Doctor Ivan Romanof
Ivan was always the problem kid. His parents had established in an area of russian immigrants on the westernmost quadrant of West End, which also segregated from other kids of his age at school. He didn't learn english until he was 10! Of course that had a negative impact in his early years, he was not socializing with the other kids, spending his time confined and tinkering with whatever he could get his hands on. His obsession became his profession, and he took his studies with the same obsessive nature he had taken everything before. To pay his studies he made repairs in the neighbourhood, offering his services for some dollars. He quickly became a legend among the old russian immigrants, as he repaired the treasures of old they have brought with them years ago. Even without noticing it, he had obtained degree after degree, achievement after achievement.
But time is a cruel mistress.
It came the time that his parents needed him and he wasn't there. And he lost them, the only people in the world he related to.
Ivan was devastated, and unlike most people, he took the bitterness of life and focused it into his work. It was perhaps that fact that turned him into a deranged mad scientist when the national research council rejected his project of robot assisted care for the elderly on moral grounds. Outraged, he went so far as to threaten the councilmen and got himself fired from his university position. He started to lose it all, his house, his things, each thing drawing him closer to the edge.
Eventually he moved to his parent's house in the old neighbour. Things have, naturally, changed in West End, crime had overrun certain areas, and it was not the quiet neighbourhood of the outskirts it used to be when he was young. After the death of his parents, he had neglected the upkeep of the house, not renting it, just kept it close. It was to painful. But now he had to, there was nowhere else for him to go. Nowhere to plot his revenge and build the robots he had proposed, but not without some significant improvements. He chuckled and outright laughed thinking on the faces of those fools from the council. He had managed to salvage most of laboratory equipment and quickly set to work, improving the the old house and turning it into a concealed high tech workshop. However, he soon realized he would need food and more money to coast the costs of the robot army. He didn't have an army of combat droids to do his bidding and break in a bank yet, so he had to do what he did for money when he was a kid. Repair stuff. There was still some old people from the time he was young around, and so he found it not to hard to get some money quick. Surprisingly enough, he found that he now had made friends with these people. Mr Brown had offered him to care for the house garden in exchange for the repair Ivan had done to his kitchen. Mrs Sven was delighted that her grandmother's sewing machine was working again, so she offered Ivan a month of free bread from her bakery. Even the younger generation was crazy about Ivan, he could fix their phones and their gaming consoles in minutes! He saved the parents fortunes, and found he was dedicating more time dealing with West End's needs than with building his robot army. In fact he had to redesign the prototypes as servants and maids rather than killer automatons, as his odd jobs had him outside the house most of the time, and the daily chores started to pile up.
But time is a cruel mistress.
And criminals are even crueller. The bag of bread fell from his hand, as he was stopped in his tracks in shock. Mr Brown was laying in the street, his lifeless eyes staring at the sky, before a policeman covered him with a white blanket. The other details didn't matter much to Ivan. He had another purpose in mind. To protect these people that had offered him their kindness.
Complications
Neighbours : Ivan cares deeply for his neighbours, and any of them might have problems that need solving, or be targeted to get to him by shady organizations
Too smart : Olev tends to think he is the smartest person in the room and is prone to offend people thinking that way
A few loose screws : His traumatic past has left Ivan a not very levelled person.
