Only Eric's years of experience enabled him to keep a straight face as the lights acted up, though he did look upwards, shaking his head. As the clerk addressed him, he turned his full attention back to him. Whipping out a note pad and pen, he said, "Yes, we would, thank you. And if you can think of anyone he might've talked to, friends or colleagues maybe, that would be helpful." He might have needed to have words with Felix once they were alone, but not in front of the clerk.
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

"He mostly kept to himself, I pretty much only saw him when he was dropping off rent. Different schedules, you know." The teen continues what he was planning to do earlier, and flips up a sign on his desk with 'B back in 5' written on it in red sharpie. He then guides the both of you over upstairs after a brief elevator ride, and makes to unlock the deceased man's apartment.

"We'll be cleaning it out next week, boxing things up for his lawyers and family to deal with." He informs, before pushing open to reveal the relatively cramped living space. Your eyes are drawn first to the large amount of books that line an entire wall, a quick glance at the titles reveal them to be more historical in nature. There's several pieces of decoration that seem more deserving of a museum then a bachelor's home, such as several statues depicting unfamiliar figures. Separating the 'study' from the living room itself is a long desk, ontop of which a laptop sits closed.

Your young chaperone stands at the door with his arms crossed, looking over the empty space with some interest. "I've worked part time for maybe a couple years now, but this is probably the third time I've seen a dead tenant's place. It's weird, seeing all this stuff and realizing the owner's never coming back to get it."

Eric walked into the apartment, looking closely at the books on the shelves, as well as the ones on his desk. The one question flowing through his mind was, what could someone like the good doctor be studying that would make him a candidate for murder? Eric also searched for a journal; knowing what the researcher thought about his topic of study would tell them as much, if not more, than knowing what that topic was...

OOC: Eric will 'take ten' in this attempt; does that give him 10 plus his bonus as his roll, or does that add 10 to his roll?
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

Felix Ian Xavier - Mr. FIX I.T.
Status: Fatigued
HP: 3

Felix holds up a hand to keep Eric from moving ahead, "One second, just let me make sure that there aren't any, uh, boobytraps."

He would have preferred to close his eyes to concentrate, but since the bored employee was hanging out he tried not to make things too terribly obvious. Reaching out with his magic he felt the world around him, looking for any hints of magic at work as he examined the apartment.

Mikjáll Lysanthir/ Michael Kelly
Condition: Normal
HP: 1

Mikjáll, always the strong silent type, tags along quietly. He scans the books as well, looking for signs of dust (or disturbed dust) as well as markings on the floor suggesting hidden doors. He also looks at the walls and ceiling to see if the spacing suggests a hidden spot or the like. (Is the picture an accurate representation or an approx? If the former, Mikjall will also check those ceiling tiles/ decorative panels.

Waiting for Felix to scan for traps, he speaks up.

"There's too much in evidence out here." He says quietly to Eric and Felix "I'm interested in what we don't readily see..."

OOC - I'll also take ten, for an 18. Alternatively, I can use my skills for a Teamwork bonus for Eric. Mikjáll also has well-informed if that helps - roll for Well-Informed Investigation (Well-Informed): 1d20+8 16 He also has Detect Secret/ Concealed Doors...

"Good thinking, Felix. You might want to pay special attention to that," Eric indicated the laptop. "Maybe it's trapped, but it may contain something we need, as well."
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

Felix isn't able to find any signs or traces of magical interference, and even gathers that the artifacts he had on display were relatively mundane in nature. One piece locked behind glass, of a woman naked from the top up holding her arms aloft, actually seems to have some form of preserving charm interwoven with it leaving it in remarkably good condition.

While looking around, Mikjal slowly comes to the impression that the room felt too clean. Normally you'd find things like books misplaced, dishes left out, and the trashcan still partly full. To him, it looks like someone got here before you did and pulled their own cleaning job of the place while trying to make it seem like they were never there. Something grabs his attention out of the corner of his eye, however. The wooden floorboards are for the must part near-seamless, yet there's one board that seems to have a slightly pronounced shape. He suspects that if he put the right among of force, it might be removable.

Jenny Ember
HP: 1; LP: 1; Condition: Fatigued

Jenny finally made her way a bit closer to Cheyenne- she gave one more look at the guy's fleeing form and then let her head droop, breathing a bit heavily. "At this point, I'm almost willing to let him go, rather than chase him out in public. But I know if we let him get away now, he is going to come back when we can least afford to deal with him- he's got some kind of spell on him, but I didn't have time to really pick it apart."

She shook her head briefly, then turned to look at Cheyenne more directly. "Pretty glad you came along, That could have been really bad if I was by myself- I mean maybe bad as in I'm in trouble or maybe bad as in he gets turned into a newt and then set on fire, but still... Bad."

"Do you want to keep chasing him, or try to link up with the others? Or maybe go try to find the guy this jerk was supposedly looking for, see if he is okay?"

"Looks like it's clear," Felix says finally giving the others the go ahead.

He takes a seat over by the laptop and gives it a once over trying to make sure there's nothing strange about it before he attempts to log in and see what's there.

Felix has no issues accessing the laptop, pulling more mundane tricks to easily uncover the man's password. Almost disappointingly, there doesn't seem to be anything nasty hidden on it at all. His history seems relatively mundane, an even distribution between social media and streaming sites along with the typical amount of porn a bachelor his age would've consumed. It's obvious he was a big historical nut in general from the various people he watched and followed online, as well as the other sites he perused for his research.

It seems the laptop was still logged into his account for the university's site along with his email. In the former, you learn a bit more about this particular fields of expertise of archeology and his general class schedules. Dr. Jackson specialized mostly in the studies of the ancient Hebrew peoples, which seems a little more clear when looking at the decorations of his apartment. According to the school's calendar, before his death he'd taken a week long vacation beforehand.

With his email, Felix notices that there's been several recent correspondents that've been purged serverside. While he's able to notice the discrepancy, by the looks of things this was extremely professional work and he's only able to catch the last deleted message by almost sheer luck.

OOC: What would Eric's investigation have turned up? His 'roll' with take 10 would have been 18, same as Michael...
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

GM:Your thoughts would be pretty similar in the end. Someone already got here before you and cleaned then place out. Mikjal's Detect however spots something hidden...

GM: Not this time, it has fairly typical house smells.

Eric looked over the books in the shelves, sniffing occasionally. Finally, he cursed, "Dammit! All I can tell is that whoever came through before us was anal retentive in cleaning up the place. Bastards must've cleaned with cleaning chemicals, washed dishes, dusted the shelves and the freakin' desk. You guys got anything? Because I've got diddly squat!" He slammed his fist against the wall in frustration. He was not accustomed to facing such methodical precision in crime scene cleanup.
Thanks, and have a nice day :)
