3E IC - LSH - Dawnfire Rising

Post by Bladewind »

A planet destroyed after encountering three massive robots saw the disappearance of two of the Legion's most honored and powerful non-Kryptonian members... Dawnstar and Wildfire.

In addition to a team surveying the devastated world, the Legion dispatched some of their heavy hitters in smaller teams on United Planets Starships... to three different planets with no perceived link to each other. One such team is fighting three robots of similar build and size to the ones that were encountered by Dawnstar and Wildfire in orbit around Takron Galtos, the galaxy's prison planet...

The Legionnaires Warpcore, Intrepid, Kid Quantum and their field leader, Dragonmage, fight almost literally standing on the planetary forcefield a they do so, with Captain Lori Morning at the helm of the UP Starship Guardian ready to provide assistance... Trading blows, Warpcore has managed to take control of one of the robots, learning of its abilities as he attempts to turn it on the other two invaders... While doing so, a presence from somewhere else used the robot as a conduit to attack Warpcore`s mind, but the Tamaranean was no stranger to mental assaults and fought off the attack.

Kid Quantum and Intrepid prepare a joint attack... He slams into the giant mecha with a sound that you swear can be heard in space...

But are these robots invaders or advanced scouts ?

Meanwhile, planetside, Saturn9, Kid Kong, and Lightning Bug were with an official from the Science Police discussing the dangers if the robots got to the surface and what or who they might be interested in breaking free. As the discussion progressed, containment failed in a sector containing the Fatal Five and the Legionnaire's immediately dispatched to assess and contain the situation.

Finally in her element, Lightning Bug chose her target and attacked the Empress, the psychotic witch that normally controlled the Emerald Eye. A sound tactical decision as the Eye had not yet arrived to bolster her power... the diminutive Legionnaire is rewarded with a scream as she staggers the woman, causing her to drop her makeshift knife...

Saturn9
Jancel Ardeen
Condition: Normal
HP: 1

The telepath from Titan hesitated as she watched the scene unfold. Her mind drfited for a second to her teammates in orbit, checking in on them before taking action on the ground.

Seeing the Empress scream, she knew that Lightning Bug had delivered an attack, and chose to follow up on the opportunity. Drop them one at a time instead of splitting up for a long drawn out fight.

Saturn9's attack penetrates the mental defenses of the normal wielder of the Emerald Eye of Ekron... also alerting the psychotic woman to the presence of the Legionnaires ! (Well, further alerting as Lightning Bug`s attack kinda gave it away that there was something in the area...)

She hisses in pain, the knife in her hand rapidly moving through her fingers as she twists it and readies it for use...

Kid Quantum aims to prove that not only the "Kryptonian Class" Legionnaires were heavy hitters, a proof that no one would ever require given the accomplishments of the LSH over the year regardless of power levels... but this was not about grandstanding. It was about ending a fight.

Incredibly, given the reports from filed by Dawnstar and Wildfire, as well as the encounter with the other teams, the robot seems to be taken out of the fight, leaving the other two to deal with...

Whether or not these things are self repairing is another story though...

Dragonmage
HP 1 LP 1

"One down, two to go," he said to the others, "but keep an eye on the one Kid Quantum took out. Things have a tendency to get back up again."

He unleash the dragon again, a massive ball of fire hurtling towards the undamaged and uncontrolled one.

"And these things were supposed to be hard!" Intrepid scoffed before moving up on the one Dragonmage had battered and striking it with asteroid-shattering punches.

Warpcore
hp 1 cond: fine

Warpcore clenches his jaw, digging down deep to maintain control of the killobot and himself.

"It's fighting me. Don't know how much longer I can maintain control..." and works to maintain the link, trying to command it to attack its nearly totaled counterpart, pushing all the power out of the cannons to finish that portion of the battle."
Control machines: Concentration Cumulative Affliction 12 (1st degree: Dazed, 2nd degree: Compelled, 3rd degree: Controlled, Resisted by: Will, DC 22; Concentration, Cumulative; Limited: limited to technology, Limited: affects objects only)
Concentration so no attack roll needed but cumulative to see how deep the control is maintained.

You're probably going to ask for a willpower check: _: 1D20+14 = [19]+14 = 33
And to move things along, the killobots attack roll (will power attack shift, looks like can't do a finishing move) _: 1D20 = [2] = 2
We rise from the ashes so that new legends can be born.

The massive robot unleashes its power against its compatriot. Echoing Intrepid`s thoughts, you must all be wondering how Dawnstar and Wildfire could possibly have fallen to these unless they were taken by surprise. Its true that with Warpcore controlling one that you have a distinct and massive advantage, but still...

The blast washes over its ally, giving you hope for a second that you might be ending the fight... the robot is moving more stiffly, but still up...

Captain Morning broadcasts: "Standing by to assist, but we are not close enough to intervene without putting the ship in the crossfire. I have three engineers on board satellite defense attempting to deploy the sentry robots."

Persuader concentrates for the briefest of moments, and the air in her hands solidifies into her signature axe.

"Come on! Who wants a piece of us now?!?" She shouts as the Empress screams. Her head swivels back and forth as she searches for the cause of her erstwhile teammate's sudden distress. If the PCs are not actively trying to stay out of sight, she locks her eyes on the nearest one and charges...

Kid Kong HP: 0 Condition: Undamaged

Kong felt a cold lump of fear in the pit of his stomach upon looking at the blazing Atomic Axe and its wielder charging at him. He knew from the records that the thing could slice through the molecular bonds of almost any material. What chance did Ape Flesh have against THAT?
Best not get hit with it then. He thought to himself and tried to exert his force of will upon the deadly weapon.

OOC:
Switch array to Move Object. Try to disarm Persuader.
Disarm opposed check: 1D20+8 = [4]+8 = 12
YUCK! Oh well in for a penny in for a pound. Spending HP to reroll
Disarm opposed check HP reroll: 1D20+8 = [5]+8 = 13 adding ten under 10 makes it a 23.

EDIT: Opposed check is now for A Counter Attempt. Move Object vs Axe.

The Persuader halts her advance, seemingly struggling with her grip on the massive axe she holds.

She looks upset that anyone would try to disarm her this way, and the gleam of disdain in her eyes suggests that she thinks very little of her attacker. Except a half-second later she seems to realize that whatever is attempting to lock onto the focused power that is her axe is also locked on to her in some form... And she finds herself having to concetrai

Two of the Killbots focus on Intrepid and Dragonmage, this time instead of blasting, a grid of energy launches from their palms, expanding as it hurtles towards the two Legionnaires.

The third one struggles against Warpcore's control...
