'Wow, it sure is busy on the docks tonight!' Exemplar muttered to herself as her ESP scanned over all of the different things that were happening in her general vicinity.

'But they really do not want that falling on them...' She shifted the focus of her psionic powers from ESP to teleportation, focussing on the area where she had seen the container being unloaded. And with a flick of psionic energy she disappeared from the rooftop to appear a little way from where the unloading was taking place.

"Stop!" she shouted, stepping forward. "Wait! Your chain is warped!"

Exemplar reappears not too far from the unloading area, just in time to see a red container finish getting hitched. A middle aged black man swears at her sudden appearance, clenching his cup and spraying coffee all over himself. "Christ-! What the- Chain? I- Hey, wait a minute, you can't be back here lady. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave before you get hurt."

Her attempt at warning the crew about the faulty equipment however, seems to have come too late. Shouting comes from the central area and the woman turns just in time to see the container snap out of it's bindings crashing into a stack below. The dust comes to settle, but luckily it seems nobody was injured in the accident itself. Before The heroine has a chance to move in and lend assistance, she's stopped by a hand on her shoulder. "Wait, just who the hell are you? Did you have something do do with that just now?! Because if you were, I swear I'll sue your-"

Whatever impulsive threats were cut off in a sudden flash of light and heat, cries of anguish and fear replacing the angered shouting just moments before. Before her eyes, Exemplar sees the cargo bay area aflame as men and woman struggle to get out of danger. The cause of the explosion as seen from here, is entirely unknown.

Operative & Warlock
While the young mystic had focused himself on looking for any other mysterious callsigns or hints of the arcane, a hero his polar opposite carefully watched him from the shadows. She ghosted behind him in every sense of the word, carefully making sure this wasn't some threat left behind by Jack or someone of his ilk. It comes to be quickly apparent though, that this was probably just a civilian coming to look at the interesting street-art that covered this area of the harbor.

Before either had a chance to properly introduce, an explosion rings out as a portion of the docks go up in flames.

Octogirl and Rainbow Star
People in the chat seem enthused by the idea of meeting another hero, a couple seemingly recognizing her by her distinctive armor. More then a few seem to find the curves of her suit particularly appealing, making a few comments that are thankfully censored by her moderation team. As the two heroes are flying though, fire blooms up ahead followed shortly thereafter by the booming shockwave.

Hellcat:
It was during the process of placing cuffs on the criminal that things went sideways in a way she couldn't have predicted. There was the sound of crashing before columns of containers fell down around the both of them. Startled by the chaos the man suddenly bolted away, hands locked behind his back as he made a mad scramble to the left. Just as her feet were catching up with her brain, fire exploded around her forcing her to take cover. By the time she was able to look up again, the direction the man fled was covered in burning scrap.

As the two heroes are flying though, fire blooms up ahead followed shortly thereafter by the booming shockwave.

Just as RS was considering questions for an impromptu interview with the flying heroine based on the chat's interest, the night lit up with an intense red glow of fire followed by the strong base of a book intense enough to cause a wave of force that could be felt.

"Oh wow! That was a big boom. Hey, wanna go check it out?" she asks Octogirl, though without waiting for a verbal reply, the colorful heroine steps on the gas and speeds off towards the commotion to see how she could help as her chat cheers her on, excited for the possibility of seeing her in action.

"Do I ever! Let's go!" Octogirl speeds off toward the commotion.

Hellcat

"Trust me, you're better off- that purse did NOT go with your shoes," Parker said pleasantly as she tended to the apprehension. It was part of the business, but it wasn't the FUN part.

Then things kind of, well, blew up...

With her powers set the way the had been, her reflexes were only sort-of superhuman- but that was more than enough to make sure she wasn't hurt. She rolled out of the way and came to rush in the classic "power landing" pose. She shook her head, shaking off the aftereffects of the blast- at least that was how it looked if anyone was watching...

Kendall tended to play the game without a lot of the incidental windows and visual cues that the VR system provided- she preferred to experience the VR gameworld the way her character would. But when something like THIS happened, you had to check a few things. Her eyes flicked downwards, towards the bottom of her visual range- a formerly-minimized status bar sprang up, still small and at the edge of sight, but present now. Indicators all green- she hadn't been hurt or anything. Dinged a few XP for letting the purse snatcher get away, but she had gotten credit for the grab- and she had the purse. A new Quest tab too... Sweet.

She made another tiny gesture, pulled up a different toolbar, moved a few widgets- and marveled, for just a moment, as time slid to a crawl around her. Flecks of falling debris, flickers of flame, were essentially stationary now.

She made one quick pass through the immediate area, checking to make sure that her crook had made good his escape and wasn't trapped under the wreckage. Then off to hang the purse back across the shoulders of its owner- she would notice it soon enough.

Then off through the cluttered shipping area towards the center of the devastation. Over there- it looked like a cluster of people- dock workers mostly, no status tags of note.

She was there, NOW. To them, her appearance was as sudden as teleportation.

"Whoa!," she exhaled, taking a closer look.

"I'm Exemplar, a new superhero!" she tells the man. She smiled internally at both the corniness of that statement, and how much it fit in with how she saw Exemplar and her place in the game world. "I sensed the weakness of the chain from elsewhere and came to warn you. Unfortunately I seem to be too late. Now, let me help..."

She raises a hand and concentrates. A second later, a crystalline wave of psychokinetic force expands out from her body towards the site of the explosion, as she attempts to pick up all of the workers in the area and lift them up through the air to safety behind her.

Power Stunt on her Psionic Powers array:

With her ability to Detect Minds hopefully she can find, pick up and rescue everyone around the explosion, even if they are out of line of sight of her eyes...

The Operative breifly appears in the air around the 'civilian' "You should get home; this is not a safe place, dear." she says, a bit of Maggie making it past her filter and broadcasting over the synthesized voice of the Operative.

She then disappears to teleport closer to the scene of the fire. She dials the emergency line to report this whole thing as she looks for ways to be of use. Spying big burning piles of wreckage she'll get closer in order to first scan to make sure no one was trapped under the rubble, if not, then to project a hardlight shell precisely over the largest set of things that are burning so as to smother the fire (assuming it can't burn through her construct).

Sam/Martin startled at the sound of the explosion in the near-distance. The sound was not unknown to Martin, having gotten into several scraps as a Wizard of the Arcane Order where rather unfriendly folks thought it best to utilize magical explosives... and to be perfectly honest, Sam wasn't a fan of being subjected to them either.

But even so, he hadn't expected the docks to go up in flames while he was out looking for clues that might lead him to a sea-froth-creature... or a Viking.

Then again, who was to say that a Viking hadn't just blown up the docks?

Martin hadn't had long to ponder the thought before something just appeared in his peripheral, causing him to nearly leap out of his skin, biting back an oath as he whirled and gestured with a sign of forbiddance, and readied himself to call up his magical powers when the woman clad in the tech-suit spoke... and then seemed to vanish again.

"Huh," Martin muttered. "Was I being stalked by another Player just now?" Sam reckoned whoever that woman was had no idea Martin was a Player... Secret Identity rules, it looked like. Interesting -- Sam knew there were exceptions to it, but it seemed like the technology-vs-magic divide meant he wasn't so easily noticed as a Player if he wasn't going around doing actual magic...

After a moment's thought, Martin shook his head. "Get your head on straight, there's trouble afoot!" he told himself, quickly ducking out of sight. Tapping the brooch pinned to his scarf and chest, Martin triggered the transformation of his attire into the garb of the Wandering Warlock (which was really just a macro-function for changing non-unique outfits when a character is appropriately unperceived, often used for wardrobe changes and for swapping between Hero and Secret Identities... the "spell" involved was just graphical fluff because Martin was a mage-character). Moments later, the Warlock was rushing towards where he had heard the explosion come from -- an obvious plot-hook couldn't be so easily ignored!

There's a strange haze emanating form the main areas of fire as men and woman struggle to get way from the flames. Exemplar and the Operative aren't ones to waste any time on the matter, the psionic throwing out a burst of telekinetic energy to remove those she can get to out of danger. In the central area of the fires there seem to be about five people she can't easily get too, blocked under a mass of burning debris. Worryingly, there seem to be two people struggling in the water having got knocked in by the initial blast.

With her advanced sensory array the Operative is able to see the people currently trapped, while at the same time nothing which fires were safe to start snuffing out. Yellow light projects out from her device over the largest of these areas helping to limit the amount of smoke swallowing the area. For Maggie it feels like something of a surprise that the opaque constructions are able to do this, she hadn't been aware that they were air-tight.

While two heroes are already working to get a handle of the situation, four more appear to lend assistance to the small-scale disaster taking form. Hellcat, after a moment's thought, realizes she didn't find where that mugger had run off too during that initial crash. It'd be her only conclusion that the man has swapped roles, becoming a victim of the situation himself. He must still be trapped in that area.

GM: Rescue time! There are a number of people still in danger of the disaster even after Exemplar's hasty maneuver. We'll consider this as if in combat; One move and a standard each of you.

Hellcat
HP: 1; LP: 1; Condition: Normal

Down at the furthest limit of her vision, a flashing red dot indicated an unresolved task- maybe the mugger HADN'T made it clear, whichmeant she was still responsible for him. And either way, there were other civilians in danger- and saving people was way better than beating up bad guys. Even so, she had hesitated for a moment while two "more experienced" heroes made some quick life-saving moves.

No sense letting them save everybody, not when she still needed to claim a place in the local super-scene. Again, her right hand flickered through an incredibly quick series of gestures.

"Okay, I'm on it." There was a hiss, almost like static, and a shimmering doppler blur- and she was back where she had started. The only difference was that there were a lot less people in danger.

Sure it was too fast too see- but the Studio would slow it down and clean it up for anyone who wanted to watch it- that was one of the reasons she had sold any streaming rights back to the studio, one less detail to worry about.

Not sure exactly which power-set to use; certainly Quickness for area search for endangered civilian types (using her search bonus, since civilians are bigger than clues). Depending on her Quickness, she can spend an effective 30 minutes (or 4 hours) for her search as a Free action (1 second)

-But the rescuing part is the question: Can she do that as a "Routine" action? If so, she will use full Quickness and do that. If it cannot be accomplished as a Routine action (thus Quickness does not apply) she will use her Burst Area 2 Selective for normal STR 2. In this case, her Quickness drops to 10.

Quicker than anyone could blink or even comprehend what they're really seeing Hellcat bursts onto the scene. In some far-flung server bank on the Other World machines hum as her time dilation abilities kick in, allowing her to see the virtual world as only a Shard could see it. Incredibly even at these 'speed' the world moves just fluidly as if in real-time, not a hint of artifacting or clipping to be seen.

While there wasn't much she was able to do for those trapped under heavier piles of metal or burning wood, that didn't mean there was nobody around to save. Her first stop is the most mentally pressing, where she finds the mugger pushed against a shipping container by some large red scrap. With the Strange Physics of this state, it gives way under some effort. His arms don't look right, but there luckily wasn't any large wounds.

When the man was safely deposited away from the main blast zone, Hellcat makes a quick stop to nudge two men out of the way of a deadly onslaught of metallic dominos. It seems the entire structure of the shipping area had been destabilized, turning the entire maze into a deadly death trap.

On her fourth pass of the area she spots the arm of a woman extend out of the water, a closer examination revealing her struggle. For someone moving as fast as Hellcat, things like 'surface tension are stretched to their absolute limits as she leaps onto the bay with barely a ripple. With a quick tug, it's more like pulling someone out of clay than regular water.

When normal time readers itself, the people she's saved can scarcely believe their circumstances.

[[Okay, what's big and heavy and in the way...] The HUD highlights a few large metal plates that have trapped a few civilians.]

Octogirl grabs some metal plates. She can see they have someone pinned. "Hi, Honey, I hope you're okay under there. Let me just get rid of this." She stands with the person under her and lifts the plate away from their body before picking it up into the air and flying it a few hundred yards away before putting it back down.

In a time if crisis like this, there was never a shortage of people capable of heavy lifting. A grateful expression greets her as the metalic scrap is lifted into the air, the man who was trapped below covered in scrapes. "Th-thank you..." He coughs out, just before the speedy form of Hellcat whizzes by to drag him away from the danger zone.

RAINBOW STAR

RS activates her aura effect, glowing with scintillating lights. Though the aura isn't bright enough to cause visual distress, it does make her far more visible for anyone to call out for help if they see her. She notices several people being hoisted up into the air by unseen forces, and reasons another hero must be in the area, already helping. But in events like these, there are always some folks trapped so powers like this don't complete the event too easily.

Looking back for her team up heroine, she considers. "It looks like we're not the first people here and they've already taken care of a lot of the civilians. We should look for anyone who is trapped and help them! I can heal the injured, but I might need some help freeing them if they are trapped under something."

With Octogirl charging off, RS follows, grateful to find out her team-up has super strength, though is shocked when the civilian she'd been about to assist gets whisked away before she can even get a word in edgewise on the matter. "Okay, seems like evacuation is well covered! I'm going to move to where everyone is gathered and offer healing services!" she updates Octogirl before taking back to altitude to find where the civilians were being evacuated to and relocating herself there like a rainbow comet, landing surprizingly lightly when she arrives.

Using her minor holographic light effects, she crates a glowing rotating red cross symbol over herself to be readily spotted. "Rainbow Star is here to help! Anyone needing first aid come see me, or if you can't please call out and I'll come to you! Please, serious injuries first!"

Not too much to do until RS can assess who need healing, but in the meantime, using her Standard to activate Rainbow Show's environment effect, Move to get into her final position after a detour. A few free actions to speak, change her Energy Emission to Rainbow Healing and use her Rainbow Show Feature for the red cross effect to 'tag' herself as medical services.

The pop star heroine gets into action, her audience silently cheering her on the best they can in the background. In high stress situations like this it was better to leave the chat on mute. Most of her audience took it in stride, but a number who liked to 'Back-seat hero' vocally disagreed. Haters were always going to hate, just as much a fact now as it was forty years ago.

"Over here!" A man yells out, gathering Rainbow Star's attention. He's leaning next to another man laid out on his back, their head bloodied with shards of glass. "My brother, he's not breathing! We were just standing there and then these- these bottles just came flying right at us!"

A few other people nearby nurse similar gashes and scrapes, though none as bad as the first. Most of them are coughing up smoke, and someone's performing CPR on a woman drenched in water. Chances were, the worst injurred were still buried under the wreckage.
