I was hoping others had a "take" on how I statted him up, and how the moves work. I think tonight I'll stat up John Tenta, which will show a higher-tier guy, and also showcase things like diminishing over time.

Defenses:
Dodge +4 (DC 14), Parry +9 (DC 19), Toughness +13, Fortitude +13, Will +5

Complications:
Weakness (Stamina)- Huge wrestlers will tire more quickly than others- the longer matches go, the less their Second Wind will work.
Enemy (Hulk Hogan)- Earthquake badly injured Hulk Hogan's ribs, nearly ending the Hulkster's career.
Relationship (Jimmy Hart, Dino Bravo)- Earthquake was a regular partner of Dino Bravo's, but did not interact much with the rest of Jimmy Hart's stable.
Power Loss (Babyface Comeback)- Heels cannot use Babyface Comebacks, and Babyfaces may lose them if they cheat during the course of a match.

Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 7 / Powers: 49 / Defenses: 10 (144)

-The mighty Earthquake had one of the best debuts in wrestling- he appeared "randomly" chosen from the crowd for a push-up contest between Dino Bravo and The Ultimate Warrior. Excellently playing up the "ME? Oh, NOOOOO... SHOULD I? GEE WHIZ" regular guy thing, he turned on the Warrior, jumping on his back instead of sitting on him for the challenge. He would become "The Canadian Earthquake"- Bravo's partner, then get put into a feud with Hulk Hogan, in which he broke the Hulkster's ribs and nearly ended his career. This SUPER-HOT program lit the world on fire during the summer of 1990, doing so well that 'Quake didn't job at SummerSlam and they feuded for another six months, until both moved on. Hogan would become WWF Champion after Warrior bombed on top (he had no real contenders; Hogan gobbled up the best Monster Heel in 'Quake), while Earthquake moved on to feud with Jake Roberts (which included him KILLING DAMIEN!!!) and others, before he moved down the card.

-At PL 11 here, Earthquake is a mighty force to be reckoned with. His obesity making him impossible for most men to Slam, he is thus immune to many finishers, and his raw strength and toughness make him a mother to overcome. Even HULK HOGAN didn't get a legitimate fall over him on Pay-Per-View!

Complications:
Weakness (Stamina)- Huge wrestlers will tire more quickly than others- the longer matches go, the less their Second Wind will work.
Relationship (Jimmy Hart, Typhoon)- Earthquake & Typhoon were tag team partners as The Natural Disasters. They were initially managed by Jimmy Hart.
Enemy (Jimmy Hart, Money Inc., The Nasty Boys, The Beverly Brothers)- The Natural Disasters eventually split with Hart, feuding with his main teams, then the Beverly Brothers, during their reign as Tag Team champions.
Power Loss (Babyface Comeback)- Heels cannot use Babyface Comebacks, and Babyfaces may lose them if they cheat during the course of a match.

Total: Abilities: 62 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 7 / Powers: 48 / Defenses: 10 (137)

-As was becoming common at the time, Earthquake's falling role on the card saw him get a "Clone Buddy" partner, in the former "Tugboat". Now renamed Typhoon, the two became The Natural Disasters, one hell of a Monster Heel tag team. However, as the company was in a "bust" period, they're mostly known for poor matches against low-tier competition- nobody in the world bought the BEVERLY BROTHERS as World Tag Title contenders at SummerSlam. They traded the Tag belts with Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Schyster), but aren't a particularly well-remembered duo.

-This PL 10 version indicates Earthquake as he was falling down the card. Still highly-dangerous, but not as much as before.

-When Hulk Hogan moved on to WCW, he brought a lot of his buddies with him. Tenta returned as "Avalanche" in a ridiculously-similar gimmick to Earthquake, but was also "The Shark", one of many members of the Dungeon of Doom- a stable of ex-Hogan enemies united as WCW revolved around the Hulkster. Here, he was basically a lower-tier powerhouse, and he would miss out on the "nWo era" almost entirely, being seen only a handful of times as that most horrible of things- the Babyface Schmuck. And when the nWo were being "Cool Heels", Tenta just looked like a hapless imbecile, constantly losing.

-The sad end of Tenta's career was in a bizarre turn- he joined The Oddities- a band of rejects and weirdos assembled by the Insane Clown Posse. Disguising his shrinking physique under clothing inspired by South Park, he carried a Cartman doll with him in a weird attempt to be relevant to the pop culture of the day. This was during the red-hot Attitude Era, but the Oddities are considered one of the dumber aspects of it- they weren't over, they were never pushed, and they just filled a few minutes of TV time each week. Their segments were forgettable, and the entire squad was soon cut from the WWF.

-By this point, Tenta had lost his finisher, and become a PL 7.5 Jobber To The Stars.

Quake is one of those guys, like Henry Godwinn, where you don't realize until much later just HOW big he is. I mean, he was PUSHED as a big guy, but given that his opponents were Hulk Hogan & Tugboat- two monsters- and he also faced Andre the Giant and others in various situations, you forget just how monstrous a guy who's 6'5" legit and hugely built really is.

Bret Hart is the only guy I've heard make the claim that Tenta, not Haku, was the toughest guy in wrestling history. There aren't any incidences of Tenta biting off a guy's nose in a bar-fight, but looking at his legit scrap with Koji Kitao, I can buy him being in the running.

If nothing else,a dream match between Tenta&Haku, two of the toughest men at the time, would've been nice to see(Haku's finisher being one of the few that could theoreticaly work on him at the time). It's just to bad it never happened IRL......

Stevie Ray talked about Tenta going nuts after Arn Anderson cut that promo about Roddy Piper's 'family' not being experienced enough to take on the nWo. Arn had said it in the ring and looked right at Tenta as he said it.

Later on Tenta was legit mad as hell, destroying the trailer they were all dressing in later, with Stevie and Booker trying to calm him down.

Arn walked in the door right behind Tenta, heard Tenta raving about 'stretching' Arn and Stevie said Arn's eyes went wide and he just closed the door, Tenta never realizing he was there.

But yeah Tenta and Godwinn are both huge guys. I met Henry O. and he was a big guy, almost as big as Kamala....and I'll be honest the Sandman is deceptively big. Jim Duggan...was a big guy but didn't seem to be the proportions of those other guys

I'll never forget seeing a few wrestlers up close and being all "wow....I'm actually as tall as Booker T."

should rephrase.

old Duggan was probably still a bit stockier than the Sandman, but to me didn't seem as tall.

I wonder Jab....should some wrestlers have a 'better in Japan' type power-up? :D

or like Lawler could have a "Better in Memphis" type of thing

Some guys would probably have temporary upgrades. Scott Norton in particular was much more devastating in Japan.

It depends on the place, but NJPW tended to operate as if it had its own tiers, with even top-end Western guys heading over there and simply being part of the herd. It wasn't like ECW, which routinely made WWF Jobbers into top guys.

So that means a plus 2-3 PL boost in NJPW and ECW,but a +3-4 PL boost in TNA?

No- guys shouldn't earn PL boosts in companies other than Japan, I think. ECW is simply a lower-tier place.

I'd agree with that, but to me Jerry Lawler should be strongest in Memphis as Odin would be in Asgard. kind of a special case
