Dragonmage

He saw it coming and at the last moment, he almost contemptuously stepped just enough to the side to make the machine look useless.

ooc

The Net trying to capture Dragonmage fizzles out as he skirts its edge with ease,

Note - Corrigon... take a HP. I could say yes that its regenerating, but fact is, I backed up too far when quoting myself for the init count and simply oopsed. The HP is for catching it, and for rolling/role/playing with it.

Will Save... Will Save DC 22: 1d20+6 7 the Killbot still belongs to Warpcore... :D

Warpcore is up with his pet.

Need Intrepid`s save plz.

COND: Unharmed - Defenseless/Immobilized

The energy grid wrapped Intrepid up tightly, but no problem. He could break this thing...

Warpcore
hp 2
cond: annoyed

Warpcore let out a yell (there's no sound in space..) of frustration before biting down again. He presses himself into the giant killbot, mixing the two bodies and minds and fighting for dominance.

He slips in and the killbot grows.. and grows.. and grows. Already large, the killbot becomes ship sized, a thick aura of crackling orange sheathing the mechanical beast, the same color as the now missing Warpcore.

But it does not come without cost, the ancient creation in turn sharing its ancient heritage of destructive madness. So much hate. So much power. Oh yes, so much power.

Warpcore seizes an even deeper control of the giant killbot.

The massive giant's eyes flare with a brilliant orange light, crackling with orange Kirby particles, sending sparks into the darkness of space.

A burst of darkness filled static showers across many wavelengths, "No. More."

Although expressionless, the robot manages to give a withering glare towards Intrepid and Dragonmade, the mouth opening into a vortex of that same sparking energy.

A massive hand reaches for them.. and then pass them.. grabbing the weakened killbot. As the killbot starts to struggle, a slow crush begins, the hull starting to shatter.

A slow turn of the head and the other hand reaches out towards the undamaged killbot. A more lifely struggle, but the talon enfolds the struggling creature, leaving behind metal shards.

Another sharp glare towards our heroes, "No. More." You find yourselves wondering if it is Warpcore speaking or the robot.

As the two hands are brougth together, a painful grinding as the two loose killbots are crumpled together.

The head rolls back in a rictum, a scream of doom laced static tearing at the ears.

The massive sparking creature begins to fly towards out two heroes.

"No. More."

Destruction was so easy. Life so worthless. There could never be peace.

Could there be anything worth fighting for?

On the planet below, the Science Police officer looks like he`s about to scream with joy... Planetary defense just came back on line. There are multiple flashes of light consistent with transporter beam ins as several guardian robots / sentinels materialize. One or two are instantly attacked while others generate an energy field and even though you do not wear devices attuned to the fields, you can feel a drain on your powers.

Persuader stops mid charge, her axe flickering in and out.

OOC

Warpcore has effectively ended combat with the robots. I am also attempting to regain some momentum here, so i have provided the means to end the scene with the Fatal Five. Also, the robots were responsible for jamming the planetary defense and guards...

You can describe having to concentrate a little harder to use your powers, but there are no other really adverse effects on the heroes. Yet.

Warpcore take a HP.

Lightning Bug - 23
Saturn9 - 21
Kid Quantum - 19
Dragonmage - 15
Intrepid - 9
Warpcore - 9
Persuader - 9
Guardian (Capt Morning) 6
Kid Kong - 6
Empress - Staggered (Dazed & Hindered - Single Standard Action per round, -1 Speed) 2
Emerald Eye - 2
Validus - 0

Skipping the Fatal Five as they stake of their new situation.... Kid Kong is up.[/quote]

Kid Kong HP: 0 Condition: Undamaged, Fatigued

Upon seeing Persuader having trouble keeping her Axe manifested, Kong burst out at her and attacked her in a fury. His elongated limbs attempted to rain down hammerfist after hammerfist.

ooc
Move: get into melee with Persuader
Standard: attack
all out 5, power attack 5: 1D20+13 = [7]+13 = 20
Use extra effort to Action Surge and attack again
all out 5, power attack 5 action surge: 1D20+13 = [4]+13 = 17...much suckage

If either hit...DC 29 vs toughness

Kid Cong connects twice, in rapid succession.

The Empress screams

"Legionnaires ! Scatter !"

Her teammates and the other inmates don't have time to react as the guardian robots and other automated defenses are brought fully online.

You can all hear your guide, the Science Police Officer with you since the beginning, calling out commands and identifying you all as authorized representatives of the UP.

You can all breathe a sigh of relief, the threat in space and on the ground is neutralized. For now.

Captain Morning comes over comms, clearly surprised at the relative ease with which you have dealt with the robots - they must have caught Dawnstar and Wildfire by surprise... But then, the other teams are not having the same success that you just did. Perhaps its Warpcore's unique powerset...

All that's left for your group is clean up and trying to figure out what their objective was...

Dragonmage

As the crisis had seemed to be averted for now, it was time to begin investigations into these robots. Other teams may be having difficulties, but if they can learn something here, that might be enough to turn the tide elsewhere.

"Captain Morning, is everything okay on your vessel?" he contacted the ship, "is there any sign of the other vessel we were warned about?"

"Planetside team, please report in. What's the situation down there?" He hadn't heard from them since the fight started and mentally he was ready to send Intrepid down to investigate or help.

Whilst Warpcore was distracted controlling the remaining robot, somebody needed to examine the remains. Takron Galtos would have labs of some kind available to them.

"Quantum Lad, I want you to..." his voice trailed off as the robot Warpcore controlled began to turn ominously.

"Warpcore Respond!" he ordered, "team spread out just in case." Oh wonderful and this is where everything goes to drek. I really shouldn't be in charge he thought.

Warpcore dives deeper into the memories of the infested killbot, trying to understand more of the ancient history of evil, the grave danger that they represent.
Insert plot exposition dump here!
And a good way to stun both parts of the merge while waiting for the ground team to respond.

There is a wealth of information to obtain from the downed robots, but it takes time to break down their protocols and decipher their coding.

Captain Morning is reluctant to bring the debris onboard, apparently concerned about them playing possum or having systems that can infiltrate the computer systems. She is willing to dispatch teams as needed though.

There is a small Legion craft on route as well, a two person high speed fighter. Morning has been in communication and alerts you that the craft intercepted and rerouted the starship rumoured to be carrying Warpcore`s counterpart… They were indeed intent on picking up the Fatal Five among others, but the delay that the Starfighter caused, coupled with the reactivation of the defense grid, was enough to dissuade them.

The pilot of the Legion craft is Solarhawk, her co-pilot is the Legionnaire Bastion. Apparently, Legion Command wants to keep your squad's power levels high instead of separating and distributing across the galaxy.

As Warpcore, aided by SP technicians, continues to work he starts to gain a plethora of information:
• The first thing that is noted is that the killbots are old. Very old. Although they show signs of upgrades and repairs, the core technology of their systems easily dates back several millennia.
• The SP immediately speculate about Controllers, but cannot find any evidence of such in the programming.
• Scans are run that compare (yielding no connections) between these and known Manhunter technology.
• There is a minor datafile with information of the first fires of creation and the dawn of time.
• An image of the woman currently in the Vegan system is located and you find a programs – very recently modified – that indicate that should she appear, the killbots immediately and completely alter their directives to follow her without question.
• You see images that immediately remind you of the sense of void that attacked you earlier. It is a dead universe with pockets life trapped within.
• Images of Wildfire and Dawnstar, imprisoned and defeated somewhere in that lifeless void.
• Images of the destroyed planetoid where Dawnstar and Wildfire were defeated – and confirmation that brute force would not have worked against the killbots as these actually seem to be the very bots that defeated the two senior Legionnaires.
• At their defeat, the three killbots surrounded Wildfire and Dawnstar and an energy grid formed, seemingly ripping (painfully at that) something from them – energy it seems – and this was how the being in the Vegan system was either summoned to this plane or came to be…
• There is no list of planets that are to be targeted, but you find protocols and criteria on how they are selected. The energy of destroyed planets feeds the void.
• Although, as noted, there is no list of planets, the killbots seem to have flight paths and sectors to search for suitable locations.
• Warpcore is unaffected, but the SP technicians are becoming increasingly agitated, and The Guardian calls for their immediate return to the ship.

Planetside, the Away Team finish helping with containment, and Lightning Bug finds herself in the presence of her sister and uncle.

OOC:
*As an aside, Warpcore`s actions and success at dealing with the killbots altered the course of planned events significantly. The Fatal Five were supposed to escape… but not being a GM that likes to railroad stories, and indeed likes to reward player success, I am retooling my story accordingly…

End Part 1 (But the scene is still open for RP.)
Everyone gains a HP (I do not reset HP at the end of PbP games.)
Everyone gains 2 PP. (Bank or spend at your discretion)
Bastion also gets the allotment in order to keep things simple.

Quantum Lad
[Lyle]
HP: 1 (LP: 0) Condition: Insubstantial

Lyle keeps to himself as the information is disseminated. Still thinking the automatons as heralds of the ancient Brainiac, he keeps his speculation to himself as the discussion inevitably falls to the Controllers. What he isn't qquite on is his opinion on what the next course of action should be. "If Drake and Dawnstar are connected to this entity in the Vegan system then we need to get there yesterday."

These were crazy villains, Intrepid decided. "If they're feeding a dead universe - then who's alive to help set this all up?"

Saturn9
Jancel Ardeen

Cond: Normal
HP: 1

Satur9 scanned the area, watching as the inmates and prison returned to a controlled state. With the sentries taking command of actual clean up, she felt the whole thing to be somehow anti-climactic. Still, with the Five's reputation, it was not necessarily a bad thing to have gotten off relatively easily.

"Captain Morning, this is Satur9, situation is secure down here. What is your status with the robots?"

Continuing to take stock of the situation, her gaze will fall to the Empress and the Emerald Eye, which was just arriving as she understood, when the sentries came back on line.
