Condition: Fine

Harper hadn't had much of a chance to really meet the rest of her team with the robbery happening, so she had done as her masters had taught her - be quiet, listen and watch. As the situation was explained to her, Harper realized that her martial skills would not be helpful in gaining entry into the bank. Dealing with the would-be robbers on the other hand, once they were inside, were another matter. Though if her aged comrade was correct then she would be better off handling either the cyborgs or the men working on the vault.

That would take the pressure off of whoever decides to enter the conference room. Anyone wanna 'pop in' for a little visit with our burglars? "
"I could help in dealing with the cyborgs." She offers quietly, assuming that her not commenting on how the team would gain entry would make it clear to the others that she had no idea how to solve that problem.

All

While the doors are heavily tinted preventing a good view from outside, the police have access to the security cameras so you can visualize anywhere in the bank, except the bathrooms. There are no rooms with closed doors other than the conference room with the hostages and the one with Czarina.

Harry glances at the camera feeds then turns to Madame Macabre, "Out of curiosity, does your teleportation require line of sight? Or just to be able to see the location you want to teleport to?"

Assuming the camera footage is accurate, Madame Macabre can teleport to a location in range that is being viewed by camera as long as she knows roughly where it is. So in this case, she can teleport into the conference room with someone else.

Harry "The Shield" Mackenzie

Harry nods, "Okay. Here's a thought."

"What we can do is we can get three people into conference room with the hostages. Zyzzak can sneak in under his own power through the north wall, and Madame Macabre can teleport one person in with her. I'd suggest either Bulwark or Cool Luke."

"Zyzzak can use his pulse weaponry to push the Juggernaut out of the room. Bulwark or Luke can then use their powers to block off the room to prevent the rest of the forces for coming for the hostages."

"The rest of us will enter from the south to draw their fire while the hostages are extracted, with whoever comes with me and Silver Phoenix will help barricade the conference room from the other side."

He taps a finger against the table, "That is assuming we're allowed to put a hole in the conference room wall, from the inside, to allow the hostages out. Otherwise this gets far more complicated."

"We'd have to build a wall with metal and ice to block off entry to the conference room but still give access to the east exit. Then you'd have to take out the juggernaut and the cyborg before clearing the obstruction and escorting the hostages out."

He shakes his head with a distant expression, "Herding hostages is kind of like herding cats. The less options they have, the better it tends to go."
