Story blurb:
The illegitimate daughter of Magistrate Carson Te'Amul and an especially gifted Laetan instructor at the academy, Beatriss Toskany, Serina inherited magic from two strong bloodlines. Her natural charm along with her father's continual interest (from a respectful distance) insured that she remained on the political radar of her father's rivals. When an unknown rival succeeded in bringing about Magistrate Te'Amul's 'legitimate' children, Carson arranged for his daughter to be assigned as attache to a Diplomatic mission leaving the borders and hopefully out of reach of Carson's rivals while Carson tried to work out which of his political rivals was so bold as to resort to murder. It almost worked.
[Optional] Along with the Diplomatic Envoy, Magistrate Te'Amul sent along a hired mercenary specifically to protect his daughter. This man had a reputation for effectiveness and efficiency and turned out to be worth every coin when the envoy was attacked, the mercenary finally revealed the danger Serina was in and fled the attack with her in tow despite the young woman wanting to stay and help.
When she left the envoy at her protector's insistance she grabbed the necesities - Her scribe kit, her instrument (flute?), one small pack of clothes and sundries. While the mercenary grabbed the practical things like food, and a tent.

--keep the Options,but link the Merc to Velth(with Camus' approval,of course) instead of keeping him unnamed.It not only works to establish some ties(and i was gonna have those picked do it regardless),but also causes a Neat Story element to show-up if either(or both) are picked:Who was the Rival?Why would they resort to Assassination?Did they hire the Antivan Crows or keep it "in House"?....MUHAHAHAH!
