Godzilla vs Kong

Post by Darrin Kelley »

Because I am a huge Kaiju fan, I signed up for HBO MAX and streamed Godzilla vs. Kong this morning.

I'm going to avoid spoilers. But this movie did not disappoint. It had plenty of Kaiju action. It was a monster mash from the very beginning. And the story was rock solid. It was very satisfying.

Ever since getting HBO Max as part of ATT cell plan, I've been getting into this new Monster verse. I can't wait to watch Godzilla vs Kong.

For all its flaws, and there was plenty if you looked at the acting or script, it delivered the main point of the movie beyond what I could have hoped. Godzilla vs King Kong and plenty of Kaiju fight scenes that were well done. I can appreciate a movie that knows what its audience wants to see and delivers.

I actually perfer this one to the original. This one at least attempts to explain WHY they were fighting...
Spoiler
Kong get's ropped into it as a diversionary tactic to give the "Human Heroes" a chance to Build Mechagodzilla. Godzilla himself sensed both Mechagodzilla & Kong were off the Island and wanted to re-establish his territory lines

I saw it on Thursday night and, I have to say, that while it's not my favorite entry in the Monsterverse (I still prefer Skull Island) I enjoyed it a lot. The good thing is that the movies doesn't waste, doesn't introduce a useless romantic subplot or any other out-of-place element.

Saw it this afternoon and enjoyed it.
Spoiler
I was mildly disappointed by the lack of an end credits bit. I was hoping for something to set up aliens and Space Godzilla or the like, because it seems the obvious next step and the most likely explanation for some of the Hollow Earth stuff.
What is tolerance? It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other's folly. That is the first law of nature.

Imagined Dialogue:
Spoiler
Godzilla: SUBMIT!

Kong: I WILL NEVER SUBMIT!

Godzilla: ... fine, whatever.

Kong: ... huh?

Godzilla: Look, you asshole, I got a lot of other crap on my plate today! Too much, in fact, to make settling your hash a priority!

Kong: But ... but ... our ancient grudge --

Godzilla: Oh, come on! You sound like my dad with that ancient grudge garbage! Look, lie here 'til you die, crawl down your stupid hole to stupid hole-land, do whatever, I don't care! I'M BUSY DAMMIT! <withdraws>

Kong: ... you ... you ... you big jerk! <passes out>

This fit's so well, it's not unrealistic that they actually said that....

Seems like that's what they said. I pictured that black knight scene from Monty Python a little

I saw it and its was Awesome. plenty of Kaiju action with the human element minimized to advance the plot and allow the monsters to fight. heard osme talk about the lack of end credit scene but there is one actually they made one but the scene fit so nicely into the movie that they just added it in at the end of the film.

I've seen this movie twice now. The fights are the best part, and if you stream it on the HBO app you can fast forward the boring parts. I also enjoyed the fact that I could watch a recent new movie with Closed Caption.
