Fair point.

But yeah, if someone wants to PM me a template for the HeroLab format, I can replicate it for posting up Maverick for consideration. I'm happy with Hope, but I feel Maverick will have more unique skills and capabilities to put on the table. Hope doesn't do much that others on the team can already do.

EDIT: I mean, her powers are unique, but the majority of their applications are not terribly useful. It's fine for a one-shot game, but for a longer game, it would be better to have more generally useful abilities. If Maverick turns out to not work for here though, I am sure I could also make some adjustments to Hope to adjust her powerset.

I don't remember Maverick, what were they like? I personally really like Hope as a character, yet you'd always be free to come in with someone else if you didn't enjoy playing as her.

I've found two builds for Maverick, here and here. Presumably there's more tuning to make them a high-school age teenager within the PL/PP limits.

There's one more build on Ronin Army too. As I'd said in my PM asking about it to Fuzzy, I've been really wanting to play the character, just seems each time he gets into a game, the game always seems to stall up and taper out. Not like a cause and effect thing I think, just bad luck.

The Ronin Army build is the most recent and geared specifically to Freedom City setting, but I do have the PL8 version of the build, which might just need a little mechanical tune-up.

As for what he's like as a character, he's heavily inspired by the Young Justice version of Robin. Background wise, he's an escaped SHADOW army clone soldier that was being used for experimenting on a super soldier serum. The experiments aren't exactly successful, but mess up the mental conditioning, freeing him from it and allowing him the faculty to escape. His main internal struggle is one of self-identity (and I mean, what teenager's isn't?). Adjusting him to be teenaged is easy though.

Mechanically speaking, based on the most up-to-date version of the character, he's primarily a martial artist with gadgets ala Batman utility belt and costume features.

I do like Hope as well and am not against sticking with her, but I've obviously tried a few times to get Maverick in a solid game. And Hope's powers would need a little adjusting/retconning to be made a little more reliably viable.

Ah, this one, I suspect. I will put out a template of a character sheet format tonight. Honestly, I only note the Hero Lab one because so many people post in a similar format, so I know where to look for things.

I've slowly adopted and changed my format over the last couple years by watching the way othwr submissions are made, untill I was finally satisified with the one I use nowadays. I'd be fine with using a preferred format though if it made things easier for ya.

Sidenote: Will the real Maverick, please stand up? :)

He has had many incarnations, apparently, over the Worlds of Freedom. :) Those can be fun. My Pratfall and Binder builds did much the same.

Haha, not ragging or anything. I frequently like to spruce up my first M&M hero, a teen hero named Ravager, and submit her to games where I think she'd fit. Have a soft spot for that one, but Cindy has become a new favorite of mine.

Would definitely like to see more of Skoldir and his robots. I should really look into his build to make it somewhat better, although from a combat perspective he is made for teamfights, not solos, which was what he found in his short participation. My other character, technoninja was more mobile and stuff, but I would guess not as fun jeje

I rather enjoyed Titaness she worked better then I had thought and was fun playing off the others.

only real issues i had were thre format of the last part threw me off a bit but beyond that it was a lot of fun.

I wouldnt mind having Irene keep going :)

Yeah, that's the most recent version. Every time I adapt him, I need to make some alterations to suit the setting, but the concept itself generally stays intact.

But at least from all those iterations, you should get a good idea what Maverick is about mechanically. :P

Yep, I definitely get the jist of him by now. A Crime Fighter could be a great fit in the group's niche, I'd say. Think he would mesh well with Irene, Cindy, and Olev? It seems those three would end up as remainders from the "original" crew. If you could consider Olev such, that is. It would be nice if some of our other wayward players returned though, I liked all of their characters and the interactions for at least the most part.

The original group was, not necessarily a group of troublemakers but trouble magnets. Hope is more like a school idol, well behaved, diligent, etc. Maverick is much more likely to fall in with the trouble magnets, rounding out that particular team flavor.

I also noted with the current group that we are heavily melee oriented with minimal mobility options. Maverick has a little more mobility, but nothing overwhelming like flight, and is as much a melee specialist as Hope, so switching doesn't upset that scrappy underdog flavor the team seems to have adopted, if only incidentally.

YES. Wow we dont usually think alike but I have to say you read my mind this time. Olev was conceived with that in mind, all his bio is about getting into trouble and finding a way out of it.

Here is were I admit failure, or at least failure to communicate clearly. I started writing up a BBCode template for a character sheet and I kept getting stuck in little technical details, or going off in the weeds. Really, the following is basically the format I want:
Character Name
<Character Image, if available>

Power Level: <PL>; Power Points Spent: <PP spent>/<PP total>

ABILITIES (If you have enhanced scores that aren't always present, just use a slash, like "12/4" for someone with enhanced strength. Dashes work fine for absent scores)
Strength 0, Stamina 0, Agility 0, Dexterity 0, Fighting 0, Intellect 0, Awareness 0, Presence 0

Advantages (please alphabetize)
(if some of them come from powers, doing something like italicizing them, or listing them seperately, helps. Also, don't forget to provide a descriptor/category/ranks for those that ask for one)

Skills (I have no strong opinion on comma-ed lists versus vertical ones here), but please alphabetize)
Skill <ranks> (<bonus>), Skill <ranks> (<bonus>)

POWERS
* Power Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost, with breakdown if needed]
* * DAP: Power Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost, with breakdown if needed]
* * AP: Power Container Name [pp cost, with breakdown if needed]
* * * Contained Power Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost]
* * * Contained Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost]

* Device Power Name (Removable status) [pp cost]
* * Power Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost, with breakdown if needed]
* * Power Name: <base power effect> <ranks> (Extras, Flaws, and other notes) [pp cost, with breakdown if needed]

DEFENSES
Dodge: <amount bought> (<total bonus>)
Parry: <amount bought> (<total bonus>)
Toughness: <amount bought> (<total bonus>)
Fortitude: <amount bought> (<total bonus>)
Will: <amount bought> (<total bonus>)

COMBAT <melee, ranged, initiative, specific attacks>
Melee: <total bonus>
Ranged: <total bonus>
Initiative: <total bonus>
Grab: <total bonus> (DC <>)
Unarmed: <total bonus> (DC <>)
Special attack 1: <total bonus> (DC <>)
Special attack 2: <total bonus> (DC <>)

Abilities <> + Skills <> + Powers <> + Advantages <> + Defenses <> = <>/ <> pp

Background
...

Complications
  • Complication Type - ...
  • Complication Type - ...
  • Complication Type - ...
Any minions, headquarters, detailed vehicles, just add them after the character in question in their own mini-statblock. Just make it clear what is the hero and what the side-builds are.

Primarily, I just want all of the important bonuses clearly present for fast lookup, with some minimal styling to offset sections so that I can quickly scan for what I want. Honestly, the problem wasn't all that bad except that I was a bit stressed for a week or two and it was becoming an itch.
