Anyone else following this? Somehow Notre Dame has caught fire, and as I type this, is still burning. 400 firefighters are trying to contain the blaze. So far there are no reported deaths, but the roof and spire have collapsed. It sounds like most of the structure has survived so far, but wow.

The history , the art that could be lost. It is truly heartbreaking.

Jesus. Sure glad I went there in 2016.

From what I've read, it sounds like several statues and pieces of art were removed for some renovations that were going on. It's insane to think of this 850 year old cathedral surviving various revolutions and World War II, only to apparently get so damaged by what they're at the moment considering an accidental fire.
I don't want to even imagine the kind of trouble someone will be in if they find out this was somehow deliberate.

Contractors and tradesman are often ridiculously casual and cheap- Edmonton had a 130-year old building down the street from me catch fire over a fire that was created the same way.

A travesty, but I hope it can be repaired even if scars will remain.
Am I dead? Am I alive? The answer may surprise you!

I am angered by the people that cheer this event. At the very least, a beautiful building, dedicated to bringing comfort and meaning to people's lives was destroyed.
