So there may be some K-9 units patrolling the area, and they aren't fooled by any amount of air freshener. It would be a shame if you missed your hearing because you were being booked."

@Danni. About 300ft above you there is a small drone hovering.

@Brandon. The driver looks at you and gulps nervously. "Um thanks officer. That is good advice."
He rolls the window up and drives to the end of the carpark furthest from the courthouse.

Danni Morgan

Danni's gaze swept the surrounding area carefully before she spotted the drone. She keyed her commlink as she focused on the hovering object. "All points, be advised we have a drone in sight. About 300 feet up, over the building."

>OOC: small (hobbyist) kind of drone, or larger camera/commercial model, like a TV station would use? Any markings visible? Do we know if HPD or any other official agencies routinely use drones? (ie. is it possibly part of the courthouse security apparatus). Any regulations that might make it illegal to have a drone in the area (some cities have area or altitude restrictions- not sure about Houston).

Let me know if I need any more rolls

"Don't tunnel vision on metahumans Archer. A meta can still hire thugs to back them up in an operation."

Standing off to the side in the parking space he monitored Brandon's interaction with the driver he had engaged, whose vehicle had been noted as having a smoker. After Danni's most recent observations were shared he decided it was a good time to check in with the higher ranked officers on sight and update them. So he put in a line to Sergeant Grant.

"We have noticed a drone over the courthouse, some suspicious gardeners watching the road way to the courthouse, and three vehicles with tinted windows are positioned across the courthouse. Total of eleven occupants just sitting there. The men in the vehicles, and the gardeners are Latino. I bring this up because one of the group's likely to take action today is MS-13."

As far as you are al aware there is no Drone operator as part of either the court or Houston PD on site. The law states that it is illegal to fly a drone over a correctional facility or critical infrastructure site. Also that the operator needs to be within line of sight and within 300ft of their drone.
Reporters are allowed to use drones to record footage if the operator is part of a telecommunications or media outlet.

The drone is a small hobbyist sized drone but big enough to have a camera. It has no discernible markings on it.

You all get a notification over your radio that the vehicle is 5 minutes out.

Seargent Grant replies "Be advised. We are not operating a drone. We have also not been notified of any news crews in the area. See if you can track down the operator. As for the others. Keep them under surveillance. If they make a move towards the courthouse let security know so that we can give them an extra thorough search and keep an eye on them.."

On receiving Brandon's update he looks to the man, makes eye contact, and nods so that he knows he heard and received the message. He remains silent though, waiting for the Sergeant's response. After she is finished he follows up.

"Acknowledged. We suspect some of the people in one vehicle were smoking marijuana, if you want an excuse to send dogs to check them out."

Once that was communicated Douglas began making his way across the street, back towards the courthouse. As he went he spoke over coms to his teammates.

"Knight, keep a watch out front. Monitor the the vehicles we checked out. If they or the passengers approach the courthouse, inform security. Archer, Sergeant Grant has confirmed that we don't have any birds in the air and there shouldn't be any news crews in the area with drones either. Try to track down the operator. Bishop, you and I can secure the back of the courthouse. Anything that happens out front is likely to be a distraction meant to pull attention away from an attack on the transport."

Conner Flanagan
HP: 1
CND: Fine

Conner was content to watch the situation unfold from a distance as if keeping watch around the court house. He was ready to spring into action for action that never came. Still, he didn't mind not getting into a scrap. If it was a boring assignment all the better as it would go by the numbers. When word came over the radio to keep an eye out Conner simply responded. "Got it. Going to keep watch. Might be out of contact for a few.", over the radio.

He moved into a nook in the court house and eye the pigeon he chatted with earlier. It was a rather boring conversation about bird seed. Conner preferred the bigger pieces and Mike, the pigeons name, liked the smaller bits. Conner reached out to Mike's mind and making the sound of promising the tasteless small seed, he tried to borrow Mikes mind for a bit.

Mike was proving to be tougher than some animals, but Conner pushed. With whatever set of eyes he could get, Mikes with a birds eye view or his own with a basic patrol pattern, Conner kept watch.

"Affirmative," Brandon replies.

He then begins another sweep of the area behind the courthouse.

Danni Morgan

"Affirmative," Danni replied to the call to look for the drone's operator. She gave the object one more considering look- she was used to having drones mostly as allies, not as the opposition. Small as it was, it might have a camera- but no obvious weapons package and probably not even a targeting designator.

She turned in a slow circle, trying to visualize sightlines to where an operator might be- in its own way, it wasn't all THAT different from counter-sniper operations, trying to visualize where she would try to be if she was in their role.

>OOC: Another Notice check, for this task, 1d20+13= 31; roll https://orokos.com/roll/900016 (as before, she has a -1 per 100 feet, instead of -1 per 10)

Do you want a supplemental roll for "where an operator might find to be a favorable observation point? Danni has Knowledge (tactics) and Profession (Soldier) if either of those might help her deduce a likely location- let me know if I should add one of those rolls.

@Danni- in the Reisner Street Parking Garage would be the best for a drone operator. Luckily for you the drone doesn't seem to be focused on the roof of the municipal court house.. Parked on the first floor near the edge with a clear view of the drone is a beat up pick-up truck with an occupant. There is an LED glow from something in his lap.

@Conner. You take control of that stubborn pigeon's senses. As the pigeon flies up you can see more people drifting into the courthouse. The gardeners are still pretending to garden while watching the road. You can see Danni focusing intently on the Reisner Street Garage to the North West.

@Brandon and Douglas you are also aware of more people starting to arrive at the courthouse. A couple of late model cars pull into the carpark. One is a grey Lexus. A distinguished looking man with a briefcase steps out. He stands and waits for the driver of the other vehicle, a bright yellow Lamborghini, to get out. The driver is handsome guy in his forties dressed in expensive looking casual clothes. They shake hands and start to move towards the courthouse.

Danni Morgan

As soon as she spotted the potential operator, she stepped back away from the edge- so that if the drone focused on her, it wouldn't see her looking at HIM.

"Archer to all points- be advised, probable sighting on drone operator. Reisner Garage, level 1, facing towards the courthouse. Civilian vehicle, not a news van. Beat-up (color) pickup, one occupant visible." She nearly, out of habit, referred to the truck as a Technical ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_(vehicle) ). "He has a good line of sight to the rear building approach too- anybody close enough to engage before transport arrives?"

If nothing else, she could engage (or at least monitor him more closely), but it would be very obvious, and her options were a bit limited...
