Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Post by Ares » Tue Jul 03, 2018 4:55 pm

So, after several animated series, Spidey is finally getting his first feature length animated film.

I'm hoping its good, but I'll admit, part of the reason for starting this thread was the discovery of this: http://boundingintocomics.com/2018/07/0 ... supporter/

So yeah. Kind of worried now.

I have little sympathy for Mark Kern. Considering how many times anyone expressing conservative or libertarian views (or just not being sufficiently hostile to the ) has been hounded by the Internet hate machine: driven out of jobs, driven out of academia, and driven out of restaurants... It was just over a year ago that CNN threatened to dox the creator of a Pro-Trump meme that they didn’t like. Businesses run by fairly middle of the road Republicans have been accused of being creepy Christian infiltration.

So, yeah, if a couple hundred jackasses on Twitter call for the same thing to happen to someone who is openly backing the Democratic Party...? I don’t condone it, but I understand it.

As for Antifa, well, I do wish the media would stop calling them by their acronym. They should be identified by their full and proper name: Antifaschistische Aktion.

The original Antifaschistische Aktion group was, basically, a communist street gang in Weimar Germany, forming about 1931-32. As was typical of radical political movements in those days, they held “rallies” and “marches” that were just rioting and brawling with their rivals in the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, Reichsbanner, Roter Frontkämpferbund, et. al. Antifaschistische Aktion were militant internationalist socialists in the Marxist/Leninist mold and thus rivals for power with the national socialists. As we all know, the NSDAP won out. Antifaschistische Aktion was basically defunct even before Hitler became Chancellor.

In the early 2000s, various communist groups in Germany coalesced around the “Antifaschistische Aktion” label and revived it. There was no direct link between the two groups, other than political ideology. Modern Antifaschistische Aktion adopted the iconography, sloganeering, and methods of the older group. One of their first headline grabbing acts was a series of protests (read: riots) in October, 2016 designed to disrupt celebrations of German reunification. I shit you not. The official stance of Antifaschistische Aktion is that the fall of the Berlin Wall is a bad thing and they want Deutsche Demokratische Republik (a.k.a. East Germany) to come back.

That should be all you need to know about Antifa.

I’m the descendant of Polish Jews. Whole swathes of my family were exterminated by the Nazis and the ones who survived that were exterminated, en masse, by the Commies. My paternal great-uncle (an honest to god Jewish history professor with an expertise in genealogy) spent decades looking for any living relatives of ours in Poland. He found none. My great-grandfather managed to get out of Poland in 1930... No records indicate that any blood relative of his who remained behind in Poland lived (or had any children who lived) to see the 1960s.

You should be ahppy to know that most "Antifa" groups, they aren't at least outside of Germany anything approaching a monolithic force, or even organized per se have more in common with Group 43, than "commies".

If you march under the red flag, demand collectivism, disdain private property, threaten violence to anyone who opposes your politics? You are a communist. Antifaschistische Aktion are communist thugs. They always have been.

As much as this pains me to do,i'm gonna do a very little bit of "Devil's Advocate" here....

First, before i even bring a Shield up,i just want to state FOR THE RECORD that i Personally detest Antifa(i'm gonna have to spell it like this,BG,'cause i'm not even going to ATTEMPT to spell it all out) and consider them the biggest bunch of Blind,Obstenant Sheep since the formation of a Certain Germanic Organization.

THAT being said,i think certain IDEAS from Communism could work, but only in smaller countries where it could be easier managed. The main reason the Russian Block collapsed was that the system couldn't handle a Nation of that size.

“Socialism sounds great. It has always sounded great. And it will probably always continue to sound great. It is only when you go beyond rhetoric, and start looking at hard facts, that socialism turns out to be a big disappointment, if not a disaster.” –Thomas Sowell, Socialism for the Uninformed; May 31, 2016

For my part, there's a good reason virtually every story I've seen Antifa turns up in devolved into violence (save for when the police were proactive and made them remove their masks), and why they've been labeled a domestic terrorist group.

Communism can't handle a nation the size of a village. It's been tried. Every time, it results in horrible poverty and starvation. Every time, it continues only as long as the strongest available power that manages to mooch off the system most successfully can threaten and browbeat the populace into submission. It fails on every single level to create a functional, productive society.

I’m sure if they just kill a few more million people, they can get communism to work this time.

I agree with you Marge...IN THEORY.

In theory, communism works.

IN THEORY.

If, theoretically, humans have an insectoid hive-mind with perfect knowledge, sure. Kind of. Except that a "theory" has to hold up to at least some basic scrutiny. Communist theory doesn't account for education, skill, or talent. It doesn't account for charity or miserliness. It doesn't account for jealousy or resentment. It doesn't account for conspiracy and favor-trading. It doesn't account for the reality of property held in common. It doesn't account for the logistics of resource distribution beyond a local level.

Communism isn't really a complete political theory that happens to be wrong in a few important ways. It's just a delusional fantasy dreamed up by mediocre thinkers who blame others for their lack of personal success. A system that is theoretically viable wouldn't kill 100M people in a single century.
