Aiden Starr
HP: 3, Condition: Fine

Aiden just avoids rolling his eyes as Diego complains about his conversation with Anna. He would never understand the logic of what Aiden was trying to do. Diego was right, period. Whatever.

He turns his attention to the car and the race as he waits for the starting signal.

"Stay along the course, taking short cuts and be ready in case we need a distraction. Any items you were able to make or utilize in the vehicle should be at the ready.", says Diego over the comms to John. Over text, he conveys the gps coordinates in real time.

At the end of the day, Diego didn't care who took credit for preventing the Stronghold surge. Sokolov already had it prevented by having the target being his agent. Diego wasn't under any illusions of scoring brownie points with Null or Null's faction claiming credit in any reasonable fashion. It was now about information and connections. John was not that stupid as to not notice anything about Anna. If by virtue of being with her he could glean anything, it might be worth it all. Maybe.

Aiden is too busy talking to Diego to notice that the announcer has given the signal to start. The other cars explode ahead of him. When the youth looks ahead, waiting for the signal to be given to start, he realizes he his mistake and put his foot down on the gas. The laps in focus costs him at the start and he has to fight his way back for positioning to get ahead of the other cars.

Once the street party at the start of the race is behind you, Aiden has to deal with 'civilian' traffic as well. There are no signs of police, but the races route is by no means isolated from the rest of Las Vegas, or it's traffic network.

The Supra and Lancer are nimbly moving about the civilian cars while fighting each other for corners. Practically rubbing up against one another. The Demon moves in bursts, like a predator. Speeding ahead of the pack on straight away, making precise small turns to manuver around civilian vehicles. Then slowing down on sharp or longer turns in the route.

The EP9 is dominating the initial third of the race until it maneuvers into oncoming traffic, then turns to get back in line. But the steering is off. The turn becomes a spin and it slams into a honking SUV. Before a congested clog in the roadway and form Aiden and the other racers zip on through a hole in traffic and speed off.
OOC wrote:John is not going to be able to keep up, let alone get ahead of the racers. The Jeep isn't fast enough. He has 0 ranks in an applicable Vehicle Skill. Since Vehicles is Trained Only, that means he auto fails all related checks. He doesn't know Vegas enough to know about any short cuts.

Aiden wins the first opposed check. Go ahead and make your second Vehicles check.

Looking over the GPS coordinates on the map, Diego figures where best to drop the trap if need be factoring in as best as possible the pace of the race. "Ready yourself in case this goes south farther along the course. I will send you the coordinates and path to take.", says Diego. He conveyed the cross street plus a route to get there in relation to the race starting location. Some place closer to the end with what looks like some cover to wait as best he could tell. "It may be crowded or busy, so try to stay inconspicuous as long as possible.", says Diego.

Aiden Starr
HP: 3 (-1=2); Condition: Fine

Externally, Aiden is calm and completely focused. His movements are minimal and efficient. Every action a precise response. His muscles are the right level of tense to maintain perfect control of the vehicle. Nobody looking at him would ever think he has never driven it in a race before.

And then there is the smile. Subtle, and barely noticeable; the smile is the one thing that indicates Aiden isn't a robot behind the wheel.

A smile because inside his soul is singing. Behind the wheel is the happiest he has been in a while. The roar of the engine, the vibration of the road, the feeling of speed as he moves the Camaro around traffic and the other racers.

All of the stress, anxiety, and yes even fear from the last few days melt away as his mind calculates moves hundreds of yards ahead of his vehicle.

For all of Shrike's abilities, there is something elegant in the simplicity of this car. Frankly, he wouldn't trade it for any of the mods he is racing against. The drivers are skilled, no doubt. You would kill yourself is any Pro Mod if you didn't have some skills. But winning in the garage is different than winning on the street. Winning because you have the greater bankroll is just pathetic.

Flying Shrike is amazing, but here and now is where the true master is revealed.

Two vehicular duel take place on the streets of Las Vegas. One is between the Lancer and Supra jockey for position at third place. The other is between the Demon and Aiden's borrowed Camero fighting for first. Their duel takes them dancing around other car, tripping up civilians into acting as obstacles for their opponent. For a time the two drivers are nearly even, with the Demon excelling at straight aways while Aiden makes up ground on the turns. But then the CVI seamlessly takes over. It isn't instinct, trained knowledge, or muscle memory. The machine temporarily overcomes Aiden's human limitations and enables him to surpass them. His movement become machine-precise. He begins preempting events before they occur with a near precognitive clarity of analytical action as the CVI calculates trajectories, angles, velocity, and vehicular schematics in an instant then processes response into physical action that Aiden undertakes.

Outwardly Aiden is 'in the zone'. Soon the other comediators are specks in the rearview mirror. What happens with them, you do not know. But the Camero is the first to cross the finish like. There are cheers from the crowd. Some girls take their shirts off and flash you at the finish line, perhaps trying to distract you and cause a scene at the last second. Other people crowd around the Camero once you finally stop. A couple minutes afterwards the Demon pulls in at second place. The other three cars never cross the finish line.

As the race progressed, Diego directed John as needed just in case Aiden failed. When a contingency didn't need to be used, it was all the better. Aiden, despite his issues with giving away too much, was a useful asset to have around for transport. Over time, Aiden may even be swayed away from Sokolov if he doesn't succumb to paranoia first. Diego was already plotting how to convert Aiden. After getting the heart that belonged to him back, however.

When the women exposed themselves, Diego feigned a look of excitement that would be expected of such a display. He had to keep up appearances. "Lets get the item we came here for and finish this mission. It has gone on too long.", says Diego to Aiden before others get within earshot. "Meet us back here John. We will finish this now and you will get to hook up with the woman.", adds Diego talking to John.

In teh car, Diego waits for what happens next and any signs of who has the prize.

John takes the Jeep and backtracks to a point closer to the end of the course. From there he has two things in mind: Either pulling out in front of the opposing lead-driver or setting off a small IED near the road in order to provoke a wreck. When the soldier gets word from The Dark Ascendant that Aiden is winning the race, John is relieved. Interfering with the race would lead to other potential problems (and his team already has enough problems). John responds to The Dark Ascendant’s command with a simple, “Yes, sir.

He takes the Jeep back to the starting point of the race and parks it. Making sure the tinted windows are up and all loose items are stashed away, he locks the care and walks back into the nearby crowd to get as good a view of the finish-line that he can.

Aiden Starr
HP: 2, Condition: Fine

Aiden takes several moments to fully come back to his senses. When the CVI kicked in, it felt like Shrike was there in the car with him.

"Yeah... the crystal."

He looks around for several moments. He doesn't know any more about this race than Diego does. Who is supposed to deliver the prize? Where do they go to get it?

Anna didn't tell him much, likely because she is pissed at him. She said she wants the car back. She didn't tell him where to leave it, so he is not sure what he is supposed to do with it. And if I make it too obvious, Diego might choose to stay around and wait for her. He is already in enough hot water on this mission.

Aiden and Diego

There is a lot of excitement as Aiden and Diego exit the Camero. There's cheering and shouting from the crowd, which is converging on you. A random girl grabs hold of Aiden and pulls him into a kiss. Or tries to anyway. Eventually the purple pants wearing announcer gets over to you and calms the crowd enough to make the official announcement of your winning the race. He gives a brief spiel about the race, then the partying kicks off again with music blaring.

It is at that point that he takes Aiden aside, escorting him to a quieter corner of the street party where a strikingly white skinned man with vibrant red hair stands chatting with a tall androgenous person with short yet stylish dark green hair and clad in dark green leather pants and a short cut matching jacket. This is Aiden's first time encountering the pair, but Diego recognized the Iresh smuggler and his bodyguard of ambiguous gender.

The conversation between the pair dies down and the bodyguard steps forward to stop the three of you from advancing too close. It is at that point that the race announcer introduced to other man as 'Dutch'. Dutch speaks up after that, his voice carrying an accent, though not so thick as to make it difficult to understand.

"Congratulations. You have some serious skill. You wouldn't happen to be looking for employment, would you?"

John

"Wooo!"

A feminine voice exclaimed beside John as the cherry red Camero crossed the finish. She jumped up and pumped her fist into the air, excited as much of the rest of the party going crowd. It wasn't until he looked directly at her that John recognized Anna Semenov. The woman had snuck up on him after he exited the Jeep and blended into the crowd. She smiled slyly at him, one hand behind her back in an almost demure fashion.

"Hey. Want to get out of here?"

Aiden instinctively blocks the woman trying to kiss him. He tries to smile it off. "Sorry, I'm taken."

It feels good being cheered though. Compliments aren't the norm, being celebrated is never a thing.

Being used to ruin a rival's mission is a new low.

"Thanks man. I have a full-time gig, but nothing wrong with doing a side gig now and then."

"Hey. Want to get out of here?"

John runs to see Anna beside him. Taken by surprise, he doesn't answer immediately, but stares for a moment unsure if his eyes are deceiving him.

"Well hello, Ms. Semenov." a smile forms irresistibly on his face. John glances around for signs of his teammates, but the spectators as well as the crowd of fans around Aiden's car make it difficult to see.

"Hmmm, do I have any pressing business this evening?" he says in a clearly joking tone, looking back to the lovely redhead in front of him. "I suppose I could make a special case for you and clear my calendar. Where would you like to go this evening?"

Diego was starting to piece things together or so he thought. Dutch had something Sokolov wanted wand Aiden was going to be the courier now, not Anna assuming she could win the race. Looking at Aiden, Diego tried to reinforce what he thought was the idea. "Yeah man, a little extra money never hurt anyone.", chimes in Diego. He hoped the crystal would be a package to deliver. The sooner he was back in Hadron City, the better. he had to scope out the Jaguars and where they might be hiding HIS heart.

Aiden and Diego

One red eyebrow rose in response to Aiden's comment about having a job, but being open to something on the side. That didn't seem to be what he was supposed to say.

"Well, you won the race, so you got the job. Call it a side gig if you want."

Without taking his eyes off of Diego and Aiden he opens his jacket with one hand while reaching inside with the open. Extracting a thin gun metal gray case, then a pen and note pad, he uses the case as bracing for the paper as he scribbles something down. A moment later he tears the paper form the pad, pins it to the case with his thumb and offers it to his bodyguard, who in turn offers it to Aiden.

"Package and directions. You'll get payment on delivery."

John

"Good answer."

She almost purred the words when John opted leave with Anna. She sets up alongside him and hooks her arm around his, then guides him to the Camero that Aiden had drove the race in. With her free hand she pulls out a set of keys unlocks the doors with the press of a button on a key fob.

"I was thinking dancing and some drinks ... followed by someplace quiet, where I can get you alone for awhile."

Once at the car Anna slips away from John and slides smoothly into the driver's seat.

Diego picked up on Dutches body language and figured he jump in. Aiden would see the note and do whatever the instructions said. He no longer cared. Sokolov and Null would have their words. It was made clear he was to work with the traitor, so all he could do was make his reports. "Money is money and a job is a job. We are always glad to get paid for stuff like. Gotta have money to pay for the honeys, especially in these times with all these creatures running around.", remarks Diego.

He looked over to Aiden for the next move. Anna should hopefully make contact and Diego can report some success even if given as a token to placate him. For the delivery, Aiden was capable of transport. No need to tag along.
