Aldan frowns, that door was on the other side of the building from the Smith's and the fire fighting barrels of water and buckets of sand. He concedes though.

"Any who want to go out that way, go for it. Might be smart to split up if they're waiting to ambush us, just get around to the smithy quick."

He himself takes a crowbar from the tools they found and pries out the blockage from a window.

strength: 1d20+0 17
He'll leap through the opened window rolling in case of incoming arrows or bolts.

In an instant the boards covering the back door explode outward in a hail of splinters and broken chunks of wood.

Meanwhile at the window a quick but skilled application of force (and a crowbar) quickly pops board after board out of the way, revealing a new exit in only seconds.

The area outside the building is quiet, without a soul in sight, and the only assault waiting you is the sudden brightness of the sun after the time spent in the dark building.

Tyragorn
HP: 21 AC:18

Tyragorn ran back around to the front of the inn, looking to see who was safe. In his mind, the safety of his companions was more important than saving an abandoned building. He yelled through the window Aidan had just vacated. "Does anyone need help getting out?"

With new avenues of escape opened, Georgia was quick to follow her companions out of the building. "I'm good Tyragorn, thanks for asking. Now time to raise an alarm. Just a warning folks, It's going to be loud."

Georgia focuses her innate magic into her throat and lungs, Amplifying the volume of her voice threefold. She takes a deep breath and shouts out at the her full, not inconsiderable before being magically amplified, volume:

"FIRE!!!! FIRE AT THE ABANDONED INN!"

OOC: Thaumaturgy to amplify Georgia's voice by up to three times for 1 minute. I'm going to roll Persuasion to encourage the towns folk to get their asses in gear to come help 1d20+6: 17

Outside
Going out the front window is not a terribly pleasant experience, being close enough to the fire to be uncomfortable, far enough from the ground to be jarring, and right over some brush. For anybody not experienced in diving out windows this might be a safe, if unpleasant experience.
For people with a history of shady dealings and second story work? Hardly any trouble worth mentioning.

A quick jog to the smithy reveals four water barrels which are, on average, three quarters full. Each one currently weighs around four hundred pounds, making them less than helpful. A couple of large buckets lay around the work area, some filled with water, others not. Another barrel sits nearby full of oil for quenching hot steel.
In one corner is a half of a barrel that is full of sand.

When Georgia starts yelling there doesn't appear to be an immediate response, but considering the distance to the nearest buildings it might be a minute or two before anybody shows up.

Jessica lets out a cheer as Tyragorn destroys the wooden barricade, and follows him as he moves around to the front of the building.

Inside

The only person remaining in the Inn is Zasio.
So far there is no smoke or fire. It it wasn't for the corpses and the crackling of fire the place could be quite soothing.

Aldan

Aldan dimly recalled that using water wasn't the best to put out a fire. He scrambles, first for any back up blacksmithing apron and dons it. He'll then look for buckets of sand to take and slosh on the open flame.

A quick glance reveals a couple leather aprons sitting by one wall, in various stages of disrepair. One is fairly new, another is covered in burns and showing a lot of wear, a third appears to have been in that same state before somebody started cutting strips of leather off of it.

There aren't any buckets that have been filled with sand, but there are empty buckets and the sand seems to have been turned over recently. As it isn't packed down it will very fast to load a bucket.

Aldan

Aldan grabs the new one to don, and drapes the worn one over his arm. He starts scooping a bucket of sand. His intention is to scatter sand over part of the fire in order to have a safe place to stand then beat out other parts of the fire with the worn apron.

Zasio Blackthorn:
Objects of Interest: Goodberries (2 - each heals 4 hp)

Zasio follows after Jessica and Tyragorn out the door of the burning building, but while the others concern themselves with the fire the ranger looks around for any sign of those responsible for setting the blaze.

Tyragorn
HP: 21 AC:18

Seeing that his companions were safe, Tyragorn followed Aldan's lead in obtaining items that might help put the fire out, specifically looking for a shovel in case they needed to take action to prevent the fire from spreading.

Zasio

The hard packed dirt road makes your task nearly impossible. There are a number of footprints already trailing everywhere which could belong to the person you're trying to find.

After a period of looking you find a set of prints that you believe might belong to the culprit. By looking at the size, style, and depression you would conclude it was probably a man of average size and above average weight.
It's extremely hard to track the footprints as they retreat away from the inn and back out onto the road, but you'd suspect that the firebug when back across the bridge to the west.

Everyone

Tyragorn, armed with a heavy shovel, skips the need for sand or water by simply hurling pieces of turf directly onto the flames to smother them.
Aldan's sand buckets quickly aid the process, and soon what little oil is left is covered by dirt and sand.
A few moments after you started you see people start arriving. The suspicious family you ran into on the way into town is one of the first to arrive, they linger back for a few seconds unsure of how to respond to situation. The carpenter, looking more confused that anything arrives next.
Sortly after Zakarias, the mayor, and his bodyguard Travers arrive at the scene huffing and out of breath from the run. Zakarias starts shouting, and a bucket brigade is started as Grover and the two men with him arrive.

Soon enough the fire is largely put out, though the deck and front of the inn would need extensive work, the building still stands.

Grover storms over, tossing an empty bucket off towards the smithy,"What in the hells is going on here?"

Zakarias isn't far behind the constable, "Who in the world would start a fire in this weather? The entire town could have gone up."

Aldan

Aldan looks slightly mussed but still the height of elvish pride as he wipes a smear of dirt from his brow.

"Gentlemen, my companions and I were inspecting the old inn for purchase and we discovered goblins and lizard folk inside. Their bodies and evidence of the battle should still be in there. Or... if they somehow got by in the confusion of the fire..." Aldan flourishes* the still-oozing, scaly finger he'd severed and held it out for inspection.

"After our battles we discovered some entity or entities had set the main entrance ablaze. No doubt seeking to destroy evidence of this town's infestation and us besides." he says for the assembled. "It is mostly due to the actions of the brave Tyragorn here that your town is not more aflame." he gestures to the paladin.

Tyragorn
HP: 21 AC:18

"Someone was trying to kill us while we were searching the inn. Which was infested with goblins and lizardman."
Tyragorn leaned on the shovel while he caught his breath. "Your watch needs to be more vigilant as it looks like they were living among you for a while."

The family of paranoid farmers congregates off to the side shooting your group suspicious looks, something that only gets worse when Aldan produces the finger.
The carpenter stands watching the whole process glassy eyed, and after he realizes that nobody's really talking to him he turns to make his way back to his shop.

Zakarias reaches forward to take the finger only to have Travers snatch it up first. Zakarias shoots his bodyguard an annoyed look, but the guard ignores it as he examines the finger. After a moment he nods to Zakarias and offers the finger to anybody who might want to look at it.

Grover, meanwhile, is fuming at Tyragorn's comment, "A whole nest of goblins and lizardman in the town and nobody's even noticed it until today? Sounds like a load of-"

"Well, they're right in there, correct?" Zakarias says, looking to Aldan for confirmation before continuing, "Just look for yourself."

Grover grumbles under his breath and he storms off towards the inn. His two buddies glance at each other, shrug and follow, with Travers following them to the doorway.
The grim faced bodyguard's eyebrows raise as he looks inside the building, looking back to Zakarias and nodding.

"Inside the town," the mayor curses, "How did they manage that? And what were they up to?"
