After the dialog with Aiden dies down each of you withdraw to your separate interests, while the patient returns to quiet rest.

Iona withdraws to the base' lab, kicks out the scientists working there, and locks herself in while she takes her first real look at what lies beneath her skin. What she sees in the mirror is surprisingly human, and yet alien. covering a white framework much like a skeleton are light gray fibers banded together into muscle-like clusters. At the joints they extend into black tendon-like motor enablers. Moved in and amongst the synthetic muscle are yellow-white conduits that seems to contain an energized fluid the way veins ferry blood. A lot of the more internal regions, where vulnerable organs would be, are covered by thin armoring which blocks off vision. Nestled in the eye sockets of her skull are two clear gelatinous ovals.

While the engineers didn't actually repair any of the damage done to Iona, they did clean and patch her up to the effect there is very little she feels she could safely remove. But she is able to collect her samples from the engineers that worked on her earlier. This includes some 'muscle fiber' and frame work fragments, as well as a ruptured segment of a power conduit. After hording away her samples and taking some pictures of herself, Iona calls for her First Generation escorts and later meets up with them. The trip to the Under City is an ordeal in her state, but her escorts keep her from harm.

About an hour after talking with Aiden Diego is approached by Tilly, and he receives an update from her. She informs him of the discovery of Romper's exodus from the Ward, as well as the vehicle's description and license plate number. It wasn't much, but it was something to go on. Something to track. Though you already know where the Jaguar controlled territory is. Before separating, the Corporal asks Diego for the location of the weapon cache he had been talking about in the debriefing and planning meeting earlier. She explains that she intends to send some people to check it out.

Diego

Wednesday morning Corporal Sander approaches Diego, in private with beat in hand. Three is a furrow to her brow as she begins tapping at the tablet.

"I heard back from the team sent to investigate that weapons cache you were interest in. It's clear out. Nothing left to salvage. But the team found a hidden camera and video footage to go with it. You should see this."

Turning the tablet around she hands it over to Diego. It begins with an external view of what amounts to a heavily fortified storage container. Two groups are fighting. One of them is wearing Stronghold's urban camo, and insignia. The other is a battered group of young people who look weary, are wearing street clothes, and wielding mostly improvised weapons. The fighting is brutal, but the Stronghold force is eventually overcome.

One of the youths, wearing a hocky mask and brandishing a pear of metal boomerangs, uses some electronic device to open to cache doors. As the group enters the view transitions into the interior where Diego is able to get a better look at the group and their faces. Two he recognizes as Ren and her twin sister Jun. Other than the person in the hocky mask, Ren, and Jun, there are three teenage girls, and a teenage boy.

The interior of the weapons cache has compartments containing six sets of gear. Not an extensive armory. What is there is impressive though. The group goes about collective automatic varies of mag-rifle, mag pistols, fully sealed hard suits with tactical helmets, exo-frames, and swords with armored cables extending to some kind of power pack. There are even more exotic pieces of equipment that Diego is not familiar with. As the group goes about stowing the equipment away in duffle bags Tilly speaks up.

"They're all First Generation. Can't tell who the person in the mask is, and we don't have anything on the twins. The boy is Jamie Kane. That's girlfriend Anika Montrose."

Tilly points to one of the girls, a dark red haired serious looking young woman who is moving away from the others the work at an case with a biohazard warning on it.

"That is Mel Sarah."

Moving her finger of the screen Sander indicates a girl with brown hair who had earlier danced around the battlefield battering her foes with what looked like a skillet and toaster, swung around by the cord.

"Those three were special forces trained and saw fighting during the war."

The Corporal points to the last of the girls. This one had been using a small caliber pistol during the fighting and now that the fighting was over, seemed to be organizing the others.

"This is Maryanne Fairweather. She was a functioning part of the Dreaming reeducation program. Social engineering to the scariest level. Here is where it get's weird. Watch Anika."

Stepping up alongside Diego, Tilly adjusts the magnification to zoom in more on the girl she mention, who had been off on her own while the others seemed to be debating something. In time she manages to open the biohazard case. Inside is a single cylinder with a vibrant red fluid that almost seemed to glow. On the interior lip of the case is a screen, which turns on displaying Dr. Sokolov's face. His mouth is moving, but the entire feed Diego has been watching is without audio.

After the video of Dr. Sokolov concludes, Anika looks over her shoulders at the rest of the group, which are arguing now. She then takes the container of red fluid, presses it against her next, and depresses a button on the side. The fluid drains into her ans as it enters her yellow-white veins of energetic light spreads out over her skin from the injection site. Her eyes go wide as the veins of energy reach er eyes, it fills them, pours out of them. Her moth opens and she screams, light pouring out of her. The others turn in shock. Jamie moves to run towards. As the illumination pouring from the girl increases the video turns to static.

After Iona's repairs, Dr. Sokolov is going to have her harvest more "material" from a prisoner for her future repairs. We do not need to play that out though.

Diego doesn't waste too much more time with Aiden aside from making a show of asking the doctors how much longer until Aiden can travel, will he be ok, etc. It was things a caring human being would mention for one whose life they had just saved from almost certain. If Aiden was going to be their supplier, Diego knew enough to put on the dog and pony show. Being able to control all his fine movements and tones helped in that regard.

Before Tilly's Video

There was times Diego thought Iona was making some progress like when she was assertive and kicked everyone out of the lab. It never carried over to missions, unfortunately, and her caring about others side came out. Normally, Diego would exploit the character weakness. In this case, it was jeopardizing missions and causing delays in other research for whatever she felt inclined to do. The whole thing reminded Diego of a hypocritical child. In the comfort of home, a terror. Out in the world, a picture of piety. Consistency, Diego could appreciate. Mood swings added unpredictability that made yet another variable in missions that had to be taken into account.

Out of the presence of Tilly and the arms dealer, Diego let his belt out a little. Holding his form together didn't suit him anymore and any chance he got to revert to his native self the better. News of the heart being evacuated via car to likely jaguar territory wasn't exactly surprising. It created complications, but nothing he couldn't deal with to make himself whole. If not for needing to manage the base, Jaguar territory wold be his first stop. As it was though, there was reports to review, meetings with the department heads on various matters, and security logs to review. Most of the department heads and base personnel had seem him in his proper form, but it didn't mean the meetings were any less discomforting having a floating mass of black nannities not giving nay sign people are used to picking up. they were professionals though, so did their job.

Lining up drug dealers for their operations was going to be a requirement. So, Diego left the base from time to time to start scouting candidates and locations while the others at the base laid low for the next few days. It wasn't as much as he would have liked, but it was something. An added bonus was avoiding too much more risk of exposure since some drug addict shaking between fixes fit right in to the environment. While on a few of his excursions, Diego briefly sent to various other wards for future plans of expansion for their drug area dropping subtle hints of value in information for future candidates of his network expanding out of ward 3. Unfortunately, time required the focus be on the drug distribution network.

Like an addict, Diego was twitching on the inside to barge into Jaguar territory and do some snooping for the heart. Part of him even hoped to see the car so he could follow it. For now though, he could sort of control it. How much longer was tough to tell. Every moment he was separated from the heart, his mind pulled him to thoughts of it. Soon, he had to keep telling himself, soon.

The Video

First Generation, he should have figured. That arsenal, if only they could have gotten it would have been an amazing cache. Not enough for an army, but still. When all they had was hand guns. To think Sokolov and his First Generation had the weapons now when Praetor Null had worked so hard to keep it from the doctors guard annoyed Diego greatly.

Watching over the video, Diego can't help but regret having that bridge burned after the whole Hitori eating incident. Those fighting skills would have come in handy. Praetor Null's force were better soldier like fighters, but a wilding type force to help out wouldn't have hurt. The armaments they had procured would have come in handy as well. Amongst them even looked to be one who was enhanced in a fashion that could have been another powerful ally when so many potential allies were being eliminated from even that possibility. It seemed the group was at war with nearly everyone or upon contact would start one.

"Good work on getting the video. It was my hope Aiden had the cache somewhere, but Dr. Sokolov and the First Generation seem to have gotten their hands on it already. Those mag rifles, ,ag pistols, and even exo frame would have been a great help to us.", remarks Diego ensuring his voice sounds human again. "Do we know what happen to the group or if they made any future appearances? So far, the First Generation seem to have kept their operations underground, but with even a small amount of weapons like these they would be troublesome if they made an appearance above ground.", adds Diego.

As he looks over the video, he takes in all the faces and names. The First Generation were not enemies proper yet, but teens being teens can't help themselves at times. if Iona was bad, these were proper teenagers despite whatever training they had received.

Iona
HP: 1
VP: 1
Cnd: -5 to Damage Checks; Exhausted
PP:0
EP:3
Dominion Point: 1

The past day or two -since her injuries - has been a period of difficulty. Though her body is a marvel of super-science, even ultra-tech machines have their limits. Damaged to the point where her own substructure has become visible, the young cyborg is forced to carefully cover herself for the journey to Doctor Sokolov's base.

After paying her traditional respects to her creator and master, she follow his gruesome instructions in order to aid him in her own resuscitation. Once again the cruel harvesting of flesh and other "resources" takes place. When her rehabilitation is complete, Iona requests a moment with the Good Doctor to inform him of the last missions results. She stands before him and nods (almost bowing) as she acknowledges just how dependant she still is on him for her continued existence.

"Our effort to acquire weapons for The Cause has brought to light some new information. This information, I believe, is related to the technology which you desire." Her soft voice pauses as she assembles her memories of the events and seeks to provide only the most pertinent of details.

"The Dark Ascendant, Warrant Officer Steiner, and I attempted to infiltrate a suspected Jaguar drug-facility in order to rescue a valuable contact. This contact is a weapons-dealer captured by the Jaguars for operating in Ward 3 without proper 'protection'. Our effort to infiltrate turned into combat in short order as we lost the element of surprise. I shall not bore you with the details of how I received all my damage. It will suffice to say that my wounds were acquired of several different incidents."

"Of particular interest was the use of some kind of psychological attack which apparently provoked hallucinations within our area of Ward 3. The hallucinations effectively neutralized Steiner, who contributed little to nothing towards the completion of our task. As The Dark Ascendant and I moved deeper into the base, even we fell victim to the powerful, psychic assault for a short time. Upon managing to break free of its power, I saw the Ascendant holding some kind of pulsating black heart with tenebrous tentacles emanating from it. He possessed it only for a moment before it was taken by some kind of 'Jaguar-Man' named Romper. This Romper then attacked us as he covered his escape. With the Jaguar-man gone we then were hard pressed to rescue the weapons dealer under the haze of a deadly gas."

The beautiful cyborg pauses to give her master time to process what she is saying before continuing. "We managed to save the weapons-dealer and procure the facility, which appears to be a damaged, Hadron-tech, manufacturing facility for construction materials. I have lobbied to both The Dark Ascendent and one of Null's liaison's, Corporal Tilly Sander, that the facility should go to you. In return for manufacturing drugs out of a portion of the facility, I have asked that the remainder of the industrial center be yours, should you desire it. If you do not want it, then I suppose Praetor Null will appoint someone to utilize it. I felt that it is only fair that the facility go to you in light of Null's acquisition of the Viridi Mater algae. I suppose the real negotiations will have to take place between you, my master, and Praetor Null himself."

Unsure as to how Dr. Sokolov would react to this last bit of information, she once again pauses.

Iona

As is often the case, a discussion with Dr. Sokolov takes place while the man is at work. Today he is dissecting a tumor riddled brain. THough he studies the brain matter, it appears that he is more interested in harvesting the tumors. Each one is carefully collected and placed in a specimen container.
Iona wrote:... some kind of 'Jaguar-Man' named Romper.
"Define "Jaguar-Man"."

... the doctor states without looking away from his. A brief interjection in Iona's dialog.
Iona wrote: I have lobbied to both The Dark Ascendent and one of Null's liaison's, Corporal Tilly Sander, that the facility should go to you. In return for manufacturing drugs out of a portion of the facility, I have asked that the remainder of the industrial center be yours ...

... I suppose the real negotiations will have to take place between you, my master, and Praetor Null himself.
Pausing in the dissection work Dr. Sokolov raises his hands and wiggles his fingers an unusual pattern. Then makes a few slow gestures in the air. He stares at a wall, as though peering through it to some far distant place.

"[color-blue]When Null gave your group the task of establishing an independent base, they were giving you permission to stake a claim on territory. Ward 3 is your's, in part, shared with your colleague Ascendant Gonzalez. What comes of the Ward is up to you. Null and I agreed on as much. Remember, the Ascendant needs your agreement on matters as much as you need their's. Stalemates help no one, but there are ways around that. Pick your battles and look for leverage and incentives to use against or to sway the Ascendant.[/color]"

"It is good that you are thinking of me. I know the facility you reference and would be interested in it. The Ascendant has convinced you to join in the poisoning of this city by joining the drug trade? For shame! You don't need to follow the footsteps of criminals, dragotsennyy . Hand the site over to me and I will deliver a regular donation to your coffers. Or if you prefer to maintain control of the site, and put in the effort to restore it, I would be willing to purchase all that you produce. "
OOC wrote:If you want, you may give Dr. Sokolov control the Hardon-tech construction material site in return for rent. Effectively you'd be trading the "special resource" for "wealth". The down side being that Dr. Sokolov is paying the upkeep for your army later on, he would gain a foothold in your territory, and you're giving him a means of mass-producing advanced technology. Though depending on the relationship, you want to foster with him, having Dr. Sovolov close could be a good thing and with him producing the construction materials, you may have a means of acquiring some from him if that is something you want for your HQ.

Alternatively you can setup the Hadron-tech construction material site and trade the "special resource" for "wealth". The downside here being that you would need to invest Dominion and go on a mission to acquire special equipment and personnel (people who know how to repair and maintain the facility) for the operation.
Iona wrote:The Dark Ascendant and I moved deeper into the base, even we fell victim to the powerful, psychic assault for a short time. Upon managing to break free of its power, I saw the Ascendant holding some kind of pulsating black heart with tenebrous tentacles emanating from it.
Turning his gaze back to the brain Dr. Sokolov carefully begins separating the blood vessels from the organ.

"Amidst psychic assault Ascendant Gonzolez found a black heart. Interesting. I expect he will want it. Dearly. If you are smart, you can use that to your advantage."

There is a brief pause before he goes on.

"The Jaguars have it now? That won't be good for anyone if they muck about with it. I expect the only person who can safely exploit it is Ascendant Gonzalez. Though allowing him to have the heart isn't necessarily desirable either."

Diego

Once Diego had finished reviewing the video footage Tilly withdraws the tablet. She pokes at it a bit then returns her attention to the creature that looked like a man standing in front of her. Th Corporal was quiet for a moment, having the look of something who was taking the time to choose their words before speaking.

"First Generation are hard to track and keep tabs on. With this group you're looking at some of their best. If they don't want to be found, we probably aren't going to find them. I'll have our people on the look out for leads if you want. What is the plan in the event we find something on them?"

Diego shakes his head. "No need. Our resources in setting up a new drug lab plus establishing a small army is already alot. Besides, the Undercity is no place for humans...", starts Diego before catching himself. With Tilly he tried to watch himself. "People to try and venture unless absolutely needed.", finishes Diego. He still recalled his near death and being lunch for some cannibals if not for Tilly's rescue. As best Diego could figure it, that feeling is one of the few if maybe the only one that remained from his previous life.

"The more information we have on others groups is generally preferred so if needed we can use it as a weapon or bargaining chip. Some information, like what happen with this group, is not as useful for now. If our agents find anymore information on the black heart and Romper please let me know though and keep the information limited to only those you trust and away from Iona. ", adds Diego. His need for knowing was only growing stronger trumped at this point only by his loyalty to Praetor Null and need for the black heart.

John Steiner
HP:4
Cnd: Mentally Impaired
PP:0

Once the debriefing ends, John feels it's his professional duty to give some kind of report to Ascendant Chen. Though Chen unnerves John due to his inhuman nature, the veteran soldier approaches him. Making an effort to speak with him in private, John secretly hints that he would like to meet in his quarters after the meeting. When the two are alone, John provides his own account of the happenings at the Jaguar lab.

"I should begin by saying that I fell under the same powerful psychic attack that many in the area experienced. I regret to admit that I was even more debilitated than The Dark Ascendant and Miss Iona. After helping to kill one of the jaguar guards at the entrance to the lab, I did not enter the tunnel due to my impaired mental condition. Honestly, it was almost certainly for the best as the interior defenses did extensive damage to Miss Iona, who is far tougher than me."

John pauses and appears visibly shaken as he recounts the nature of his hallucinations to the blurry, vibrating being in front of him. "The memories conjured before my mind were of fighting in the streets of Ward 3. Praetor Null's dark presence appeared and filled everyone with horror and dread. That...that is all I clearly recall. To be honest, I do not wish to remember any more. I have already suffered anxiety from the experience, an anxiety I cannot seem to shake. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with me?"

John gives Chen a moment to answer before proceeding with the remainder of his brief report. "As for what caused the psychic attack....I do not know. Perhaps it was the object, the 'black heart', that was mentioned in the meeting, but perhaps not. It may have been someone of something else. I can only apologize for my shortcomings on this mission, but I'm not sure how a man is supposed to resist such attacks on his own. If this power is due to an item, person, or technology possessed by the Jaguars, then it must be retrieved, destroyed, or countered in some way....the sooner the better. Attempting to field regular fighters against such a thing would be futile."

"Define "Jaguar-Man"."
Iona reflects back to the moment at the bottom of the vat. "He was standing above me on some scaffolding. He had the body of a muscular man, and was clothed like some kind of...'thug' for lack of a better word...in a tank top and jeans. But he wore some kind of ornamental body armor and had tattoos. From a distance, they appeared to be of Mesoamerican origin. As strange as that seems, it was due to his head that I labeled him a 'Jaguar-Man' for he literally possessed a head that looked like a Jaguar's...fur and everything." Iona looks down from Doctor Sokolov's face and shakes her head while sporting a puzzled look. "It is difficult for me to say whether this black heart was the source of the illusions or whether this Jaguar-Man caused it. Perhaps it was something else altogether. I can only speculate."

When Dr. Sokolov reveals his opinion about turning the manufacturing facility into a drug lab to fund the operations of The Cause, Iona is caught off guard by his reasonable (almost compassionate) response. "You...you are right, master." In her zeal to acquire funds, she had failed to carefully assess the impact on the poor inhabitants of Hadron CIty. That Sokolov had brought it to her attention both surprised and embarrassed her. "I...I shall convey your point of view to Ascendant Gonzalez. I do not think he will be moved by compassion, but the fighters in our army must come from the people of our city. To have them as addicts would almost certainly work counter to their effectiveness as soldiers."

When the conversation moves to the topic of the 'Black Heart' and its value to Diego, Iona's inquisitive nature gets the best of her. "What is this Black Heart, master? And why would Ascendant Diego covet it so badly as you believe?"

After listening to any explanation that Sokolov cares to give, the refurbished cyborg moves on to the final issue of her visit. "I shall be honest, master, I favor you taking control of the manufacturing facility. The advantages seem to outweigh the drawbacks in every way but one, namely that I must convince Ascendant Diego to agree. I'm afraid he is as apprehensive of you as I am of Praetor Null. But that is a problem for me to solve. I shall do my best. Is there any request you have of me before I return?" With her physical beauty now restored to her soothing voice, Iona feels her social confidence increase. Though her charms will not work on Diego, they could work on others with whom Diego must deal.

Iona wrote:"I labeled him a 'Jaguar-Man' for he literally possessed a head that looked like a Jaguar's...fur and everything."
The scientist gives a short shake of the head after Iona's description of Romper.

"Mutation, even engineered mutation, does not work like that. You don't get one piece of an animal and nothing more. Perhaps a well crafted mask. Early on we pursued bio-engineered equipment before focusing on inorganic branches due to organics being more suspectable to the Macrovirus. Living armor and weapons. Other equipment as well. Some becoming a part of a person or having a symbiotic relationship. The bulk were destroyed, but the Jaguars may have found some holdovers of this technology. "
Iona wrote:"What is this Black Heart, master? And why would Ascendant Diego covet it so badly as you believe?"
"As formidable as the Ascendants have demonstrated themselves to be, they are even more powerful. That potential is locked away. For good reason too. What if one went rogue or mad? What if one thought themselves Imperator's equal? Better that the power be portioned out and their loyalty assured before giving all. Now, as with all good locks, there is a key. Do you recall the day of Ascension? The storm? Master Zanzo and Ascendant Gonzalez retrieved an object and placed it in Ascendant Costa's eye socket. This was her key. I suspect the Heart is Ascendant Gonzolaz's. "
Iona wrote:"I shall be honest, master, I favor you taking control of the manufacturing facility. The advantages seem to outweigh the drawbacks in every way but one, namely that I must convince Ascendant Diego to agree.
When Iona stated that she favored his taking control of the manufacturing facility Dr. Sokolov gave her a small smile.

"As you should. Consider the Heart as potential leverage in your negotiations. The Ascendant will need your help if he hopes to confront the Jaguars. Should he somehow fail to acquire the Heart, even after you diligently seek to assist him in his quest, all the better. Better still if I attain it. If there are people whose counsel he trusts, you could influence him through them as well."

He paused in his dissection the brain in front of him to turn to Iona. Looking at her beautiful face he brought up a gloved have and, with one finder uncoiled by blood, grey matter, or tumorous residue, he neatly pushed s tray portion of the cyborg's hair behind one of her ear.

"You are a smart woman. I am sure that you can find a way to steer him along the correct course."
Iona wrote:"Is there any request you have of me before I return?"
The Doctor's grey eyes lingered briefly on Iona's, then he turned back to his work on the tumorous brain.

"Continue to look for ways to advance out position and keep the Praetor in check. They will allow their supporters to bring ruin to anything and everything in pursuit of their agenda. Working with Ascendant Gonzalez has surely shown you that."

Diego

The Corporal gave slight nods as she appeared to be making mental notes as Diego outlined his priorities for her.

"I'll have our people keep looking. Someone has to notice a guy with a jaguar head running around the city and if he's a big name in the criminal underworld, others have to have heard of him."

Towards the end of Diego comments Sander's lips pressed together as tension began to leak into her expression. She was quiet a moment and appeared to debate something internally before she spoke.

"About keeping things from Iona ... I'm supposed to be following her orders as well. Everyone on the base is. If there is something personally sensitive, like the Heart, I'm can keep that quiet. But operational information, such intel on some Jaguar thug that might be trying to kill us all, she needs to be informed. I hope you understand."

"Of course, if operational security is at risk or it is standard base business Iona should be fully informed. This is a jointly owned base with Iona as Sokolovs puppet. I suspect it is either conflicted or completely loyal to its master, so the less it knows about the heart or my network the better. While Sokolov and Praetor Null may be allies in the cause to free Hadron City, once we win the day it may be like Russia and America after World War II in terms of relations. If that is the result, Praetor Null should be the one in position of power. I expect this conversation to remain in our confidence.", says Diego in a more friendly type tone.

With the closing remarks Diego waited to see if Tilly had any more remarks before moving away and returning to his native form to resume the work of base operations and getting the drug lab ready. No doubt Sokolov was pulling Ionas strings. It was a matter of seeing how well the strings were attached. The black heart, the drug lab, and of course the new army were enough to occupy Diego for now. He would hold Iona and Sokolov at bay working with them as required by his master, but if he lost vigilance there would be negative outcomes.

Physically and mentally renewed, the young cyborg sets out on her journey back to base. There are so many thoughts coursing through her mind that even her keen intellect struggles to process them all. The balancing act between Praetor Null and Doctor Sokolov has many variables, not the least of which is the power of the Ascendants which all answer to Null. And while Iona realizes that Sokolov will always play second in power to Null, she is quite convinced that he must never play a far distant second. Questions concerning the preservation of this delicate balance of power consume her thoughts as she walks silently with her escorts through the confusing tunnels of the Undercity.

When she finally reaches the base, she has one of the security droids notify Diego that she has arrived. In addition to this notification she requests a meeting with him when it is convenient to him. In the meantime, she returns to the infirmary first to check on the recuperation of Aiden before retiring to her lab. Insuring that the door is secure, she proceeds to analyze some of the pictures of her damaged interior taken just prior to the recent journey to Sokolov. Eventually her powerful mind clears and she is able to focus on two concerns: 1) The chemical composition of her constituent parts, and 2) How she will convince Diego to grant Sokolov the newly procured facility. You must give Diego something he wants. But what do you have that he wants? Not much, if anything. The Black Heart is the key. Yes, the Black Heart.

Whilst going over some security logs and various movements in the Ward from his Forgotten network, Diego pays little visible mind to the droid. While Iona may find herself content to lock out the staff and completely neglect the base operations, Diego did not have that luxury. While Tilly handled most of the mundane matters, security and information was Diegos particular interest. He had little knowledge or desire for other base functions, but acted as administrator for the big things largely out of duty.

Once finished with base operation matters, Diego signaled for Iona to meet him in a conference room. Their scifs were limited. Wasting valuable space for whatever topic Iona wished to discuss made no sense. He made sure to arrive first and since TIlly was not present, felt no need to meet in a more human form. When dealing with iona, he even felt it best to be a dark nannite cloud instead of a face. That way no facial ticks could be conveyed.

Iona is finishing some spectroscopic analysis of her recovered interior-fragments when she gets word that Diego is free to speak with her. After storing away her research materials and locking them, she opens the lab back up to any medical staff who needs to utilize it. Donning a lab-coat and infirmary scrubs, the cyborg makes her way to the meeting room.

Once inside, she shuts the door and turns to see Diego's dark, vaporous mass. "Ascendant..." she nods. "...I have heard that you have been quite busy since I left for repairs. I hope that I too shall have time to inspect important projects before our next mission beckons us." Looking away from Diego's ominous form, Iona walks slowly away from him towards the opposite wall. "There are a few important matters that we should settle before proceeding with any future plans. I shall cut to the chase as I know that you have little tolerance for diplomatic niceties."

Turning back to face the Ascendant, she folds her arms across her chest. "I have an offer to make you. I hope you will hear me without interruption. First, I shall tell you what I want. It is my desire that the recently captured facility be given to Doctor Sokolov. He has offered to provide us with an income stream without the need to produce drugs and sell them. He feels - and I agree - that these narcotics will inevitably find their way into the hands of those people whom we wish to recruit into our forces. He has also promised to give us access to the cutting edge materials manufactured from the facility."

Taking a deep breath and pausing to allow Diego to process the initial pitch, she continues. "In return, I shall actively aid you in your pursuit to obtain the Black Heart. You do desire it greatly, do you not? It would be an insult to my intelligence to suggest otherwise. I'm sure that it comes as no surprise to you that Doctor Sokolov covets it as well. But I feel, however, that the facility is a substantial addition to his fief, more than enough to compensate him for not acquiring the Dark Heart. You have my word that I shall aid you to the best of my ability as long as it does not entail openly attacking Doctor Sokolov himself."

She stops speaking, her mouth open as if she can't decide on whether to continue or shut up. "I...well...that is my offer." she manages to clumsily say in her soft, harmonic voice.

While Diego longed for the heart and Iona had cards to play in that regard, like everything in life timing was everything. Initial covert searches had just began and for technological measures of containing the heart Iona would be of value she didn't bring anything more than her word to the table currently. Like any good poker player, Diego kept back his cards and only exposed what was needed. "Your programmer did not build in diplomacy into your code.", bluntly starts Diego in his normal tone of voice betraying nothing. His words were spoken so each was pronounced however. "You seem to misunderstand your and Sokolovs position. The true inheritor of Imperator, my master, and partial benefactor for this base maintains this city as its fief as you say. It gifted it graciously to us. To turn around and give a piece of it to a coward who abandoned the cause that likely only cares about drugs in peoples system effecting his experiments would be unspeakable.", continues Diego.

He paused for dramatic effect before continuing. "Your word means nothing to me. We only operate this base jointly because the one true inheritor of Hadron City deems it so. If you would like it bluntly, you are a wild card. Your compassion makes you weak. Our eventual army may do drugs and they may not, but as long as they are human meat shields who can carry out basic assignments I care little about them. Sokolov should consider himself fortunate to have the Undercity and First Generation at his disposal.", elaborates Diego.

"None of this should be new to you. I would dispels any illusions you have of making the funding of our eventual army subject to the whims of a mad egotistical scientist. If he would abandon the fight with Imperator in charge, his word has little credibility with me. You would be wise to not hold any illusions of him caring about people getting addicted to drugs as well. He may have programmed you with morals, but his are lacking. I have seen some of his labs.", continues Diego.

Turning to the counter, Diego maintains the exact pronunciation. "If you maintain your position of not helping to get the heart, it may well stay in Jaguars possession. If your worry is drugs effecting the city, what do you think the Jaguars possessing something your programmer covets will lead to? You have also seen enough of me to know what I do when there is obstacles in my way. While I am bound by my master to cooperate with you in this bases operations, ensuring your safety from me, do not mistake that for me sharing my aims with you outside of this bases operation. Also, if you programmer covets the heart, do you think my master would covet it any less?", finishes Diego. The last bit he realized probably tipped his hand a little, but he wasn't thinking perfectly clear either. One of the benefits of having a monotone voice and cloud based form was not betraying body language or vocal inflections.

Iona stands silently after getting it with both barrels from Diego. A lot is said, and the young cyborg is on the verge of throwing in the towel on negotiations. All she manages to mumble is an awkward "I...see." What follows is an even more awkward pause as she struggles with what to say next. Diego is not human- though he used to be - and she is not as confident at assessing his motivations and reactions as she would be with a human being.

"I must...admit...that some of your concerns regarding Doctor Sokolov are valid. I too am wary of a Doctor Sokolov who's power and influence are too great."

She pauses again unsure of where to take the conversation next. "Is there something else I could offer you as well? Something beyond mere words to sweeten the deal? If I knew of something which would serve as proper collateral, I might give it. But I am at a loss as to what might satisfy you. Does anything come to your mind?"

At this last question, she pauses again, giving the ominous cloud before her time to respond.
Here's Iona's Deception roll vs. Diego: Deception Roll vs. Diego: 1d20+8 23. So, a total of 23.
