I admittedly never managed to finish DA 2, nor did I play Inquisition... >>;

But I gather that there was some form of mage rebellion going on?

Thank you I.G.O.R......Now,here's what happened(mild spoiler for a couple of side missions);
DRAGON AGE 2: one of the side-missions for helping out The Chantry involves escorting a Qunari Mage to supposed safety,only to find out that it was a set-up by high-up Chantry Sister that asked you in the first place(she was a real B%#&h,so i forgot her name.).Said Mage,however,asked to be set on fire as it would've been the only way he was truely 'Free'...

As for the Mage Rebellion,that was all Ander's "Lighting the Match" by blowing up the Kirkwall Chantry itself,killing EVERYONE inside,even the Revered Mother!

The game takes place before these events though I believe, right? So while not exactly liked, the Mages should still have the same general opinion they'd always had. Least... For the moment.

Pretty much.You see,there's certain Fraternities in a Mage Circle(as well as all Mage Organisations,even Tevinter has them,only more open)...
THE AEQUITARIANS: Usually act as Moderator's of Disagreement's between fraternities.Think about them like Refree's...
THE FORMARI: these are made up of the Tranquil(and now Dagna ) who do all the tradework and PR.They're also the only ones to be able to work with Lyrium...
THE ISOLATIONISTS:these folk want total seperation from Society(either for their own safety or so they can study in peace).
THE LIBERTARIANS: this is the crew Anders is part of,only he's a more radical example.Most just want to have the freedom to choose what they want to do...
THE LOYALISTS :these people want them an the Chantry even closer together,to the point that they(like the Templar's that guard them) are seen as an Official Arm of the Chantry itself.
LUCROSIANS:to these (mostly)Miserly souls,Magic is power in it's simplest form,and therefore it's the Mage's job to aquire Power in all it's forms....

Yep, I'read up in them a fair bit by now. Curious to see if anything we do will end up inducing canon, or if we simply get swept up in the inevitable Darkspawn hoards... Time will tell!

made modifications. Now introducing Serina Valkonsark. Background and ability spread different.

As for Nevin training, please take a look at my optional tie in in the backstory. tl;dr version is that the Altus Diplomat was fostering/training the former-slave who got out with Serina when the caravan was attacked (along with any other PCs who want that in their back story). Serina may feel it her duty to continue that tutelage. Plus having her own elf might be cute. Like, having a Chihuahua or something.

Macyn, any input one an additional language that she would know that might actually be useful in the game?

Though maybe the diplomat was being more covert, and probably one of those rare few actually genuine souls about and was more acting as cover for him to escape then actually ibtent on training him long term. Of course, to his misfortune, the one with geniune intent was killed and he's left with the stuck up brat who'd provably turn him in at the earliest opportunity (least, in his mind that's what shed do).

Okay,we have....
Qunlat:The main language of the Qunari.With their constant fighting with the Imperium,you might've pick it up(especially if Daddy had any dealings with Seheron)
Dwarven:An especially useful language if your dealing with anything involving Lyrium...
Dalish:a lot of older magical writing's are in Dalish,so it might be useful...

I like her, it sounds like she could add in that little spice of humor the group sorely needs just by existing.

If it helps, when Serina heard something about Nevin being both a mage and a former slave she immediately ranted how his former owners were idiots (not surprising as she thinks a LOT of people are idiots).

"I mean, mages as servants, yes, but never slaves. We have a kitchen mage who preserves all our food with a glyph so it doesn't spoil. She even lights the cooking fires when they go out. And of course we have battle mage guards but mages aren't, and can never be, slaves. I hope whoever 'owned' you was reprimanded and fined."

[and please let me know if this attitude is out of character for her station in society. It's basically such a certainty in the superiority of mages in society that the fact that Nevin used to be a slave is absurd. And, like most things she considers to be absurd, shall be promptly ignored.]
