-Similar to the Four-Eyed Fish, Barreleyes (part of the order that includes Smelt) have developed strange eyes that can look both up and down simultaneously- in this case seeing objects silhouetted against the sunlight from above, and for bioluminescent creatures below them. This is accomplished via trademark barrel-shaped eyes that can be directed in any direction. Transparent bodies, fins and protective eye-coverings all help in stealth, though the small creatures only eat small squids and the like. One, the Spookfish, is the only vertebrate to have evolved actual MIRRORS in its eyes.

-One family of Blennies tend to be venomous, though the venom is only potent enough to affect tiny creatures- it has been shown to only barely lower the heart rate in rats.

Catfish

Post by Jabroniville »

CATFISH:
-The Siluriformes get their name from the prominent barbels on most species- like cats' whiskers, these are used as "feelers" to locate prey on the floor of rivers. Most are freshwater animals, and vary greatly in size from the infamous Candiru (which might SWIM UP YOUR DICKHOLE) to the Mekong Giant Catfish and the Wels Catfish. Catfish do not have scales, and are incredibly popular for eating purposes- being close to human establishments and quite large makes them an easy find. Many catfish are venomous, especially the Eeltails- though this rarely affects humans, there is at least one recorded fatality.

-Most species of catfish are very small- less than 12 inches. Even the Armored Catfish, named for its armored plates, is tiny. Some, like the Corydobas genus, are popular as aquarium fish thanks to their bright colors. The Upside-Down Catfish swim inverted. The striking Glass Catfish has no skin pigment, making them completely see-through- all their organs are located just behind the head.

Unfortunately reality is less cool than myth. Not only are they too large (except when quite young) to do that, fluid physics doesn't allow it.

Though vagina owners should be a bit cautious, as apparently it can fit in there.

Weakness (Small Size)- At their natural size, these fish are vulnerable to large creatures- even without good accuracy. Anything of Size Rank -2 or more (human size and up) using a melee attack on these fish effectively strike with Burst Area Damage at their strength rank naturally.

-The Candiru, better known as THE ONE THAT SWIMS UP YOUR DICKHOLE, is a catfish relative that is actually supposed to swim into the gill-slits of larger fish, then preying on their blood from within. This ghoulish, vampiric trait is believed to be lured by the exhalation of water from the gill openings, which is why the animal may sometimes be tricked by a urinating large mammal, causing it to SWIM UP THE DICKHOLE. This is, as you might imagine, quite traumatic and painful for the victim, which JUST HAD SOMETHING SWIM UP ITS DICKHOLE. Though to be fair the only reported instance of this happening is in 1997, though give how it involved allegedly SURGICALLY REMOVING A FISH FROM SOMEONE'S DICKHOLE, it stuck in the memory. The only other recorded instance involves it actually swimming into a woman's vagina, which was a much easier fix (done without specialized tools).

-Candiru were infamous for SWIMMING UP DICKHOLES among South American tribes in the 1800s, though these may all be apocryphal legends that stuck in the memory of everyone who heard them. In fact, the myth involves the creature literally leaping out of the water to SWIM UP THE DICKHOLE of anyone peeing into the water, which is actually impossible due to the laws of physics, and was dismissed as such by the first people who heard the stories in the 1800s.

-Candirus grow up to 16 inches in length, but are usually considerably smaller (just small enough to SWIM UP YOUR DICKHOLE). Their transluscent skin makes them hard to spot in the water.

Tactics: Lurking at the bottom of the water, rising to drag things down and drown them.

-Catfish are voracious predators, and this one is no exception- the Wels is enormous (though no longer grows to 660-lb. weights, as it's been over-hunted at the biggest sizes), and will pull down just about anything they can catch. Tales abound of large Catfish dragging down HUMAN BEINGS, though most reports are unsubstantiated. They live across a huge range, going from Europe to the western edge of China. Larger Shark Catfish can reach this size as well.

-I made these guys PL 4-5 hunters- physically large and very durable, but not so much that human hunters can't get them.
