Wow, I had no idea there was a Durlan Green Lantern! Talk about point-costs through the roof. :)

(Sort of like that Young Justice cartoon character who had a Reach scarab, *and* was a Martian!)

Power Loss (Yellow)- Green Lanterns must pass a Will Check in order to use their powers against the colour yellow.
Power Loss (Out of Energy)- Power Rings must be recharged via their Lanterns occasionally, and will run out of power after extended use.
Power Loss (High Levels of Power)- Green Lanterns must pass Will Saves to bring their power effects any higher than their natural Will Save +2. This includes Blasts, Move Object & Force Fields.
Responsibility (The Green Lantern Corps)

Total: Abilities: 42 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 115 / Defenses: 6 (172)

-Rookie Lanterns are those guys you see in Basic Training, being called "Poozers" by Kilowog, or those guys you see getting their heads randomly blown-off in big background scenes (Galius Zed's big-head race is highly-prone to this fate, since they're recognizable). They're unprepared for most battles, but still have the raw potency of a Green Lantern ring. Problem being, most of their Will Saves are so low they have a chance of failing a great many of their higher Power Feats, meaning they most usually go for +7-9 Damage on any Ring effects. Physically, GLs are expected to be in good shape, and most of them will have basic investigative skills. Even a crappy GL can hit PL 12 if he REALLY needs to (mostly with Area Effects- their highest Blast is at PL 11, and their Defenses don't go above PL 10 ever- read any Geoff Johns-written book and you'll see why).

B’OX- Sector ??- PL 12 (173)
Powers:
Features 1: Is A Box [1]
-The iconic B’ox is most notable for the fact that he is a box.

GREET- Sector 3443- PL 12 (182)
Skills: Expertise (Chef) 20 (+21) [10]
-Of course there would be a master chef of the universe on Oa. Apparently his sector must be REALLY quiet, because I can't imagine why a fully-fledged Power Ring-toting guy would be relegated to schlepping worm-burgers.

"In loudest din or hush profound
my ears hear evil's slightest sound
let those who toll out evil's knell
beware my power, the F-Sharp Bell!"

ROT LOP FAN- Sector 911- PL 12 (174)
Created by:
Alan Moore & Bill Willingham
First Apperance: Tales of The Green Lantern Corps Annual #3 (1987)
Powers:
Senses 2 (Radius, Ranged Touch) [2]
-Rot Lop Fan comes from an interesting one-off by Alan Moore, who posited the interesting question: What would a being with no eyes perceive the GREEN Lantern Corps as? Based off of various species of cave fish and amphibians (like the Olm), this guy was from a black and lightless void in a remote section of space. Evolving without the need for eyes, his species cannot perceive color, and so when Katma Tui came to recruit him to the Green Lantern Corps, he was confused. With no concept of color, he couldn't comprehend what a lantern was, nor the color green, and they couldn't be translated by the Power Ring. And so Katma instead translated it to the notion of sound- figuring green was close to a pleasing "f-sharp", she instead inducted him into the F-Sharp Bell Corps. He has appeared in a handful of background scenes since then, but is largely defined by this Moore story.

Other Minor Green Lanterns:
AA: A female stone-person who resembles a male. Frequently argued with Hal Jordan, who was in charge of deciding potential recruits to the GLC, but Hal respected her for this and chose her for membership. Disliked the obedience expected of her and quit, joining the Darkstars. Hasn't appeared in years.
ADARA: Light green skin. Was depowered when the Corps was destroyed, and tried to steal Kyle Rayner's ring. It failed to work for her, and she died "feeling useless".
AHTIER: Chose Bruun as her successor and the mother to her child as she lay dying.
ALIA: Her entire homeworld was destroyed by the Unimaginable, which she had to contain in a sphere made out of her own energy form. This resulted in she herself being imprisoned on Oa- Valor (Mon-El) appeared and saved her, defeating the Unimaginable himself.
AMANITA: Mushroom-like alien. Said to be older than the Guardians themselves, and has knowledged of all the wonders of the universe.

Image

ARCHON Z'GMORA: Archon was killed fighting a being named N'Gon, and destroyed his Power Ring so it wouldn't fall into the villain's hands. He called Hal Jordan, to whom he was on unfriendly terms, to stop the villain, and Hal fell into the same trap that killed Archon. He managed to separate his physical & spiritual forms from each other using his ring- robbed of possessing Hal's full power, the villain lured in Superman, but Hal reconstituted himself and warned the Man of Steel, and the two defeated the villain together.
ARX: Has a muscular body and a head like an "ookpik" (owl-like face on a deer's ass- like a Jackalope). Very competitive and combative, but was still a rookie. Killed by the Sinestro Corps when they sprang their leader.
ASH: A vampire-hunting purple guy who allied with Saarek. Both were killed by Black Lanterns.
ASH-PAK-GLIF: Organic rock-being. Often leaves his Sector to chase the agents of Darkseid.
ARKISS CHUMMOCK: A non-combatant from a warlike planet, he found his people's raiding parties defeated by a GL, whom he himself defeated using a yellow battlesuit. He was then selected to be a Green Lantern, and ate the GL's remains to honor him as a worthy opponent. He then put a stop to the war himself. However, his actions led to him being put on trial by Malet Dasim- he was put on probation when it was decided he wasn't a BAD Green Lantern, just an odd one with strange customs. He was then put under Dasim's care to better learn their ways. He sacrificed his life to defeat the villain Maaldor, who had stolen the power of the Central Power Battery- the remaining six GLs pooled their power into his ring and he made a suicide run against the villain- both hee and Maaldor were killed.
---
B'DG: Another chipmunk-like H'lvenite like Ch'p- he is the first alien GL encountered by Simon Baz, and instructs him in the use of his Power Ring. He has actually been around longer than Ch'p ever was, despite being a backgrounder.
B'SHI: Monkey-like alien who dies during an invasion of Apokolips.
BLOOBERT COB: A random backgrounder given a name and history as "fanon", later made canon by a writer. Was captured and killed in cold blood by Durlans & Khunds.

Image

Comics: Where even ladies made of stone are hot.

BRIK: Organic rock-being, but like... hot. Apparently had a crush on Hal Jordan.

Image

BRIN: A white horse-guy. Was forced to retreat from first contact with the Spider Guild, and two other GLs arrived to fight them back. Brin was forcibly retired by the Guardians, and instead of one of his children replacing him, it was their robotic nanny, T-Cher, who was chosen! Brin has since died of natural causes.

Image

BROKK: A sphere with many tentacles, Brokk is used as an "ambulance", transporting injured Corpsmen to medical facilities.
BYNAI BRUN: Horned grey-skinned lady. Blamed the Corps for the death of her husband at the hands of the Manhunters, but later joined them to fight Manhunters herself. Alpha Lantern.
---
CIMET TAFU: Looks like a bug. Was though to have been killed by a "Mad God", but resurfaced and shared what he learned with the Guardians.
THE COLLECTIVE: A now-sentient collective biomass. Can easily spread out, making its Sector one of the safest in the universe.
CHTHOS-CHTHAS CHTHATIS: Lumpy-headed guy. Invaded Ranx with Guy Gardner. Later died.
---
DALOR: Tomar-Tu's Sector partner- a fuzzy guy with pointed ears. Accused of abusing his power, he became a recluse and cannot be found.
DKRTZY RRR: Sentient mathematical equation (this was an Alan Moore character, wasn't he? *checks* YUP). Defeats enemies by erasing their minds as it enters them- this is controversial to the Guardians. Has yet to make an actual appearance.
DRIQ: Killed by Sinestro, but repeatedly returned in an undead state until Sinestro was executed in the '90s- he then fell dead. Reappeared during Blackest Night in control of half his body, helping out John Stewart.

Image

DROXELLE: Blue-skinned lady with white hair. As a rookie, she disobeyed a direct order in the line of duty and this resulted in the deaths of several civilians. After a suspension and nearly committing suicide, she found the strength to forgive herself, then later helped in the psychological testing of Hal Jordan.
---
EDDORE: Amoeba-like being.
EKRON: Giant floating head piloted by a smaller alien- one of his eyes became the Emerald Empress's weapon, the Emerald Eye of Ekron. Dies fighting Lady Styx, flying her into a Sun-Eater.
---
G'HU: Pink guy with two long tentacles for "hair". A prison guard on Takron-Galtos who singlehandedly stopped a prison break when he'd been taken hostage. Well-liked by Salaak and Voz (naturally, given he's the Prison Warden), but a backgrounder.
GLIBBERQUIP: Another aquatic guy with a fishbowl full of water over his head. Alpha Lantern. Commanded to blow up his own head when Cyborg Superman took them over.
GPAKK: A pink blob encountered by Guy Gardner. A great escape artist, as you might expect.
GRETTI: Blue-skinned guy. Part of a travelling caravan of "space gypsies" (their term), and thus won't stay in one place, roaming from sector to sector. This annoys his partner Green Man, but Gretti always filed his reports on time. Killed by Larfleeze, whose summons tore him apart and subsumed his identity.
---
HARVID: Older mustached guy. Retired after arresting his serial killer brother, but rejoined when he escaped captivity.
HOROQ HNOT: An Alpha Lantern, killed with the others.
HRAALKAR: Pink, round-headed guy. Alpha Lantern.
---

Image

KAYLARK: Looks like a beautiful white woman. Pretended to be a power-mad GL during a test of Hal Jordan's psyche, but became fearful of him when she learned he was possessed by Parallax.
KHO KARHI: A Khund Ambassador's daughter chosen for her sense of justice and compassion.

Image

KRAKEN: Apokolips-born warrior. Became an Alpha Lantern soon after her debut, but was quickly taken over by Granny Goodness. Framed Hal Jordan for Orion's murder, but was found out and arrested.
KRISTA X: Undercover psychological-assessment officer.
---
LAN DIBBUX: Hostage negotiator. Was saved by Hal Jordan when he was a rookie, so is still always on Hal's side.
LARVOX: Asexual being from a planet where all are part of the whole. Can only speak via the ring. Became one of the Darkstars when the Corps fell, but returned to active duty.
LEEZLE PON: A sentient smallpox virus, mentioned once or twice in passing and defeated the Sinestro Corps sentient plague known as Despotellis.
---
MARKOT-FIVE: Weird-looking orange guy with a tentacle mouth. Enjoys monitor duty.
MEADLUX: Psychologist who studies other Lanterns.

Image

MEDPHYLL: Plant-headed veteran Lantern. Later joined the Darkstars.
MOTHER MERCY: The mother of Mongul's infamous Black Mercy plants- she ultimately chooses the Green Ring (over a Sinestro Corps. one) and fights against him. Basically a Plant with high-level Affliction.
---
NAUTKELOI: Requires water to live- has a glass helmet filled with it. Often a backgrounder.
NORCHAVIUS: Sculptor of the Corps from a low-gravity world, so has to make up for his weaker body.
---
OKONOKO: Orange-skinned alien who retired after training his replacement, Deeter.
OLAPET: Plant-based alien who carries a seedling in her pouch- she frequently dies and is reborn into the seedling, which gains the ring.
OLIVERSITY: Possesses venom.
OPTO309V: Slain by Kalibak during 52.
ORLAN: Once possessed by an energy being, but saved by the Phantom Stranger.
---
PALAQUA: Pink-headed guy. Was believed dead for a long time, but returned, telling only the Guardians what had happened.
PATHAVIM SETH-OTTARAK: Weird lumpy guy. Died in his first appearance, trying to clean up a crime-ridden world. Jack T. Chance took over for him and was more successful.

Image

PENELOPS: Octopus with a giant central eye. Is the only one of his people not to fear the light (light caused them pain). Veteran re-recruited to the modern GLC.
PENN MARICC: Hot-headed braggart who frequently clashes with Guy Gardner, as you might expect.
PERDOO: Chicken-like being from a world of cowards- many died at the mere approach of the ring, due to fright. Considered clinically insane by the others of his race for having bravery.
PROCANON KAA: Enemy of the Khunds.
---
QURINA VINT: White-skinned lady-cop who kept the ring after an emergency recruitment to help in the war against Krona.
---
R'AMEY HOLL: Pretty orange butterfly-lady. Part of the "Corpse" black ops squad- executed a Khund warrior then hypnotized Guy Gardner so he forgot about it. Has wings, pheromones and other tricks.
REEVER: A GL of Xanshi.

Image

RELOK HAG: Black-skinned Centaur from a world ruled by the Dominators for years. Alpha Lantern.
REMNANT NOD: Opposes political oppression. Killed by Atrocitus.
RORI DAG: The first Green Lantern.
---
SENDRINA: White-skinned girl. Cthos's partner and was disturbed that she wasn't there to help him.
SHILANDRA THANE: Orange girl. From a world decimated by nuclear war, she now acts as a mediator between warring parties. Dislikes the Guardians' rule that lethal force is authorized.
SHORN: Green-headed octopus. Desk Sergeant of the GLC and friend of Salaak.
SKIRL: Fuzzy cat-guy. Born during a war, and now acts as a mediator.
SKYRD: Weird tentacled creature. Was once rescued by Tomar-Re and swore a life-debt to him- released by Tomar-Tu, Re's son.
—-

Image

T-CHER: Robot who cared for the children of Brin, a GL. When Brin retired, T-Cher was his replacement.
THULKA RE: Died saving the GLs from an army of powerful snakes called the "Silver Serpents".
T-O-T-U-K: Thousands of years old. Preferred dying in battle to retirement, but was ordered by the Guardians to select his replacement. However, he finds a hive-mind called the Collective, who lack a collective intelligence. When he finds out they require an ensnared lifeform to serve as their basis, he sacrifices himself so that the Collective can become sentient enough.
TURYTT: Replacement for Ke'Hann, and looks similar (big red guy with bony growths on his body).
---
VARIX: Blue-skinned guy. Took his friend's ring when he became mad with power and became the new GL of his Sector. Later joined the Darkstars when the Corps was destroyed, then became an Alpha Lantern. Ultimately sacrificed himself upon realizing that the Alphas were actually a force for evil- his suicide attack killed the rest of the Alphas.
VENIZZ: Opposes eugenics.
---
WISSEN: An elderly GL who became a God and ruler of his planet, which was thereafter peaceful, but stagnant. So many generations had passed that he had forgotten the Corps, and so was humiliated when three GLs flew down to save his world, which was close to exploding due to a problem in its core. His people now knew he was a fraud, and he was filled with shame, but one of his former followers confessed they still needed someone with his powers, God or not.
---
XAX: Grasshopper-like alien. Befriends Hal Jordan, but dies during the Crisis. Another going by the same name is later seen, but is killed and used as an earring by a villainess.
---
ZALE: Boodikka's replacement on the Bellatrix Bombers, and later was also made a GL. She was punished for bailing on the Corps to help the Bombers- her Power Battery was removed, and so she was dependent on Boodikka (now an Alpha Lantern) for power.
ZGHITHI: Snake-like alien.

Ah, OK. I couldn't remember if the Ultraviolet Corps was actually a thing or a parody because it was so dumb. I forgot about the Weaponer, too.

Alpha Lanterns

Post by Jabroniville »

THE ALPHA LANTERNS:
Template:
Protection +2, Weaken Powers 12 (Extras: Area- 120ft. Burst +3, Reaction +3) (Limited to Green Lanterns) [74]
-The Alpha Lanterns were created as a form of "Internal Affairs" for the GLC, and were a big, BIG sign that the Guardians were no longer trustworthy, and had dishonest intentions. Worried about how rebellious their own Green Lanterns were being, the Guardians offered a band of GLs to be mutilated and transformed into Super-Cyborgs- the Alpha Lanterns. With inhuman faces (their natural heads were replaced with metallic, frowning faces with artificial glowing eyes) they were able to drain the power of Green Lantern Rings. John Stewart was asked to join them, but they were "most disappointed" when he turned them down- instead, it was a big group of somewhat-important backgrounders- Boodikka, Varix, Kraken, Green Man & Chaselon. They are pretty quickly taken over by Cyborg Superman, who forcibly transforms other GLs to Alphas, wanting to see if Ganthet can turn them back and thus, turn HIM back to human as well.

-Eventually they are freed, but the typical "Internal Affairs" tropes from Cop Movies come into effect- they chase down Stewart when he is forced to kill a fellow GL to prevent him from giving up information that would doom Oa. They sentence him to death, leading to a mutiny among the Corps that only stops when they forcibly drain every Ring they can find. They are prepared to kill Stewart (and fellow mutineer Guy Gardner), but ultimately one of their own stands against them- Varix realizes how far they've fallen, and frees the Earthmen and turns on the other Alphas. He commits suicide, exploding in a way that kills every other Alphan.

-Ultimately, the Alpha Lanterns were... pretty boring. They turned a bunch of unique characters into faceless nothings and mere strawmen for "Authority Without Thought", as they attacked without context and were completely inhuman. Effectively, they were like the Manhunters before them, and were uninteresting in the same sort of way. Their whole thing trying to execute Stewart just made them look even DUMBER, and the Guardians insane for even allowing this to happen- Varix seems to have a heroic turn by saving the day, but this wipes out several unique characters in one swath.

I know I've said it before, but I REALLY hate how the Guardians have been treated in the main DCU for the last few decades. Johns seems to have some kind of issue with mentors and authority figures, doing some pretty terrible things to the Guardians and the Wizard Shazam, making them untrustworthy, arrogant and unlikable.

I realize the Guardians had a somewhat spotty record before, but no one seems to realize that the Guardians give the Green Lanterns authenticity. The only reason we accept you have an army of people wielding a weapon that makes each individual stronger than the entire population of most planets is that there's a guiding hand behind the organization dedicated to doing the right thing.

The whole notion of the Guardians is that they have this collective guilt over what one of their number did, seeing the chaos and destruction that act did to the universe, that they dedicated their entire lives to protecting the other races of the universe. The Green Lantern ring could be seen as the embodiment of the Guardian's mission.

The Guardians do not step in and fix things themselves, imposing their own will onto the universe. Instead, they give the best and most worthy of normal people the power to not only save themselves and to save others.

They Guardians do not set up governments, do not interfere with politics and do not make policy. They empower people to fight threats they cannot stop themselves, they oppose people who would deny others their right to choose their own fate, and basically defend people's right to choose. That the Green Lantern Ring runs on willpower could be seen as symbolic of the Guardian's mission of protecting free will, of ensuring that normal people have the dignity of their own decisions.

The Guardians empower their Lanterns with weapons that, while they can be used with subtly, work best out in the open, shining a bright light for all the world to see. The Lanterns themselves are the bravest, boldest and most imaginative members of their species. While they can fight in the shadows, they work best out in front of everyone, operating openly and honestly in a way that inspires others with their courage and heroism.

The Guardians lastly give their Lanterns a weapon that rewards imagination and creativity. They are given something with virtually limitless possibilities, where the limits are primarily all in the users mind. When they use their ring well, they inspire creativity and innovation in others, a sense of wonder and awe. The Lanterns very existence inspires others to be more creative and innovative.

Turning the Guardians into some fearful old bureaucrats that need to be overthrown is a massive misrepresentation of what they should be, IMO. The Guardians have spent literal millions of years defending sentient free will, as well as spreading hope, freedom, courage and innovation throughout the universe. Those are worthy things.

It honestly feels like Johns made the Guardians into what they are solely because he dislikes the idea that maybe, just maybe, someone might actually know better than the hero about something, and that the hero being responsible to a higher authority might actually be a good thing.

Ah, OK. I couldn't remember if the Ultraviolet Corps was actually a thing or a parody because it was so dumb. I forgot about the Weaponer, too.
No its real, it first appeared in Justice League Vol 4 2. It was one of the Seven Hidden Forces Of Creation that was introduced after the destruction of the Source Wall in the current comics. Supposedly it is the buried primal emotions, such as hatred, guilt, self loathing and it dominate its ringbearers (controled by Umbrax) and is infectious with its spread.

Other Seven Hidden Forces Of Creation that were introduced at the same time were the Still Force (counter to the speed force), the Tear of Extinction (counter to the life force), the Void Wind (counter to the Sphere of the Gods), the Sixth Note (counter to the Dimensional Superstructure), the Black Apple (counter to the Collective Unconscious) and Faithlessness (counter to the Faithfulness).

They have also added two more Forces that were dormant behind a Force Barrier that Zoom got the Flash to break, the Sage Force (enhance the intelligence of its conduits to super-genius levels as well as granting them psychic powers such as telepathy and telekinesis.) and the Strength Force (revolve around land, gravity, density and mass shifting; all of which is centered around the Force of Motion. Through it, the user can change their relativity in relation to its strength output.)

And here I thought the heaviest drug use in comics happened during the 70s.

I know the effort is to be high concept and what not, but this honestly sounds like the kind of overly complex stuff Hickman or Aaron would put out while doing their best Grant Morrison impression, when I think even Morrison would take a step back and go "This is all getting a bit ridiculous, mates".

I mean, clearly the Angst Force and Up-Our-Own-Butts Force have been running wild in the DCU for a while, and we need the Optimism Force and Self-Awareness Force to join up and free the Fun Force before the Bankruptcy Force arrives to instigate the 52 issue crossover crisis with tie-ins and multiple covers.

Complications:
Power Loss (Will)- Green Lantern Rings depend upon the Will of their wielder. If Kilowog fails a Will Save (such as from being intimidated or mentally-screwed with), he will drop Constructs and Force Fields.
Power Loss (Out of Energy)- Power Rings must be recharged via their Lanterns occasionally, and will run out of power after extended use.
Power Loss (High Levels of Power)- Green Lanterns must pass Will Saves to bring their power effects any higher than their natural Will Save +2 (in Kilowog's case, 13). This includes Blasts, Move Object & Force Fields.
Responsibility (The Green Lantern Corps)
Responsibility (Bolovax Vik)- Kilowog's homeworld was destroyed during the Crisis, and a temporary-replacement (and his entire species) were wiped out by Sinestro later on. As a communal species, Kilowog needs to be in a crowd.

Total: Abilities: 74 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 23 / Powers: 116 / Defenses: 9 (244)

-Kilowog's probably the most important and recurring non-human Lantern of all time, coming in during the late-80s as the GL Corps' key trainer. He bitches out the "Poozers" on a regular basis (making him very annoying if you read the Trades instead of single issues, as he says that word like 7,000 times), but is ultimately a father figure to them, and he's one of the toughest all-around Corpsmen. He's come up in various other storylines assisting GLs and other heroes as well, and he was the most important non-John GL in the JLU series too. He witnessed the death of his homeworld, then its replacement (the weirdness of the GL Rings allowed him to carry the souls of his entire species within it for a period)- the latter permanently killed his homeworld's 17-billion people. Poor Kilowog nearly went insane, but was helped by fellow GL Arisia, to whom he apparently decared his love. He then joined the U.S.S.R. (as his race was Communal) before finding their system flawed- but not before creating their defense force, the Red Rocket Brigade. He was thougth-dead during Emerald Twilight, having been disintegrated by an evil Hal Jordan.

-Kilowog is resurrected following the reintroduction of Hal Jordan, by Kyle Rayner & Ganthet- he immediately goes Back To Basics and continues training new GLs. He frequently appears, and is sort of the "Fifth Lantern" after the main group. He has accomplished many heroic things, such as personally defeating his Sinestro Corps counterpart, Arkillo, in solo combat. Geoff Johns gave Kilowog further backstory- his own trainer was the GL Ermey (based off of the infamous Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket, who used the word "Poozer" to mean "Useless Rookie", but when Ermey was fatally-wounded on a mission where Kilowog helped save several GLs, he told Kilowog he had the makings of a great leader. As it stands, he is the single most important Green Lantern to comics other than the six human ones, featuring in the most stories. Pretty impressive for an '80s baby.

-Kilowog is surprisingly BY FAR the most expensive standard Green Lantern I've statted (though Hannu, The Green Man & Sodam Yat are all more expensive, owing to greater racial abilities). This is because he's ALSO a super-genius scientist/builder type (even though that hasn't been shown at all since Hal Jordan's rebirth), in addition to having superhuman strength, toughness and a Power Ring. All of that combined makes one ridiculously powerful hero, easily equal to Hal, Kyle, John & Guy.

Responsibility (The Green Lantern Corps)
Relationship (M'nn'e)- Ch'p keeps his status as a GL from his girlfriend.
Enemy (Doctor Ub'x)- The evil doctor ruled H'lven for a time- Ch'p led the resistance against him and chased him off.

Total: Abilities: 36 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 142 / Defenses: 8 (205)

-Ch'p is another "Iconic Background Lantern", despite only really existing for ten years- he was created in 1982, and was killed off in 1992. Most interestingly, he was a tiny cartoon squirrel alien, showcasing the "Willpower" basis of the Green Lantern Corps- how better to show that willpower was everything than by having the tiniest of aliens be a worthy member? Ch'p was the leader of the resistance on his homeworld of H'lven when it was invaded by the evil Doctor Ub'x and his "Crabster" army. He was captured and was in his cell awaiting execution when one of the Guardians of the Universe offered him a Green Lantern Ring- he was thus able to escape and defeat Ub'x's army, and became a full-fledged GL.

-Doctor Ub'x returned many times, and once figured out Ch'p's secret identity. Kidnapping his girlfriend M'nn'e and holding her hostage, the villain demanded Ch'p's Power Ring. Ch'p did as ordered, but left a command in the ring ordering it to restrain Ub'x shortly after he handed it over. Ch'p and M'nn'e were soon wed. However, the Crisis on Infinite Earths led to a bizarre situation- Ch'p discovered that in the restructured continuity, he was supposedly killed several years before, and M'nn'e had since married his best friend D'll (yes, Ch'p and D'll). Now without a past (ie. the writers wanted to finagle a situation to have several GLs live on Earth), he went to live with the other GLs on Earth for a time as one of the few beings who remembered the Pre-Crisis time. Ub'x soon returned, also remembering the past timeline, and he attacked- he nearly died after his "Sucker Stick" had failed, but Ch'p, realizing that the two of them were alone in the universe, saved Ub'x and the two buried the hatchet and became friends.

-Ch'p was one of the few GLs whose rings still functioned after the destruction of the Central Power Battery on Oa, but failed to rebuild his life on H'lven. He was about to hang himself (hahaha JESUS CHRIST), but his friend Salaak appeared and convinced him to live up to his responsibilities. However, in Green Lantern: Mosaic (John Stewart's short-lived book), he was patrolling the patchwork world that was now on Oa and was run over and killed by a yellow truck- the true nature of this manifestation was never explained. It coulda been a Sinestro construct or whatever, but who knows?

-Ch'p's hilariously tragic story is truly bizarre, and I can't figure out if they were making it darkly hilarious on purpose, or just going out of their way to make such a goofy character "work" by making it serious and tragic. Like, the fuzzy little squirrel GL tried to HANG HIMSELF? What is THAT about? But the character went from a recurring GL on a supporting cast to basically a trauma conga line and was then unceremoniously killed off- comes off like a victim of "Comics R SERIOUS!" when much of the industry was chasing dignity and "adult" stories and really just made a lot of stuff that wrecked what comics was about.

-Ch'p is your standard Intermediate GL. Experienced and handy, but not as powerful as Hal, Kilowog, Katma and the others. Plus he's a squirrel.

Torquemada also had one appearance in a GL Corps Quarterly, a comic book written by Ron Marz before he became a primary GL writer. He had an apprentice named Giselle who was very... 90s in how she was depicted as a background character.

She had the unfortunate curse of a "solid gold kiss" that Torquemada was attempting to help cure and reverse. It was her only appearance, of course. Why would anybody in the comics industry want a mixture of Scarlet Witch and Rogue to use as a character?

Geez, Ch'p didn't even need a power ring, any fan of DuckTales knows that he's packing probably one of the most powerful weapons in the DCU right there, right next to the Book of Destiny.

-One of the most important early Green Lanterns seen was Tomar-Re (sometimes "Tomar Re"), from the Sector next to Earth's, 2813. A Xudarian, he monitored the part of the universe that included Krypton, and was one of the first GLs encountered by Hal Jordan, eventually becoming an iconic backgrounder- he was in many ways the prototypical "Alien GL"- a humanoid body shape, but an immediately recognizable face. In his case, a lizard-like head frill and a birdlike beak really made him stand out. Apparently it was Tomar who told Hal of the Guardians of the Universe- he brought Hal in via a distress call against a threat Tomar couldn't defeat- Hal recharged Tomar's GL ring and the monsters were sent off. Tomar was a scientist who created an early warning system in his Sector, and later discovered that Sinestro had an orderly Sector because he was ruling it- he suggested Katma Tui, leader of the rebellion on Korugar, to replace him.

-There's some backstory that Tomar discovered that Krypton was due to explode, but was unable to save the populace- his attempt to absorb the radiation dooming the planet via some material called "stellarium" caused another star to go nova. Finally, Tomar-Retired as part of the GL "Honor Guard" and mentored many new GLs, but was finally killed during the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Presumably part of the edict that each book "sacrifice" a character to two to that story's tremendous death-toll, numerous Lanterns died when the GL Corps faced the Anti-Monitor and his Weaponeers of Qward when he attempted to utilize the Central Power Battery. Tomar-Re was fatally-wounded by GOLDFACE of all people, and ensured that his Ring found a worthy successor- as John Stewart was wearing Hal's original ring, Tomar's Ring found John and the "proper" rings were restored. Years later, Tomar's son Tomar-Tu would replace him as Green Lantern of Sector 2813.

-Guys like Tomar-Re were good "supporting cast". Tomar was never terribly powerful, but was clever and a FANTASTIC backgrounder, given his outlandish appearance. A good example of the kind of guys who seemed disposable at the time (I mean, he's a seventh-tier character, right? Not exactly well-developed or important), but the endless deaths of characters like him had a negative effect on comics as a whole, kind of a "Death By a Thousand Cuts" kind of thing.

-Tomar-Re is a pretty solid GL, but not very powerful compared to the top dogs (he's two PLs below Hal, Kilowog, etc.)- his key advantages are his intelligence, wisdom and experience, making him pricier and more well-rounded as an investigator and hero than the standard Ring-Slingers.

-Tomar-Tu debuted in 1992 and was introduced as the long-lost son of the deceased Tomar-Re- thankfully, they didn't have to do the "he had a son he just never talked about for 25 years" thing because Tomar-Tu only learns of his origins in his debut. He arrived having had his Xudarian hometown thrust into Oa's "Mosaic World" along with cities from other planets. He bravely went to the Earth town for help, and was rescued from a violent mob by Hal Jordan- later, he risks his life to save Hal's from an insane Guardian of the Universe. The Mosaic World continued to be a shit-show, but Tomar proved his bravery many times- he and another alien there were made Green Lanterns as a result.

-Unfortunately his run as a GL was short- only a little while after he got his Ring, Hal Jordan went insane and the Corps was destroyed. Tomar-Tu was even a prominent "death", having his ring stolen and being left to die floating in outer space. Thinking only to "kill Hal Jordan...", he was presumed dead for years, popping up by surprise post-Rebirth, crashing down on Earth. But he quickly got told what was up and kind of just became a "Background GL" in group scenes, sometimes fighting the evil Romat-Ru, another Xudarian. He is later imprisoned for deliberately executing Romat-Ru, feeling he could not leave this depraved criminal alive to escape again. He regrets having to do it, but refuses to back down. The Controllers learn of this, and recruit him for their newly-reformed Darkstars.

-So overall, Tomar-Tu seems like a pretty basic Legacy Character and a good backgrounder for the early '90s stuff, but as soon as they made him a GL, he kind of disapeared into the background. Geoff Johns certainly never used him much- his distinctive appearance just makes him a "Galius Zed/Chaselon"-like figure in those iconic group pics.

-Tomar-Tu is a basic "Rookie Lantern", albeit with a higher Will Save, given his bravery even without powers. He never does anything particularly big in battle, though.

Re: Jab’s Builds (Jessica Cruz! Alien Templates! Kilowog! Ch'p!)

Ch'p's fate seems needlessly meanspirited, as he often gets killed off in various media (Injustice killed him off in their comic) as if to say "LOL, our super serious universe with talking gorillas and combat kangaroos is way too mature for a talking squirrel". And then Guardians of the Galaxy comes out with a talking racoon as one of their heroes and suddenly they just look like a bunch of assholes.

Hmm. Is this after Hal broke up with her? Looks like Arisia has a Ch'p on her shoulder.
My Amazing Woman: a super-hero romantic comedy podcast.

When the most powerful super hero on Earth marries an ordinary man, hilarity ensues.
