YAHATA

"Jin!" Yahata called out to the swordswoman, noticing the clamor of high spirits from within the barracks. "It sounds like our men are eager to put some real kenjutsu into practice? Have you heard from Kuroi? I'm sure he has managed to already kill something while unattended."

There was also the matter of Akihito; had his scouting mission been successful? Hopefully that damn irritable horse didn't buck his rider off and leave the archer for dead.

The reunion

Post by Camus »

As if summoned by the god of war, Kuroi turns the corner, lead by a guard, who hastily trots ahead. "Here Kuroi-dono, here!" he exclaims, half excited, half relieved to have found what the spooky yokai demanded,
A few minutes before Kuroi had walked into the castle again, searching for Soyokaze, and one of the guards was sent to escort him to the old healer's location. They had already been to the temple, where the monks directed them towards the vantage point Soyokaze was heading. Eventually they managed to catch up.
Kuroi was dragging a rather familiar person, the elder son of Oda Nobuhide. The man seems to be delirious and totally wasted, as if he had drank all the sake in the Emperor's vaults.

Soyokaze immediately sets about the Healer's arts and requesting what information Kuroi could provide.

Upon learning it was likely and assassin's poison he tries to determine the nature of the toxin and the remedy thereof.

It would start with a purgative and very likely a bleeding.

"They'll do." She sniffed, though there was the feintest hint of a smile at the edge of her lips. When attention was drawn to the demon and her Lord's brother, any hint of hapiness was wiped away. "Kuroi, explain! What happened to the two of you?"

Kuro didn't have much to offer to Soyokaze aside from the unwell son of the Tiger of Owari. He had mentioned that the man had likely drank whatever ailed him instead of being cut, and that the assassin had been a tengu.

He stood unflinching in the face of Dai Jin's demands. "The noble lord had snuck off to enjoy drink and entertainment. Unfortunately for him the drink was poisoned, or he ingested prodigious amounts of it incredibly quickly, and the entertainment tried to assassinate him. The tengu in question won't live to make the same mistake again."

"You ended the Tengu I imagine." Soyokaze says with a frown in his voice. "Did you check it's possessions for a possible antidote?"

It's a miracle that she manages to keep her calm under such a revelation. "Our enemy has decided to consort with such spirits, is it? Hmph. If there is one, there is bound to have been more. We can't afford to perform a sweep of the city at this stage, but it may be prudent to check on our most strategically critical locations and individuals."

In a way, Yahata was jealous of Kuroi; the yokai had done battle with a yokai and slain it on his own. The demigod would have appreciated a similar opportunity to warm-up before the quickly approaching battle was upon them all.

"It looks like Nobuyuki owes you his life," Yahata commented after the demon had recounted the events. "It would've been nice to find out why such supernatural creatures are aiding Imagawa, but I won't be disappointed in their death. Jingu is the only deadly bird we need within these walls." The former god nodded at Dai Jin. "I agree. I'll go make sure that Lord Oda is safe."

Kuro dodged Soyokaze's gaze as he answered the healer.

The alchemist is able to identify the poison used on Nobuyuki. A rare concoction used to control the subject. With regular doses over time the target becomes a puppet, dependant on the poison like it was opium. Apparently the young prince has not been overly exposed, which explains his sorry state. With ease, Soyokaze brews an antidote, mixing some ingredients in his bare, deft hands, and gently blows the powder in the noble's face, who promptly collapses unconscious. An expected reaction, as his body fights off the poison. The spirit of the wind guesses he will remain like that for at least 6 hours.

Aged, cracked hands wring a wetted cloth to take the excess powder from his hand. "He shall be out a quarter-day." The aged man pronounces.

"If you bring me the Tengu's remains I may be able to determine more. Was there only one assassin?" Soyokaze asks.

Again, the averted gaze. "There was another one, but it fled rather than die by my hands and I had my hands full protecting the young lord and dealing with the one assailant so had to leave them to run like a coward."

"Well, it may be too late to root out this infiltration completely before conflict occurs." The old healer says. "And I'd be hesitate to unleash the imperial inquisitors on every spirit-made-flesh in the city." he says with a forced nonchalance.

The siege

Post by Camus »

The remaining virtues check on the important members of the clan and are relieved when they find no traces of the Tengu assassins.

Everyone gets to their posts to make the final preparations, taking care to finish the last details of the defenses, prepare any last time gear, and check on soldiers and medicines.
As the day draws to an end, the horizon turns alight with the fires of the siege engines, and the air fills with drums of war. From the walls, the banners of Imagawa can be seen, buffeted by the winds of the evening. An air of anticipation, anxiety and doom blows in the streets of Owari. The poets that had chosen the name of the city, literally meaning "the End", did so as to symbolize the end of the search for a place to live, but couldn't have foresaw that today, it could be taken as a bad omen.
As the enemy army advances, their numbers can be felt heavy in the hearts of the Oda clan, the grass plains were now covered with straw hats and black, chitinous samurai armour. The moon plays on the sharp shiny blades of the enemy, making the illusion that it was a black and glittering ocean that was about to wash away Owari, like a tsunami. There is also something else glimmering in their armours, as if imbued by magic. The defenders, however, do not cower behind the walls. They remain stalwart and ready.

Suddenly, from the exposed side of the fortress, the roaring of water catches both defenders and attackers by surprise. A tumultuous river comes crashing through a dry river bed, and completely covers the side of Owari's walls. As Dai Jin peeks over the wall, she could have swear she saw the smug face of Hama in the foam of the water.
Not paying much more attention to the surging river, a battalion surges forward, and with a shout of "BANZAI!" charged the walls. Inside the fortress, the archers on the first wall readied their bows, and the ashigaru and samurai their weapons to repel the invaders...
The arrows fly from both sides, and death starts, as some archers fall from the wall, pierced, and some soldiers are stop mid-run with a lethal wound.
The wave of soldiers clashed against the wall, deploying ladders and climbing up. The defenders pelt them with arrows, but do not find a good purchase, their armour seem to be able to deflect the incoming attacks.
Finally the sound of metal against metal can be heard, as the samurai clash their katanas.

Assessination

Post by Camus »

Yahata and Dai Jin study the flow of combat, and both device that the magical enhancements of the Imagawa army re going to slowly push the advantage over the defenders. It would be imperative to find the sorcerer responsible and put an end to his or her life. That sounds like a work for Kuroi.
Both tacticians also note that the defenders are in need of some healing, which Soyokaze could provide, if he can get to the frontline unharmed.

OOC: Given that there are 4 of you you can split oin groups of 2, or send Kuroi alone and the rest head for the frontline, to protect Soyokaze. Both leaders (Kuroi and Soyokaze) will be making the main rolls, the others can aid.
