Justice League Reserves #1: As Above, So Below (IC)

New Aruba is an island micronation. It's fairly new on the geological scene, but grown enough to have white beaches, a lush tropical forest, and it's very own volcano! For some, that was a selling point. Various covert organizations kept watch on it, for good or ill. But once it came a resort for the super rich, many of those organizations pulled out.

Though some 'lesser' operations still stuck around. Illicit pirate ports are pretty much an open secret no one can talk about due to the sovereignty of the nation. But the resorts are beautiful, you know? Celebrity and super rich tax haven aside, you'll find it's gorgeous, also warm year round.

But this is just the icing on a rotten cake. Why you're here is for reasons other than pleasure. Time to pay your League dues and investigate the crime ridden heart of this façade. We're dispatching two teams to the area.
Player/Team intros coming next

First off, we'll be dealing with the supply load in that volcano. Who'd expect an active volcano to be the heart of this whole thing. You - Dr Impossible, Firebird, Steadfast, The Thunderer - have a main line from the piers to the jungle to the volcano lair. A straight shot. Low profiles be damned. You're there to kick down the door and let it be known that we will not tolerate this type of crime. And if it were that easy to get the criminal element away from their dig, we'd only need you.

Secondly, we need names, contacts, and if need be, bodies. You - Lookout, Orphan, Salvo, Xenos - will be infiltrating New Paradise. A small town/village which, while not the hub, seems like where everyone with their hand in this cookie jar seem to congregate in the area. Mix with the locals. Or just hide out until you can pinpoint who's who, specifically.

Team Alpha will be airlifted from the Watchtower to a place near the piers, you'll be arriving in the evening. Most of you can fly in and clothesline everything into a pulp, but unity and strategy is was makes teamwork work. Maybe you'll have to interrogate some guards to find the way, but you're better than that.

Team Beta will be arriving mid afternoon earlier that day. Marlyssa Xenos has been given a press pass. We're sure you can handle your own, but we need you not to blow your cover. Alexa will be going undercover as a guest of [REDACTED]. Salvo, you'll be sans van, but your payload's location is listed on your communicator via Orphan.
Boy do i feel rusty writing intros. But it's a start. If you have questions, and i'm sure you will, please ask in the talk thread.

Impossible Tower, Chicago Illinois
Thaddeus slowly put down the League communicator. Standing up from his office, he taps the intercom for his secretary
"Honesty, please reschedule all my appointments and meetings to next week. Send General Elling an Apology Sample of our Products catalog and reschedule his for first thing."
Getting an affirmative, he'll go for a Tube-shaped Elevator at the far end of and state "Operations Room."
The tube itself suddenly twist's as he's deposited in a War Room that look's straight out of the 30's with a Uniform/Weapons and Equipment locker.Quickly putting on his outfit and checking his gear, he'll head for the Teleporter(or whatever is used) and, holding his Flight helmet under his arm, he'll head for the Watchtower....

Flamebird

Sandra set the Daughter of Hephaestus logo coffee mug down for a moment while she studied the sketch of a custom dagger job she had been sent. Ever since her appearance on the show Forged, her business had been growing. It still wasn't enough to pay the bills. For that her parents had arranged a part time job at the university in the language and history departments.

She chuckled slightly at the logo on the mug. Her company name had been her parents idea. They thought that villains would feel it was too obvious to believe that the owner was the secret identity of Flamebird.

Her ears picked up the distinctive sound of a specific device. It was an incomming message from her 'other' job. Sandra pulled it from her pocket and listened to the message. The team was going on a mission to New Aruba. At least it was warm there. Probably won't have a chance to work on her tan though.

After acknowledging the message she sent a quick text to her parents to let them know that something unexpected came up and she had to go out of town on business for a few days. Sandra quickly packed a small travel bag and headed out. She would change into her 'work' clothes on the way.

SALVO
Hp-2 Cnd-relaxed.

Compared to that time in Somalia this was a pretty sweet mission. All our team needed to do was find the bad guys and let the heavy artillery in the other squad take care of it. In the meantime he would have to force himself to act like a tourist. How awful :)
Panama hat, sun glasses, and his favourite Hawaiian shirt with surf boarding women in bikinis on it. Check.
First step. Take a tour of the island. If he couldn't find a sightseeing trip he would just hire a taxi driver to take him around, taking special note of where the tour DIDN'T go.

Orphan, aka Talia Taylor
Toughness: +10 | Fortitude: +10 | Reflex: +6 | Will: +4
Active Effects: Enhanced Strength 10 (30 (+10)); Variable 1 (Investigation 10 (+12), Sense Motive 10 (+10))
Condition: Normal.

The sun was bearing down on the runway as the android disembarked, however, Talia, according to the ID provided her was shaded by a large haute couture sunhat, thick sunglasses concealed her eyes, and a small wrap covered her shoulders. She wore a form fitting dress, simple, elegant, with a simple silver necklace, a brooch, and a small, fashionable clutch. She walked in a manner instructed to her by Dinah Lance, in fact it was Black Canary's clothing she had borrowed to infiltrate the island, playing the role of a socialite and media darling. She maintained her cold demeanor, or as Dinah more accurately pointed out, bitchy demeanor, ignoring the local help as they unload her luggage for transport to the main lobby of the resort for registration, where she would receive access to her suite.

She looked at Alexa who pulled off the fashionista with much more, authenticity, she felt somewhat envious of the woman's ability to interact with and command the attention of the people around her. Waiting until there was a pause in the conversation, and it was unlikely that they would be overheard, the android turned to Alexa, "It appears Mr. Chekov has already gone scouting, his comm is outside of my range already, perhaps once we register we can get one of those drinks you like so much, a Manhattan?"

Lookout, Alexa Flemming
Active Effects: None
HP: 1, Condition: Normal

Paid vacations in the tropics. This Justice League gig is perfect. It did feel a little off not having her normal PR and security with her. But they were strictly for handling normal threats. This was different. She made sure to tip the bellboys out on the street to show off a bit and to make sure they were extra careful with her stuff. She asked the head bellman his name to make sure he remembered her when she needed something done later that might be irregular.

She looks at Talia. She's doing the snobbish guest pretty well. She wondered who told her to do that. "Talia, you read my mind. That's usually my job," she laughed. "Let's get checked in and down to the beach. The sun doesn't know we are on vacation."

Michelle Reese (Steadfast)
-Team Alpha
HP: 1; Condition: Normal

Michelle was sprawled across her bed, working on her laptop, instead of sitting at the desk that she and her brother had shoehorned into what was now "her" room. She had her music on her Airpods, but it cut out for a moment, spinning into the opening bars of Hendrix. (Did anyone evn listen to the Dylan version?). She signed out of the paper she had been working on and pulled out her other phone- or, more accurately, the thing that was not a phone at all, but looked like one.

She listened to the first communication from on high, and rolled off her bed. New Aruba- she had heard of it, who hadn't? But mostly as NOT a Spring Break destination- it was too pricy, and there were all those shady rumors. It sounded like the rumors were true, and somebody was tired of hearing them. The Justice League didn't send two teams, even reserves, for petty crime.

In less than a minute, she had dug out her official costume and slid into it. She paused for a few moments, concentrating, letting the energy flow into her with each deep breath. "Ready for transport."

In less time than it had taken for her to speak the phrase, she was in the Watchtower. Ready.

Flamebird and Dr. Impossible were already there, and she nodded to them, in what she hoped was a serious and business-like manner- though she couldn't keep a bit of a smile off her face. For the moment she was simply floating in the air, about a foot off the floor of the hall- so she didn't seem quite so short...

It had been a trick.

At the time he'd been excited. It'd had been a good time. He'd been at a club celebrating somebody's birthday. Truth be told it had been a number of people's birthdays.
Truth be told, it had been a number of clubs. It had been fun and interesting. Many songs, many dances, the stories of hundreds of people shared with an inebriated joy.

When he'd been approached by a League handler he'd been less than interested in leaving. After all the mission they wanted him for wasn't until the following night.

But when they'd offered to take him into outer space?

Space, the final frontier, as the television had declared, was the last unmapped part of existence. And he'd never been on a space station before.

It had sounded exciting.

The truth had been fairly disappointing. There was no space ships full of adventurers in uniforms, no ongoing space battles, no hangers full of starfighters with plucky pilots, and no seedy bars full of aliens. It had been endless sterile hallways, with every interesting part hidden behind a locked door that they couldn't go through.

The tour had bored him to tears, and eventually he abandoned the handler to go sleep on a couch that had been left unattended in an observation lounge. Waking up a few times had resulted in him finding not much had changed, and even multiple trips to the cafeteria had been filling, but lacking in entertainment.

When they'd woken him up for the mission he'd been extremely excited. Finally a chance at action, adventure, and an exit from the space station.

"What-ho, fellow adventurers!" He booms with a cheerful laugh as he enters the room to join his teammates, "I hear that glorious battle awaits us."

As the four gathered together in the same meeting room, there was no one else there. Sure there were other people around the Watchtower, a look outside confirmed that, but it seemed kind of exclusive to these four heroes. Four walls, four different names. And it was pretty spacious. In the middle was a platform that glowed white. Big enough for four people to stand on. "New Aruba awaits," a voice came over intercom, it sounded a cross high male, low female tone. "Please enjoy your trip," there was a jovial tone to the voice, "make the world a better place."
Miracle wrote:If there is any conversation before the next part, which there may be, I'll reply to it as well. Not trying to rush, but hey, job to do!
Once on the other side, the scenery changed to a sunset on a beach near a jungle. Off in the distance, to the west, a seemingly out of place, well built pier and warehouses were visible. The guards, armed with what looked like energy rifles, were blissfully unaware of the heroes arrival.

Michelle took one long look at the empty room around them, and then started drifting towards the waiting platform. "So the call I got said 'unity and strategy are what makes teamwork work', and that sounds like this is some kind of test in addition to our basic objective. How do we want to handle this? Just go in and start wrecking stuff? Or do we want to 'unite and strategize' and stuff, get all tricky? I mean, the island isn't that big- I can go cause a distraction and try to draw some of the guards or soldiers or whoever. Or we can just play game of who can make the biggest boom..."

Marlyssa Xenos

Marlyssa adjusted her shades - Earth's sun was a yellow white star (instead of a proper orange one), so it gave out more UV than she would like.

A slow flick of her antennae gave her a quick overview of what was around her.

Many humans of many scents. Different plants. Traces of sulphur dioxide.

"Oh, right. An active volcano. Does anyone remember Pompeii ?

Oh well. At least I am working as the press, so it won't be too unusual if I am asking questions.

But criminals are paranoid, and don't like people asking questions.

So all I have to do is be careful about what I am inquiring about, and at worst, I won't have to go looking for the criminals : they will come looking for me !"

After a few moments of thought, she tried looking for the casinos, or gambling of any kind. Wherever there is much money being moved around, they'll be crime and/or a story to write about.

Sandra scanned her assigned team. Stealth was not their forte.

"I admit to being confused on the unity and strategy thing. Not my usual style but as my father often says, you're never too old to learn something new. I'm looking forward to being up close to a volcano. I wonder if they built a secret lair inside? That could be fun to investigate." Flamebird mused as she stepped towards the transport pad.
