And thus, secrets revealed!

To put it into mechanical terms; While he seems to display a general level of high toughness, bludgeoning damage has no effect whatsoever. In addition your attempts to restrain him bodily have had very little effect, though he himself seems to have displayed a more average level of strength then what could normally break such bindings.

While Philip wouldn't have taken damage either way, why is he rolling toughness as well while attacking the woman?

Slam attacks also do their damage (halved) to the attacker.

Do they now? I don't recall that in the book myself. Which page was that on?

DCA p.178

SLAM ATTACK
When you charge, you can charge right into your target, using your momentum to strengthen your attack, but potentially receiving some damage from the impact yourself. The damage rank for your attack equals your movement speed rank, or your normal damage rank with a +1circumstance bonus, whichever is higher. If you move your full speed before you charge, increase your damage by either means by an additional +1 circumstance bonus.

Base slam attack damage (before applying circumstance modifiers) is limited by power level. Example: Bulletman flies into a foe, moving at speed rank 10. His unarmed damage (Strength) rank is only 2, so he uses his speed rank of 10 for the damage. Since he also moved his full speed to build up momentum, he increases his damage by +1 for a total damage rank of 11. If a base damage rank of 10 is too high for the series, the GM may impose a lower limit on Bulletman’s slam attack damage, applying the +1 modifier for the full speed move to the lowered rank. You suffer some of the impact of slamming into a target; make a Toughness resistance check against half the damage rank of your attack (rounded down).

Fancy that. Alright, it all checks out then. Take an HP for informing me about this, as I feel generous this morning. In a good mood after checking out Afterlife.

Right, Philip's headed for the gunslinger. What're Foxy, Neko, and Cheyenne going to do with this new revelation about your opponent?

Technically you can do that with hero points, so a perfectly valid option within limits!

Actually, I just re-checked what I'd written, and he is not actually immune to grapples specifically. My apologies on that, Catsi. You may attempt another grapple to keep him in place.
