BACKGROUND:
Todd grew-up in a rather...poor side of Mega City(due mostly to his Deadbeat Dad The Crusher) and had to make due with what he could get together.His mother(one of Clyde's IWF groupies) was forced to work at a Russian Restaurant as a Hostess so they could at least have something to live on.He practically lived at the Restaurant when he was younger,getting close to the owners(The Svyenkos) and being "Adopted/Not Adopted" into the family.

One day,while heading towards School,he was acousted by a Local Street Gang(Most likely The Baseball Furries,but he can never be sure...) and forced to fight.They cornered him,ironically enough,in the same place his Dad had his first fight with Mega-Woman.Something about him just seemed to...come alive during the brawl.Their bat's started breaking on his Skin,he was bodily throwing them through the building,he even managed to Dead-lift a Parked Car! After that impressive display of Strength,the Furries(?) ditched,leaving Todd with torn cloths and searching for awnsers.The only thing he he could recall doing before the fight started was cutting his hand on a shard of old glass(which,for some reason,was now fully healed).Ditching School for that day,he went straight to the Restaurant(called Svenko's Fine Americana Dinning,come try the Boar! :D)
,explaining the entire thing to his rather suprised "Sort-of Extended Family"(especially after he proved it by casually picking up the Meat Truck "Uncle Rasputin" came over in...) and asking for help...

Needless to say,Todd has tried to "Clean the Family Name" ever since(With Mixed results....see Complications for more).He was named "The Mustang" by his "Uncle Ivan" who seems to have a thing for John Wayne Westerns...

Why Are You On The Team?: Todd was one f the first recruited due to him having done some Bodyguarding for one of HuMayne Enterprises board of Director's...

Why Might You Have To Be Away?:To Todd,who never had his Bio-dad in his life much,Family comes first to him above everything else...

Why Might You Have To Leave?:His Bio-Dad(The Crusher) might tire of being "Everyone's Joke" and,finding out his Son has greater powers than him,kidnapp the Svyenko's or his Mom and force Todd to help him.After it was all over(with Crusher either Deafeted,Dead from Poer overload,or Repentant),Mustang may either be Dead,Powerless,or forced into an early "Retirement"....

Complications:

Temper: Tachyon always has something of a short fuse (pun intended) and tends to act impatient and impulsive against those who move slower than she is (almost everybody except her daughter).

Relationships: Her family (see above). While sometimes she is not on very good terms with them, they are still family and she tries to help them out if she can. Also her two year daughter, Leigh occupies much of her time when she is not "superheroing".

Addiction: Tachyon always has a serious hankerin' for caffeine and alcohol. (Not necessarily in that order.)

Enemy: Her "Hit Parade Of Crooks!", a sort of rogue gallery of bad guys who always want to beat up on or even kill Tachyon. The Parade includes: Bulldog and Tailgator (From Watchguard), Professor Jackanapes (From Threat Report. "Ah mean what in tarnation is it with the idea of speedsters and talkin' evil monkeys? Is it one of those Chocolate and Crunchy Peanut Butter combos fanboys dream up?"), White Knight (rarely!) and Goanna (From Freedom City) and the Thieves' Guild (The Bola, the Firebug, the Huckster, Looking Glass, the Mad Maple, the Weather Mistress. From the core rulebook, deluxe edition.)

Reputation: Reckless speedster with a stereotypical redneck attitude problem out for glory, fame and especially wealth instead of fighting the good fight.

Power Loss: The cybernetic limbs are subject to severe damage from intense magnetic attacks and they also need constant repairs, parts and maintenance from the Promethean Institute.

Disability: Without her cybernetic limbs, she cannot walk much less move.

Secrets: Tachyon secretly distrusts and dislikes most superhumans though she manages to keep a smiling face and act like a southern belle albeit one with anger issues when fighting alongside them (one must not look bad in front of the media). Also one of her kin is the infamous superpowered racist White Knight (Aileen and Danny Boy still fight over the TV remote at their very infrequent family gatherings like Thanksgiving). Both are aware of each other's identities and make a serious effort to avoid one another.

Abilities: 40, Skills: 24, Powers: 71, Advantages: 5, Defenses: 10 = 150 pp total.

Why Are You On The Team?: Tachyon mostly feels its her one shot at redemption though she is loathe to admit this to others.

Why Might You Have To Be Away?: "Real Life" keeps all of us from the table sometimes. So just in case, I should have a reason why you would need to miss a mission or two. She needs her arms and legs to be working and only the Promethean Institute has the necessary equipment and technical components to do just that as well as the proper knowledge to implement them. Tachyon has to go to them for periodic maintenance and repairs.

Why Might You Have To Leave?: As above although occasionally Tachyon also takes off to visit her daughter in Nashville and often she does not give advance word to her teammates about her absences, figuring its none of their business anyway...

History:

One wouldn't blame himself at keeping an wary eye on Aileen Baker despite her occasional good deeds. She grew up in Nashville, the center of country western music and like so many girls with stars in their eyes, she wanted to make it in the big city as a country singer while she was waiting on tables at the local Chili's restaurant.

Until the car accident which made her a paraplegic... So she was driving drunk and texting at the time. It was the other guy who ran that red light and wrecked her daddy's station wagon who was really responsible!

Her good for nothing husband, Leroy, a state trooper left her and their baby daughter for another woman and in desperation to pay the mounting medical bills, Aileen had agreed (against her family's wishes) to be part of an statewide medical experiment sponsored by the Promethean Institute, a private think tank based out in Memphis to help the physically handicapped by surgically implanting cybernetic components directly inside limbs (or so they said).

Of course, in her eagerness to walk again (and getting the money offered to her), Aileen didn't bother to read the fine print...

Roughly 67% of the organs, tissues and bones of both Aileen's arms and legs were replaced by mechanized parts instead merely operating on just her legs which she was initially led to believe but she found that she couldn't do a thing about it as she already signed the legally binding contract allowing the Institute to do what they wished to her body. At least the scientists covered the limbs with a special synthetic polymer which closely resembled human skin and linked to the nerve ends of the few organs (muscles and tendons) still left in her limbs that allowed Aileen to touch and feel things.

While the Institute's board of directors did not anticipate her survival after a few days of wearing the implants due to the high chance that her body might violently reject them, no one not even they realized that not only Aileen had survived with no side effects whatsoever but there was the unexpected things from the implants that happened right after the surgery as well like the time when Aileen was suddenly jogging a bit too fast and almost colliding upon a wall at a very high speed ( nearly 100 MPH) in the Institute's gymnasium.

Silas Moore, the Director in charge of the Promethean Institute and its chief scientist found out what was happening and after learning that the experiments could never be repeated with other volunteers (test subjects really; luckily, the Institute had its own morgue complete with incinerators...), decided to expose Aileen to further field testing by having her become a superhero and promoting the Institute's best interests by being its public spokesperson.

Aileen of course was reluctant. She wanted to be famous to be sure but to become a famous freak like those muties she often saw on TV? No way!

But Moore was nothing if not persuasive, stating that as the cybernetic parts were the legal property of the Promethean Institute, they would by all rights have them removed and then have Aileen thrown out onto the streets while at the same time making certain that she will be sued for breach of contract. At least by going along with the plan, she can have free room and board in the Institute premises and financial support for her daughter as well as regular maintenance and repairs on the implants by some of the best technicians in the state if needed.

It took Aileen only one second to think about all this and say: "Deal, but i want a few of those big fancy plasmee tvs fer me and mah family and hooked up with all the cable channels like Netflix."

"That's Plasma, my dear Ms. Baker and of course we at the Institute can provide a entire package. 400+ channels..." began Dr. Moore before Aileen held up a hand to shush him.

"Quit yer gabbin', Doc. Ya had me at plasmatic."

The next few weeks were like a literary blur (no pun intended) as Aileen was subjected to more tests and was given the codename of Tachyon which to her sounded like a type of vacuum cleaner; she much preferred White Lightning but was overruled. Tachyon was even given a spot in a television commercial endorsing products such as the short lived Tachyonize@ brand of personalized sports gear, all under the aegis of the Promethean Institute.

But her arrogance and crass sense of commercialism made her unpopular with the general public and many "traditional" superheroes where she became "the bad girl" almost everyone loved to hate, especially on internet blogs where she is both adored and loathed. More celebrity than heroine to many people, Tachyon wasn’t really taken seriously. Not by the public, nor by her sponsors from Promethean, and especially not by her opponents. The recording contracts she was expecting from the Country Western Music Industry never came her way. Worse, Tachyon's impulsive, erratic behavior was scaring her little daughter, Leigh and alienating the rest of her family. Tachyon to her credit had noticed all this and tries to change her attitude with mixed results.

Background: Alessio was born and raised raised in Queens, an only child his family was tight knit and loving. His father, Lucio worked long hours for a locally owned construction company, while his mother worked as a nurse at the Queens Hospital Center. As such Alessio spent much of his early childhood at his grandparents apartment where he learned a love of football from his grandfather, Fabrizio, Italian from his grandmother, Valentia, and developed much of his moral values from his grandparent's strict Roman Catholic beliefs.

When Alessio was 9 his father lost his job at the construction company, unable to find work increasing stresses between his parents eventually led to a messy divorce. While his grandparents did not approve of the divorce, they did stand solidly with their daughter in law and grandson. Due to the timing of the divorce, Fabrizio & Valentia's disapproval, and Lucio's refusal to accept that the marriage was over, the proceedings stretched out over years. Shortly before the divorce was finalized Fabrizio D'Isabella passed away due to a massive stroke. During this period of divorce, Alessio worked his through confusion, frustration, guilt and shame by throwing himself into physical activities, football, running, and then in an effort to increase his balance, he tried skateboarding, and then free running. However, after his grandfather's passing, he became angry with his father, blamed him for the death of his grandfather, so he began to take more risks during his free running. When he was first admitted to QHC for a broken wrist, his mother immediately found out and admonished him. However, it was Valentia who reminded her that boys were doing much worse things than running and jumping off of things, and he was still, at heart, a good boy.

Alessio wasn't blind to the things his peers were doing either, and one evening while out free running, he came across a group of youths bullying one of the students from his public school, Marc Benetez. He tried to intervene, but as the youths turned on him he fled, with his athleticism he was able to outpace his aggressors. Panting, out of breath he run into across the street, and was nearly hit by a NYPD patrol car, the officers, on investigation discovered the youth, and after a brief period of questioning placed him in the back seat while following his directions to where he had last seen Benetez. The officers were able to disperse the crowd, and Marc had only suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Both Marc and the police praised Allesio's actions, but he, himself, felt both guilt and shame for fleeing from the situation rather than being able to confront his friends attackers.

During Alessio's final year of high school, his mother was hospitalized and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The D'Isabella's medical insurance was unable to cover the mounting costs of treatment. As he'd been devastated by his grandfather's death years earlier, he was terrified of his mother's impending passing, so in a moment of fear and isolation he reached out to his father. He demanded the financial support that he'd neglected to his mother since their divorce, at which point Lucio arranged to meet his son. The two spoke and Alessio soon discovered that his father had been paying support for years, but his mother refused to accept the money, so the funds had been transferred into an account in his son's name.

After speaking with his father, Alessio, curious how his father had earned the money which was now in an account under his name, followed his father. An urban acrobat, he was easily able to evade his father's casual observations and tail his father as he surreptitiously slipped into a subway tunnel. He turned back at that point, unable to follow his father in the darkness, so he returned home and returned with a flashlight and worked through the tunnels until he came to a high tech door, using a keypad beside the door, Alessio remembering one of his father's traits gambled and entered a code. 1, 555, 33, 7777, 7777, 444, 666. Alessio's father was old school, and still used a flip phone, his texts short and truncated due to the number of times he needed to hit the keys. A, L, E, S, S, I, O. His name.

Why Are You On The Team?: He mostly feels its his one shot at redemption though he is loathe to admit this to others.

Why Might You Have To Be Away?: "Real Life" keeps all of us from the table sometimes. So just in case, I should have a reason why you would need to miss a mission or two. See below.

Why Might You Have To Leave?: Occasionally Quicksilver takes off to visit his daughter...and wife at the Inhuman Refuge and often he does not give advance word to his teammates about his absences, figuring its none of their business anyway...

History:

One wouldn't blame himself at keeping an wary eye on Pietro Maximoff despite the latter's occasional good deeds. As the son of the infamous mutant terrorist, Magneto and an early supporter of his anti human policies, Quicksilver would have fell down the dark path of hatred forever had not he and his sister, Wanda changed their minds about their father and left him to seek their own paths. Pietro even met and married an enchanting member of the Inhumans (an hidden offshoot of humanity with metahuman abilities ) named Crystal who worked by his side briefly. They even have a daughter, Luna.

However, he never really lost his arrogance toward normal people, making him one of the most unpopular of the superheroes and alienating his teammates, including his own sister Wanda. Eventually Crystal left him and took their daughter with her back to the Inhumans though they still have both mixed feelings for each other.

While Pietro struggled to put his private life in order, he also tries to moderate his elitist attitudes and find his place in the world as a true hero.

But it is quite hard when the worst enemy is oneself.

So what kind of resources are there, in universe, for young/teenage heroes trying to develop their abilities? The sidekick idea seems like a culturally frowned upon route- are there schools like Claremont (or Xavier's)? Not thinking of a school age hero, per se, but possibly someone who got their powers fairly young and has grown into them. Specifically, filing off the campaign specific details of one of my defunct game Hero High characters and aging them up to college years (and probably going for the PL 8/150 line).

"Hero High" is one of my favorite concepts, but was intended for a future part of this world. Various examples have existed over the years, however, largely with the Teen Guard of the '60s.
