Diego finds Sergeant Kreppler, the base's head of security, talking with a couple of his subordinates at a security station. The Ascendant is able to overhear Kreppler heatedly questioning them about how Chen could have gotten in and out of the base without his being check in or out at the guard post at the base's entry. When he sees Diego approaching the aging salt and pepper haired German pursed his lips and dismisses the people he had been speaking with.

"What can I do for you sir?"

"Las Vegas? Why are you going to Las Vegas?"
"Praetor Null says that he needs a break from the grind and wants to take a bunch of the boys on a little gambling trip. He said the women-folk would be more than happy to tend to the base while we were gone." John pauses only for a moment with serious look on his face before the inevitable "Just kidding." He hopes his humor hasn't gone to far. A joke every now and then seems to be the proper medicine when he's doing one dangerous mission after the next.

"We have a clandestine operation to carry out by the directive of Ascendant Chen. I'm not at liberty to discuss the details at the moment. It suffices to say that I'll definitely need a proper disguise to hide my identity from any security cameras that might link with NSA and Stronghold. I'd say you are the best I know around here and defeating Big Brother's watchful eye. I believe we're going to try and avoid the heavily trafficked areas of the city as much as possible, but to be frank, I'm not sure we'll always be able to do that. I'll take whatever paraphernalia and advice you can give."

Iona seeks out a patient who not only has injuries but manifests anxiety as well. Additionally, it will also have to be close to the time when they would receive another dose of painkiller. As she approaches the patient, she greets them with a warm smile. "Sir, it's almost time for your medications. I notice that the discomfort from your injuries is making you restless. I'm going to prescribe a small dose of premium painkiller to help you deal with the psychological complications along with localized pain as well."
Iona hopes that the patient will simply acquiesce to her "professional opinion", but if not she'll continue to insist insist that they need it until the patient gives in. If the patient becomes belligerent, then she'll have orderlies restrain the patient and administer the dose anyway. Here is the Deception Roll: Deception roll vs. patient: 1d20+8 20. So, a total of 20.

The Corporal gives John a tried smile in response to his joke about Null taking people to Las Vegas. An understanding nod is given when he explains that he is unable to share details about his mission with her. She offers an explanation for the question though.

"I'm willing to help. Though disguises need to be maintained. I won't be there for those reapplications if your away for more than a day. With that in mind, let's do this about half an hour before you need to head out."

As long as John lets her know when they are taking off, Tilly schedules the pre-mission prep with John as she suggested. Sander does ask him more questions though. Such as the type of places he expects to go, as well as what kind of activity he expects to be undertaking. So long as he provides her with accurate information, she tailors the disguise, accordingly, setting him up with a casual suit, some make up to smooth out his wrinkles, adjust the perception of his face's angles and depth of his eyes, as well as lighten his skin tone. A tasteful with and some stylish glasses, not sunglasses, are also supplied.
OOC wrote:Tilly's disguise will last John about 24 hours, unless something happens to erode it before then. Make a note, Tilly rolled a 23 on her Deception check for the Disguise.

Iona comes to a patient suffering from burns on her left arm. One of the nurses having informed Iona that she had been complaining a great deal about her discomfort. Loudly. Iona initially gets a grumpy look from the injured woman. Though the promise of pain relievers receives a small nod from her. The effects aren't immediate. After about five minutes of observation Iona notes the woman's cognitive impairment begins and after ten she has fallen asleep.

Upon coming across Kepler, Diego made sure to treat the man with the respect he deserved. Time and again he'd proven himself to be a valuable asset. Pawns could be sacrifice with abandon if they served a useful cause, so unless trying to motivate them it made no sense to treat them as anything more important than they were. Kepler was more like a bishop or knight. So, Diego treated the man accordingly. "My recent location for open source data collection in Ward 8 has been compromised. I need to once again make a trip to a safe location to gather data for an operation, but am not familiar with the city enough. Do you know of any cafes or locations with wifi I can utilize where I can blend in? Operational security of this base does not permit the intelligence gathering I need to do.", inquires Diego.

He intentionally left some bits vague. Despite trusting the man to do his job, Diego by his nature was secretive and everyone except TIlly was on a need to know. In this case, Kepler did not need to know why. Diego didn't need transport. After the recent incident with his van, Diego knew not to even ask for that. Making his way about the city between the dark places was trivial now.

Kreppler takes a moment to think through his response rather offering off the top of his head suggestions. Or delivering piece meal information. The moment of silence ends as his light German accent and gravely voice grates at the air.

"You need to use the internet? Corporal Sander has Braxton doing morning data draws from the net. It isn't up to date to the hour, and it is just data, no e-mails or other communication. That's one option. The wards surrounding Ward 8 are the next best place to find luxury comforts. Then there is the shady option of heading into Jaguar territory. Initium Novum Tower is set up for it."

Diego knew the best course of action was the wards around Ward 8. There was bound to be a coffee shop or cafe with internet he could get a cheap coffee and pretend to be planning a relocation to somewhere less hostile. It also would give him some recon opportunity on the situation in that area with his own eyes. If Diego was thinking clearly this would be the best course of action.

Ever since holding the black beating heart in his hands, Diego's mind has been clouded. Going to Jaguar territory was full of risk, but maybe, just maybe he'd see the car mentioned as driving away with his heart. It would add a risk to a mission that would save his hide, but getting one step closer to that heart...

"Is there a suitable location in Initium Novum Tower I could blend in as doing some simple looking around the internet on a tablet?", inquires Diego. He could still feel the heart missing from him.
I am not expecting to actually get clues on the heart, but figure I'd play up the obsession.

The Sergeant stared silently at Diego's misty black cloud-mass, his brow furrowed. After a twenty or so seconds of uncomforrtable silence he shakes his head. Finally mounting a response.

"The Tower is a big building. It is meant to host a self sustaining community indefinitely. I don't know how the Jaguars have it set up in detail. I do know that there is a casino, a club, and restaurants. You should be able to get wifi access in any of those places."

There is a brief pause before the aging soldier raised an eyebrow.

"You raided a Jaguar drug lab recently. How much do they know about what you are able to do?"

Thank you, Corporal! Professional as always.” Despite Sander’s hotness, he refrained from ramping up his conversation in any way that might be regarded as “Hitting on her”. Collecting the elements of the disguise that she presented, he nods before turning to head back to his room. “To a glorious and triumphant mission.

When John returns to his room, he makes sure all the items for the disguise are stored for transport. With only about 24 hours of obfuscation, he’s going to have to be shrewd concerning when to use it.

His attention then turns to his armaments. Although his last two missions have required finesse to a certain degree, both have ended in dangerous firefights. His desire to bring heavy weapons long is once again smothered by the need for secrecy and non-conspicuous attire. He takes a deep sigh, passing over his rocket launcher, assault rifle, and other assortment of heavy weapons. He almost passes over his anti-personnel Claymore mine when he picks it up and places it into his duffle-bag. Rounding out is weapons are his combat knife, pistol, and suppressor. Of course, a generous amount of pistol is taken as well.

I hope you cooperate, Anna. For your sake and mine.

When the departure hour arrives, John reports to the assembly area.

Taking care to ensure that the drug meets all the basic features that her teammates request, Iona monitors each step of the drug's application and effect. Hmmmm.
OOC: 10 minutes is a little fast for Iona’s taste. Can Iona discern if the drugs effect is due to the patients weakened state or is it likely to be just as quick on Anna? If she thinks that it is, then she’d like to dilute its potency just a little more….with euphoria setting in after 5 minutes, but unconsciousness and incapacitation not setting in for about 20 minutes. She just wants John to have enough time to ask for the check, pay for dinner, and escort Anna (still walking) out to the car before she passes out. If she’s a goner within 10 minutes of ingesting the drug, that may be a little quick (thus creating an incident in the restaurant).
After he observations are complete, she heads back into the lab to make her last minute adjustments to the drug before gathering her disguise materials and heading for the assembly area.

A raid on the Jaguars home would be needed to get back what was his. It did cross Diegos mind to just go for it under the pretense of a wifi connection to gather information. Anything to have an excuse to enter the Jaguar territory really. "They know too much.", replies Diego before exiting the situation and letting his mind stew.

He had time, but logistics and sorting out the details was not short work. Bringing a crew that wasn't exactly fit for this type of operation presented some operational challenges that would need to be overcome. Complicating the planning with a scouting mission of Jaguar territory screamed disaster. The need for the heart also screamed. It was a general cacophony of noise in his mind.

After this mission, Diego would get out of the disfavour of Praetor Null. That would buy him something for help if needed. Failing on a simple logistical planning step would surely lead to his demise. So, against the screaming voice and beat of the black heart in his head, Diego decided to go to the areas around Ward 8 when it was conducive for his powers and skill set.

OOC wrote:I wanted to see if Diego would give into his obsession and head into Jaguar territory. You would have gotten 1 HP and complications would have arisen. Given Diego's powers, nothing eventful will occur on the trip from the periphery Ward around Ward 8. He'll notice general tightening of security, some preemptive signs of increasing manpower in the city to support Chen's warning about the Stronghold board meeting. But nothing to hinder him as long as he just heads to a cafe' and returns to the HQ.

Make a Spycraft check to gather information, and let me know what you are looking for.

With his heart still on getting to Jaguar territory, but his mind winning this time, Diego makes his way form the base with a few dollars. He made sure to bring just enough for a coffee, danish, and something to bring back for Tilly. Upon his return, he would need to read her in on the operation. Bringing some tasty food if any at the cafe he found just felt like something he should do. In a common backpack just big enough for a tablet and note book, Diego carried the tablet, cash, and notebook. In his native form, he wouldn't be able to get through cracks with the backpack so his path took a little longer. All he really needed to do was get close enough to shift into a random person for walking anyway.

On the trek to Cafe Mostra, some smaller coffee shop in a ward off of Ward 8 Diego settled in with an expresso. His current form was out of the usual male sex. Instead, he adopted the form of a mid thirties Russian looking woman who wasn't head turning beautiful, but still had the girl next door type appearance. His attire was also standard of jeans, greyish short sleeve shirt, and yellow long sleeve shirt underneath. A few men tried to chat him up, but having his head buried in the tablet was the clear sign to go away. For a city that was having several battles raged it all felt quite normal.

Diego started his search for places which would be good for stashing the target. For anyone spying on his internet traffic, it would come across as someone just looking at new constructions or places to rent. On top of that, he dug into the various areas. Again, simple stuff anyone does if interested into relocating. In Hong Kong, Diego had done similar. Each area was evaluated for minimal chances of being interrupted and still something they could get for a few days with cash on hand or just squat. Even high crime rate areas would work so long as it wasn't too high. Any place which maximized holding the target for a few days without them being interrupted really.

Once finding a good place, Diego started looking into transportation. His mind kept thinking of the car that took his black heart, part of him, away. He had to keep focus though. With their funds as they were, he first checked to see if there was any cars in classified ads or asking minimal question rental places that might fit the bill. It didn't have to be a great car so long as it drove decently enough and wouldn't draw too much attention to the group. If he couldn't find any within what the group could afford, he next started looking for any impound lots or places where a stolen car might not get noticed for a while and was lower risk to get. After they were done with it, trashing it to make it look like a teen joy ride would be simple enough.

Diego also took the chance to check the local news of Las Vegas. Of particular interest was how the city was handling the recent spread of the macrovirus. Ever since the hospital where the creatures spread, Diego was keen to make sure its mutations didn't effect their missions or objectives. With those creatures about, Las Vegas and the world for that matter surely changed. Stuck in the fortified Hadron City, Diego didn't have the same exposure to the world he used to have. Another point of interest was crime rates and things that would impact how easy it would be to abduct the target. Was there extra cops around? Did the city make a big show of beefing up security? Were the casinos doing anything special?

Once he got his information he needed, Diego got a tiramisu and headed back to the base. Upon his arrival, he called for Tilly to meet him in a conference room. Diego knew he was getting disconnected from people, so Sanders input was always a reminder of how to handle the pawns. His mind also wasn't at top performance due to the constant battle with his "heart" to drop everything and get the black heart back. He also gave her the Tiramisu. In the meeting, Diego ran through the rough bits of the plan and how long he was expected to be gone.

Once it was all settled, Diego packed enough cash or what the base could reasonably spare, a tablet, a burner phone, and the info on the target for the trip. The remainder of his time before Chen notifying him of the departure was spent planning out the details as best he could before their arrival.
Spycraft 31

Its a longer post, but basically he looking up an optimal place to stash the target that they can realistically get, the best place to buy/rent/steal a vehicle that will sort of fit in for the abduction, any security generally about the city they might need to worry about, and of course the Macro Virus that will cause Las Vegas to be walled in with shipping containers.

OOC wrote:This is the first time, in a long time, that Diego has looked a news concerning the outside world in any seriousness or detail. Chen described a pandemic. That is confirmed here. The Macro Virus has gone global and is no longer a secret. In Vegas it isn't full on zombie apocalypse, but there are regular conflicts with the infected. There is a military presence in the city and police are more active and prepared for serious trouble. Businesses with means, such as noteworthy casinos, are hiring extra security, or in some cases a dedicated group of mercs.

For vehicles it runs the range of junkyards selling barely functional vehicles on the cheap, sleezy used car dealerships, and private owners selling old used cars with uncertain quality or reliability. Regardless of the route you take, you'll be able to arrange something.

When it comes to a place to hold up with your hostage, Diego finds options as well. There is a wealth family going on vacation that is looking to hire a house sitter for a couple months. Similarly there are some middle class households that are looking to rent their homes while they are out of town for an extended period. Diego finds some lower income places that has either been seized by the bank or deemed unsafe, and shouldn't have anyone living in them for a while. There are also a handful of hole in the wall hotels and motels that get mentioned in crimes, but have no advertisements anywhere, that seem the sort of no questions asked places Diego is familiar with.

An hour before the 15 minute heads up, Diego makes his rounds to ensure everyone is ready and calls them into a conference room to convey what he has learned."Las Vegas is'n't what it used to be. The Macro Virus creatures have become public knowledge and security has been ramped up in the city. Military presence is not just limited to Nellis anymore and the police are more heavily armed. Even some of the casinos have hired private armies if they could afford them to help protect their properties. We will need to be careful where we end up trying to lure the target. As backup, I will be in the location John drugs the target.", begins Diego.

"My searches show we should be able to procure a vehicle easily enough that is in decent enough shape for our mission. A few hours of checking junkyards or even shady used car lots should do the trick. A safe house should be simple enough to come by as well. If we masquerade as house sitters, we should be able to procure a place for a few days. There is also some shady motels which will also do the trick. If we need to, there is some foreclosures that are unlikely to be inhabited as well. Once we get a vehicle, we will need to check the neighbourhoods.", continues Diego.

In his native form, he scans the room. It's not visible to the others and Diego knows it, so he adds one final remark. "Is everyone ready?"

Even while doing the last minute brief, Diego as thinking past it when they got back to the city. His next stop was going to be the Jaguar area. Iona was cobase lead so she would need to step up.
