I’m not surprised that Katsuma is so popular, here’s hoping we get to see him at least once more. Keep up the good work! I’m hoping to see some, uh…red, white, blue, and muscle soon, if you know what I’m sayin’, haha
Yeah, it would be pretty cool if he managed to get a main series appearance before the end of the series, since he's probably my favorite member of the "Midoriya Fanboy Kids Trio," LOL. The movie manages to represent his heroic spirit really well in that sense.

Since he's from spinoff media, it's unfortunately not very likely, but it would be pretty cool. And, hey, technically "Red, White, Blue, and Muscle" originally came from a movie as well, so who knows.

28 Abilities, 15 Powers, 5 Advantages, 23 Skills, 20 Defenses = 91 Character Points

About: Rody Soul is a carefree, yet wary and quick-witted young street rat from Otheon, who used to work shady odd jobs along local villains to make ends meet for his younger siblings. His quirk, Soul, grants him his partner, Pino, a female colorful bird who is a manifestation of Rody's inner psyche and conscience, always acting as his sense of right and wrong and true desires would cause him to, even when it goes against him. He mainly uses Pino to distract his enemies while he makes his escape, considering the bird nuisance in most situations, since her reactions immediately give away his lies and intent.

Rody's dad, Eddie Soul, was a famous and rich engineer in Otheon, and cared a lot for his children, whom he had to raise by himself after the tragic death of his wife, teaching puzzles and other logical skills to his children. However, one day, he mysteriously disappeared, as it became known he had joined the apocalyptic quirk-hating cult Humarize, which caused Rody and his siblings, Roro and Lala, to become avoided by others, who fear they might be associated with Humarize as well. Having lost their wealth, family and friends, and moving to a rundown trailer, Rody promises his little brother and sister that he'd always do everything he can to protect them, no matter what it took, and that he would never abandon them like their father did, giving up on his dream of becoming an airplane pilot to do so, instead taking odd jobs here and there to pay their bills and give the two an education.

As Rody grew up into his teen years, he started taking jobs from Stanleyk, a man who acted as contact and networker of the criminal underworld of Otheon, running a bar as a front. He is hesitant to give Rody jobs, presumably not wanting to entangle him too much in the life of crime and villainy most of his clients live, but also wants to help him find a way to get money, giving him a job at the start of the movie to move the stolen jewels he had two other villains take at the start of the movie and drop them off.

Rody patiently waits at the pick up point, but finds out that the villains who were supposed to drop off the jewels were being chased by heroes, giving the jewels to him in a rush and telling him to book it, as Rody starts to run in a panic, and Midoriya gives chase. During his escape, Rody takes advantage of the urban environment and his ease with navigating it, tripping Midoriya up with the uneven rooftops, swinging on clotheslines, and dodging opening and closing windows with ease, as all these slow Midoriya down. This chase eventually leads the pair near the town's highway, where a car crash suddenly takes place, causing Rody to briefly drop the briefcase as he dodges, having to quickly pick it up again before continuing to run, as this eventually leads the hero and the street urchin down to the city's subway station.

Midoriya demands to see what's in the briefcase, but Rody, noticing that Midoriya is a foreign hero, argues that he has no authority to make him comply to that. Despite this, Midoriya still insists that he needs to inspect the briefcase, annoying Rody, as the two start to try to pull the object away from each other, causing it to collapse to the ground and open, revealing that its contents were random papers and books, which completely baffles the pai. Midoriya profusely apologizes, kneeling to the ground in a dogeza position and repeatedly begging for forgiveness, as Rody, still confused about the briefcase not containing the stolen jewels, quickly dismisses him by saying it's alright, trying to exit the subway station as soon as possible, realizing the briefcase must have gotten swapped out when he ran into the car crash earlier.

As he leaves the station, however, he is suddenly surrounded by the local police, who draw their guns on the boy, who is stunned by the situation. Midoriya approaches, trying to defuse the situation, but the cops immediately open fire on the pair, causing the hero to spring into action, grabbing Rody Soul and leaping away. As they are evading the cops, suddenly, a villain, Beros, starts shooting arrows she can control with her quirk at the two from far away, causing Midoriya to destroy the arrows with his quirk while he gets away with Rody.

The pair land at a riverbank, as Rody confusedly asks what the hell is going on. Midoriya says that he doesn't really know, but thinks that the cops and Beros are probably working together, and that something is up. The hero calls Todoroki, who informs him that the local news are claiming that Midoriya has killed a group of civilians, and has started a country-wide manhunt for him, and that he needs to destroy his cellphone's chip as soon as possible so they can't track him down, while he and the rest of the Endeavor Agency try to locate him. After doing what Todoroki told him, Midoriya speculates that their enemy wants the briefcase they have for some reason, with Rody then saying that they should probably just comply and give them the briefcase then, but Midoriya argues that they would probably kill them anyways if they did that not to let any loose ends, which terrifies the teen, as the pair is now on the run.

The two plan to first make their way to the neighboring country of Klayd, where they would be away from the local law enforcement's jurisdiction, as the two put on disguises and start their roadtrip through the country, avoiding the attention of law enforcement and members of Humarize. Midoriya is eventually able to send a coded message to Todoroki to communicate they are moving to the Klayd border, while Rody uses a payphone to call Stanleyk, asking him to tell his younger brother and sister that he is OK, but Stanleyk, stressed about the whole situation and Rody having lost the jewels, ignores him and just yells at the street rat to get him the jewels back quickly.

As Midoriya and Rody stop to sleep for the night, consumed with concerned for his siblings, Rody gets up in the middle of the night to contact the authorities, hoping to sell Midoriya out so they can recover the briefcase, in exchange for him being allowed to return home to his family, which causes Pino to become concerned, since Rody is hesitant about this, as his quirk tries to wake Midoriya up.

Taking the briefcase with him, the teen goes to the meeting place they agreed with, seeing Humarise's helicopter land in the middle of a field, as Rogone and Beros appear to collect the briefcase. However, Rogone says they can't have Rody out as a loose end that could potentially get in the way of their plans, using his quirk to transform into a huge oni-like monster and attack the boy, being intercepted and defeated by Midoriya, who, warned by Pino, arrived just in time to save his ally, recovering the briefcase and using his quirk to get away with Rody and Pino.

After the two escape, Rody asks the hero why he would save a criminal like him, who was stealing jewels when they met, and who had even just tried to sell him out to their enemy. Midoriya just replies that he is a hero, and heroes save and help others no matter what kind of person they are or what they've done, which touches Rody, who opens up to Midoriya and shares his life story with him, telling the hero about his family's history and how he had to abandon his dreams to be able to provide for his siblings, stating that he and Midoriya couldn't be more different, as they are on different sides of the law, and Midoriya chased his dreams of being a hero no matter what.

As the next morning comes, Midoriya wakes up to see that Rody has brought over an old rundown van he got from a nearby farm, having left its owner a note saying that the World Heroes Association will pay for it later. As the two continue their travel, they start getting closer, learning more about each other and their histories, as Rody tells Midoriya about his quirk, which he is embarassed about, since it doesn't really allow him to lie effectively, but Midoriya counters that it is an amazing quirk, and that it's a reflection of Rody himself.

As the two continue travelling, they are once again attacked by Beros and Sidero, the latter almost killing Rody, before Bakugo and Todoroki arrive to help the two, resulting In Beros killing herself after eliminating Sidero after he offered to trade information on Humarise in exchange for the heroes letting him go.

With the three now together, they are able to figure out why the briefcase was valuable, as Rody discovers an SD card within it hidden within a puzzle his dad had taught him as a child, where they learn that Eddie Soul and other scientists had been forced to work for Humarise for years, developing their Ideo-Trigger bombs, and that they were planning attacks on all the major cities of the world, which would have a gigantic body count of people with quirks, as the three heroes and Rody decide to fly a plane to their base and stop the bombs from going off, since the SD card also contains a key to deactivate them if plugged on the main computer at Humarise's HQ.

The four arrive at the island base of Humarise, with Rody flying their plane with his limited experience as a pilot, having only 30 minutes to stop the detonation after their arrival. Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki make their way in the base, fighting goons and powerful Humarise members, and Rody stays behind and ends up being spotted by cultists, who inform him that, if he gives the SD card to Flect Turn, their leader, they will make sure that no harm comes to him or his siblings, taking Rody to Flect's room.

Arriving there, Rdy sees Midoriya beaten to the ground during his fight with the cult leader, unable to overcome his powerful reflection quirk with his own. Seeing this, Rody tells Midoriya that it's too late, since they now only have a couple of minutes, and that there is no way Midoriya can deal with Flect, apologizing and saying that he needs to keep his family ssafe, which panics Midoriya, until he notices Pino, who is doing a thumbs up sign to the hero, communicating that this is all a bluff by Rody, who had found a clever way to make use of his quirk to more easily communicate a code to the hero student. Just before handing Flect the SD card, Rody jumps over him, making a sprint towards the HQ's computer, as Midoriya rejoins the fight to hold the powerful villain back, but does so too late, as one of the base's defense lasers hist Rody.

Still undeterred despite his injuries, the young street rat powers through the pain, making his way to the computer, despite falling in the hallway several times, getting up and continuing to stumble since the fate of the world is in his hands now. Finally, with only a few seconds left, Rody manages to insert the card on the computeer, deactivating the bombs, as Midoriya enters the room to see his friend, having just won his own difficult fight against Flect. Only semi-conscious, Rody asks Midoriya if he managed to protect his family, with Midoriya replying, with tears in his eyes, that he did.

Some time later, after Rody recovers in the hospital and reunites with his family, he goes to the airport to see the Endeavor Agency temps off, saying that Midoriya was a pain in his ass and that eh hopes to never see him again, while Pino is teary eyed on his shoulder, communicating his true feelings to the hero, who just smiles back at him. Midoriya asks Rody what he plans to do now, and the teen answers that he will try to find a way to have a normal life, though he knows it won't be easy. The two hug after their goodbyes and part ways.

Later, we see Rody talking with Stanleyk, asking him if he has any legit work for him, as the barman sighs, finally giving in, and saying that one of his employees at the bar had just quit, and that Rody could take his place, which causes Rody to smile, finally able to leave hios life of crime behind.

Rody is a pretty cool guy, probably the best character in the third movie. His quirk is pretty interesting and seeing he and Midoriya growing closer as the plot develops is also pretty cool, especially since Midoriya sympathizing with a criminal is a pretty unique thing. I think the conclusion Rody's character got was also really good, going through a complete arc in a way that felt pretty organic. Kind of a shame that we won't get to see more of him and Midoriya hanging out, honestly. Also, I would just like to point out that Pino, who, as a quirk, is supposed to be "a manifestation of Rody's psyche and soul" appearing as a colorful pink and yellow female bird ends up carrying some very unintended implications with it, LOL.

As for the build, ended up doing Pino as a Sidekick instead of a Summon, since she just kind of seems to be constantly hanging around Rody, and not something he can summon at will or anything, and decided that she should be a Sidekick and not a Minion due to she being able to survive being pierced by one of Humarise's lasers and stuff. Also, gave him a couple of movement effects to represent his ease with navigating the city, jumping across rooftops, swinging on clotheslines and being unhindered by the uneven terrain, able to even trip Midoriya up there.

Outfits: Rody's clothing is very patchy and dirty due to his living condition. He is seen wearing a patched up pale blue button up shirt, a pair of ankle-length patchy black pants, a pair of dark grey gloves, a pair of dark brown social shoes wrapped with grey cloth, and his signature red bandanna and pair of sunglasses. He also wears a tan jacket over his shirt and a checkered blue and red tie.

Re: Solar's Build Thread - Boku no Hero Academia Update

Post by SolarOracle »

And with Rody an Pino posted, we are officially done with civilian builds. Next up, a couple of non-builds for some other civilians I haven't posted yet, mainly the family members of the main cast. Then, we can move on to hero and villain builds I didn't post before for one reason or another, which there are a few of.

Another Lil' Cool Freaking Collection of Non-Build Civilians - The Non-Family Members

Post by SolarOracle »

You know how it is! Finishing up the main series civilians build set, let's spend a post or two talking about the civilians I didn't build and why I didn't do it, tho in this case, they are all for pretty much the same reason - lack of information on them or their quirks. This post will cover the non-build civilians who aren't part of any main character's family.

Image

The Star-Headed Man

About: A man who first appears in the first chapter who happened to be besides Midoriya while Kamui Woods and Mt. Lady were fighting against the Giant Villain, noticing Midoriya's knowledge of the heroes and their moves, commenting that he seems like a massive superhero fanboy, saying that he'll be cheering for him to make it as a hero when he notices how diligently he was taking notes on Mt. Lady.

He returns over 320 chapters later, being in the U.A. campus along other civilians when Midoriya returns there during the Tartarus Escapees arc, defending Midoriya from the crowd after Uraraka calms them down, saying that he deserves to rest there for a while after all he's done, saying that he realized that hero society was like a spectacle, and that he's always just been nothing more than a spectator, and now that the system is on the verge of collapse, the least he can do is to offer the help they can to those still on the stage fighting for them, which seems to initiate the shift in opinion of the crowd. What a cool dude!

Image

Miyagi Saito

About: Miyagi is a recurring character, being pretty much THE news person on the Hero Academia universe, shown as a talking head on TV whenever a major event has taken place, and having a quirk named Big Horn, which grants him a pair of large horns on his forehead. At some point in the past, he cut one of his horns off to "be able to relay the news better," which I assume means he did it to fit better in the camera's frame, which was seen as a controversial decision by quirk activists, who saw it as a rejection of the notion of quirks, however, due to his popularity and objective commentary on the news, he managed to maintain his fanbase and position.

Image

Magne's Friend

About: Magne's friend whom she mentioned briefly before being killed by Overhaul. Magne said she had been inspired after meeting up with her friend, whom she described as a gentle soul, who said she deeply admired Magne's drive to change the world and go against the norms of society to find acceptance even if that meant becoming a villain, since she would never have that courage.

Image
Image

Ikoma Komari

About: The young teacher at Masagaki Elementary School, Ikoma is a very emotional woman who is almost always shown crying in distress over how her students are misbehaving and how she can't keep them in check. After seeing Bakugo, Todoroki, Camie and Yoarashi entertain and inspire her students during their provisional license exam, she is inspired to keep trying her best to make a breakthrough with them, hopeful that the impression the heroes left might make them more well behaved.

Image

The "Can't You See?!" Kid

About: The "Can't You See?!" Kid, whose real name is Tameda Hiroshi, is a huge Endeavor fan, especially of the hero's seeming lack of care about his popularity and his determination to always win and surpass All Might. While the people are horrified watching Endeavor fight Hood, Tameda is the one to turn the media's opinion on the situation around, pointing out how he's there fighting for them 'til the very end, no matter how gruesome it may look, and that the people should be cheering for him saying "Can't you see he is fighting for us right now?!" which popularized his nickname and status as a meme within the world, as the public opinion on Endeavor started to shift. We briefly get to see him during the Paranormal Liberation Front arc, where he is shown horrified watching the news after Dabi relays his backstory and Endeavor's abuse to the world. Kind of wonder where he is now.

Image

Kuraishisu Aorio

About: A hero expert who makes a brief appearance after the Meta Liberation Army arc, where he talks about society's shifting opinion on
pro heroes as a talk piece in the news.

Image

Miyashita

About: An employee of the Detnerat Company who worked directly under Re-Destro, commonly teasing his boss for how stressed out with work he would get. After he criticized the writings of Destro, he was murdered by his boss in a fit of rage after he confirmed that Miyashi had no family that would go looking for him. Pretty dark stuff.

Image

The Mother of Quirks

About: An important historical figure, The Mother of Quirks is the first person to coin the term quirk after her son, who would grow up to become Destro, the supreme commander of the original Meta Liberation Army, was born with a meta ability. She was persecuted due to her son being a meta human, saying to the news that he was just a normal person, and that his power was just a small quirk of his, which gave origin to the term "quirks" for super powers and its usage as a more socially conscious replacement for meta abilities. She would later be murdered due to her role in helping normalize meta abilities, further inspiring Destro to dedicate his life to activism and warfare in defense of quirks, eventually resulting into his radicalism.

Image

Saito

About: An old classmate of Toga's, and her first love whom she murdered. After seeing him covered in blood after a fight, Toga's suppressed obsession with blood manifested itself as a murderous rage, killing her classmate and drinking his blood through a paper straw, smiling while she did it, which started her life as a villain on the run. He has a very similar appearance to Midoriya, probably explaining why Toga was so immediately obsessed with him as well.

Image

Lala & Roro Soul

About: Rody Soul's younger siblings who, like their older brother, were forced to live in isolation after their father's association with Humarise was discovered. Living in a rundown trailer, they help Rody out with keeping the place in order while he is out doing odd jobs. They serve as Rody's main motivation, since he is working shady jobs all for the sake of being able to provide for them, and risks his life multiple times to make sure they are all right. By the end of the movie, they are able to go to school again now that the fact that their father was actually kidnapped by Humarise came to light, and are shown drawing Bakugo, Midoriya and Todoroki, clearly thankful for all the heroes did for their family.

Image

Stanleyk

About: A man who works as a scout and contact for the criminal underworld of his city in Otheon, running a bar as a front. He is shown to be concerned for Rody, hesitant to get him involved in a life of crime, but also wanting to give him jobs so he can make a lifing somehow. By the end of the movie, he ends up giving Rody a legit job at his bar so the teen can live a civilian life away from crime.

Two Villains I forgot to Post Back in My Villain Non-Build Posts, Oops, LOL

Post by SolarOracle »

Somehow these two slipped my mind back then, despite their importance to the story relative to, like, a bunch of nameless alleyway thugs or one-off villain teams. I couldn't be at peace with myself if I didn't do one of these posts for them, so let's quickly go over them before talking about characters' families and stuff.

Image

Destro

About: Re-Destro's ancestor and the founder and grand commander of the original Meta Liberation Army and their ideology. I already went over his backstory in detail on the MLA post, so I won't get too into it, but I always thought Destro was pretty interesting as a historical figure, showing the societal clash that comes from the emergence of super powers and meta abilities as a "new evolution of mankind." I also like the small detail of the original symbol of the Meta Liberation Army being a mouse's silhouette, since Overahul stated that quirks have been theorized to have come from mutations in small rodents in the past.

Image

Harima Oji

About: The peerless thief, Harima was something of a Robin Hood type, who stole from unjust and wealthy heroes who profited from fake heroics to give it back to the people, making him a very interesting figure. He's also the great-great-grandfather of Mr. Compress, who idolizes his ancestor and wants to live up to his legacy and title. Really wish we could get to know more about this guy, he sounds like a really interesting character.

Hero Public Safety Commission

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

Realized I should probably talk about these guys before we get to the main cast's families, so let's spend two posts on them!

The Hero Public Safety Commission is the branch of the Japanese government that manages pro heroes and their relationship with society as a whole, being the organ that licenses pro heroes, and also acts as a special investigation team for especially dangerous cases of quirk-related crimes. They very selectively employ certain pro heroes to work directly for them, usually offering them special training from a young age in order to do that, such as Hawks, who worked as a spy and agent of theirs in the past, and Lady Nagant, who worked as an agent and assassin for them.

As Lady Nagant's backstory makes evident, the Hero Public Safety Commission is in reality extremely shady and secretive, running secret operations that would be otherwise illegal, such as preventive assassinations of individual who can pose a potential future threat, even if they are still innocent, and covering up for corrupt heroes and even assassinating them and covering it as an unrelated incident in more extreme cases, as they prioritize the pure and inspiring image of pro heroes above all else, even if a lot of that is a lie. This dark nature of them proved too much for Nagant when she was exposed to it for too long, driving her to cynicism and depression, as she thought of society and the hope people have in heroes as a fragile paper-thin lie, that if broken, would incite mass panic and paranoia, and that all heroes are nothing more than greedy and corrupt people lying to society in order to profit off their belief in them, which is a somewhat justifiable stance, considering what she lived through and what we are shown of the way pro heroes operate and how their rankings are essentially a big popularity contest, filled with duplicitousness and lies.

Currently in the series, after the pro heroes planned a trap for Re-Destro by having him meet with the Hero Public Safety Commission so he could be ambushed and arrested, only for that to backfire, as the Re-Destro that went was a Double created by Twice, and was powerful enough to wreck their HQ and kill several of their high ranking members, the HPSC is essentially shut down, which got in the way of coordinating aid from international heroes in the current battle against All For One. I suspect that this is setting up a "new era of heroism" for the end of the manga, where the people acting as heroes are doing so out of empathy and a sense of duty, and not being motivated by income and managed by a government branch, but I'm not fully sure about that.

I kind of like how well thought out the Hero Public Safety Commission is, and how morally corrupt they end up becoming, and how a lot of hero society seems to be reflective of that shadiness and corruption to some level, the very same thing that drove Stain to become a killer. It helps ground the setting and make it feel concise.

Hero Public Safety Commission Members

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

The Old President

About: The president of the HPSC back when Lady Nagant was first recruited by them, who initially was presented as a friendly and approachable man who wanted to mentor and inspire Nagant, only to become more and more cold as time went on, consumed by the corruption, shadiness and general grimness of the branch he ran, seeing all the immorality of it as a necessary evil for the sake of the stability of hero society. After Lady Nagant questions her orders, after she herself became tired of it all, he tries to kill her, saying this isn't a job she can simply walk away from, only to be killed by her.

Image

The Current President

About: Well, "current," seeing as the future of the HPSC is uncertain and she can possibly have died during Re-Destro's attack. She was vice-president at the time the old president recruited Lady Nagant, and seems to have learned from his mistakes, as the level of corruption seems to have decreased after she took charge, tho they still partake in a lot of the same shady dealings as before. She was empathetic to Nagant, choosing to have her arrested instead of killed, despite this increasing the risk of internal information being leaked, and chose to have Nagant's successor, Hawks, be raised and trained by them from a very young age to avoid him breaking like Lady Nagant did. Like I mentioned, her current status in unknown.

Image

Mera Yokumiru

About: A constantly exhausted, overworked and unenthusiastic worker of the Hero Public Safety Commission, and it's current acting president due to his boss having been injured or killed during Re-Destro's attack, tho he doesn't seem to have a lot of power, considering the current status of the government branch. He's a relatively recurring character, first appearing during the Provisional License Exam arc as its supervisor, and reappearing sporadically pretty much every time the HPSC is involved in the main plot of an arc. I kind of like this guy, hope we get to see some more of him before the end.

Of all the main characters' families, Todoroki's is the one we get to see the most of, mostly due to their complicated history and the prominence Endeavor ends up getting in the story after a certain point, all of which is pretty interesting. A thing I forgot to bring up when I posted Endeavor's build is how his aesthetics and themes are meant to foil All Might's in a way, which is also reflected on his family and home. We see Endeavor spending his life absorbed in hard work and obsession, trying to best All Might, and how he has a more traditional Japanese aesthetic, including the having the Japanese kanji 大, meaning "grandness" or "big" (which is also apparently associated with fire) as his symbol, which is the reverse of All Might's "natural born all American hero" aesthetic and how he inherited his power from someone else instead of having to hone it to perfection like Endeavor (which isn't to say All Might didn't have to put training into developing his quirk, of course, but there's still a theme there), making the rivalry of the two heroes kind of a East vs West thing.

Like I mentioned, all this reflects on Endeavor's family and home life, living in a very traditional and big Japanese house. Enji also had an arranged marriage with his wife, all for the sake of having a successor who could surpass All Might, which lead to Endeavor being extremely demanding, distant and abusive to them, all of which I always felt was commentary on the more negative cultural aspects of Japanese family life, of being too demanding of your children and having a somewhat cold relationship with them.

All of this also serves to build on Shoto and Dabi's characters as well, further cementing them as mirror images of each others, with Dabi as the "failed" first son who was discarded and seen as a disappointment by their father, and how he grew remorseful and vengeful, wanting nothing more then to destroy the status quo and culture that lead to his abuse, and Todoroki as the son who succeeded, and whom, despite having enormous issues with the family structure he had, is still seen by his dad as a success. And of course, the arc Endeavor later goes on also sort of serves to show how this familial structure is something he regrets, as it alienated him from his wife and children and made it so he had no one who truly loved him, and forced him to take action to salvage as much as possible and try to atone, despite it already probably being too late.

As for why none of these people got their own builds, it's the lack of information on their quirks again. Despite we knowing that all the other members of the Todoroki family have an ice quirk of some kind, we don't really know how each of them work, so I decided not to build them. On with the individual bios!

Todoroki Rei

About: Endeavor's wife who, as a result of Endeavor's obsession with having a son with a perfect quirk and the psychological toll this took on the entire family, ended up attacking Shoto in a panic caused when she saw the left half of his face and it reminded her of her husband, with her using her quirk to try to heal his burns, leading her to being interned in a psychological ward afterwards and to Shoto growing even more resentful of his father and how his obsession was destroying his family.

As the series goes on and Todoroki starts coming to terms with his powers and identity, we see him starting to frequently visit his mom at the hospital and telling her about his studies as a hero and how he's come to accept the fire part of his quirk as well, all of which makes her very glad, as she starts becoming more emotionally expressive and less catatonic, slowly interacting more with the other members of her family, aside from her husband, of course, tho he would often come to the hospital and leave her flowers. As Endeavor starts trying to become close with his children again, she encourages them to try to mend their relationship with their dad as well, noticing the effort Enji was putting on, both as the new number one hero and as their father.

After the battle against the Paranormal Liberation Army, which ended with Shigaraki inheriting All For One and Dabi revealing his true identity, as well as publicly disclosing Endeavor's family history and abuse on live TV, the number one hero is completely and utterly emotionally broken, crying in the hospital and apologizing to his children about how much he's failed them, until Rei enters the room and tells him to get his shit together, and that she failed Toya just as much as him, and that now he needs to focus on recovering, and that she and the rest of the family will stay with him during this difficult time, and that they all needed to support Shoto, since he was the family's true hero and the key to defeating Dabi.

I really like Rei, and seeing her recover as the series goes on and she sees that Shoto doesn't blame her for what happened and still loves her, despite him having every right to after what she's done, in her opinion. Kind of a shame we don't fully learn about her quirk, but it can be kind of assumed it's probably some large scale ice generation power like Shoto's. I'm kind of excited to see if she still has a further role to play in the story, as the whole Dabi stuff seems to currently be coming to an end, and maybe having her talk with him for a final time before he is defeated for good could be pretty cool, or just seeing what will happen to her and her family after the story ends.

Todoroki Fuyumi

About: The second eldest child of the Todoroki family, Fuyumi is a 23 year old elementary school teacher, and the one who ended up having to take care of the house and family after her mom went away and her father became more distant from his children. She is shown to be caring and very friendly, wanting to keep the family together after everything they went through and trying to mediate between her brothers and her father after he starts trying to approach his children again. She is also said to have some kind of ice quirk, tho we don't know exactly what.

Image

Todoroki Natsuo

About: The third child of the Todoroki family, Natsuo is a young college student studying medicine. Unlike his sister, he is shown having a much harder time accepting their father back into their lives after the abuse the family suffered due to him, storming out of the room when they were eating dinner together as he found himself unable to be in the same room as him, leading to him being captured by Ending, and to Endeavor, Bakugo, Midoriya and Shoto having to rescue him, as he hugs his father and says he doesn't know if he will ever forgive him, which causes Endeavor to give him and Fuyumi space away from him, as he deems that necessary for the wellbeing of his family.

He has some degree of reconciliation with his father at the end of the Paranormal Liberation Army arc, when he, Fuyumi and Rei come to visit Endeavor in the hospital after the fight, and Rei says that the family needs to stay together, as Natsuo says that he feels some degree of guilt about what happened with Toya, since he never helped him stand up to their father, and that him turning into Dabi is especially hurtful to him since hew as always very close to Toya.

I don't think it would be very controversial to say that Natsuo is the most boring Todoroki, though I do kind of wonder what will happen to him and his relationship with his dad as the story ends. He also has an ice quirk of some kind.

Kurumada Untenmaru

About: Not really a family member, but he's so associated with Endeavor that it felt more fitting to have him here rather than with the other civilians.

Kurumada is Endeavor's personal chauffeur, driving the hero from and to work in his limo. He's shown to be somewhat aggressive and prideful, making snide remarks toward Bakugo and Midoriya, and constantly scoffing. He's a pretty entertaining guy for such a tertiary character, kind of hope we get to see him again. I was very glad when he showed up in the recent Mr. Smiley OVA. Also, the lack of images of him on the internet is kind of sad, LOL.

Ah, Fuyumi…
She’s wonderful…
Forget Midnight. Forget Mt Lady. Forget Mirko. They’re nothing compared to Fuyumi…

Kurumada is both cool and hilarious, hahaha

The Uraraka Family

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

It's kind of surprising how little we get to know about Uraraka's parents, considering how much her family's living and financial situation is brought up, with her mom and dad not even getting named. Uraraka's family lives in a small apartment, often struggling to make ends meets, but still encouraging her to pursue her dreams of being a hero, working extra hard and cutting a lot of corners to have enough money to pay her tuition at U.A. High. Uraraka is extremely grateful to her parents, and wants to have a very profitable career as a hero, so she can at least give something back to them and be able to have them have a prosperous retirement. We don't know anything about the quirks of either parent.

With how little we see of Mr. and Mrs. Uraraka, it's really nice to see them interacting with their daughter, telling her not to worry about them and pursue her dreams, and coming back home early to celebrate with her after the end of U.A.'s school festival tournament, since she managed to score enough points in the school festival games to qualify for the tournament, despite losing in the first round. It's all really cute and cool and stuff, kind of wish we got some more of she interacting with them as major story developments went on, like them being concerned about her safety as the stuff with the League of Villains progressed, or after she fought with Toga or whatever.

The Iida Family

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

A family that has raised heroes for generations, all using the name of Ingenium and having the Engine quirk, the Iida family seems to really value good education, politeness and proper manners, as well as passing down secret techniques that can improve Engine's efficiency throughout the generations. In Tenya's household, we see that he lives with his brother Tensei, his father, mother and grandparents, of whom, only Tensei has any significant development and focus. His grandma also briefly appears, sharing the secrets of the Recipro Turbo technique so Tenya can improve his powers, where he has to manually remove the mufflers from his legs so new, stronger ones can grow, a process that is incredibly painful.

It's kind of a shame that we don't really see any member of the family aside from Tensei and Tenya. It could have been cool to see maybe their grandpa or father talking to Tensei after Stain hurt him so bad he had to retire as a hero, sharing some sympathy as a former hero as well, or just seeing Tenya talking to others who have carried the name of Ingenium so he can better prepare to live up to their legacy and not just his brother's. As is, they mostly seem to exist in the series to establish Iida coming from a long legacy, and cement him as someone who has a lot to live up to.

The Asui Family

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

Asui's family gets brought up once or twice along the story, mostly in the context of her sense of responsibility and care for others coming from her being the oldest child in her household, having a younger brother and a younger sister whom she'd often take care of while her parents were away. Otherwise, not much is known about them, and they haven't really appeared in the main series, nor do I think they will. The one appearance they do make was originally in the bonus chapter from volume 10 of the manga (chapter 84.5), where Asui talks about her life back in middle school and friendship with Habuko Mongoose, and they then got to make an appearance in the anime through the Training of the Dead OVA, as the bonus chapter got adapted as the intro to that OVA, since Habuko got featured in it. Otherwise, we don't really know much about them.

Image

Asui Ganma

About: Tsuyu's dad who seems to have some kind of toad quirk. Kind of wonder how he and his wife met, and what kind of father he was. I like his goofy design tho, with the frog head and office clothes and stuff.

Image

Asui Beru

About: Tsuyu's mother who also has an unknown quirk. She has an interesting design, with a big round head, round eyes like her daughter and a long neck. Again, kind of wish we knew what her deal is.

Image

Asui Samidare

About: Tsuyu's younger brother who is ten years old, also having an unknown quirk. I kind of like how his design is similar to a salamander or a tadpole, and he has more slanted eyes than his siblings. He also seems to be somewhat popular online, for whatever reason, as there is quite a bit of fanart of him out there. Weird.

Image

Asui Satsuki

About: The youngest child in the family, at 6 years old. She also has a design that makes me think of a tadpole, and also has big round eyes like her mother and sister.

The Jiro Family

Post by SolarOracle »

Image

Jiro's mother and father manage to appear in the main series, at the end of the Hideout Raid arc, when Eraser Head and All Might visit their home to try to talk them into allowing their daughter to move into the Heights Alliance dormitory at U.A. so she can be better protected in the future, something that they end up agreeing to, despite initially presenting themselves antagonistically toward the teachers. We also learn in a flashback, during Jiro's concert at the school festival during the Gentle criminal arc, that they taught her music as a child, and tho she was afraid to disappoint them when she decided to become a pro hero instead of a musician, they fully supported her, which was an extremely touching moment to Jiro (and to me. : P) Oh, also, I should probably point out that, like with Bakugo', Jiro's given name seems to be a combination of both of her parents' names, with the "Kyo" coming from Kyotoku's given name and the "Ka" coming from Mika.

Image

Jiro Kyotoku

About: Kyoka's dad is a famous rock composer, who at some point fell in love with Mika due to how talented she was as a musician, and whose quirk we don't know. When he an Mika got married, he took her surname, which seems to be extremely rare among men in Japan. He is shown to be an incredibly supportive dad, being fully on-board with his daughter's decision to be a pro hero rather than a musician, and seems to have helped her study music as a child, undoubtedly being a big influence on why Kyoka got into rock. Personality-wise, he seems to be more of a goofball, contrasting his wife more serious nature, tho he tries to appear more cool and stern when Aizawa and All Might came to visit them. He kind of makes me think of an older Kaminari.

Image

Jiro Mika

About: Kyoka's mother who probably also has a career in music, tho we don't know exactly what. Her quirk is the same as her daughter's, Earphone Jack, which allows her to listen to things at a greater distance and amplify and transmit the soundwaves of her heartbeat through the jacks in her earlobes. Her personality seems to somewhat match her daughter's, being more reserved and serious, contrasting her husband. She's also shown being incredibly encouraging toward her daughter, wanting her to pursue her dreams and be happy, no matter what they are, like she and her husband got to do.
