Darkseid with Parademons: Earth-T1

Post by Thorpocalypse »

We're continuing our Cosmic Thorpocaverse run with a trip to the other side of the universe where things are a bit...DARK...

Image
I. Am. The. New. God. All is one in Darkseid. This mighty body is my church. When I command your surrender, I speak with three billion voices. When I make a fist to crush your resistance. It is with three billion hands. When I stare into your eyes and shatter your dreams. And break your heart. It is with six billion eyes. Nothing like Darkseid has ever come among you; nothing will again. I will take you to a hell without exit or end. And there I will murder your souls! And make you crawl and beg! And die! Die! DIE FOR DARKSEID! - Darkseid

DEFENSES:
Dodge +10 [DC20] Parry +12 [DC22]
Toughness +19 (+8 Impervious), Fortitude +16, Will +14

COMPLICATIONS:
Arrogance: Darkseid is supremely arrogant and confident in his position as a god.
Obsession: With discovering the Anti-Life Equation and extinguishing free will throughout the cosmos.

Vulnerable: All of the New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 146 + Skills 23 (46 ranks) + Advantages 16 + Powers 114 + Defenses 16 = 315 / 315

Build Comments: I loves me some Darkseid. I may go back and make him more powerful, or add a higher PL version because recent testing has taught me that as constituted, he is not as overpowering of a matchup for the Justice League as I would like. He’s awesome, but if he’s facing Superman, Wonder Woman, J’onn and Hal at the same time, he’s probably going down. Numbers make such a huge difference in turn based combat.

Secret Origins: Darkseid IS. His origins are not important.

The Story so Far: Darkseid is. He IS the story.

Characterization: Darkseid is the God of evil. Darkseid wants to rule everything and eliminate free will from the universe. Darkseid will tolerate no resistance. Darkseid IS.

Friends and Foes: Darkseid has no friends. Darkseid decides to let DeSaad serve him, as well as Granny Goodness, Steppenwolf and his Female Furies. Darkseid will kill them if they fail to serve him faithfully and he will bring them back to kill them again because he IS.

Darkseid has been at war with New Genesis for centuries. Darkseid has let them live because he wants them to have hope that he can take away. Darkseid will destroy them when he decides it is time. Because Darkseid IS.

OFFENSE:

Close Attack +6 [Unarmed +1]
Ranged Attack +6

DEFENSES:
Dodge +8 [DC18] Parry +6 [DC16]
Toughness +6 (+4 without Defensive Roll), Fortitude +6, Will +9

COMPLICATIONS:
Obsession: Pain and torture. In the name of science, of course…
Responsibility: To his master, Darkseid.
Traitorous: Even though he serves Darkseid loyally most of the time, he often has designs on betraying his master and taking control of Apokolips himself.
Vulnerable: All New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 60 + Skills 32 (64 ranks) + Advantages 12 + Powers 6 + Defenses 15 = 125 / 125

Build Comments: One of the ultimate all-time toadies, DeSaad. I figured I’d take a run at him in case I decide to do a test with Darkseid making a major move on Earth. He has to have his right hand man with him.

Secret Origins: Originally born on New Genesis, the unnamed youth was corrupted by Darkseid. Darkseid made him believe that his pet cat had killed his pet bird. He punished the cat by burying it alive. When the bird came back, he killed the bird in a fit of rage. Then he followed Darkseid to Apokolips.

The Story so Far: Taking his New God name from "a being from a future, who taught me so much in my chosen field" (assumed to be the Marquis de Sade), DeSaad became the young Darkseid's henchman. When threatened by Darkseid's mother, the wicked Queen Heggra of Apokolips, DeSaad was forced to poison Darkseid's beloved, the Princess Suli. Heggra's plan was for Darkseid to then be married to the concubine Tiggra. When Darkseid discovered what happened, he forced DeSaad to poison Heggra in revenge. From that day, DeSaad has been Darkseid's main henchman.

Desaad was seemingly killed during an attempt by Darkseid to penetrate the Source. He was subsequently found to have "bonded" with Orion, causing the latter to become cruel and manipulative. They were later separated.

Sometime later, Desaad was tasked by Darkseid to retrieve Highfather's staff from the Source Wall, and use it to restore Darkseid's waning powers. Using a brainwashed Superman, Desaad accomplished this, but when the time came to recharge Darkseid's powers, using the staff as a conduit to the Omega Realm, Desaad betrayed Darkseid and tried to take the power for himself. The Omega Effect, however, possessed a horror within it that Desaad could not stand, and Darkseid simply siphoned the energy off of him.

Characterization: DeSaad is immortal as all New Gods are. He is a brilliant inventor of weapons for killing and torture.

Friends and Foes: He is mostly loyal to Darkseid, but also has his own ambitions which has caused him to betray his master on several occasions. Each time, though, DeSaad is soon back at his master’s side.

Might I suggest one more slot to the Omega Effect array?

Omega Containment: Immunity 80 (All Toughness Checks), half effect; (1 pt.)

A 40 point power, it becomes the default when he's NOT using the Omega Effect to blast or teleport someone. Which makes him a helluva lot tougher when facing the League en masse. Obviously, when he is blasting away with the Omega Effect he's as vulnerable as you have him here. That gives the heroes a chance to get their licks in, but it's clearly more dangerous during those times.

Dodge +13 [DC23] Parry +13 [DC23]
Toughness +15 (+7 Impervious), Fortitude +12, Will +9

COMPLICATIONS:
Motivation: Steppenwolf lives for war and combat.
Relationships: He is Darkseid's uncle, which, most of the time, curries him a bit of favor with the Lord of Apokolips.
Responsibility: To Darkseid.
Vulnerable: All of the New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 110 + Skills 27 (54 ranks) + Advantages 19 + Powers 27 + Defenses 12 = 195 / 195

Build Comments: My take on Steppenwolf is a the look of the New 52 version with the background of the classic. He’s been bad ass in Earth-2. His New 52 background would require a massive world invasion by Darkseid and that hasn’t happened on my Earth. Yet…

No cable thingy, we’re going with those dual blades that he slew Diana with and mad combat skills. He feels more worthy to help Darkseid conquer now.

Secret Origins: Steppenwolf was the brother of Heggra and commander of Apokolips's military during her reign and previously that of her husband Yuga Khan.

The Story so Far: Her son, Darkseid, sent Steppenwolf to New Genesis, where he killed Izaya's wife. Izaya, in revenge, killed him in the ensuing war between the two planets.

However, he was resurrected, and Darkseid once again put him command of the military.

Characterization: Steppenwolf is a highly talented military leader. He has served as the head of Apokolips' armed forces, and when going into battle personally often commands units of the dog cavalry.

Friends and Foes: He is loyal to Darkseid.

Dodge +7 [DC17] Parry +8 [DC18]
Toughness +14 (+6 Impervious), Fortitude +12, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Inferiority Complex: Kalibak knows that Darkseid favors Orion over him and he constantly tries to gain his father's favor.
Vulnerable: All of the New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 66 + Skills 10 (20 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 48 + Defenses 11 = 144 / 144

Build Comments: Good old Kalibak. Jobber to the big hitters. He can lay waste to a team of lower level heroes, but usually gets his butt handed to him by guys like Orion and Superman. And he’s really indispensable as someone for Darkseid to yell at when his plans fail.

Secret Origins: Kalibak is the first-born son of Darkseid and Suli. His mother Suli is killed by Desaad, acting under orders from Kalibak's grandmother Queen Heggra. Kalibak becomes a legendary warrior, and often serves as Darkseid's second-in-command.

The Story so Far: After Darkseid breaks the pact of peace with New Genesis, the rival planet of Kalibak's home Apokolips, he aids his father in the resulting battles.

Kalibak is often pitted against Orion, and after numerous clashes they learned that they were half-brothers. This fuels Kalibak's hatred of Orion to new levels, for Darkseid clearly values Orion over his first-born.

At one point, Kalibak is desperate enough to confront Orion without Darkseid's consent. Kalibak's scheme fell apart, and he kills his accomplice Desaad, also a servant of Darkseid, to cover his tracks. Darkseid was not pleased when he finds out, and he reduces his son to a pile of ash. After enough time had passed Darkseid resurrects Kalibak, hoping the boy had learned a lesson.

Kalibak later spends some time in an Apokolips prison, on Darkseid's orders. Darkseid is on Earth when Orion invades Apokolips. Justeen, a servant of Desaad, releases Kalibak to battle Orion yet again. Kalibak is swiftly subdued, but doesn't care much as Orion leaves to battle Darkseid and Kalibak hopes to gain power as a result.

Characterization: Kalibak is not a bright, but a powerful and vicious warrior.

Friends and Foes: He has a great jealousy of Orion and also longs to defeat Superman.

Responsibility: To Darkseid.
Rivalry: Sometimes with Darkseid as he sometimes tries to rebel against him.
Vulnerable: All New Gods are vulnerable to Radion.

Abilities 116 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 10 + Powers 120 + Defenses 8 = 270 / 270

Build Comments: The first time I really saw Mantis was when he took on Superman and Captain Atom in JLU. I haven’t seen all of the Superman TAS where Superman was originally dealing with Darkseid, actually. Anyway, he had a good showing and I didn’t realize how tough he really was until I read up on him. He’s a good one-on-one for Clark and definitely a battle for a PL10 team.

Secret Origins: Mantis is one of the "bug" people of New Genesis and has been given some of his superhuman powers by Darkseid.

The Story so Far/Characterization/Friends and Foes: Mantis left New Genesis first for Apokolips and then for Earth, where he planned to conquer as much of the planet as he possible could. He did this with the blessing of Darkseid, who hoped that the chaos Mantis created woukd help him in locating the human mind holding the all powerful Anti-life Equation.

The bug has been referred to as the Energy Vampire, due to his ability to drain energy from his enemies. To regain his strength after a loosing battle, Mantis sometimes rests in a tomb-like cacoon.

The Forever People summoned the Infinity Man who defeated Mantis and ended his first assault on Earth. Mantis then organised the inhabitants of the "bug" colonies of New Genesis into an army that invaded Earth. Lightray, Orion and Forager battled Mantis and his army and forced them to retreat. Mantis went on to aid Darkseid in his continual attempts to conquer the Earth.

During Orion's reign on Apokolips, Mantis retreated to New Genesis in order to "plant" firepits on the beautiful planet. He was quickly stopped by Mark Moonrider and Big Bear of the Forever People.

Like most of Darkseid's minions, there were occasions when Mantis has risen up against his master, and was punished in the most severe way.

Normally I preferred Marvel as a kid but ...

Darkseid ... proof Jack Kirby rocked like Barney Rubble baby :!:

DC characters normally lacked the depth of personality that Marvel characters had. Hell, Red Skull had more believable motivations than most the DC villains, and without good villains you can't have good heroes in my opinion.

I loved Thanos for Mar-Vell and honestly Darkseid is about the only villain that makes Superman interesting. If you feel remotely the same, I'd suggest that to keep that intact you have to give Superman a punchers chance mano-a-mano with the Big D. I don't know how it would work mechanically for a build but I'd give Darkseid a HP for each hero he was facing in a combat ... sort of a Reverse Complication for the heroes ... because Darkseid IS 8-)

I was actually thinking about that. I'm getting ready to post some more JL characters so I may give that mechanic a shot. Extra HP can certainly turn the tide of the battle in short order.

Abilities 60 + Skills 34 (68 ranks) + Advantages 12 + Powers 121 + Defenses 19 = 246 / 246

Build Comments: I love building Lantern Corpsmen (obviously) and this run at Hal gave me a chance to review my power ring power structure and make some very minor tweaks. From a couple of tests with him it works exactly how I wanted to I didn’t figure there was much sense in making many changes. I did adjust all the Lanterns' power levels just a bit because even though they've done it in the comics for the most part, I don't see them hanging with Superman for long one-on-one. They should be able to make it interesting, but in the end, Clark should win the greater majority of the time.

Secret Origins: Hal Jordan was born in Coast City on February 20th, to parents Martin Jordan and Jessica Jordan, the middle of three children with older brother Jack and a younger brother Jim. As a young child, he idolized his father, a test pilot who worked for Ferris Aircraft. At a very young age, he had to face his greatest fears when his father died in a plane crash right before his eyes. Despite his family's wishes, he followed in his father's footsteps and eventually joined the United States Air Force on his 18th birthday – turning up that very morning outside the Armed Forces Career Center before it had even opened.

Many years later, a dying alien named Abin Sur, member of the Green Lantern Corps, crash-landed his ship in the Californian desert. His power ring, being programmed to select a worthy replacement for any of their users that die, chose Hal Jordan for his ability to overcome great fear.
The ring automatically transported him to Oa, where and its abilities were explained to him, and he inherited the mantle of Green Lantern of Sector 2814. He would soon learn that there were another 3599 Green Lanterns across the universe, all monitored and empowered by mystical creatures called the Guardians. Hal received training from some of the best the Corps had to offer, including drill sergeant Kilowog, and his mentor, Sinestro.

The Story so Far: During his training, Hal learned that Sinestro has been subjugating his home planet, Korugar, through fear, using his ring. After Hal reported these acts to the Guardians and fellow Corps members, he battled Sinestro, and emerged victorious. Along with the rest of the Corps, he then testified against Sinestro at his trial. Expelled from the Corps and banished by the Guardians to the Antimatter Universe as punishment, Sinestro became a sworn enemy to the Corps and gained a new Qwardian power ring, the start of his revenge.

The Guardians originally only sanctioned one Green Lantern per sector, then allotted two per sector about 7 years ago and Hal was joined by John Stewart and succeeded in role at times by Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner. Hal had However, due to the events of Blackest Night and the revelation that life indeed started on Earth, and the amount of superhuman and intergalactic disturbances on Earth over the past 7-10 years, the Guardians have made an exception and allotted 5 for Section 2814. The recently resurrected Abin Sur, Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner all share responsibility for the sector and all also rotate as the Green Lantern representative on the Justice League.

Characterization: Hal is a reckless and cocky man that struggles with authority. More than once he has left his emotions cloud his better judgment, something the Guardians berate him for. Despite those attributes, he’s a one of the universe’s greatest hero with a strong willpower and an ability to overcome great fear. Hal is guided by his own conscience rather than the general rules that most of the Green Lanterns follow. One of his best traits is his refusal to admit defeat even in the darkest of situations, which has allowed him to achieve victory when facing even the most difficult odds,

Jordan is seen by many as the greatest Green Lantern of all, but he personally believes that spot belongs to his predecessor, Abin Sur. Sinestro, of course, believes that spot belongs to him and continually tries to prove that by proving his superiority to Jordan and the rest of the Corps by being their biggest nemesis.

Friends and Foes: Hal and his boss at Ferris Aircraft, Carol Ferris, have been romantically involved off and and on for years. They are currently “off” but Hal remains hopeful of reconciliation. Carol, who is the current leader of the Star Sapphire Corps deeply loves Hal, but remains separated from him to keep that bond as she fears their rocky history will lead to the loss of thelove that she needs to wield her power. Hal has also been involved with fellow Green Lantern Arisia Rrab, the superheroine Diva and Jillian Pearlman

Hal is also good friends with Tom Kalmaku, a young Eskimo lad who worked as his mechanic at Ferris Air. His best friend is Oliver Queen, Green Arrow. They two of them became close as member of the Justice League but eventually did a lot of adventuring together, strengthening their bond. He also counts Barry Allen, The Flash, as one of his best friends as well.

He has several enemies, but none with a more complex or personal history than his former friend and mentor, Sinestro. They have clashed several times over the years, but when the threat has loomed large enough, they have been able to put aside their differences and work for the common good of the universe.

Relationships: Longtime relationship with Dinah Lance (Black Canary), father of Connor Hawke and another child (with Shado), mentor to Mia Dearden (Speedy) and Roy Harper (Arsenal). In the superhero community, is very close with Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Flash Barry Allen.
Responsibility: Protecting Star City.
Rivalry: He and Hawkeye have a long rivalry about who is the better archer and he also has a good rivalry with Batman (although admittedly, it is more his thing than Bruce's).
Temper: Ollie can have a short fuse, particularly when it comes to social and political causes he believes in.

Abilities 64 + Skills 36 (72 ranks) + Advantages 33 + Powers 0 + Defenses 17 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: Always love me some Ollie. I set him up the same way as Clint for the most part with Ollie being a step below in close combat, otherwise, they are pretty much identical in the archery realm.

Secret Origins: A playboy who inherited millions of dollars when his parents died, Oliver Queen never gave much back to society and lived his life how he wanted; of course he made many rivals and enemies. After being pushed overboard by one of his own employees on his boat, Oliver was presumed dead and lost at sea, but, unknown to the world, he had survived and was lost in a deserted island. Oliver had a talent for archery and using his own initiative built a bow made out of spare parts of a broken generator; using his makeshift bow Oliver began hunting in order to eat.

Spending weeks alone on the island, Oliver began to search and found a small settlement with no people. He soon tried to retrieve water from the well but found that the people of this village had been killed and their remains thrown in. Oliver was shocked by the horror of this action and knew that those responsible needed to be brought to justice. Later a plane came towards the island and Ollie began to signal it; they opened fire. Using his bow Ollie managed to gain the upper hand and downed the plane. He was able to get off the island when some drug smugglers mutinied and took over a cargo ship. Dressed in a leafy disguise he had made his way on the island, and covering his eyes with a mask of grease from the anchor chain, he managed to capture the mutineers and save the crew. It turned out that they were the drug smugglers who had killed the islanders, picking up his bow Ollie began fighting back and overpowered them. His first taste for crime fighting came when he handed the drug smugglers over to the police and returned to a world he was set on changing for the better.

Using his vast fortune, he began to create various trick arrows to use under his new mantle of Green Arrow.

The Story so Far: Green Arrow was joined by a younger counterpart named Roy "Speedy" Harper. Speedy was also a skilled archer and the two were a formidable team and worked together for quite awhile. Green Arrow became a much darker character after he lost his fortune and became more in tune with the streets he protected, even growing a goatee that is now famous; it was during this time that Ollie became openly left-wing in his political views.

Ollie has had numerous adventures over the years on his own and with the Justice League and remains the protector of Star City.

Characterization: Oliver Queen has a very dynamic personality. His passion and intensity make him strong, although he has always had difficulty finding direction in life. His experience on Starfish Island taught him self-reliance and showed him there was more to existence, giving him an outlet. He has a strong social conscience, and outspoken left-wing political viewpoints. This has made him much less egotistical in the way he deals with problems.

And he makes a mean chili that made Martian Manhunter state that he hadn’t tasted anything as hot on any planet he’d ever visited.

Friends and Foes: He has had a long, on and off relationship with Dinah Laurel Lance, Black Canary. He and Roy Harper remain close, and he continues to build on his relationship with his son Conner Hawke. He continues to be Mia Dearden’s guardian and mentor and he and Hal Jordan remain close friends. He is actively searching for his son with Shado to forge a relationship with him as well. He also has a friendly rivalry with Hawkeye and Shaft in regards to who is the better archer.

He has a number of enemies, including Star City crimelord Brick, the mercenary archer Merlyn, the martial artist/assassin Constantin Drakon, his ocassional ally Shado and he’s run afoul of Deathstroke the Terminator many times as well.

Post by Thorpocalypse »

We've got another CAN'T MISS SPECIAL and this one's getting stocked on Aisle 2!

But I wanted to play with the big boys. And if I miss, it means I'm just another dude with a bow. It means I've been fooling myself this whole time. And that's why I never miss. - Hawkeye

Abilities 74 + Skills 30 (60 ranks) + Advantages 30 + Powers 0 + Defenses 16 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: Man did I love the previous Hawkeye solo series with the Tracksuit Mafia (bro). One of my favorite series of all time. Took Clint to a new level of relatability.

Secret Origins: Clinton "Clint" Francis Barton was born to Harold and Edith Barton. He grew up working in his father's butcher shop in Waverly, Iowa with his brother Barney. Their father was abusive, especially when he drank and continually beat the young boys, Barney taught Clint how to fight and helped him to improve his aim. Harold's drinking eventually cost him his life along with his wife when both died in a car accident. Clint and Barney were sent to a children's home, from where they run away to join a traveling circus, the pair worked as roustabouts.

While a member of the circus, Clint was trained by the original Swordsman and by Trick Shot.
After witnessing Superman and Iron Man in action, Barton attempted to emulate them by donning a colorful costume and employing his archery skills to fight crime. However, during his first public appearance, Hawkeye was mistaken for a thief by police.

The Story so Far: After escaping, he fell in with some other villains, developed a drinking problem similar to his father and worked on the wrong side of the law for some time.

However, after coming into conflict with his former idol, Iron Man, Clint decided to turn his life around. He gave up drinking, rededicated his life to his craft and honed his archery skill even further. Captain America took him under his wing and eventually nomintated him for Avengers membership. Barton along with The Scarlet Witch and her brother, Quicksilver, who were also reformed villains, formed the core of an incarnation of the Avengers that at first was regarded as less formidable than the previous roster, but the new team soon proved themselves against the likes of Kang the Conqueror and Doctor Doom.

Hawkeye has remained an active member of the Avengers for years, his archery skills and inventive trick arrows augmenting the superhuman powers of his associates. His carefree and rebellious personality meant that he sometimes argued with Captain America but their teamwork never faltered when faced by outside threats.

Clint also led a new second team of Avengers based in LA, the West Coast Avengers. After leaving that team, he started the Thunderbolts program, to help reformed supervillains become heroes. The program has had its share of failures and successes, but continues today under government control led by Amanda Waller.

After the apparent assassination of Captain America, Iron Man approached Clint about taking up the shield. Barton proved himself to be one of the few who could wield it effectively, and considered taking up the mantle. After he and Stark had a falling out over the Superhero Registration Act, he took up the mantle of Ronin for a while and joined Luke Cage’s group of unregistered Avengers. But he took up his mantle of Hawkeye again after helping take down Norman Osborn’s HAMMER regime.

When this crisis was over, Clint found a new purpose to his life, beginning to take more serious stock in his personal life outside of his various Avenger-related duties. First along this endeavor, he bought an apartment building in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn where he had recently began living, from the unsavory thugs who were going to evict all of his neighbors by tripling their rent. In the process, Hawkeye also adopted an injured dog named Arrow, which he later gave the name Lucky but he also calls Pizza Dog for his love of pizza. Barton also began closer mentoring Kate Bishop as his partner/protege.

Characterization: Clint can be a carefree, wise-cracking, rebel one minute, then a self-obsessed, depressed shell of himself a minute later. The years of abuse by his father have had serious impacts on he and his brother, Barney, and he struggles with his self-esteem constantly. He also has a very complicated relationship history, from his failed marriage to Bobbi Morse, his complicated relationship with the Scarlet Witch, and various other short term affairs.

Regardless, he is unfailingly loyal and has never let his teammates and friends down when it matters most.

Friends and Foes: Clint is close to his “work wife” Black Widow, his ex-wife Mockingbird and has had a mutual flirtatious relationship with Spider Woman. He sees his fellow Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, as a little sister. And he always has the support of Pizza Dog/Arrow/Lucky.

He and his brother Barney have clashed from time to time, with Barney even trying to kill him on several occasions but recently, they have reconciled, with Clint helping Barney with his own drinking problem and Barney supporting Clint through his recent problems with the Russian mob (bro).

Abilities 48 + Skills 31 (62 ranks) + Advantages 4 + Powers 140 + Defenses 11 = 234 / 234

Build Comments: Finally Barry is getting the top shelf recognition he deserves after the success of the TV series and his inclusion in the Justice League movie, where he looks like a scene stealer.

Secret Origins: When Barry Allen was only eleven, his mother was slain. His father was wrongly tried and convicted for the murder, and later died in prison where Barry watched him. However, the young Allen refused to believe that his father was guilty of the crime. His life ground to a halt as he dedicated himself to finding the real murderer and, more importantly, finding the motive behind the murder. To this end, Allen studied forensic science, and dedicated himself to solving not only his mother's case, but those of other people in his situation.

After graduating, Allen found work with the Central City Police Department as a police forensic scientist, with a well-known habit for slowness and lateness. Working late in the lab one night, a rack of chemicals that he was working next to was struck by lightning, and Allen was doused in chemicals. Surprisingly unharmed, Allen cleaned up the mess and returned to work, but soon noticed that the world appeared to be moving much slower than normal. He soon realized that it was not the world that had slowed, but himself who had sped up. Barry decided to fight crime, taking the superhero name of the Flash. Experiments with his powers revealed that not only was he super-fast, but he could vibrate his molecules, allowing him to appear invisible and phase through solid objects. His girlfriend's adoptive father, Ira West, helped him create a suit that could deal with his powers, and chemically shrunk it so it could fit into a ring for ease of portability.

The Story so Far: Allen and a group of other heroes decided to form a crime fighting team after they banded together to defeat an attempted alien invasion. This team became an important part of Barry's development as a hero, as Barry, already immensely popular with the public, became close with other member's of the superhero community, especially Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who would become his close friend.

Barry's girlfriend and later wife, Iris West, had a nephew named Wally. The son of distant and unloving parents, Wally longed to escape his home of Blue Valley and travel to Central City where the only family member he was close to lived, as well as his hero, the Flash. One summer Iris invited Wally to stay with her and Barry. Allen took Wally to the lab and, in an amazing coincidence, the sequence of events that gave Allen his powers occurred again, leaving Wally with the same powers as his uncle. Wally joined Allen in his crime fighting, becoming the sidekick Kid Flash.

After a several solo adventures and several with the Justice League, he tired of the superhero life and retired briefly. However, he came out of retirement to help Earth’s heroes battle the Anti-Monitor during the event known as the Crisis on Infinite Earth and he was captured. He was able to escape the Anti-Monitors' clutches, and destroyed the anti-matter cannon that was intended to destroy earth by creating a speed vortex. He was unable to handle the power of the vortex, however, and perished. His soul was absorbed into the Speed Force, and Wally took up the mantle of the Flash.

This was not the end of Barry Allen. He returned on three separate occasions to aid his nephew Wally West, helping him to deal with the worst days of his life. Barry Allen was permanently resurrected during the even known as the Final Crisis, during which he was instrumental in bringing about the defeat of Darkseid. Unsure of why he is alive, Allen contemplates his duties in the universe. It is soon revealed that he is becoming the new Black Flash, and that his resurrection was part of the machinations of Professor Zoom. Zoom was also responsible for all the tragedy in Allen's life, including the murder of his mother. He was able to defeat Zoom with the help of the other Flashes and several other super teams.

During the Blackest Night Allen, a beacon of hope for the entire planet, was selected as a Blue Lantern. He also briefly becomes a member of the White Lantern Corps. After these events, Allen returns to his job in the police department, his life in Central City and his job as the Flash.

Initially, things between he and Wally were strained as Wally felt redundant with “the real Flash” back. But after clearing it with Iris, Barry decided to leave things in Central City to Wally and spend the majority of his time with the Justice League and dealing with matters on a more global scale.

Characterization: Barry is one of the most respected and popular members of the superhero community.

Friends and Foes: Barry is close to his wife, Iris, and close friends Ralph (the Elongated Man) and Sue Dibny, Ray Palmer (the former Atom), Green Lantern Hal Jordan and members of the Flash Family Wally West and Bart Allen.

The Flash has acquired a colorful rogues gallery of villains. Their number includes (but is not limited to) several who formed a loose association and refer to themselves as the Rogues, disdaining the use of the term "supervillain" or "super-criminal". These criminals typically have unusually modest goals for their power level (robbery or other petty crimes), and each have adopted a specific theme in his or her equipment and methods. Rogues were Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, the Trickster, Pied Piper, the Top, and Captain Boomerang.

Abilities 104 + Skills 21 (42 ranks) + Advantages 15 + Powers 158 + Defenses 14 = 312 / 312

Build Comments: I really wanted to make J’onn a total nightmare for anyone on Earth-217 and I think I have. Crazy strong, high level telepath, complete biological control…he can do anything and everything well.

Secret Origins: J'onn J'onzz was born on Mars over 500 years ago. The Green Martian race was a telepathic race that wass in full commune with one another as well as the planet itself. They also possessed the ability to shapeshift and protect energy. The White Martian race, possessed the same abilities but they were more warlike. J’onn was a Manhunter, a keeper of the peace and authority figure on the planet. Well trained in various skills and possessing a keen detective's mind with a compassionate heart, J'onn was among the greatest to have served and protected his home for many years.

His greatness was recognized by the Green Martian leader and he handpicked J'onn to become the next leader of his people. To so he had to undertake a Rite of Passage wherein he had to detach himself from his people and understand what it meant to be truly alone. The Martian race had no such concept, as it was a very communal race, and J'onn needed the training in order to lead his people.

Upon his return J'onn finds that the paradise he once knew was burning with nothing much left but ashes. He initially blamed the White Martians, but he could not finda single a psychic presence and realized that an outside force had destroyed both races. J'onn was now truly alone.

The Story so Far: J’onn finds a psychic trail leading to Earth but it runs cold. J’onn now found himself in a strange and different world. Knowing that he had no reason to return to his dead planet, J'onn wandered into human civilization, attempting to find leads on the being, or beings responsible for the destruction of his people. In his time on Earth, he eventually began to make a new life among them but never lost sight of his true mission. Using his vast shape-shifting abilities, he took many forms across the globe, seeing life from every possible standpoint. He took the shapes of men and women of all types, and even animals. He spent much of his time in the role of a man named John Jones, a deceased detective. J'onn took a liking to this particular guise, as he still possessed a strong passion for crime-fighting.

Eventually J’onn met Charles Xavier, the strongest telepath he had ever encountered. They soon became friends and he helped J’onn identify who left the psychic trail; the psionic entity known as the Shadow King. J’onn eventually confronted The Shadow King and learned that he had been the weapon that destroyed the Martian races, but he was not the trigger. After J’onn defeated him, he tried to tell J’onn who sent him there but he seemingly self-destructed before he could do so, leaving J’onn with more questions.

Characterization: Driven by his desire to vengeance, J’onn continues to look for the person responsible for the loss of his planet. J’onn is heroic and compassionate man, but he hides that behind an aloof exterior. While the people and heroes of Earth have accepted him, he still keeps many secrets and maintains identities across the globe, making him somewhat of a mystery to teammates.

J’onn was a founding member of the Justice League, and remains heavily involved, using their resources to aid him in his quest.

Friends and Foes: He remains close to Charles Xavier and his friends in the Justice League. His enemies include a few other Martians that escaped the destruction of Mars, the White Martians, the mentally unstable D’Kay D’razz and his brother Malefic, whose insane jealously of J’onn combined with the loss of their world has made him J’onn’s deadliest foe.

Abilities 84 + Skills 10 (20 ranks) + Advantages 8 + Powers 94 + Defenses 10 = 206 / 206

Build Comments: The Vision was tricky to get where I wanted him but I think he worked out OK. He’s a full PL12 with Density and even without, he’s a decent mid-level brick in my setting. I’m torn about making him more powerful, like his MCU version, but I’m holding off for now. I also need to read up on his “family” because I would like to build Viv when I get around to more teen characters.

Secret Origins: The metal monstrosity called Ultron created the synthetic humanoid known as the Vision from the remains of the original, android Human Torch of the 1940s (actually a divergent Human Torch created by Immortus for his own machinations) to serve as a vehicle of vengeance against the Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

The Story so Far: Constructed by size-changing scientist Henry Pym himself, Ultron inadvertently gained sentience and rebelled against the Avengers' resident roboticist. The living machine programmed the Vision's neural processors with the brain patterns of the ionically charged costumed champion called Wonder Man and implanted a control crystal to keep him in check.

Ultron dispatched the Vision to draw the Avengers into a deathtrap, and it was during this initial encounter that the diminutive dynamo known as the Wasp coined the synthozoid's name. At first sight of the spectral entity, the horrified heroine called him an "unearthly, inhuman vision." Moved by the Avengers' plight, the Vision betrayed his programming and helped the mighty mortals defeat his calculating creator. The Vision served the Avengers faithfully for a number of years, standing with his teammates against the foes no single hero could defeat. Tentatively at first, the almost-human android embarked on a romantic relationship with the hex-casting heroine called the Scarlet Witch that blossomed into true love and eventually marriage. The newlyweds left Avengers Mansion to live a quiet life in New Jersey.

When the Vision's malfunctioning control crystal interfered with his ability to reason, he became bent on creating a new golden age of peace on Earth by seizing control of the world's computers and defense systems. Ultimately, the Vision reverted to form by severing his connection to the planet's databanks and extracting the control crystal from his mechanized mind.

Rogue agents of the United States government, manipulated by the time traveler Immortus, abducted the Vision and dismantled him. Once the Avengers recovered his remains, Hank Pym rebuilt him as best he could. However, Simon Williams would not allow his brain patterns to be used again to provide a matrix for Vision's emotions, as he felt the original process had "ripped out his soul" and been done without his consent. Although his love for Wanda led him to feel guilt, he attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the Vision was never anything more than a copy of him, a claim that a number of other Avengers, including the Wasp, believed. This, along with damage to the Vision's synthetic skin when he was dismantled, resulted in his resurrection as a colorless, emotionless synthozoid.

Meanwhile, the original Human Torch returned from apparent death, casting doubt on the Vision's identity. The Vision and the Scarlet Witch's children were then apparently revealed not to be children at all, but rather fragments of the soul of the demon Mephisto, who had been broken apart by Franklin Richards shortly before the birth of the twins. The twins were absorbed back into Mephisto, which temporarily drove the Witch insane. Although she recovered, she and the Vision separated, each operating on a different Avengers team.

The Vision gradually regained his emotions by adopting new brain patterns from the deceased scientist Alex Lipton, and gained a new body that resembled his original. In addition, Simon Williams' brain patterns gradually reemerged and melded with Lipton's patterns, restoring the Vision to full emotion once more.

While recovering from a crippling injury, the Vision gave up his attempt to reconcile with his wife, yet remained a member of the Avengers, briefly becoming romantically involved with teammates Carol Danvers (Warbird) and Mantis before making another attempt at reconciliation with the Scarlet Witch.

Recently, grief over the loss of the twins again drove the Scarlet Witch insane. She tried to rewrite reality to recreate them, causing a series of threats and incidents to inexplicably occur one after the other. The Vision crashed an Avengers Quinjet into the Avengers Mansion.

Walking out of the rubble, he apologized to the other Avengers, telling them he was no longer in control of his body before melting and expelling several spheres from his mouth. The spheres grew into five Ultrons, which were fought and destroyed by the assembled Avengers. During the fight, She-Hulk became enraged and tore apart the remains of the Vision.

Vision's memories were later incorporated into a younger version of Kang known as Iron Lad's armor that was left behind when he returned to the future. This new Vision, adopting the alias Jonas, has shown himself to be a new, unique entity.

During the Chaos War, Amatsu-Mikaboshi and his army of alien gods destroyed the realms of the afterlife, releasing the dead into the land of the living. The Vision was surprised to find himself among them. Working with Captain Marvel, Deathcry, Doctor Druid, Yellowjacket and Swordsman he protected the still-living Avengers as they were put to sleep by Mikaboshi using the stolen powers of Nightmare. Under the command of the Chaos King by their own will, Nekra and Grim Reaper attempted to slay the sleeping Avengers.

Grim Reaper taunted the Vision, thanking him for destroying Avengers Mansion. The Vision, thinking back to how Ultron had told him that he could not be human if he could not die, realized that he became human by dying. He then detonated himself, ending both his life and that of the Grim Reaper.

The Vision was rebuilt by Tony Stark and welcomed back to the Avengers.

Characterization: The Vision continues to struggle with his search for humanity but in the process has continued to prove himself as one of the world’s greatest heroes.

Friends and Foes: He remains close to several of his Avenger’s teammates and remains at odds with his “father” Ultron.
