A still photograph of Jane Seymour could perform better than Denise Richards.

Don't get me wrong, Denise Richards is cute as a button and has a decent sense of comedic timing... She's not the worst actress that I've ever seen, but in a film with Pierce Brosnan OBE, Robert Carlyle OBE, Robbie Coltrane OBE, and Dame Judith Olivia Dench, CH, DBE, FRSA... Well, hell, even Sophie Marceau seems out of place.

The World Is Not Enough has an astounding amount of talent both in front of and behind the camera given how weak the script is. Pierce Brosnan has a weird record as Bond, he's great in the role (the prefect blend of Connery's suave cool and Moore's cocksure charm hiding Dalton's cold-hearted killer), he works with some absolutely stellar co-stars (Sean Bean, Sophie Marceau, Michelle Yeoh, Judi Goddamn Dench), and yet the movies themselves are all kind of... meh. Great performers and excellent stunt work can only do so much to patch up a weak script.
I'm not terribly familiar with the James Bond series, but I managed to catch most of this one. Ms Richards is a competent actress. She's surrounded by greats, plus a legend. In that company, the film is going to focus more on everyone else, and her role is reduced very nearly to "decorative."

It's interesting to examine the relationship between actors, plot, and the quality of the outcome. Before the Star Wars prequels, Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman had great artistic reputations and an impressive portfolio each. Those movies appear to have torched their leads. Including the poor kid who played little Ani in Phantom Menace, who did a fine job as a child actor considering his challenging material, but got so much blame and backlash that he seems to want to never think of acting again.

I did write a review of the other major series to have a rotating lead actor, Doctor Who, as an example here, but I felt it was way too long and off-topic to post

Right idea, wrong spy franchise. We all know which spy invented the Smart phone.

There's two decades separating Live and Let Die from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, which is how most Americans were introduced to her. Live and Let Die was only her fifth role and only the second one she had a leading role in. Somewhere in Time or East of Eden were the only roles she had, prior to Dr. Quinn, that gained much attention outside of the U.K.

She's also one of those women who seems to look even better as she gets older. She's beautiful as Solitare in her twenties, she's gorgeous as Dr. Quinn in her forties, and I kinda want to send the Inquisition `round her place to investigate whatever forbidden sorcery she is using to look as good as she does nowadays as she's pushing seventy.
Yeah, Seymour is kind of a holy grail for MILF lovers, given how she noticeably improved with age each decade. I’ve seen bikini pictures taken THIS DECADE where she looks sexier than as Dr. Quinn, which was 20-30 years ago, now!!

Not to mention Dungeon Master extraordinaire, at least according to Vin Diesel and Karl Urban.

I think that it all comes down to a twofold problem. One are the scripts for sure, Goldeneye had a really interesting villain dynamic, but it was wasted under a crapton of other stuff. Two, Brosnan did a really good job, but had the bad luck of being the last of the "classic Bonds". when he came aboard the franchise was already showing signs of not being able to live up to its own legacy. It's no surprise that after he left they decided to do a "soft reboot" by finally remaking Casino Royal, which was the first Bond novel ever, but it only got an "unofficial parody adaption" starring a super-stellar cast with David Niven, Peter Sellers, Orson Wells, Ursula Andress and Jean-Paul Belmondo.
"You're right. Sorry. Holy shit," I breathed, "heckhounds.”

James Bond: And the other?

Tee Hee Johnson: Oh, the other's twice as simple. You just put your hand in his mouth and pull his teeth out.

Background:
Tee Hee Johnson, or simply Tee Hee, is an antagonist in the James Bond film Live and Let Die, as well as the novel of the same name. In the novel, he is a fairly minor character working for Mr Big. However, in the film, Tee Hee is portrayed as Dr. Kananga's brutal right-hand man and has a metal arm, replacing one which was bitten off by a crocodile. He's pretty much a straight forward thug, continuing the tradition of Bond films having a non-combat mastermind villain with a combat-focused henchman. But being able to crush Bond's trusty Walther PPK, his hobby of breeding and raising crocodiles, and just how damn cool Julius Harris looks in that red suit makes him one of the more memorable henchmen. Replace his prosthetic claw with a "proper" super-science cyborg arm and dial up his fighting skills to more comic book worthy levels and he'd be a fun henchman for a "Street-Level" super-villain to employ.

Real Name: Unknown
Known Aliases: Baron Samedi, "The Man Who Cannot Die"
Occupation: Voodoo Hoogan, Criminal
Education: Unknown
Date of Birth: Unknown
Base of Operations: San Monique
Height: 6'6" (1.98 m)
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Bald
Race: Human(?)
Identity: Secret
Religion: Voodoo
Relationships: Unknown
Legal Status: Unknown

Background:
Baron Samedi is a fictional character from the James Bond novel and film Live and Let Die. In the novel, Baron Samedi is a voodoo figure with whom Mr. Big has chosen to identify himself with to inspire fear among his followers. In the film, he was a separate character and henchman to Dr. Kananga. In the novel, Baron Samedi is described as the voodoo spirit of darkness and death but never actually appears as a character in the novel. Many people in Harlem and elsewhere believe Mr. Big to be a manifestation of Samedi himself. A belieft Mr. Big encourages for his benefit by keeping a Baron Samedi totem near his desk.

The cinematic Baron Samedi is among the most enigmatic villains James Bond has faced in the entire franchise. The character is an ambiguous one, and the audience cannot tell if he is the Voodoo god Baron Samedi himself or simply a human who has assumed Samedi's identity. Contributing to the mystery is the fact that Samedi seems to operate as an aide to Dr. Kananga aka Mr. Big, but is not entirely under his control. In one scene, for instance, as Kananga interrogates Solitaire (the film's main Bond girl), Samedi engages in an odd ritual of burning Tarot cards. The ritual seems to convey a sinister message to Kananga and Solitaire, and although it irritates Kananga, he refuses to put a stop to Samedi's card-burning. Bond appears to "kill" Baron Samedi several times throughout the film, but all of these deaths are revealed to be staged. For example, when Bond shoots Samedi in the head, it is revealed to be a clay figure instead of the real man.

Indeed, at the very end of the film, at the point when Bond typically has achieved total victory in the films and the camera fades to black while the super-spy debriefs the Bond Girl, we instead seen Baron Samedi riding on the front of a speeding train laughing demonically as the camera zooms in to focus on him while the credits start playing, further suggesting that he is in fact a supernatural character... Or is he?

The Bond version is how i always pictured the MnM version of Samedi.True,he's a possessing diety like Siren, but i tended to run him as trying to keep it mysterious just to sow confusion. All the times he was "Defeated" and supposedly died it turn out to be a bit of Stage Magic. My players HATED him with a passion....
