Normal Version:
PL 0
STRENGTH -5 STAMINA -5 AGILITY -2
FIGHTING -2 DEXTERITY 0
INTELLIGENCE -4 AWARENESS 0 PRESENCE -3

Skills:
Athletics 10 (+5)
Expertise (Survival) 5 (+5)
Perception 5 (+5)

Advantages:
Close Attack 2, Fast Grab, Improved Hold, Improved Initiative

Powers:
"Animal Senses" Senses 2 (Low-Light Vision & Extended Scent) [2]
Movement 1 (Slithering) [2]

"Fun Size" Shrinking 12 (Feats: Innate) (Extras: Permanent +0) -- (6 inches) [25]
(-3 Strength, +6 Defenses, +12 Stealth, -6 Intimidation, -1 Speed)

Offense:
Unarmed +0 (-5 Damage, DC 10)
Initiative +2

Defenses:
Dodge +4 (DC 14), Parry +4 (DC 14), Toughness -5, Fortitude +0, Will +0

Complications:
Disabled (Animal)- Snakes cannot speak to humans, and lack the limbs to easily manipulate objects.
Disabled (Blind)- Blind Snakes have underdeveloped eyes usually placed under scales, as they live underground lifestyles and don't need them.
Disabled (Cold-Blooded)- Snakes require warm temperatures to heat up and move about- they are fatally-vulnerable to cold.
Weakness (Small Size)- At their natural size, small Snakes are vulnerable to large creatures- even without good accuracy. Anything of Size Rank -2 or more (human size and up) using a melee attack on a Lizard of this scale effectively strike with Burst Area Damage at their strength rank naturally.

Total: Abilities: -36 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 32 / Defenses: 4 (15)

Era: Modern Day
Range: All across the world (except Antarctica).
Stereotypes: Unknown.
Colouring: Any Possible Colour, in any possibly design.
Size: Up to 18 inches long (less than 50g)
Diet: Earthworms, pupae, eggs of insects.
Tactics: Burrow slowly.

-The strange Blind Snakes often possess blunted snouts and miniscule size, and are named for being nearly eyeless- they have tiny, poorly-developed eyes with scales growing over them. They are, like most blind animals, dedicated to a lightless lifestyle, these ones burrowing underground and eating worms and even the larvae & eggs of insects. Some have no teeth, while others have only a single tooth. Even by the standards of tiny snakes, they are harmless, frequently being less than a foot long and earthworm-skinny. There are literally hundreds of these things (many are called Worm Snakes), which is crazy for something so obscure. Nature is weird. But hey- it's a great ecological niche- not a lot underground and food is plentiful; there is no lack of birds.

Size: Up to 18 inches long (minicule ounces to 50g)
Diet: Earthworms, snails, frogs, tadpoles.
Tactics: Flee rapidly, or attempt to swallow whole.

-The tiniest of snakes are generally harmless, and mostly eat earthworms and the like- easily-captured prey that can't fight back. Most are so lightweight they couldn't conceivably tackle anything like a dog or cat, much less a human.

-Confusingly making up one part of the huge family "Colubridae" (which includes Vine Snakes, Reed Snakes and others), is Colubrinae. There are 717 species spread across 92 genera, making it the second largest subfamily after the Dipsadinae I covered. This group includes a great deal of famous members, however. The Vine Snakes & Rat Snakes I got to already. The remainder include Reed Snakes (a family of around 100 scrawny burrowing snakes), Green Snakes, Glossy Snakes, Scarlet Snakes, Smooth Snakes, Egg-Eating Snakes, Hooked-Nosed Snakes, Wolf Snakes, Forest Racers, and the Black Racer (one of the few animals to share a name with comic book characters from Marvel AND DC).

-Typical of tiny Snakes, these are weak PL 0 animals.

The group includes Cat Snakes (voracious predators, usually eating eggs) & Lyre Snakes. The colorful Parrot Snakes of South America are in the "mildly venomous" category as well.

-The "Natricinae" family is extremely vast and covers most of the globe, starting in the Old World but having the greatest diversity in the New World, where they thrived. Much of the group are known as "Keelbacks" for their keel-shaped scales, and most are quite small. This is the group Garter Snakes come from, as well as the European Grass Snake.

-These snakes are harmless to humans, but quite large (around 8 feet long in some cases). Rat Snakes are usually small, but the Gray Ratsnake is up to eight feet long! They also include the Coachwhips, also known as Whipsnakes, and a few species of Indigo Snakes, Gopher Snakes (which imitate Rattlesnakes) and the two Brown Snakes. The Aesculapian Snake is important to European culture- though non-venomous, it is the distinctive serpent used for the Rod of Aesclepius, Greek God of Healing & Medicine, so its image sits on ambulances to this day.

-This is kind of a general build for larger varieties of some snakes. They still aren't powerful enough to be a danger to humans because they're so skinny, but they're stronger predators than say, Garter Snakes.

Re: Jab's Animal Builds (Komodo Dragon! Megalania! Garter Snakes!)

Post by Jabroniville »

So here you can see a lot of the issues with these snakes, as the build is somewhat universal and minor-league, differing mostly in specific sizes and venoms. I'll post these 2 a day for the most part since numerous snakes DO make for identical builds, even if distantly related or in a different family entirely.

-Wart Snakes are a species of semi-large, primitive constrictors who live in East Asia & Australia- they're named for the protrusions of their scales, but are most distinctive for their extra-large, baggy skin that often hangs off the creatures. Many cannot leave the water at all without dying- they will begin to lose the ability to breathe or just be crushed by the difference in pressure. They are quite Endangered owing to using their skins for leather. There are only three species, most of which are 8 feet long- the Elephant Trunk Snake is the biggest, as you might imagine.

-Iconic for their bright green colors and extremely elongated pupils, Vine Snakes are mildly-venomous, arboreal predators from Asia. Their paralytic venom really only affects fish and the like, but it's good enough for their needs. I threw on Arboreal and a Paralyzing Affliction for these guys.

-The "King" in Kingsnakes applies to their ability at killing and eating their fellow snakes, something enhanced by the fact that they are famously immune to snake venom! Some Kingsnakes have extreme force for their relatively small size- possibly an adaptation to reptilian prey, as reptiles can have far lower oxygen levels in their blood before dying. Most Kingsnakes have extremely bright colors, making them among the most popular pets.

-Small Kingsnakes aren't that mighty compared to larger animals, but are quite potent against snakes- things like Rattlesnakes aren't much good at things they can't poison, and these things are adept at biting around the head anyways.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of snake I very nearly stepped on in the Mississippi Palisades when I was 12ish. Other times I'm just glad Mom and I noticed the black shape moving before my foot came down.

when i was a kid in Florida barely 5ish or so there was an old shed falling apart in the backyard/ i went in silly me and found myself face to face with a Copperhead who was NOT happy to see me

fortunately old Red dog came running in full tilt and planted both paws on a section of metal siding i was standing on. the sudden shift cause me to lose my balance and go ass over teakettle onto my ass but it also hit another piece of siding and they guiliotined the snake before it could bite me.

Good red doggo
