What, Lex doesn't trust the Wreck Room safety protocols?

You know, I feel a bit bad now.
Because if Star Trek has taught me anything it's that the holodeck safety protocols never fail, and you are always safe. ;~)

Teenagers make bad decisions. Frequently because they think their pain is unique or that they can somehow mitigate the consequences.
That's pretty much it. There's an eight year gap between my brother and I. Also, I spent a smidgen of time working with teens. I have seen them make a bevy of decisions that bordered on absolutely brainless (and I even made some myself, in my more formidable years). One of my brother's friends once jumped out of a moving car, because his grandmother (the driver) wasn't going to take him to his girlfriend's house until later that day. Another of his friends parked his new Vette, in the mud, in the rain, and when it got stuck, he tried to rev it out and he had to call a tow truck to pull it out, he proceeded to call his mother and scream at her because somehow that was her fault. I once counseled a 16-year-old who knocked up his best-friend's kid sister and didn't understand why his best-friend hated him and why he wasn't welcome at their house anymore. Another time, I dealt with a teenage girl who forgave her boyfriend for sleeping with her cousin, her best-friend, and a girl from her class because he proposed. Hell, at one point I can recall having to actually tell my brother that no, he could not run a gambling casino out of our mother's living room so that he could buy a Wii.

The one that takes the cake was a kid I knew in high school. Basically, it started with him getting rejected by a girl and ended up with some nice FBI agents showing up at our high school. Teenagers do incredibly stupid things.

You are correct, sir. Once or twice, NPCs have mentioned that magical talents are attuned to a person's soul. For Beatrice, the first thing she was able to do was something involving bears.
Flynnarrel wrote: Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:39 pm Did Jason ever tell how he learned magic, and the cost thereof?

Also, has Martin detected anything of magic around the school? Any trace of the Wards that Dr. White said he placed there? I'm trying to puzzle out if the smarter-than-me Frenchman can reason his way through Beatrice's new abilities and their cost but I'm not sure he has enough experience with his newfound Awareness to do so without it being meta-game-y.
Jason played everything extremely close to the chest. For a long time, he refused to use his pendant sword if someone else could observe it. Given how secretive AE played him, I don't think he told a soul where he learned magic or the bargain he made (and partially went back on).

Martin would not have detected the wards, but then again, the Aurelius also told him that he feared they'd been destroyed. Given that Martin has no idea how long ago they were dissolved, this wouldn't surprise him (other than it means that they weren't done really recently).

Props to HH for thinking of an angle I had not: Tallemaja. Given what is known about her (she did try to use enchantments to act as therapy for some of the other students, in hope of turning them on everyone), it isn't out of the question for Martin to presume she could have taught Beatrice. Martin is also one of the few students who knows about Chuck, so that's another route. A small hiccup occurs in that Martin was not at the NVAE last semester, while Jay was. For all he knows, Jay could have been teaching her all of last semester.

TEAM BEATRICE (NPCs: Beatrice, Cassidy, Doug, Nicole, Steven)
The Order – Round Two
  • T-Rex (16 - E16): Bruised
  • Steven (15)
  • Beatrice (10 - E19): Bruised
  • Cassidy (9)
  • Quail (6)
  • Chameleon (5)
The dinosaur will move and attack. Since no one has really moved out of the starting zone yet, I'm going to let the dice decide the target. BM: 1, CH: 2, DF: 3, NM: 4, SM: 5: 1d5 1 Beatrice it is. T-Rex - Attack: 1d20+12 32 Of course. Vestige - Toughness - DC 30: 1d20+8 11 Fiating to reroll for her.

Everyone gets a hero point.
Just noticed the comment about the HP, does it apply to everyone in the other teams?

There...now Beatrice is no longer the number 1 thing on Kas's mind, because greater than all considerations of wanting to be a hero, Kas is still a 17 year old boy, susceptible to all things 17 year old boys are suceptible to.

I also spent a lot of time considering what Kas would find "visually" attractive with his senses and I came to the conclusion that really active energy displays would probably do it. He would've probably made a play for Sprite if she hadn't been dating Viktor.

He's gonna be bummed in Regina isn't single.

Mich might mean every T-Rex gets a hero point (or maybe everyone on her team that will otherwise be grand-standed into obscurity). Not sure how Beatrice Fiating should benefit the other players. Sorry.

No, I feel the same uncertainty. Truly. Imago already has a ton of HP after all.

LOL!

I admit that I don't understand it when my Father or Brother used to yell at the television during a football match. But I wanted to incorporate a little of that into Martin.

I don't think the T-Rex's can earn HP. Pretty much everything they could use HP for (and more) is covered by GM fiat. However, the "big reveal" of Beatrice's new capabilities is an important plot point and Michuru often hands out HP for such things, so I think every PC gains a HP as we discover the "cute little girl whose powers are useful but completely ineffective in combat" can turn into Sasquatch from Alpha Flight.

okay, but 2HP (one for the Surge at the top of the round and one for a reroll)?

I mean, if Mich is front-loading us for some nasty thing about to come soon then, cool. But ::shrug::.

Yeah...that's a bit frightening to think about the implications of.
