2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
There are other cops who will have basic medical.training, you all do. You can find someone to hand him off to.
Yeah, you can make a search roll to study them and see if any details are off.

So, where did the fire exit dump us out (what side of the building)? Closer to the front door, or closer to the back/vehicle entrance?
Once Danni hands off the patient, she is probably going to want to head back inside to secure/protect the primary targets, and I'm trying to figure what approach would work best...

Are the prisoners the pcs were assigned in the parking garage now? I'm trying to picture where everyone is now. Conner would try to be eyes on the prisoners, I think Douglas is in the control center with security cams, and not sure on the other pcs

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
My impression was that the "targets" were downstairs in the dedicated holding cells, having been brought down from the courtroom, and that most of the PCs were outside near where the fire exit dropped us.
I might be off base though...

Brandon is heading toward the prisoners as well.

Poodle did say they were moving everyone out to a secure space outside when Douglas was there, but not in game.pathfinderq1 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 12:47 am My impression was that the "targets" were downstairs in the dedicated holding cells, having been brought down from the courtroom, and that most of the PCs were outside near where the fire exit dropped us.

I thought the prisoners were being moved already via the underground parking
Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
Nows a good time as any to bring this up. I am having a bit of a tough time following the game and figuring out what is useful for Conner to do as pretty much all his investigations or checks have resulted in something akin to "everything seems like normal response by others.". Emil and his entourage in the bathroom was some intrigue, but once caught I was at a loss for what to do. It may just be me and not knowing cop/court house protocol or being preoccupied with work occasionally, but tracking in my head what is happening IC and where the major NPC's(Emil? Prisoners?) are is rather difficult.
The mention OOC of paying extra attention to what I assumed would be a normal interaction between firefighters and the fire warden also didn't feel like it gave much. Was the intent to have the PC's abandon escorting the prisoners to look for people in the court house still despite fire fighters arriving on the scene(that looked on the up and up) whose job it is to do that?

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
I am also having trouble following exactly what is going on and where we are supposed to be.
Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
Ok...the prisoners were moved from The cells to a secure area in the underground parking area. Conner went through the gate your swat van went through to get to them (rather than go back through the building).
Danni, you were outside the building at the firehouse exit having just tended to someonewho got stabbed. You passed the victim off to a nearby cop.
Douglas you are still in the courthouse, in the security room.
Brandon, you are following Conner.
Emil is still chained to something in the courthouse.
Danni, where is you rifle?
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
Ok.. guys. I have received some feedback that people feel like they are being ignored ornot rexeiving enough replies or details back. I will try to do better. I would also like advice from gms. How do you deal with things like notice if you aren't rolling for your players? Most players know if they roll a 30 on a check thatthey haven oticed whatever there is to notice or successfully sneaked ...
Advice about an easy way to do maps etc would also be appreciated to help us/me avoid confusion in the future.

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
If I trust players not to meta or if the thing people are trying to notice isn't important to the atmosphere I am trying to develop (tension or uncertainty), I tend to note in OOC that if they reach the Notice DC they see X. If it isn't something they're actively looking for and it is plot or tactically important, it's generally a good idea to roll secretly for the PCs.
For mapping, I don't. This is play by post. Not people sitting together in the same room or Roll20 video-chat. It is difficult to be hyper-tactical with movement and positioning without bogging things down. You have to update maps a lot, especially in combat. I tend to be more general and lenient here, painting in broad strokes rather than trying to get precise. To compensate for a lack of visual aid, I get descriptive about the areas people are in. Telling people where they are, what the terrain is, what NPCs are doing, general distances for important things, and what can hinder or benefit them ; that tends to be enough.
If people are spread out and have difficulty remembering where everyone is, you can keep a running OOC quote box noting people's positions. Or when you respond to them you can have a header "Douglas - Security Room" or "Brandon and Conner - Underground Holding Space" followed by the text relating to them underneath. If there are time differences, you can add those to the headers as well.

Pretty much agree with everything Sakuro said.
Ysariel is the Queen of Maps and even though she does it a lot, it still takes a lot of work to update the maps. And while they are extremely helpful, they also slow the game down since she needs more time to update them, and cause her a lot of extra anguish which takes away from her enjoyment.
As for secret notice checks, I rarely do them, and I never do them if the story turns on passing the check.
Labeling the location for each character - at least when split, but it doesn't hurt to do it all the time, does make it easier for everyone to track. When I GM, it helps me also.

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
I don't use maps for pbp. Too much work as others mentioned. With the group split as it is right now in the same scene, I keep an ooc box at the bottom of gm posts plus add description like Sakuro mentioned.
As notice checks go, if the pc is doing guard duty type stuff or constantly vigilant I get one roll when the looking starts and short of circumstances changing, such as seeing something suspicious and the PC taking an action like walking over, I use that. If the pc gives a notice roll before doing something like in this game looking for something suspicious while on guard duty I ask for a notice check. In my next gm post I acknowledge it and keep going unless something of interest shows up.
I like to trust my players as a gm, so never do secret rolls except in cases where I want to surprise the players.

Re: 2e PL 8 "the rookies" OOC.
Thanks for the clarifications- I'll try to get an IC post up shortly. (Danni's rifle should be with the rest of our gear, in whatever vehicle we drove over in).
Sadly, I do not have any useful GMing advice- I keep meaning to put a game together and never getting anything off the ground. I blame it all on hating my job (but I blame a lot of stuff on hating my job).
