Yeah these guys are kind of interesting in just how obviously "Filler" and "Mook-y" they are. Like it kind of looks like something the MHA creator usually draws, but isn't quite as imaginative or unique. Kinda like what a fan-created character would be like, lol. Like, you have a guy whose power is making rockets, or a guy with a sword-hand, or Magneto-Lite- it's all very passable, but is really more of a standard-issue Marvel or DC character, not "so he has engines in his feet" or "this girl has assorted frog-like powers".

20 Abilities, 24 Powers, 2 Advantages, 11 Skills, 13 Defenses = 70 Character Points

About: Another member of Wolfram's Crew, Daigo is a short pudgy man with black hair and who is always shown with closed eyes and a serious expression. His quirk, which I took the liberty of naming Monstrous Form, allows him to transform into a huge muscular purple monster form that greatly increases his strength, speed and durability, making him one of the strongest combatants in his group.

Throughout the movie, Daigo is shown to be a stern and serious. He appears together with Nobu in the 80th floor of the I-Island tower, where they are keeping guard of the elevator going up, blocking Midoriya's group's path. The situation ends up escalating when Bakugo and Kirishima, who were lost and unaware of the tower's takeover by Wolfram, arrive at the scene and ask the pair for directions, forcing Todoroki to step in and block the villains with a wall of ice and helping the rest of the group escape, with only him, Bakugo and Kirishima staying behind to fight Nobu and Daigo.

After Nobu breaks the ice with his quirk, Daigo quickly activates his to enter his monster form, prompting Todoroki to try to stop him with an ice attack, but Daigo manages to break it with his great strength. As combat progresses, Daigo focuses his attacks on Bakugo, but can't keep up with his agility, as Bakugo is able to dodge his attacks, slowly tiring Daigo out with his explosions before finishing him off with a Howitzer Impact super move, knocking him out for the rest of the movie, presumably until the authorities reach the building and capture him and Nobu.

Daigo is probably the most meh guy of the entire group, due to how boring his power is and how little we are shown of his personality. I think he is a reference to Bruce Banner, with the whole small seemingly weak guy who can hulk out, but he has the added benefit of not diminishing his intelligence while in his monster form. Despite how boring he is tho, the animation of his fight against Bakugo is AMAZING, like, straight up the scene of the movie that ended up standing out the most to me due to how awesome and fluid it looked, even more so than the final battle against Wolfram.

Build note, I gave him a low attack bonus with really high damage, since he was able to break through Todoroki's ice pretty easily but ended up losing due to not being able to hit Bakugo, so it seemed fitting. Bakugo chipping away at his Toughness slowly before finishing him off with a big hit also makes sense with the Parry/Toughness ratio I gave him, I think.

Outfits: Daigo, like the rest of his group, wears a military tactical uniform, with a black pocketed vest, a pair of grey pants, a black undershirt and a pair of black tall combat boots.

Complications

Motivation: Loyalty: Nobu is very loyal to his boss Wolfram and will follow his orders.

26 Abilities, 14 Powers, 7 Advantages, 15 Skills, 27 Defenses = 89 Character Points

About: Nobu is the final member of Wolfram's Crew, an agile fighter with a strange weasel-like appearance and green hair. His quirk, which I took the liberty of naming Displacement, allows him to expand his hands into strange huge webbed claws that he can swing to unleash a powerful blast of wind that displaces anything it touches towards him, an ability he mostly uses to attack from afar and destroy obstacles by displacing parts of it away, while dodging incoming attacks with his impressive mobility.

Nobu appears together with Daigo, with both of them guarding the elevator on the 80th floor of the I-Island tower together as ordered by wolfram, which ends up blocking Midoriya's group's path. As the group starts planning on how to get around them, Kirishima and Bakugo end up entering the 80th floor, clueless about what is going on and asking both of them for directions. This pisses Nobu off, and he replies by activating his quirk and attempting to fire a displacement attack on Kirishima, which ends up being blocked by Todoroki, who traps him and his partner in ice to allow the rest of Midoria's group to escape as he, Bakugo and Kirishima stay behind to fight Nobu and Daigo.

Nobu uses his quirk repeatedly to destroy Todoroki's ice wall, breaking circular parts of it away by displacing them, allowing for them to escape and prepare for the fight. As the fight progresses, Nobu ends up engaging Todoroki for the most part, using his Displacement and his great speed to escape from his icy area attacks, easily overwhelming the student. However, when he notices Daigo's defeat, Nobu attacks Bakugo, who allows for the palm of his hand to be hit, displacing his explosive sweat onto Nobu's hands, which Toidoroki then detonates with a flame attack, knocking Nobu out and finishing the combat.

Nobu probably has the coolest quirk among his group and the most unique design by far, tho I don't really get how he has superhuman speed and the ability to jump so high, since he isn't really using his quirk to do that or anything. IDK, anime logic I guess. The way he ends up being beaten is pretty clever too, which was pretty cool.

Build notes, I gave Nobu a small Toughness and high Dodge and Parry as well as Evasion and Move-by Action, representing the way he was fighting Todoroki and stuff, and also explaining him being knocked out with a single powerful attack while being able to dodge most things with ease. He ends up complimenting Daigo pretty well, one being a ranged attack with high dodge and low toughness and the other being more tanky and melee focused.

Outfits: Nobu, like the rest of Wolfram's crew, wears a tactical black uniform with a black high-neck undershirt, a black tactical vest, a pair of dark grey pants and tall black boots.

Me, dressed as a Dai Li agent: "There is no first My Hero Academia movie in Solar's thread. Solar's thread keeps us safe."

Jokes aside, nice job, especially with the limited information on the Two Heroes villains.

I'm looking forward to the Shie Hassaikai! Especially Overhaul and Rappa.

During Japan's golden age of heroism with the rise of All Might and the increase in the efficiency of heroes, criminal activity and especially organized crime, which were extremely prevalent in all For One's shadow empire during the age of villainy, began to weaken and become less prevalent as Japan's police and heroes actively working towards reducing their numbers, with only supervillain groups being able to continue to practice crime with effectiveness, driving groups like the Japanese yakuza into the shadows of the underworld and forcing them to cease mass scale organized crime.

The Shie Hassaikai is one of those impacted yakuza groups, previously being an incredibly powerful organization back when the yakuza was prosperous, now reduced to a much weakened version of itself. It was originally lead by an old man who valued the morals and strong ambition of a leader within organized crime, and who would often adopt orphans and people in need into his group, caring for them and giving them a chance at life, such as Chisaki Kai, known by his villain name of Overhaul, a young man who has a powerful quirk that allows him to reassemble and disassemble anything he touches, and Eri, a child with a temporal manipulation quirk who was abandoned by her family due to she accidentally using it on her father and rewinding his body back in time to the point he got unmade, with the old man putting Chisaki in charge of taking care of her due to similar nature of their quirks.

As time went on, wanting to find a way for the yakuza to regain their seat of power in the world of crime, Overhaul elaborated a plan involving using his quirk to repeatedly dissect and cure Eri to try to use parts of her body charged with her quirk to try to create a drug that would devolve the target's body into not having a quirk, to create a powerful quirk nullification drug. He would then sell that drug, along with the illegal quirk enhancer Trigger, in the black market to both heroes and villains, profiting off of their fights and further fueling their conflict, giving the Shie Hassaikai great power over the criminal world.

Upon hearing Overhaul's plan, however, the old man was horrified that Chisaki would be willing to inflict that much torture and trauma to a child like Eri in order to achieve his goals, and told him he would not allow him to move on with that plan, which confused and annoyed Overhaul greatly, as one of the main reasons he wanted to regain the yakuza's power was to make the old man proud so he could give back to him for adopting and raising him (man, between this and Shigaraki, I hadn't really realized how big of a thing daddy issues were with the series' bad guys until now, LOL). This prompted Overhaul to use his quirk to induce a coma on the old boss, planning to reawaken him once he had completed his plan so he would see the great results of it, and taking control of the Shie Hassaikai so he could implement his scheme.

Overhaul would then often use his quirk on Eri to try to create the drug, causing great pain and injury to her and keeping her prisoner within the Shie Hassaikai's headquarters, and initially succeeded on mostly creating temporary and weakened versions of the desired drug, only having 6 doses of a permanent and effective version of it, but circulating the weaker version on the black market anyways in an attempt to gain some profit, arousing the suspicion of the pro heroes to some degree. As this went on, Eri eventually attempted and succeeded in an escape due to the trauma of being repeatedly cut open. In her escape, she ended up running into Midoriya and Lemillion, who were patrolling the streets under Nighteye's orders, which lead them to meet up with Overhaul, who followed the girl and took her back to the HQ, rising once and for all the suspicion and motivation of the pro heroes, who acted on a group controlled by Sitr Nighteye, as what Overhaul was doing to Eri was brought to light, prompting the Shie Hassaikai arc, where the hero team raided the yakuza headquarters to rescue Eri and put an end to Overhaul's plan, eventually resulting in Chisaki's defeat and capture and the downfall of the Shie Hassaikai, tho at the cost of a few hero casualties.

The notable and named members of the Shie Hassaikai are Overhaul, the young germophobic boss with a powerful quirk that allows him to reassemble anything he touches in however way he wants, Overhaul's right hand man, Chronostasis, another orphan taken in by the old man who has an almost brotherly relationship to Overhaul and has a power that allows him to paralyze anyone he hits with the arrows in his hair, and Mimic, the group's general manager who is a hot-headed large muscular man with a power that allows him to "dive into" and control any object that is smaller than an average fridge, which allows him to walk around by using his Mimicry quirk on a plague doctor plush toy. There are also the eight elites of the Shie Hassaikai, The Eight Bullets, but we'll talk about them a bit later on in the thread.

The Shie Hassaikai is INSANELY popular in the fanbase, probably due to how much background we get on them, how prominent most members of it are in the story during their story arc and how cool and unique their abilities and designs are, tho I suspect that their cool plague doctor aesthetic is also a big reason for them to have become such popular characters.

Complications

Motivation: To Reform the Yakuza: Raised as a member of the now decadent yakuza, Chisaki’s ultimate goal is to return the yakuza to its former glory, before All Might and the age of heroism almost completely destroyed organized crime.

Motivation: To Cure Society of Quirks: Overhaul believes in the theory that suggests that quirks originated as a disease in rats and mice, which disgusts him extremely due to his germophobia. As the main part of his masterplan to return the yakuza to its former glory, he wants to “cure” people of their quirks, and plans to use Eri’s blood and cells to be able to do so, even if that means subjecting her to extreme pain.

Germophobia: Overhaul has extreme germophobia, to the point of having physiological reactions, like growing skin hives, when touched by other people or put in contact with dirty environments.

Must Make Skin Contact: For his quirk to work, Overhaul must make direct skin contact with his hand on his target, meaning that if he is unable to use his hands for whatever reason, he can’t use his powers. Since he usually wears gloves, he reshapes or destroys them during his attack in order for his quirk to take effect.

Time Limit on Resurrection: It’s been heavily implied that Overhaul cannot take long when attempting to resurrect others with his Reassemble power, otherwise, although he can reform their body perfectly, he cannot bring them back to life. This time limit isn’t clear, though it can be presumed that he can’t take longer than a few turns.

22 Abilities, 129 Powers, 10 Advantages, 11 Skills, 26 Defenses = 198 Character Points

About: Overhaul is a young, silent and smart yakuza boss who is the main villain of the Shie Hassaikai arc. His quirk, Overhaul, allows him to disassemble and reassemble all matter he touches in whatever way he wants to, something he uses in combat by completely healing any wounds he and his allies suffer, turning his enemies to particles by touching them and to attack from a range by reshaping the ground into spikes. Additionally, as a last resource, he can use his quirk to fuse himself with others by disassembling both of them together and reassembling them as one.

As a young child, Overhaul was found in a trash dump by the old Shie Hassaikai boss, who adopted and raised Chisaki himself and raised him as part of the yakuza, which made the boy become very grateful of him growing up and wanting to one day be able to repay him for all he had done, and made him extremely proud and defensive about the yakuza in general, despite being only a shadow of what it previously was as an organization. At some point growing up, he also developed severe germophobia, always covering his lower face with a medical mask and even getting skin hives when being touched by others. This germophobia was also what caused him to have a very negative view of quirks as a whole and hero society, as he became aware of the popular theory of quirks starting out as a disease in rats and mice that somehow spread out to humans and altered their DNAs so they granted them powers, all of this making Overhaul see society and heroes as sick and diseased, and further boosting his desire to erase that.

Eventually, concerned with the rage and hatred for society as a whole within Chisaki, in an attempt to make him more empathetic, the boss decided to put him in charge of taking care of Eri, an orphaned young girl who was abandoned by her family after manifesting her Rewind quirk, which made her revert her father's back in time to the point it was erased from existence, making her mom call her a cursed child and abandon her. The boss believed the similarities in Chisaki's and Eri's quirks would make him simpatize with her and take a parental role toward her, making him less obsessed with his view of the world as sick, but this plan ended up backfiring, as Overhaul instead only saw the girl as a tool and started to formulate a plan to regain the yakuza's lost influence on the crime world.

Overhaul, when investigating Eri's quirk and how it works, comes to the realization that it seems to able to rewind human genetics and DNA, which would mean that through selectively using and channeling Eri's quirk, he might be able to devise a way to permanently "devolve" the quirk factor of others so he could "heal" the world he sees as sick, and find a way to regain yakuza's power while doing so. Due to this, he formulates his idea of harvesting and studying Eri's blood and body parts, and healing her woulds with his quirk in the process, to find a way of making a drug that targets the individual's quirk factor directly and reverts it away, making that person quirkless. He then wanted to distribute that drug as a weapon to heroes and villains alike through the black market, and also sell Trigger along with it, an illegal quirk enhancer drug, fueling the conflict between both sides further while also heavily profiting from it.

When Chisaki proposed that idea to the boss, however, the old man was horrified and disapproved of it, pointing out the cruelty and inhumanity of experimenting and torturing a young child in order to accomplish this goal, which confused and angered Overhaul, deciding to put the boss in a coma temporarily so he could take charge of the Shie Hassaikai and proceed with his scheme, hoping to later revive the old man when the plan was completed.

As Overhaul took charge of the Shie Hassaikai, he made it so facemasks, mostly plague doctor masks, were part of the organization's outfits, symbolizing his worldview of living in an infected and sick world and stuff. He proceeded to carry on with what he had planned and would regularly experiment with Eri and harvesting parts of her body and blood, leaving her greatly traumatized and scarred, but getting significant results, being able to make six doses of the quirk nullifying drug that were permanent and effective and several doses that were weaker and temporary, proceeding to sell those on the black market and arm the lower level thugs with them, which started attracting the attention of the Japanese pro heroes.

Chisaki ended up running into Twice from the League of Villains while out on the streets, who invited him to talk to and potentially join up with the League, which Overhaul saw as an opportunity to intimidate them and maybe have them join his ranks. Upon meeting in their hideout, however, the conversation quickly went south, as the League members refused to become simply his lackeys and attempted to attack him, leading to a confrontation that resulted in Magne's death and Mr. Compress losing an arm to Overhaul's quirk, with the conflict stopping when other Shie Hassaikai members entered the hideout and revealed the League to be outnumbered, leading Overhaul to take his leave but say that his proposal was still up and for the League to consider it. This, later on, resulted in Toga and Twice infiltrating the Shie Hassaikai, seeking to undermine them and get revenge for Magne and Compress.

Eventually, panicking due to her torment, Eri managed to run away while her assigned caretaker was distracted, forcing Overhaul to have to chase after her into the streets and bumping into Midoriya and Mirio. As they started talking, Midoriya noticed Eri's notable fear and panic in the presence of Overhaul and questioned him about what he was doing to the girl, with Overhaul then preparing to kill the pair not to rise suspicion, but Eri, upon noticing Chisaki's murderous intent, ran back towards him so he wouldn't harm the pair, an interaction that would ultimately lead the heroes to learning about the horrors that the girl was suffering and for them raiding the Shie Hassaikai hideout later on. Upon returning to the headquarters, Chisaki used his quirk to kill Eri's former caretaker for his mistake.

Prepared for the heroes' raid on the headquarters, Overhaul places his troops spread throughout the base strategically to hold the heroes off and try to take them down while he, Eri and some yakuza members he took as bodyguards proceeded to go to the lower floor of the building to escape through the underground passages dug there, presuming he would have more than enough time to escape while the yakuza held off the heroes. However, due to his quirk easily allowing him to navigate the base uninterrupted, Mirio managed to ambush Overhaul and fight off and defeat Nemoto and Sakaki, the guys charged with protecting Overhaul. He then proceeded to start fighting off against Chisaki and Chronostasis to rescue Eri.

Mirio initially heavily takes the upper hand in the fight, as he neutralizes Chronostasis quickly and successfully uses his quirk to not only dodge Overhaul's attacks and attack him, but to also protect Eri from Chisaki's reckless attacks. Eventually, however, Mirio gets hit by a quirk removing bullet shot by a reawakened Nemoto, proceeding to turn the student quirkless and allowing Overhaul to hit him with his attacks, reshaping the groud into spikes to hit Mirio, as the hero makes his last stand protecting Eri. Despite being heavily wounded, his efforts managed to buy enough time for Midoriya, Sir Nighteye and Eraser Head to arrive at the scene and assist with the fight, taking over for Mirio, leading to the final stage of the fight against the yakuza boss.

As the fight continues to unfold, Eraser Head ends up paralyzed by a reawakened Chronostasis, who them moved him away from the fight so his quirk couldn't interfere with Overhaul anymore, and Midoriya continues to fight off against Overhaul while Sir Nigheye stays behind protecting Eri and Mirio. In desperation, Chisaki uses his quirk to fuse himself with Nemoto, transforming into a weird four-armed monstrous creature able to use both his own quirk and Nemoto's, as well as becoming much stronger, continuing to fight off against Midoriya and starting to overwhelm the boy.

Sir Nighteye then interferes with the fight, telling Midoriya to switch out with him and go take Mirio and Eri to a safe location while he fights off against the empowered Overhaul. As the fight goes on, however, Overhaul manages to gain the upper hand and pierce Nighteye with a spike of rock, deathly wounding him and incapacitating him. Chisaki then goes back to fighting off against Midoriya, who holds Overhaul back while Mirio and Eri continue going away, and the young hero is horrified by Nighteye's wound. As they fight, Overhaul uses Nemoto's quirk to manipulate Eri into coming back to him, saying that Midoriya's death will be on her hands if she doesn't comply and forcing her to admit she doesn't believe him to be strong enough to beat Chisaki.

Just as this is going on, suddenly the ceiling starts to collapse as Ryukyu and her interns, Uraraka and Asui, arrive at the scene, prompting Overhaul to reshape the floor into a pillar of stone so he can escape with a captured Eri. Midoriya gives chase, however, leaping into the air and yelling at Eri for her to believe in him, making her quirk awaken instinctively and rewinding Overhaul back into his normal form before leaping towards Midoriya, who grabs hold of her. Upon reaching the surface, in a final desperate attempt to escape with Eri and continue his plan, Chisaki fuses with the body of Katsukame, who was left there incapacitated by Ryukyu, and whose massive body allows Overhaul to turn into a gigantic building-sized monster, yelling at Midoriya to return Eri as both prepare for a final showdown.

As Eri's quirk continues to be activated, Midoriya is able to go all out with his One For All quirk, immediately having his destroyed body be rewinded back to a healthy state as he fights off against his gigantic opponent. Throughout the fight, Overhaul repeatedly uses his quirk to change his form in order to deliver more powerful and effective attacks against the hero, but that ends up proving futile, as Midoriya's immense unrestricted power proves to be too great to be overcome, leading to Overhaul's defeat with a powerful punch in a very climactic scene, him using the last of his strength to touch Eri and force her quirk to unfuse him and Katsukame. Afterwards, he ends up being captured by the police, finally ending his cruel schemes and granting Eri's safety, and the ultimate downfall of the Shie Hassaikai.

Later on, while he is being transported into Tartarus, Japan's most secure prison for villains, the League of Villains ends up intercepting his transport, taking the quirk destroying bullets with them as they retrieved them from the police car. As they confront Overhaul, he looks at them with lifeless eyes completely devoid of any energy, as Shigaraki and Mr. Compress proceed to each use their quirks to remove one of his arms, getting their revenge for their fallen teammate and friend.

Overhaul ended up appearing one more time later on in the story, as he is one of the villains to break out of Tartarus when All For One invaded the prison and liberated them at the end of the Paranormal Liberation Front arc, where we see that Overhaul continues to be in a catatonic and lethargic state, needing to be lead by Lady Nagant to move around as the escape is taking place. He is taken with Lady Nagant when she went to fight Midoriya, being promised by her that she would allow him to see his former boss if he helped her out. After Deku manages to beat Nagant and capture both of them, he tells Chisaki how disgusting a human he thinks he is due to him thinking the one he owes an apology to is his old boss and not Eri, but that he will make sure he gets to see his former boss out of mercy.

Overhaul is a great villain, with a fearsome and incredibly powerful ability, an interesting worldview and philosophy and is very effective in making you hate him and want to see him get defeated, as he tortures an innocent child and kills a beloved character. I remember seeing a while back about how Overhaul is a deconstruction of the archetypal Japanese villain, as he starts out with a more modern incarnation of it, as a silent, cruel and calculated yakuza boss, but then recedes back into a monster similar to bad guys from sentai shows when he fuses with Nemoto, with multiple clawed arms and a sharp beak, to then turn into a gigantic kaiju-like monster, arguably the oldest and most iconic representation of classical Japanese bad guys in media.

As for build notes, I struggled a bit with making his quirk overall, settling on making it a dynamic array with a few extra points for him to better combine effects, as he often uses multiple effects of his quirk at the same time, like reshaping and damaging things simultaneously or healing others right after dealing damage. His whole "unmake other people with a touch" attack was really tricky to do, I considered doing it as damage linked to an affliction with "transformed into particles," like I did with Thirteen, but that felt awkward. Jab ended up helping me out with this one, as he recomended doing it just as Damage+Weakenh when I asked about it on the Discord server, since that's just simpler and more straight forward, and I think that was the better way of handling this, so thanks for that. Other than that, this build is VERY OP in game terms, since he can pretty much heal away any damage almost immediately and can easily kill others with his "death touch" power, with the only weakness of that being his low-ish accuracy.

I also did builds for his fused forms, since doing that as a straight up power would be awkward as hell, so those are included later in tho post, naming them by my preferred fanbase-given name of the monster forms, "Monsterhaul." Those are mostly just buffs to his physical stats and some other additional effects, like additional limbs and such. I also decided to include Katsukame's quirk on his form fused with him despite him not using his powers while in that form, since he seems to be able to use the quirk of whoever he has fused with, as shown with when he transformed with Nemoto.

Outfits: Overhaul's villain outfit is a black formal shirt with a pair of black formal pants and a black belt. He wears a pair of white shoes, matching the white medical gloves he usually wears, and a green bomber jacket with purple fur on the collar. He also wears a white tie and his signature plague doctor mask.

Fused Form: While in this form, Overhaul is fused with Katsukame permanently, and can only be separated from him and bring him back by finding a way for his form to be undone, such as through Eri’s Rewind quirk.

34 Abilities, 153 Powers, 11 Advantages, 11 Skills, 28 Defenses = 237 Character Points

About: A build representing Overhaul when he fuses with Nemoto Shin, or, as the fanbase likes to call this form, Monsterhaul! This is a slight upgrade to Overhaul's base form, bumping him up to PL 9.5 defensively and granting him some more melee attacks. However, he doesn't really seem to become more accurate while in this form, just stronger and more resilient. He also gains the ability to use Nemoto's Interrogation quirk while in this form, being able to force others to answer his questions truthfully, tho he probably doesn't have the same degree of skill in reading, manipulating and breaking others through this as Nemoto (represented by a lower Deception and Insight skills).

About: A build representing Monsterhaul's final form, the multi-armed kaiju-like monster of when he fuses with Katsukame. This is a significant power boost, as he becomes PL 13 in this form. He doesn't really use any of his quirks while in this form, preferring to just use his melee attacks against Midoriya while reshaping his body to reform his monstrous forms into huge fists and the like (represented by Power Attack, All Out Attack and Accurate Attack). I considered doing a power for him reshaping himself and stuff, but I don't really know what power would be appropriate for that, do I decided not to bother.

Huh, so are these guys like "Second Season Foes" or something? It's a pretty neat team design, I'll give it that. A team of supers based around old-school criminal organizations is good, too- less "Grand Design" like the other villains, and more standard-issue baddies. At least, so far.

Their boss here seems like a truly sick villain, too- no "You can see his side of it" or "He has noble intentions but is too evil in his manner"- this is just some straight-up monstrous killer. The writing seems to go out of its way to ensure that NOBODY empathizes with him, to the point of torturing a small child and having ideas so evil that even a YAKUZA BOSS is disgusted and disappointed. The whole "The boss is in a coma" thing is interesting and leaves potential for another story.

Interesting that he's set up against the show's other villains, almost contrasting them as a sicker, more evil and merciless character... and killing a popular baddie can only make him MORE hated. This has the effect of making the LoV seem better and "Cooler", sort of like how The Sopranos often contrasted Tony Soprano with more vicious and evil mobsters. So like "The LoV are EVIL... but they're still better than THIS guy!". MHA even seems to go all-in on this, with the heroes finally defeating him in the epic throwdown... while the LoV are the one to give him his "just desserts"- by being evil men themselves, they can deliver the horrific mutilation the heroes are too good-aligned to do. So the villain gets what he deserves, but the heroes' hands are clean. That's clever.

PS glad I could help with the power, haha. Oftentimes the more complicated powers are just straight-up "damaging stuff but better".

Excellent job with Overhaul! I think you made the right decision by making his fusions with Nemoto and Katsukame separate builds, too; that just seems simpler and cleaner. As you said, he was a great villain because he was an absolute bastard. His defeat by Deku and Eri was fantastic to watch, but even more satisfying still was the League getting their revenge on him. Looking at just this one character's build, it's made me realize that season 4 has been my favorite season so far.
I'm looking forward to your next Hassaikai build!

My Hero Academia is probably my favorite overall manga/anime series at the moment, and it does a really good job of making you hate it's villains while sometimes injecting things that make them sympathetic. Shigaraki is someone who you hate for most of the manga/anime, but over time you see how he became the way he is, and it becomes clear how much his current state has been manipulated by All For One. This makes the already hated All For One even more loathsome and hateful.

Yet even in a series with One For All, Overhaul stands out as one of the most hated villains I've ever encountered in fiction. And it basically all boils down to Eri.

I'm not a parent, but I am an uncle to my brother's three little girls, one of whom is my godchild. I'm extremely close to my brother and his girls, since he's a single dad and I try to help out and spend time with them where I can. I see his girls a minimum of three times a week, help out with their school, do dinner with them, etc.

Seeing bad things happen to children has always been a quick way to get an emotional response out of me. Becoming an uncle just heightened that a great deal. So learning what Overhaul did to Eri and actually getting to see how that trauma affected her . . . well, you know that scene where Midoriya and Mirio realize the full extent of what Eri has been put through and it's this absolute gut punch? It's pretty much like that. I pretty much cheer every time something bad happens to Overhaul. Every time Mirio or Mirodiya punched him, when the jerk lost his arms, everything. To quote the Heavy Metal movie: "Hang'ngs too good fer 'im! BURN'NS TOO GOOD FER 'IM!"

It doesn't help that Eri was basically designed to trigger paternal instincts in people. It's almost impossible to look at her and not want to protect and / or comfort her.

Seriously, being willing to torture Eri should be grounds for immediately being declared some new alien species, because you clearly aren't human.

Ares, I always enjoy reading your comments, because you pretty much always make fantastic points and have great ideas. This might be my favorite comment of yours, though, for how spot on it is.

Heh, well, I don't want to make myself out to be brother/uncle of the year. My parents are just as involved in my brother's life and in helping out their grandchildren. My mom in particular watches them when my brother has to work and they aren't in school, we all help out with their homework, we all do things together, etc. We often all eat together as a family on those nights we hang out, usually at least twice a week, more when it's his weekend with them. My brother has a very stable support system that I'm just a part of.

I was mostly just trying to give some kind of context for why I get a visceral reaction to seeing children abused and why Overhaul in particular pushes my buttons. It's also why scenes with Eri are some of the scenes where I get the most emotional, and why the arc of her recovery is so heartwarming to me. I'm not going to lie, that scene in the festival where Eri smiles for the first time just had me in tears. It really felt like Midoriya was right and that Eri hadn't been truly rescued until that moment, and it was only then that she was really safe. And oh my God when she was gushing afterwards, I had the biggest, stupidest smile on my face and felt no shame about it. And that scene where she shows up for Christmas and gets the holidays confused . . .

It's stuff like that which makes me appreciate MHA so much. It's so wonderful to see a superhero setting where emphasis is actually placed on protecting innocent people, on saving children, and not on the author using these amazing characters as a platform for their politics or the agenda of the day. Just heroes saving people from the monsters of the world.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I agree wholeheartedly about Eri, too. The concert scene was so touching.
I watched the series with some friends, and during non-dramatic moments where I didn't insist that they shut up, we made jokes about a lot of things. (Out of enjoyment, not mockery or anything like that.) In season 4, they all said, "Yeah, I can't really make any jokes about Eri. She's too pure, and her story's too serious for it."
That was from the guys who used their jokes to make Nezu into a drug addict and the biggest war criminal in history, hahaha
So you know that Eri really got them in the feels.

I mean, technically they are fourth season foes, haha, but yea, they are definitely the second big villains team and "boss fight" of the series for Midoriya.

The series for sure doesn't try to make you sympathize with him in any way, since the whole Shie Hassaikai arc you get angrier and angrier with Overhaul and his escalating evilness, which makes it really satisfying to see Mirio and Midoriya beat him up by the end of the arc. However, if for no other reason than to play devil's advocate, I think there is SOMETHING to be said about him possibly fitting with the whole "He has noble intentions but is too evil in his manner," since the main thing behind all he was doing was trying to make his father figure proud of him and try to pay him back for all his kindness, even if in his way of trying to do so he crossed every possible line and went directly against that paternal figure. I feel there is some sympathy to be gained for him through that angle, but honestly, that sympathy is easily outweighed by how much you end up despising his actions.

Honestly, I kind of forgot how great season 4 was until I started working on Overhaul's bio. Considering how Gentle Criminal's arc is also a part of that season, it easily has some of the more memorable moments in the series.

Eri is for sure the most integral part of the Shie Hassaikai arc, since the stakes of the arc strongly depend on the reader being emotionally invested in her and wanting to see her rescued. In that sense, it sort of puts you in the same emotional space as Midoriya, Mirio and the other heroes, making you cheer for them even more, which is pretty smart.
