Final combat!

Post by Camus »

About to pursue Agent Owl, Grit find that he has become surrounded by water on all his sides! He helplessly tries to fight against the magically animated water, but to no avail. Starfish lifts the former guardian off into the hole in the ceiling and off outside. Nightstar observes gritting her teeth, and deciding to get Starfish out of the way, she concentrates a ball of energy in her hands, releasing a torrent of purple plasma towards the atlantean!

Nightstar attacks Starfish with plasma discharge, 21 to attack. If that beats Starfish's dodge, damage DC 25 fire damage applies.

Combat into:
Agent Owl 24 [-2 Toughness]
The Hand 15 [Fine]
Grit 12 [Fine, out an away for 3 rounds]
Starfish 7 [-3 Toughness, Fatigue]
Nightstar 6 [Fine, Dazed]
Alecto 3 [-2 Toughness, Staggered, Dazed, Fatigued, impending DC 25 toughness save]
Drone [Concealed]

The bolt hits the Atlantean squarely. She cries out with the pain and her eyes cloud over at the intensity.
Toughness: 1D20+10-3 = [7]+10-3 = 14
EDIT: Fail by 11, so failure by 3 degrees -1toughness, Staggered.

Next turn she'll be -4 toughness, Staggered, Exhausted

Alecto
HP : 0
Condition : -2 Toughness, Fatigued, Recovery action to remove Staggered

Alecto takes a moment to clear her head (and let a few internal organs return to their normal place after that punch The Hand hit her with).
But at least now she realized there might be a way to turn this fight around. Or at least improve the odds.

She used her ability to speak directly into people's head to inform Owl and Starfish of what she observed earlier :
"Those teammates of yours. They're wearing mind control necklaces. If you can remove or destroy them, they MIGHT return to their former selves."
Using Recovery to remove worst condition - Staggered. Can't do anything else, and is +2 to defenses until her next turn.
Secondary Effect of the Hand's strike will hit at the end of his turn. Could get ugly ...

Agent Owl
Hero Points: 0
Condition: 2 Bruise

The grapnel pulls Agent Owl up to the ceiling just in time to avoid getting crushed by Grit. "I'd thought you'd know me better by now Grit," Agent Owl talks down to the powerhouse with her usual deadpan. Thankfully Starfish manages, for the time being, to remove Grit from the battlefield, but he'd be back, a toss like that isn't going to hurt that guy.

But hopefully this'll buy them the time and breathing room needed to remove Nightstar from the field, and the crook had given them the info that might do just that, after all she too would be interested in seeing fewer combatants in play given her current state.

As the grapnel pulls her upward Agent Owl whips out and tosses her Owl Talons at Nightstar, while the Owl Drone fires its concussive blaster at Nightstar. Or more accurately, to the "jewelry" she is wearing around her neck! "Over here Nightstar! Unless you're too cowardly to test yourself against me!" at the very least if destroying the necklace failed she needed to get the girl's attention off of Starfish!

OOC
-------------
Owl Drone Free Action: Switch offensive array to Energy Blaster.

Agent Owl Free Action: Switch array to Owl Talons

Agent Owl Move Action: Use athletics 23 to move 60 feet, upward due to grapnel; man I'm going to wish that roll was for something else...

Agent Owl Standard Action: Defensive attack 5 throw Owl Talons at Nightstar's necklace, 13! Ugh... yep.

Owl Drone Standard Action: Team attack accurate with Agent Owl using Energy Blaster vs. Nightstar's necklace, 19.

Result of Standard Action: If Agent Owl's or the Owl Drone's attack check meets or beats her dodge, Nightstar's necklace must make a DC20 toughness save, as an inanimate object, it breaks at 2 degrees of failure and is destroyed at 3. If both attacks make their check, increase the DC by +2; if the supporting attack (Owl Drone's) beats Nightstar's dodge by three degrees, increase the DC by +5. Agent Owl's dodge/parry is at an additional +5 this round. If for some bizarre reason Agent Owl's attack check succeeds by two degrees, increase the DC an additional +2, or by three degrees, increase the DC an additional +5

Owl Drone Move Action: Relocate to elsewhere in the room.

Firepower rains over Nightstar as Agent Owl coordinates her talons with the Drone's lasers, in an incredible display of teamwork. As both attacks reach their mark, Nightstar shields herself crossing her arms in front of his face, and an explosion of dust ensures! As the visual returns, Nightstar looks up at Agent Owl, her necklace glowing with golden energy, so far unscratched.
The Hand is visible surprised at Alecto's revelation, "How could such an impure creature such as you know of the mind shackle rosaries?!" He throws his hand to the side violently "No matter! Soon you'll meet your end by my hand! Prepare yourselves, Guardians!" he challenges, resuming his lotus stance. A few seconds after, he starts humming, and the sound reverberates throughout the room, making everything shake. Slowly, he starts floating in the air, and the same golden energy you are already familiar with starts emanating from him, as the reverberation grows stronger.

Drone's attack hits. Necklace rolls toughness: 24! holy....
Starfish turn.

Alecto
HP : 0
Condition : -2 Tou checks, Fatigued
Resolving The Hand's Secondary Effect Toughness vs DC25, at end of his turn _: 1D20+9 = [18]+9 = 27 - actually rolled MUCH higher than a '5' for once, when I needed to !!
The bone crushing vibrations The Hand's initial strike set up struck again - but THIS time, Alecto was able to shrug off the effect !

Starfish is grateful for the concealing mists as she takes a moment to gather her wits about herself.
Recover action to take off Exhausted condition. It's risky choosing that over the Staggered condition but the Enhausted comes with an Impaired that gives -2 to all checks. +2 defenses this round.

Nightstar grins as she sees Starfish taking a moment to collect herself. "You are wide open!" she screams, producing another orb of purple energy between her hands, and aiming it perfectly at Starfish. The torrent of purple power washes over the Guardian!
Meanwhile The Hand's technique keeps the reverberation growing stronger and stronger...

Attack with purple energy beam, 24. If that beats Starfish's dodge, damage DC 25 fire damage applies.
Now is the turn of Alecto, Agent Owl and the drone.

The Alien energies wash over the amphibious Guardian and Myra cries out, her body wracked by the pain and damage. But still she stands.

Toughness: 1D20+10-4 = [12]+10-4 = 18
Fail by 7, so failure by 2 degrees -1toughness, Dazed

so: -5 toughness, Staggered, Dazed(one turn)

Alecto
HP : 0
Condition : -2 Toughness, Fatigued, now Exhausted

"How could such an impure creature such as you know of the mind shackle rosaries?!" The Hand asked.

"But I am pure - pure EVIL !!"
Alecto replied with a smirk, "You actually think you're the only one to have studied magic ? I can practically smell when there are magic devices about !"

She noted the monk's chanting seemed to be enhancing itself in a feedback loop, getting louder - and probably more powerful - by the moment.

One good thing about having studied magic for years was the knowledge of how to NOT get hurt by it.

So she concentrated for a moment to bend her usual powers into something more effective :
Powerstunting : Immunity 5 (Magic damage) Sustained +0, Reflective +1, for 10 points.

Agent Owl
Hero Points: 0
Condition: 2 Bruise

Just before Agent Owl releases the grapnel's latch to the ceiling she once more throws Owl Talons at Nightstar, cuing the Owl Drone to fire its blaster in tandem. Both attacks are on their way to their mark, the necklace for one more strike!

Agent Owl releases the grapnel and the upward momentum into the air gives her enough lift to start gliding, heading toward one of the pillars for cover!

OOC
-------------
Agent Owl Standard Action: Defensive attack 5 throw Owl Talons at Nightstar's necklace, 21!

Owl Drone Standard Action: Team attack accurate with Agent Owl using Energy Blaster vs. Nightstar's necklace, 22.

If Agent Owl's attack check succeeds by two degrees, increase the DC an additional +2, or by three degrees, increase the DC an additional +5.

Agent Owl Move Action: Glide to cover where I will stealth at 19.

Owl Drone Move Action: Relocate to elsewhere in the room, behind cover.

The combined efforts of Agent Owl and her stealthy drone bear fruit this time. Whatever magical shield the necklace had gives away, and the talon pierces its central bead. Then, the necklace proceeds to shatter in million of invisible pieces, falling appart as if it was made of sand. Instantaneously, Nightstar blinks, visibly confused. That feeling is replaced by a quite visible swelling anger, as she turns to The Hand.
The monk is still muttering words under his breath, concentrating power in the palm of his hand, so he doesn't seem to realize what is transpiring out there. In that moment, however, he opens his eyes, which flash golden radiance, as he utters the last mantra. "Ohm!"
The room is bathed in the golden light that expands from his eyes. There seems to be nowhere to run, no way to avoid being engulfed by the strange energy.

Necklace toughness: 13 Nightstar is on your side now!
The Hand uses Ohm, everyone he can see in the room. He can also see Agent Owl (Perception 30) but she still benefits from cover for the purpose of saves. That is a 20 dc dodge save for half effect. Those who make the save suffer magical damage DC 20, and will based DC 15 affliction: dazed, stunned, paralyzed. If you fail the save, the DCs are 25 and 20 respectively.
Then its starfish turn.
If someone wants to control Nightstar, feel free. You can also give her orders for coordinate attack purposes and the like.

Alecto
HP : 0
Condition : -2 Tou, Exhausted
She may be immune to magical damage at the moment, but NOT magical Afflictions.
Dodge vs DC20 _: 1D20+9 = [14]+9 = 23
- manages to avoid most of the effects. Meaning she can fire back half the damage resisted back at the Hand on her turn as a free action.
Will resist vs DC15 Affliction _: 1D20+11 = [7]+11 = 18
- resisted fully.
Alecto managed to get her defenses up in time - the shadows swirling around her took the blast of golden light from the monk.
But instead of being blown away, they absorbed it and became stronger.

The magical energy washes over the heroes, and somewhere in the room the Drone explodes, showering the area with derbies that cackle with electricity as the cloaking device is also destroyed. Aside from that the heroes of Conflux city stand unaffected, much to the surprise of The Hand. "This cannot be, how is it possibl...?" but he doesn't finish the sentence as he has to roll out of Starfish's water trap, making it just in time, with an acrobatic jump that defies his apparent age. Nightstar charges forward trying to slam the old man down, but he is deftly and avoids the blow, parrying her punches effortlessly. "You have learnt nothing girl, I am disappointed!"

The hand saves: 23 and 16
Nightstar attack: 13 shes been rolling so bad...

Alecto and Agent Owls turn again.

Agent Owl 24 [-2 Toughness, behind cover.]
The Hand 15 [Fine]
Grit 12 [Fine, out an away for 1 rounds]
Starfish 7 [-3 Toughness, Staggered]
