Wow, Patreon really backtracked on their fee increases

So they were announcing that they were gonna charge creators LESS than they used to (probably because a competitor is now getting into the market)... but that they were gonna make up the difference by adding a 0.35 surcharge to each dollar spent on Patreon. Which targets the PATRONS, not the creators.

Well, $1 and $2 Patrons make up a HUGE chunk of the business of Patreon creators, and guess who cut down on their patronage as a result?

So after all of a week, Patreon has apologized and scaled it back: https://blog.patreon.com/not-rolling-out-fees-change/

Rather odd for a company to be so forthright about this, but they had some REALLY angry creators as a result of this- many of them lost income at their most-sustainable levels.

There's a good discussion here of some of the reasons they made the move, but some of it has to do with fees per transaction, some of it is about avoiding getting regulated as a money-lending service, and some of it is about how their financials look to their investors.
