Freyr

Way too many of this guy's pics look like "Just Some Guy".

Complications:
Responsibility (Pantheons of Light)- Freyr is an ally of the Pantheons of Light, and fears a great enemy is coming for them all.
Responsibility (Peace)- Freyr chooses negotiations above all things- unusual for a Norse God.

Total: Abilities: 126 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 18 / Powers: 102 / Defenses: 19 (265)

-The son of Njord, Freyr is a peace-loving God of Light who talks to the other Pantheons of Light and wants to create a Godly coalition against whatever dark forces are gathering. Odin has refuted this, feeling that only the Norse Gods are involved in Ragnarok- only Balder takes Freyr's side. There's an interesting aspect here about how Freyr prefers negotiations and peace, but none of the gods doubt his bravery either. The art is just... of some normal guy.

Total: Abilities: 124 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 14 / Powers: 155 / Defenses: 12 (305)

-Freya, like most Love Goddesses, is given a lusty, bed-hopping personality in both mythology and in this book, but it explains here she's more forthright and blunt than most, refusing to flirt and instead being like "Hey, wanna bang?" and moving on without jealousy if rejected. Given that the actual myth I've heard is letting the Dwarves sleep with her to get her magical necklace that makes some sense. HOWEVER, Carella tosses in a big story hook right here- Freya had in fact hooked up with ZEUS for a time... and a jealous Hera kidnapped her and force-fed her a concoction that made her literally terrified of men. And the unfortunate goddess is currently hidden away (the Norse Gods have no idea where she is), so mortified and revolted by her past hook-ups with men that she's catatonic and contemplating suicide! This incredibly-dark story could potentially lead to a war between the pantheons if it's found out. It's said she'll be back to normal in a few years, but still- YIKES.

-Like many goddesses, she's a wimp, but has enough durability to last a while in combat. But still, only +9 damage unarmed is PATHETIC for the divine beings in this book.

Boy, that Hera, I gotta give her props. She's good at making bitches suffer in creative ways. Do not mess with a man wearing her brand!!! As for getting banged by some dwarves for a necklace...yuck. No...just...no. That necklace would have to both let me take Odin's place as head of the pantheon and single handedly stop Ragnarok in its tracks. Still, Aphrodite gets the win for head tramp. That chick just couldn't be stopped. Although, Ishtar gets bonus points for banging as many dudes as she wanted and then beating the living hell out of them afterwards if she felt like it. The other two couldn't pull that off!

Yggdrasil

Post by Jabroniville »

YGGDRASIL:
-Of course the World Tree would be mentioned, given the early Rifts fascination with Millennium Trees. This may be their ancestor, and connects many worlds via rifts among its branches. A single giant branch is Toughness +23, and the tree itself is at least Toughness +28 (500,000 M.D.C.). A character can risk death and attempt to gain knowledge as Odin did- losing M.D.C. in the process permanently- they'll gain all the Ley Line Walker abilities, knowledge of all magic, and more.

-Jormungandr isn't given his name, and it's said he gnaws on the brances of the World Tree (that's a squirrel in the mythos). It is FANTASTICALLY strong, however, sporting 120,000 M.D.C., which is in the Zeus/Brahma tier! And it's bite is 4D6x20! Not x10, but x20! It has weak defenses for a god, but still has 7 attacks, so he's way up there.

-Fenrir, or the Fenris Wolf, is here called "The Great Fenrir Wolf" and given his Norse origin story (bound by a chain made from the beard of a woman, the breath of a fish, and the sound of a cat's walk). He now exists in a permanent frothing rage, eager to unleash himself and aide in Ragnarok. Hel is thinking about freeing him, but as of yet, he's still chained up in the netherworld somewhere. He's a pretty powerful attacker, but is notably beneath almost any God of note- not too impressive for the beging that's supposed to slay Odin in the end of times. But wow- Immune to all Magic AND Psionics.

-The Norse Giants are not named "Jotuns" because there's already multiple Giant races in the game, one of which are called "Jotans"- instead, those are all mentioned as possible "lesser Giants" while these are the real main eventers. They can roll for extra powers, some of which are INSANE- like 4,000+ M.D.C.!

Total: Abilities: 120 / Skills: 00--0 / Advantages: 18 / Powers: 46 / Defenses: 14 (198)

-Hrungnir is a Giant Lord that hates Thor- he was tricked into thinking Thor would strike from below, and so stood on his mighty shield. Instead, Thor fought from above, and they two threw their mightiest weapons at each other- Thor was injured, but Hrungnir badly stunned and finished off by the God of Thunder. The Giants secretly ferried their King away and revived him, and he's sat seething for thousands of years, dreaming of revenge.

Asgardian Dwarf

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

ASGARDIAN DWARF R.C.C.: ST +4, STA +5, Darkvision, Immunity (Cold), Technology +6 [24]
-These are the greatest of all Dwarves, and the creators of all the Gods' magical weapons- they may even be the originators of Rune Magic. Other Dwarves will be in awe of these superior versions of themselves (who may be either uplifted Dwarves, or the originators of the race), but may fear their Rune Magic. They have light M.D.C. bodies and even have light Supernatural Strength, doing 1D6 M.D. with their unarmed strikes.

ASGARDIAN HIGH ELF R.C.C.: ST +2, STA +4, INT +3, AWA +1, Darkvision, Regeneration 2, Close Attack 1, Ranged Attack 1, Dodge +1 [27]
-These Elves are seen as demigods, but are light M.D.C. beings like the Dwarves- they care for Yggdrasil and Millennium Trees, and will fight alongside Odin at Ragnarok. Their realm is Alfheim.

Berserker

Post by Jabroniville »

BERSERKER TEMPLATE: "Rage" (ST +5, STA +5, FIGHTING +2, INT -3, Fearless, Will +4, Close Attack 1, Regeneration 1) (Flaws: Tired for Many Rounds Afterwards) [16]

-Berserkers are people "gifted" by Odin with the terrible power to go all-out in a berserk fury, attacking everyone around them. This turns them into outcasts who are feared by even their allies, and it's implied you only do this if you're ready for the sacrifice. Berserkers become M.D.C. creatures when undergoing their "Rage" (with increasing difficulties to save against entering it depending on the circumstances). It's not that impressive, aside from one extra attack- you just become a Light M.D.C. character for a bit. These kind of "Lots of powers; short weakness" piles of powers are tricky to stat out- you can't just give them ALL half-price Powers, since it's not like the Flaw stacks.

Valkyrie

Post by Jabroniville »

VALKYRIE R.C.C.: ST +7, STA +6, AWA +1, Darkvision, See the Invisible, Turn Invisible (4/day), Comprehend Languages 3, Regeneration 4, Flight 5 [55]

-Valkyries are given such a tiny bio it almost looks like they forgot to include it- "Oh shit here's the Choosers of the Slain! Sometimes Odin lets them do their own thing for a couple centuries, I dunno". Valkyries are pretty strong and tough, typically doing +9 damage with +9 Toughness (with enchanted Mail armor pushing them to +11), but they don't get extra attacks or anything. Just another in a long line of "Light M.D.C. Beings", though they're on the upper tier of those.
