Lieutenant Powell nods agrreably.
"You guys know what you are doing..wherever you think ismost useful. We are in courthouse 4. It is a closed trial,no press, no public. There will be 2 court security and 2 cops on the inside. We have 2 outside. We tried to close the other court rooms down but they wouldn't let us. There will be a couple of feds in the courtroom too. The 2 lead suspects will be arriving in half an hour. Appreciate the back up even though this job may kill you with boredom. I'll leave you to it."

He goes back to talking to his seargent.

Brandon taps Conner on the shoulder and motions for the two of them to go outside.

As they get away from everyone, Brandon whispers "It takes a lot of concentration to do my magic eyes trick, so I could be vulnerable to ambushes. Just want you to know."

When they get outside, Brandon's eyes shift to unnatural blue as he begins scouting the path the van will approach from.

Conner Flannagan
HP: 1
CND: Fine

Conner was glad to be out of the room. Just milling about was rather boring and while he didn't mind being indoors, he sometimes preferred the chit chat of birds over people. "If anything happens, we'll be ready. Just to be safe, I'll get some birds or strays to be our look outs. You'd be surprised how bored some of the stray dogs and birds can get out. Even they get tired of talking about air currents or best places to get food after a while.", says Conner.

Once they cleared the building and started the route, Conner kept his eyes out on the route for signs of an ambush and the odd animal. In the event he spotted one, he stop for a moment and try to enlist it into being a scout. If anything out of the ordinary happens, he'd ask to give a tweet or bark or whatever of what they saw.
I'll take 10 on the rolls to get the animals to help for 23. Its enough to get indifferent ones to friendly and friendly ones to helpful.

There municipal courts are pretty close to the central police station, police garage, police supply store. Behind it overlooking the roller door is the Downtown Trinity Church. There is more parking and a parking garage. Across the street there is another carpark.

What is the plan?

Douglas Reach
HP: 1
CND: Fine

After the short exchange with the Lieutenant Douglas turns about and withdraws from the room with the rest of his team. Once outside he offers some parting advice before they split up.

"Be on the look out for potential sniper vantage points as well. Not just the ground level. Danni, try to find a spot that gives you line of sight on the fire exits. I'm going to check out the security in place, including the cameras."

Then he broke away from the group and began following the route the prisoners were expected to take to the courtroom reserved for their trial. As he went Douglas took note of the cameras and personnel in the area. Coming to the police that were setup as guard he chatted with them briefly and asked them to contact him directly if trouble arose. Not to rely on a middleman to get word to SWAT.

After that Douglas broadened his internal inspection of the courthouse security. Eventually coming to the security station where camera seeds would be observed from. He took some time to watch the monitors and repeated his advisor comments to the person on duty there: contact SWAT directly if trouble arose.
OOC wrote:I don't know how much of this you want to play out. Douglas will be taking 10 on Knowledge Tactics for a result of 25 to look for weaknesses in the defensive setup of security guards and ways to bypass them or cameras.

I'll also be taking 10 on Notice and Sense Motive (on people linked to security) checks, for a total of 20.

Much to your surprise the security seems to be as good as you could hope for considering two large numbers of civilians in the building and the number of fire exits. The security guards and police seem adequately alert.

The monitors are just black and white monitors. The indictment has already been going on for several months. Although the fire exits power are weak points they lead to only one corridor that lconnects to the external firedoor. The guards on the metal detectors at the entrance to the courthouse seem to be doing their job with some attention to detail.

Danni, the church or the parking garage would make a good vintage point for you. The gas pumping building also has good vantage points. The roof of the courthouse is also flat.

Danni, you are shown the access to the roof. You are overlooking the back of the courthouse. You can find a spot near the roof edge that gives you a clear overlook without revealing your position.

Connor as you are busy moving around the building making friends with 1 alley ca,t 3 pigeons, and a seagull you notice a small crowd at the back of the building.of cops, secretaries and a few curious bystanders. There are a couple of gardeners in front of the church who are paying a lot of attention to the road the van will come in on.

Brandon, your keen senses fail to reveal any powers being used to hide anything but in the parking lot facing the front of the courthouse there are 3 vehicles with dark tinted windows, 2 sedans and a van. You get yhe sense that there is something inside.

Upon noticing the gardeners, Conner stops for a moment and tries to slip into the mind of the cat he talked with earlier. Mr. Whiskers, as his former owner used to call him, seemed friendly enough so Conner hoped he wouldn't try to resist someone borrowing his eyes for a bit.

Assuming the cat goes along or gets compelled, Conner instructs Mr. Whiskers to get right up to the gardeners as cats typically do. At the same time, Conner took the opportunity to look for signs of weapons or pic up any abnormal scents. He also tried to guage what the gardners might be up to.

Short of getting Mr. Whiskers to go along, Conner walks by on his route to get his own eyes on the gardeners.

I am assuming its a cat from the book, so it would have a +1 will assuming it wants to resist Conners control.

Trying not to make too much of a show, Brandon radios to the rest of the team.

"Rook, we have three vehicles with tinted windows along the path that could have surprises."

He then gives a few extra details so Danni can target them from her perch.

Other than the less that top notch camera quality, the security wasn't bad. Douglas did get in touch with one of the beat cops and advised them to station someone in the hallway where the fire exit lead into. He was about to make his way outside when he received Brandon's message. Tinted windows. Might be Feds, but he wasn't going to assume that.

"I'll head out and take a closer look. Bishop and Knight, get into position to provide support."

... Douglas says over the coms before following up on the statement. Before he went outside to look himself, Douglas consulted the the courthouse security personnel, and beat cops assigned to guard duty to see if any of them recognized the three vehicles that Brandon had described across the street from the courthouse. In the event they didn't he asked them to stay alert, then headed outside.

Even if they did know who the sedans and van belonged to, Douglas was intent on investigating himself. If the precinct was corrupt, the team might not be able to trust their fellow officers. Once outside Douglas made sure Brandon and Conner were in position to render aid if things went poorly, then he crossed the street, walked straight for the van, and rapped his knuckles over the driver's side window.
OOC wrote:I'll use Skill Mastery to take 10 on a Notice check, for a total of 20, on Douglas' approach. He'll be looking for signs that these three vehicles have been there for a while. Things like cigarette butts on the ground outside the window.

Danni Morgan

With her rifle case in hand, Danni made her way up to the roof. As soon as she was out in the open air, she put on her baseball cap (the new one, that actually said "SWAT" on it, instead of her old Houston Police one)- she would have put on her wraparound sunglasses, but she hadn't taken them off in the first place.

If their were other police or court personnel out on the roof, she gave them a companionable nod as she headed out a bit closer to the edge of the roof. It didn't take that long to walk the perimeter, getting an idea of what other buildings were nearby, and where the sightlines and likely approaches were. Remembering their anti-superhuman role, she made sure to scan likely aerial approaches as well- she used the same judgement she would have used scanning for likely drone vectors on a hostile deployment- a human-thinking flier would likely make use of the same routes and cover...

With a first walkthrough complete, she had just settled down in a llkely spot and opened up her gun case when Brandon noted the vehicles out front. "Archer- received," she responded. Slinging her heavy rifle across her back for now, she walked back towards the front of the roof to get a look at the vehicles. She stayed far enough back to just take a look- not close enough to the edge to really draw the eye from down below (unless they were already scanning the roofline).

@Connor. It is a scrawny hungry cat. It will happily let you so long as it gets more food. As you meander nearer to the gardeners you see one has a cellphone in his hand. He is talking quietly but urgently in Spanish, conferring with his colleague occasionally.

As you approach the van you hear voices in Spanish speaking softly. As you get close your hear a sharp exclamation and the voices stop.
Can you make another notice check for me?

@Danni. There is no one else up on the roof. It is Texas. Roofs get hot. With your keen eyesight you see that the car furthest from you has a window cracked open with possibly cigarette smoke coming out of it.

As Douglas approaches the van, you can see the 2nd car rock on it's springs a little as if someone or something moved.

Danni Morgan

At the signs of activity, Danni keyed her commlink. "Archer to Rook, movement in Vehicle 2 on your approach to Vehicle 1. Also activity in Vehicle 3, maybe a smoker."

With that said, she dropped to one knee and swung her rifle around, beginning the process of getting it ready to fire. Her instinct was that the vehicles were probably Feds, and she certainly wasn't ready to actually POINT the rifle at them yet, but it wouldn't hurt to be ready.

>OOC: How are those vehicles parked? Are they in that row facing Lubbock St? Regular spaces or reserved/dedicated spots (like Handicapped or "OfficiaL Use Only")? Nose in, or nose out for quick departure? And do any of them have government plates or civilian tags?

Hearing the chatter, Conner moves to a point past the two cars, he then turns and looks back keeping them both in line of sight.
