I've posted a brief reply to your post, McGuffin, but I'm gonna hold off on advancing the plot until everyone's posted at least once.

Perfectly understandable, I'll hold off until everyone else gets a foot in the door. I'm on UCT+3 timezone so I just got home from work. Just as a way of explaining my odd hours :D

Makes sense. I had wondered everyone's timezones, but I know that some people don't want to share.

I'm mostly on regular eastern US time- I can often post from work, or at home nights/weekends, but my time online can vary depending on RL responsibilities. Unfortunately I've been stuck training someone new at work the last two days- so no posting, and when I get home my brain is basically tapioca. Tomorrow I should be back on regular schedule unless our coverage gets borked.

I'll try to get SOMETHING up tonight, and I'll be adding my sheet here next.

Also, advance notice- I'm on vacation week of 6/23 to 6/30; should have access but time might be limited.

>Okay, so here we go- can't have a DC-based game without at least one applicant from the Bat-family (or, well, at least one applicant who REALLY, REALLY WANTS to be in the Bat-family). So here's mine. I will be adding and editing stuff in as my schedule allows.

She also has an exceptional memory (like many members of the Bat-family), and an instinctive gift for physical movement- now that she has been getting training from serious experts her skills are improving VERY quickly... Description: Miranda is just above average height, with an athletic build (though she often dresses in loose clothing which hides this somewhat). She has a pale olive complexion common to those of Italian ancestry, big brown eyes, and long black hair (worn loose or in a pony tail in civilian ID, and tightly braided in costume). She is moderately attractive, but does her best to look plain, wearing little makeup and dressing in a modest, simple fashion- she dresses like the stereotypical ideal of a young teacher or librarian. In costume, she wears an outfit fairly similar to Batgirl, though her cowl lacks the pointed 'ears' and is not adorned with a bat symbol. She does have a knee-length cape (the outer edges are semi-rigid plates that flare like wings)- it is clipped with a stylized raven pin. If she does take up the mantle of Robin, her costume will include full leg coverage (and she will probably cut her hair short and switch her current cowl for a domino mask).

Point Accounting: Abilities 66pp; +Defenses 16pp; +Skills 22pp; +Advantages 36pp; +Powers 10pp= 150/ 150pp

Future planning: Some slight improvements to her metabolism, and her movement abilities (Parkour!); Improve equipment; Mainly improvement to Skills and Advantages, focusing on Interaction, Investigation, and then Combat.

BACKGROUND:
History: It is tough to grow up in an Italian family in Gotham City without being falling into the influence of the mob- but Miranda Cortesi has given it a good shot. To truly understand her story, though, you have to start years ago, by understanding her father's story- and his secret...

Paolo Cortesi was a Gotham boy, born and bred, and he even went to school with a couple of Falcone "associates" back in the day, but he never had time for "that life". When some of his friends were learning the ropes, he was hard at work in the school shop- and when they stepped into goon apprenticeships after graduation, Paolo went straight into the Army as a combat engineer- and after the Army into trade school, and a good union job. From then on, he lived for his wife, and in due time, for his kids- Miranda and Paolo junior. He still saw his "old friends" around the neighborhood, but he kept them at arm's length. Paolo busted his butt for HIS family, instead of THE family (no matter who was on top of the mob hierarchy at the time)- it was not uncommon to see that Straight Flush plumbing van anywhere in the city, any time day or night. They probably could have moved out to the suburbs, but Paolo was a city boy at heart, and despite his distance, he had friends there. The old Don, Carmine Falcone was even (literally) a godfather to Paolo's kids- he used to joke that even the fanciest mansion had a stopped toilet now and then...

The secret, of course, was that Paolo Cortesi was something more (or less) than human- whether due to a speck of alien DNA in his ancestry, or some other mutation, he could assume a nearly liquid amorphous shape that corroded organic matter. Able to travel through the pipes he knew so well and capable of dissolving many substances, he was the perfect 'cleaner' or assassin of last resort- and in all the world, only old Carmine Falcone knew his secret. The Don used this resource very rarely, allowing Paolo a great deal of time to maintain his honest front- and when the Don died, he passed on the secret to his successor, though he did not give Paolo's name, just a contact method. When the Regime took over, the Falcone family, in the usual Mafia tradition, tried to play both sides- outwardly they supported the Regime, but they did their share of favors for the Insurgency as well. This worked out, in the long run, about as well as one might expect- tired of the duplicity, Superman put his foot (or rather, his fist and his heat vision) down, and in one fell swoop dealt a crippling blow to the Falcone empire. Paolo Cortesi was also killed, but he was simply assumed to be an innocent victim, caught in the crossfire.

The Cortesi family was simply devastated, and Paolo's wife sunk into an angry depression from which she has never fully recovered.
>By this point, Miranda already knew she was different, and had begun to improve her skills (secretly).
-Age 12 (6 years ago, Regime year 0/1): Miranda, realizing that she is unusually gifted, and realizing that the Regime is making the world more dangerous, not less, begins to develop her gifts in secret. Shortly thereafter she draws the notice of Oracle's network, but because of her age she is not actively recruited. Miranda does get some use from her gifts by playing Little League- it is, in fact, her success here that first clues her in to the fact that she might not be normal...

-Age 14 (4 years ago, Regime year 2-ish): Miranda's father and a large chunk of the Falcone family are wiped out by Superman and the Regime (though Paolo Cortesi is considered to be a bystander caught up by accident). Miranda has tested her gifts, and begun to study them more thoroughly (In her last year of Little League, her team wins the state championship, led my Miranda's success in a number of roles). Her intensified training draws the attention of Oracle (now in the process of becoming Batgirl once more)- she is still not ready to recruit, but Oracle opens a file on her for future coverage. Paolo Cortesi junior (age 12) is engaged in petty street crime and is attacked by one of the Regime's soldiers- he survives (somehow, possibly possessed of 'abilities as well?) and escapes. Maria Cortesi, still mourning her husband, becomes a virtual recluse.

-Age 15: Batgirl sends a message to Miranda, telling her she had been noticed, and offering more specialized training. After some indecision, Miranda accepts. While she manages to maintain some semblance of a normal high school existence, her abilities are greatly improved by having professionally prepared training (this replaces her softball team activities, which is kind of a relief, since people were starting to notice her, and the LAST thing she wanted was to be noticed). Miranda meets Vinny Vincenzo at school, and begins dating him, over her mother's strong objection- Vinny's father is a member of what is left of the Falcone organization.

-Age 16: Miranda finds her father's diary, and learns his secret. Her commitment to her training grows stronger- between school, training, and work with local charities, she is almost never home, and breaks up with Vinny (or more accurately, begins a cycle of regular break-ups and make-ups).

-Age 17: During her senior year of high school, she decides to apply to Burnside College, staying close to home instead of going to school farther away. With the collapse of the Regime, she stops training for a short time- But the events of Injustice 2 bring her back into the game. While she had been out 'in the field' a few times as part of her training (while supervised), she takes part in actual action for the first time, assisting with evacuation and crowd control when Brainiac's forces abduct several cities- she ends up wearing an old Batgirl costume and using the codename "Grace". When everything gets wrapped up, she takes a step back from superhero work- or, more accurately decides NOT to take the next step forward, at least for now.

-She is accepted to Burnside College, and plans to attend, majoring in criminology and psychology. While she does not engage in field work, she does keep up with her practicing, just in case. On the night of her senior prom, she learns that her on-and-off boyfriend Vinny does not intend to go to college, and instead plans to join the "family business" (that is, the Falcone family mob, which is now recruiting heavily amongst the younger generation, trying to rebuild)- they have a screaming fight, and Miranda dumps him, supposedly for good. During the summer, her brother, now 16, is jumped and almost killed by henchgoons for (unknown villain), trying to stake out territory in Gotham City. Once again, her brother survives, though barely (and, once again, the injuries he received SHOULD have killed him, but did not). Miranda digs out her borrowed costume to hunt down those responsible, administering a thorough beating before leaving them to the police. Unknown to her, both the pursuit and the fight are observed by Batman, who was looking for the same people (though he was planning to follow them to their master). Batman reaches out to Barbara, and they decide to offer Miranda an internship of sorts- while Batman does not plan to be as active as he once was, neither does he intend to hang up his cowl- and he is, for the moment, fresh out of Robins... While Miranda is not ready for THAT yet, perhaps working with a team her age will make a difference.

Complications:
-Redemption/ Do Good (Motivation)- Miranda is a good person at heart, and she grew up idolizing her father- it was very traumatic to learn that he was both a metahuman and a murderer. While she always had a drive to help people and do good, that desire has multiplied now that she knows she must make up for her father's dark deeds. In addition to her school work and her secret career, she also spends time every week volunteering at a homeless shelter and soup kitchen run by her church (this doubles as street level rumor gathering). When she was younger, she wanted to become a police officer (though she never told her father, and he would have been furious if he had known)- but once she found out her father's secret, she knew that just being a cop (especially in Gotham, where the police are so often ineffective) wouldn't be enough.

-Relationship (family- mother and younger brother): Miranda's mother Maria is a virtual recluse, leaving her house only for vital church events- she still idolizes her husband, and is fanatically anti-'mask', seeing costumed heroes and villains both as the worst scourge of humanity. Miranda has not spoken to her in months, but still loves her. She can Never learn her husband's secret, or Miranda's... Miranda's younger brother Paolo junior is sixteen and a rebellious high school student- but he has twice survived attacks which should have killed him. Does he have some trace of his father's superhuman powers, or is he just lucky? And what happens if he gets into trouble again- or if the mob, especially hungry for young recruits these days, approaches him?

-Relationship (Vinny and the mob): Vinny Vincenzo (or just"VV") has been Miranda's boyfriend on-and-off for several years (currently it is off)- she still loves him, but is furious at some of his life choices. Following the collapse of the Regime and the events of Injustice 2, the various mob families of Gotham City have begun a strong recruiting push to recover from being almost wiped out- the Falcone family in currently on top of the heap (but for how long?), and Vinny is officially a junior goon. Who knows what will happen? maybe he will learn his lesson and get out of the life, maybe he will die on the streets, maybe he will get turned into some kind of inhuman hench-beast- but whatever happens Miranda still cares about him. The flip side of this is that she is more likely to see mobsters and other 'human' criminals in a far more favorable light than costumed/superhuman/non-human crooks.

-Whose streets? MY streets: Like Batman, Miranda sees Gotham as her 'turf', her home, her place to protect.

-Motivation- prove herself: While she has serious talent, she lacks field experience, and she is desperate to prove that she has "what it takes". She wants to convince herself, but she also wants to prove herself in the eyes of Barbara (her mentor, and, to be honest, her idol), and of course, to The Man (the Bat-man). Their approval (or disapproval) could shape the rest of her life, and she does not want to be seen as a slacker, or to make any mistakes. In addition, despite her abilities her lack of actual practical experience could get her into trouble...

-Secret identity: Batman and Batgirl/ Oracle both know who she is, but to the rest of the world she is a college student with an interest in psychology and criminal justice (tempered with charity/ social work).

-Brain trust: Miranda has been taught to believe in free will and self-control, and she carries a number of secrets. She has a very unfavorable view of those who traffic in mind-reading and mind control- it is not quite fear, but certainly deep concern, even more than against the strongest physical foes. Even those who claim to be allies are suspect, and those who are foes immediately make themselves a priority target. She is even trying to learn certain mental tricks, to harden her mind against unwanted intrusion. This is closely related to the next point).

-Secret keeper: Miranda loves secrets- both finding them out, and collecting them as her own personal treasure hoard- it doesn't help that she has real problems trusting people that she does not know very well. She works to find out new secrets, and she jealously guards the ones she has (especially her own)- though she sometimes offers up a choice tidbit so people know she is paying attention. She might get into trouble pursuing a particular secret, or she might keep something as a personal secret when she really should have told people. (This is one area that is definitely planned for her personality to grow- for her to learn to trust people, and to be able to share information more easily, especially with team mates).

>
>Continuity details for review/ approval:
-Barbara Gordon, who was already Oracle before the Regime, is a graduate of Burnside College, and given the timeline presented is about 30, having started her original career fairly young. While she has returned to her Batgirl persona following her surgery, she spent most of the later years of the Regime and the period of Injustice 2 maintaining Oracle's network (outside the network of Brother Eye, though greatly reduced)- there is currently no one person in the role of Oracle (it is instead several people, including Proxy/ Wendy Harris), operating under Barbara's coordination (when she isn't too busy doing Batgirl stuff).
-The Falcone family tried to play both sides during the Regime- and they failed. Superman dealt the family a crippling blow in Year 2 or so, but the Regime wasn't exactly good to any of the other families in town, and the Falcone family has recovered fastest; the are currently top dog again (for how long). Alberto and Sofia were killed, and Mario leads the family now- Carmine died before the Regime took power.

Okay, I finally got an IC post up.

Regarding the whole HQ thing, Miranda would be theoretically willing to spend a point or two on a group HQ if we want to do that- but not right now (definitely no points to spare), and it won't be easy. I could have easily spent another 50 PP without changing her PL caps an inch, just to get her advantages and skills where I want them.

But that is, after all, the whole point to doing the hero thing- to grow and develop. Let's go earn some rewards! Oh, yeah- and stop some bad guys too. Definitely want to do that.

It figures I'd introduce one of the few surviving members of the local police from nearby Gotham only to have him unceremoniously killed off before he gets more than a few words out.

Oh well.

EDIT: Let me know if I'm not letting you guys do enough. I feel like I might be rushing a tad, and I don't want to do that deliberately.

Does that mean the two of us get a surprise round on Blast Master? Also, how far away is he from where Vee is?
