Complications:
Motivation(Justice)-Lela wants not only her company Back, but also the Dragon Fang put out of Commision, regardless of if it's really legal or not...
Relationship(Dropkick, Pete Bazzini)-Pete was an ex-lover of Lela from college that still held a torch for her,but couldn't seem to compete with her current lover,Troy Wilde(The Fact that Troy could Probably Smear him across the floor really had nothing to due with it,obviously...)

Background:
Lela Cho was the only child of the millionaire owner of Hong Kong high technology firm Hypersonic ; he educated her richly and carefully, ultimately sending her to Harvard – as he felt his little girl had what it took to inherit Hypersonic. He was probably right ; she was only 23 when she graduated from Harvard with a masters degree in business. However, that was also the year when he died.
Although the death seemed perfectly natural to all involved, including Lela Cho, Terrance Cho had been killed by a third party that was attempting to control Hypersonic. When Lela Cho met the board of directors, it quickly became obvious almost all of them wanted her out (as most of them had been bought) and she had little means to stop this corporate mutiny.
Seeking an edge to reaffirm her rights as top shareholder, she came up with the notion that ultra powers would be the best thing. Her father had made her aware of a little known secret : the corporate giant, Nuware, had the means of implanting ultra powers in an human being, using a technology called wetware. This carried an hefty price tag, and was only open to a select few – but Terrance Cho’s daughter could both qualify and pay the price.
When she came back to Hong Kong, however, things didn’t go well at all. What she thought was a corporate mutiny was really a criminal gambit run by a very powerful triad called the Dragon Fang. She was greeted by killers with guns and forced at gunpoint to sign the papers forfeiting her shares. She only escaped torture and death by diving through a window and fleeing in a nearby limousine.
Seriously lacking options, she ended up in a bar in New York run by Pete Bazzini, an ex-lover – a man with powerful connections who might be able to help her. While the Dragon Fang were out of Bazzini’s scope, he gave her a useful contact – Troy Wilde, a skilled and well connected professional troubleshooter and mercenary.
Wilde was, indeed, skilled and well-connected. He allowed her to escape a Dragon Fang assassin and took her to a secret place behind a pub in London, that served as a meeting point for many mages, ultras and other paranormal types. In the pub, they met and befriended Shadowmage, and a few hours later met and recruited Outrage. While Wilde was badly wounded while in London, he struck a deal that he would work for Cho if she had him healed, and enhanced with wetware. He took the name Dropkick. Thus was the Solution born.
The Solution’s first goal is to pay its own upkeep ; since such an operation is expensive, Cho is actively hunting after lucrative contracts for a skilled, small and powerful group of ultrahuman mercenaries. Another mission is to strike, between contracts, to the Dragon Fangs – in order to weaken them so a direct financial move on Hypersonic becomes possible.

Personality:
Lela Cho is several things at once. Daddy’s proper, well educated and respectful little girl ; a courageous young businesswoman who’s out of her depth (due to lack of experience rather than lack of talent) ; the field leader and strategist of a respected team of international mercenaries ; and a ultra hero.
Thrust in circumstances beyond her control, Cho keeps on making courageous choices because she must honor her birthright and her father’s will (she is ambitious and wants to be a successful business leader, but her respect for her dead father comes first). She then rides the consequences of her choices as best as she can and with great courage.
She can sometimes seems reckless, due to her lack of experience – but she will always accept the consequences of her actions, whatever the risks, and never give in. That makes her a very straight, reliable and honest person.
Although she always wears the mask of an uncompromising leader, Cho is deep down nervous and frightened. She’s very loyal to her team, due her personality, her image of what a good leader should be, and the fact it is reassuring to have such powerful fighters around.
Lela is the only public voice for The Solution – all others have serious reasons for fleeing media exposure. She generally just refers to a highly trained team of ultras who work undercover and thus cannot reveal their face, making The Solution a bit of a mystery for the general public.
Lela’s most common exclamation of surprise is the Chinese “wei !”.

Macyn's Notes:
Tech is the Perfect example of what the Ultraverse could've been:a fairly good alternative option to Marvel that used old Idea's in new ways.Beisdes Prime,i'd go so far as to consider her the "Poster Child" of Malibu at the Time(Just type in Ultraverse in Google&watch how many times an image of her show's up...)
As an aside:I think Claremont ripped this character completely off when he Introduced The Undercover X-Man Sage...

Huh- she does seem interesting. Though Claremont had introduced Sage as "Tessa" much earlier, and given her implications of having many of those powers even back in the late '80s.

So you've found one of the few Ultraverse books I've NOT read. Thanks to the internet I'm aware of their place in the setting but thats it.

Just to let you know it's the sam way for the Freex.

So far they seem fairly straightforward, like the majority of the Ultraverse characters.

here's one of my favorite Comic Book Martial Artist's of all time....Dropkick!
Image
DROPKICK(Troy Wilde) Occupation:Mercenary,Martial Artist
STRENGTH 4 STAMINA 5 AGILITY 8
FIGHTING 14 DEXTERITY 4
INTELLIGENCE 1 AWARENESS 3 PRESENCE 1
[/b]
Skills:
Acrobatics 7 (+15) Athletics 10 (+14) Close Attack (Unarmed) 4 (+18) Insight 3 (+6) Intimidation 6 (+7)
Expertise (Mercenary) 5 (+6) Expertise (Streetwise) 4 (+7) Expertise (Martial Arts) 15 (+16) Perception 5 (+8) Stealth 3 (+10)

Advantages:
Accurate Attack, Agile Feint, All-Out Attack, Assessment, Defensive Attack, Diehard, Equipment 10 (Legion Gear), Fast Grab, Fearless, Grab Finesse, Great Endurance, Improved Critical (Unarmed) 3, Improved Defense, Improved Disarm, Improved Trip, Power Attack, Prone Fighting, Ranged Attack 5, Set-Up, Takedown 2, Teamwork, Uncanny Dodge, Weapon Bind

Powers:
"Wetware Improvements"
"Bio-mechanical Eyes" Senses 2 (Darkvision,Enhanced Vision) [2]
"Chi Fists" Strength-Damage +6 (Extras: Penetrating 8) (Inaccurate -3) (11) -- [13]
"Chi Discharge" Blast 8 (Extras: Area- 30ft. Shapeable) (24)

Offense:
Unarmed +17 (+4 Damage, DC 20)
Chi Fist Punch +11 (+10 Damage, DC 25)
Chi Blast +8 Area (+8 Ranged Damage, DC 23)
Initiative +14

Defenses:
Dodge +14 (DC 24), Parry +17 (DC 27), Toughness +4, Fortitude +7, Will +10

Complications:
Wetware Implantations-Since Troy got implanted with all this stuff,he's occassionaly felt like he wasn't much of a "True Martial Artiat" any more(he even got called out for it by the Sword weilding chick in Quattro?)
Relationship(tech)-Originally this started out as an "Employee with benefits" kind-of thing(it could be argued that Lela seduced him into working for her for free),but turned into actual Love a little while later...
Rivalry(Pete Bazzini)-even though he could literally turn the guy into a smear on his Bar,Troy doesn't an so has to put up with the guy's attempt to Steal Lela from him...
Quirk(Stolen Child at Birth)-Troy was stolen from his parent when he was an almost newborn,so he tend's to sympathise a lot with Mothers&small children(so much so that he took a case independant from the Solution for free cause it involved a Kidnapped child)...
Motivation(Doing Good)-wierdly enough,he tended to be the Voice of Compassion&goodness in the Team, basically getting them into a couple of Mission's for The Honk Kong Police...

Background:
About two things are known about Troy Wilde’s past : he was stolen from his parents when he was an infant, and he has studied martial arts ever since he was a small kid. The identity of his abductors/trainers is not known. What is known is that, when he was about 27, he became a mercenary and well-connected player in the troubleshooting business. He was seen as a reliable, smart pro and a highly formidable fighter.
Wilde was the best troubleshooter Pete Bazzini, a well-connected man, knew. Bazzini gave Wilde’s number to Lela Cho, the heiress of the Hypersonics society, who had been ousted from her own firm by the extremely powerful Dragon Fang triad.
Wilde found Cho to be an interesting client and person ; when they met he almost immediately helped her to escape from Casino, a Dragon Fang assassin. He took her to a secret place behind a pub in London, that served as a meeting point for many mages, ultras and other paranormal types. At the pub, they met and befriended Shadowmage, and a few hours later met and recruited Outrage.
However, Wilde was badly wounded while in London – both his eyes were destroyed by Casino, who had found them again. He struck a deal that he would work long term for Cho if she had him healed, and enhanced with wetware. He took the name Dropkick, and thus was the Solution born.

Personality:
Dropkick is a calm, experienced and competent troubleshooter and mercenary. He has a wide range of skills and contacts, and seems to be quite the white knight – he’ll not hesitate to do a freebie for concerned innocents, especially if that involves children. He’s quite sensitive on the subject of mistreated children.
He is the most relaxed and helpful member of The Solution, but will do a good job acting as a macho tough guy when needed for intimidation purposes.

Macyn's Notes:
If i had to pick my favorite Comic Book Martial Artist,it would be Troy here. Not only does he have an intresting origin that could've been explored more(who took him as a child&why?),he's also the main reason that the Solution is even seen in a positive light at all...

Complications:
Motivation(Doing Good)-Aera wants to be a good person, sometimes depsite what fate has in store for her..
Enemy(Vorlexx,The Darkur)-though she "get's along" with Outrage(sometimes barely),she and he both have a major fear of the Vorlexx...
Enemy(Quattro,Dragon Fang,Rex Mundi)-The were usually the Heavy enemies of the Solution....
Power Loss (Magic)- Magical spells are dependent upon verbal components and hand-movements(Especially Rune magic). If she can't move her hand or speak,Shadowmage can't cast spells.

Background:
Shadowmage is a battlemage from a planet/dimension called the Wold, torn between two warring races, the Ærwan and the Darkur. There are other, even more powerful entities on the Wold – such as the Vyr, virtually invincible mage-gods. Shadowmage herself is a Ærwan named Æra.
Shadowmage was sent on an extremely dangerous mission against the Vyr, in order to steal an extremely powerful artefact from them : the Vorlexx, which looked like a gemstone. The Ærwan leaders hoped to use its mystical might against the Darkur, and then send Æra back to the Vyr before they could fully act to recover their property.
Shadowmage was the very first person to survive the Vyr’s defenses and to actually make it within their sanctum. She did manage to steal the Vorlexx (killing one of the Vyr in the process by wielding the Vorlexx against it), but came to realize the huge mystical power of the artefact.
It could cause untold damage to the Wold if wielded by any of the two warring races, including her own ; it would inevitably corrupt whoever used it ; and the retaliation of the Vyr would be terrible if they could easily find the thing. So she fled to another dimension, where she intended to bury the Vorlexx.
She arrived on Earth shortly after World War One, and buried the gemstone in a village south of Paris. Meanwhile, the Wold erupted in the extremely violent war known as the Tch’al Conflict (in which Vurk was a fighter) over the theft of the Vorlexx.
Æra stayed on Earth, only occasionally encountering other travelers from the Wold, and becoming a part of Earth’s occult community as an alien student. It was while she was studying in an important mystical library under London that she met Lela Sho and Troy Wilde, saving both of their lives from the assassin Casino.
After some discussion with Cho, who wanted her to join her crusade against the Dragon Fang, Shadowmage performed a divination and saw her fate was to join the Solution, as they needed her and she needed them, especially as they could allow her to survive the Vyr.

Personality:
Shadowmage is a competent, collected adventurer with a very matter-of-fact attitude. She deeply believes in the forces of fate (and often uses divinations) ; since to her eyes most things are preordained she rarely seems surprised, shocked or taken by surprise, and react to most things with calm and confidence. About the only thing that can faze her are highly powerful entities such as the Vyr or Rex Mundi.
She has something of a regal bearing and attitude, like a princess in exile ; but quite rarely, when she feels comfortable, starts giggling like a Japanese schoolgirl. She became a friend of Tech and, by extension, Dropkick.

Mayson's Notes:
Visually,i thought her race was the Most striking I'd ever seen(at least to my 16-17 year old Hormonal brain) and her Race/World could've been used to explain certain Magical Histories(Merlin,Morgan le-Fay,The Pyramids, etc.) in the Ultraverse...

IIRC the Godwheel was a location, an artifical planet sturcture that looked like a wheel, the characters Topaz, Boneyard and Lord Pumpkin orignated there.

It was later used as loose title (just after marvel took over) as part of a event which involved the infinity gems, and several heroes trying to stop the gems from being used. It ended up being a disjointed mess with several characters dying and lead to the Black September event where marvel just killed or changed things they didn't like, effectively wrecking the setting

Defenses:
Dodge +9 (DC 19), Parry +10 (DC 20), Toughness +13(+10 Impervious), Fortitude +11, Will +7

Complications:
Motivation(Thrills)-By this point in his long life,Vurk is just Toolin' around, picking Fights&getting in trouble...
Enemy(Vorlexx,The Darkur,The Ærwan)-Though he would never say it out loud(or even admit it,for that matter),Vurk is Terrified of the Vorlexx, his own people want to kill him for some reason&he naturally hates the Ærwan(though he occassionally get's along with Shadowmage)...
Enemy(The man With The Harmonica)-a Darkur Hunter that occassionally ran into outrage through the years, they've gone from "Kill you at First Sight" to "Your a total A%^-hole"....
Top Dog Syndrome-Never known for his Social Niceties,Vurk tend to want to prove that he's "Top Dog" to anyone he meets(he even tried to pick a fight with Hardcase when they first met)....

Background:
Little is known about Vurk’s background ; he seems to be a Darkurian veteran of many conflicts with ample combat experience.
It is unknown why he ended up on Earth. He likely fled there because his people hate him and want to kill him, but the reason for this are unrevealed. Vurk once implied that he was considered antisocial in his home culture, and spent time as a kid hunting monsters in highly dangerous caves sane Darkurians would avoid.
This outcast was fated to meet Lela Cho, Troy Wilde and Æra in a London pub. Æra had foretold that “an enemy pursued by his people” was to be the fourth member of The Solution ; a few minutes later, Vurk, who was just hanging around, was attacked by a Darkurian war beast, which he had trouble fighting off. His future team-mates helped him prevail.
Vurk was not enthusiastic about teaming up with two humans and, especially, his racial enemy an Ærwan. While such a situation would have provoked great rage for the average Darkurian, Vurk was merely reluctant and was soon convinced to join in order to fight off those hunting him. He joined the solution as Outrage.

Personality:
Vurk is a gruff warrior, who always looks quite pissed off and in a bad mood. He favours the direct approach ; fighting is highly pleasurable for him. However, unlike most Darkurians, he stays highly rational in battle, not losing himself in the rush.
Also unlike most Darkurians, he’s not a casual killer, and does not have a blind hatred of Ærwans and complete contempt for humans. The reasons for such an enlightened attitude are unknown, but he seems to consider himself very much a part of a group as a member of The Solution — at least within the limits of the Darkurian temper.
Vurk is a chain smoker and hard drinker. He dislikes environments that seems safe and protected and much prefers slums and bad parts of the town. He needs to regularly feel alone and in danger or he will go stir-crazy.
Since he’s been on Earth for decades, he generally has no problems orienting himself in Earth societies. However, he still can have difficulties understanding the most fancy and least pragmatic aspects of human cultures.
Vurk considers himself a very tough and experienced fighter ; he will often taunt his adversaries by implying they are inexperienced or not aggressive enough.

Macyn's Notes:
While i liked Outrage well enough,i never could really understand why he got kicked out of his Society. You'd think they'd want to keep one of their most Experienced Fighters(Even the Darkur Meathook from Quattro thought he was good!) around, there had to be something more they were planning...

The Freex:
A group of Super-powered teen runaways hunted for their genetics.
Story:
The group that would come to call themselves the Freex were apparently created when a group of newborn infants were injected with a substance called "wetware", a mix of mutated DNA and nanotechnology that had been created by the advanced but isolated underground society called the Fire People. The nurse who injected these children would later go on to become the superhero Contrary, who utilized other Fire People technology to assist and organize Ultraforce. The members, searching for others like themselves, began to contact each other. This was helped by 'Plug' and his ability to interact with computer systems. They came together, but before they had time to do more than introduce themselves, they were already being chased, exploited, hunted, and were wanted by the police. This would set the tone for most of their exploits to come.

Enemies:
Mangle-an Early Foe of Night-Man's who manages to convince them he was being exploited and pursued also. Was Found out and beaten nearly to death by Boomboy.
Bloodhounds-This group of Genetically altered Dog's were used to hunt& capture anyone with Wetware in them and Bring them to the Fire people to kill. They were Killed when Pressure brought down a Burning Building on top of them.
Master of the Hunt-Leader of the Bloodhounds, the Heavily Armored Fire Person(I'm assuming it was a male,as Dog's tend to follow the orders of Male Pack Alpha's) was one of the Most Dangerous foes the Freex ever faced(right AfterThe Lost Angel&Rune, but before Rafferty),but was presumed killed when Anything&Sweetface threw him into live electric wires(Though he DID survive a burning Building being dropped on him Earlier,so...).
Rush-More of a group annoyance than anything else,Rush was more hunting them for the Bounty placed on them by Contrary.Had his head nearly clothslined off by Boomboy.Still around,though...
The Lost Angel-One of the group's earliest(and Constant) enemies, for a long time she was more of a Disembodied voice that tries to tempt them into entering an alternate reality.
Night Patrol-For all intents&purposes, these were the Friends of Humanity of The Ultraverse and were constantly trying to rid the world of Ultras. They tended to go after The Freex a lot,though....
Contrary&The Academy of The Elite-Originally used as The "Evil Private School" mirror by the writers, they later turned them into more Competitive Rival's than anything else(though i will admit that Contrary was a rather good teacher,if a little to manipulative for my taste's).
Rex Mundi-Like i said previously in my Hardcase build,This guy wound up being the Apocalypse/Darkseid lite of his World...
Rafferty-This dude Scared the Bajesse's out of me,as he wanted to consume the Heroes Powers. The Freex more or less just Survived him than anything else.
Rune-The Ancient Vampire hold's grudge for what they did to him in ancient Eqypt(they brought a halfway built pyramid down on top of him),and wierdly enough,is the main reason why he hunt's Ultra people.

Macyn's Notes:
I liked the idea that the group was a combination of The New Mutants&The Fallen Angels,i just had an issue with some of the way the Writer's treated the characters...

let's start with the sadest one of the lot....Boom Boy!

The only reason i didn't give this poor kid any skills is due to the Fact the he was locked in his Parent's Basement with only one book to read...

Complications:
Guilt- this kid was the Ultraverse's Awnser to Peter Parker,Blaming himself for everything around him(His Parents Divorcing, his Whie&Black Friends Constantly Fighting,if it rained that day, etc.),it got so bad he almost commited suicide ounce....
Relationship(The Freex)-after running away from home,Lewis started meeting&Finding the others and sort-of became the "Group Leader",so he feels responsible for them....
Relationship(Sweetface)- especially Sweetface, who as any natural 16 year old,he has the hots for....
Rivalry(Plug)-and an unintentional rival for her affection's with the Resident "Nerd" of the group, Plug.

Background:
Born to a black father and a white mother, Lewis often found himself in the middle of conflicts, first between his parents, and later between his black and white friends. Trying to keep his parents, and later his groups of friends, together, he found himself constantly failing. Eventually discovering sports as a way to appeal to everyone in his school, he became a star football player. During one game, he suffered a blow on the head, a blow that caused him to lose his form and first manifest his power. Terrified, his friends tried to distance themselves from him, and the stress of his public outing resulted in his parents finally divorcing. Overwhelmed with guilt at what he felt he'd caused, Lewis ran away from home, finding himself on the streets of San Francisco, completely alone.
He eventually was recruited by Plug to join the group of runaway teens that would become known as the Freex. Gaining leadership through his charm and becoming close friends with Boomboy (who, due to being locked in a basement for most of his life with only the book "Huckleberry Finn" to keep him company would constantly refer to Lewis as "Huck"), and gaining a romantic interest in Sweetface, he eventually came into conflict with Plug (who wanted to lead the group and had romantic feelings for Sweetface), briefly causing the team to leave him.
The despair over being abandoned again caused the Lost Angel to attempt to corrupt him and convince him to commit suicide. When his friends came to his rescue and rallied around him, the Angel's control was broken and Lewis fought his way to freedom.

Macyn's Notes:
Among all the Intresting looks that the Ultraverse had,i alway's thought that this one was the Most Dynamic,as it allowed the Artist to go nut's with the stuff he could have Lewis turn into....
