On his knees, the Squire reaches into his jacket and pulls out the toolkit wrapped around the small of his back like a brace, unfurling it on the ground in front of him. He's picked locks before, plenty of times, but a situation like this was not exactly his forte. That skill was more-so for breaking into cars without setting off the car alarm, a skill he had "refined" while working at the scrapyard. In theory, however, this was something he was capable of. He took his flashlight and turned it on with a hand cupping the bulb to avoid too much light escaping as he selected his lock picking tools from the kit. Once the tools were selected, the Squire handed his flashlight to the White Rabbit and slowly got to work.
"Fuck," the Squire cursed softly as he attempted to pull open the door, pulling his tools out of the lock and inspecting them for damage. He thought he had it, but he must have missed a tumbler or something. He turned and shot a sheepish smile at the White Rabbit. "Aren't magicians supposed to be able to pick locks?"

He returned his attention to the lock, rolling his shoulders and his neck before getting back down to work.

She stepped back as she let the other teen retrieve some tools from his person and gave the locking mechanism a quick once over. Once handed the flashlight, she diligently kept it focused on the hatch to give him ample amounts of light. Although as the secconds grew longer and his figedint became more forced, she got the impression tings weren't going well. "Fuck," She heard him curse, confirming her suspicions.

Moving to once side and shifting he flashlight t her other hand Bethany bit her lip as Squire looked over his tools for damage. "Aren't magicians supposed to pic locks?" He asked, facing her with a bemused expression.

The girl could only give a crooked smile of her own as she replied with a shrug. "He never got around to teaching me. I found a set newly purchased tools a few days ago, so... I guess he was planning on it." She frowned, focusing the flashlight back onto the hatch while the other sidekick worked. "Guess I'll have to teach myself the skill on my own."

Having slipped close enough, Jolt recognized the duo. It was hard not to. He had gone over the files millions of times, and have read their exploits too. It was hard to earn a name and that people recognize you when you are under the wing of someone live Cavalier or Top Hat. Or Omniman, he thought with a squint. But still they were easy to recognize. And were trying to pick some locks, apparently oblivious of their surroundings. Moving out of cover, Jolt straightened himself, he was short so he had to try and look tall after all, and uttered a chuckle, lifting his night goggles. "It is against the law to break into private property unannounced. You should know that already, no? After all... a squire is some sort of knight, am I right? Don't tell me the rabbit ate your tongue. "

That's a shame, I was hoping things could transition more smoothly. Now you get to see what happens when you spook a rabbit. :D
She continued to hold the light for Squire, largely forgetting to keep an eye out for anyone who could spot them. Getting inside that hatch and seeing what was down there was all that mattered to her right now. What state would the room be like? Would their mentors even be down there... alive or dead? It was these questions which prevented her from hearing the stealthy approach of a man in red.

"It is against the law to break into private property unannounced. You should know that already, no? After all... a squire is some sort of knight, am I right? Don't tell me the rabbit ate your tongue."

She whirled around in surprise, the light falling from her hands and failing to reveal his features by choosing to bathe a pile of bricks in light instead. Reacting on instinct, she flipped her right hand outward towards the man before her. "Anamutshabuk!" She called out as a length of rainbow scarves flies forth from her sleeve.

I know I could have her just react normally, but this is more fun.

Thinking on catching someone by surprise you never expect you to be the surprised one! As the explosion of scarves shoot out to him, he dodges backwards, flipping over a pile of rubbish, and landing harmoniously close by. "Ha! Nice try, but you need more than that if you wish to catch Jolt, White Rabbit!" he says as he pints at White Rabbit. It would seem heroical, almost too perfect if not for the fact that a blue scarf was coiled around the arm he was using to point at the stage magician. Jolt then changes arms, and points at White Rabbit with a red scarf wrapped left arm. "Rats..."

The light from the flashlight bounced slightly at what Gavin guessed was a shrug from the White Rabbit. "He never got around to teaching me. I found a set newly purchased tools a few days ago, so... I guess he was planning on it." Gavin could hear the sadness in her voice, frowning to himself as he kept his eyes on the task at hand. "Guess I'll have to teach myself the skill on my own."

Gavin leaned towards the White Rabbit without turning to face her as he continued working on the lock. "Well, if you wanted, I could probably--"

"It is against the law to break into private property unannounced. You should know that already, no? After all... a squire is some sort of knight, am I right? Don't tell me the rabbit ate your tongue. "

Jesus, the Squire thought as only Cavalier's training and Catholic guilt kept him from shouting the lord's name in vain. He whirled his head around with a start, not even thinking to take his hands off of his tools. A guy around Gavin's age was standing there, looking for all the world like he was posing. He was a bit shorter than Gavin himself, but seemed to be a similar height to the White Rabbit. Goggles adorned shaggy blond hair, with a red outfit of some kind apparent under a black coat.

"Anamutshabuk!" the White Rabbit yelled beside him, and the Squire watched as a rainbow of colors lashed out at the newcomer. He watched as the kid in red dodged backwards over a pile of rubble and landing nimbly nearby.

"Ha! Nice try, but you need more than that if you wish to catch Jolt, White Rabbit!" he cried out, lifting an arm that now had what appeared to be a blue scarf wrapped around it. Switching to his other appendage, the young man had a matching scarf that went a bit better with his outfit. "Rats..."

Good God, there's two of them, the Squire thought as he breathed in through his nose and out through his mouth in an attempt to calm his racing heart. He needed his hands not to be shaking with adrenaline if he was going to get this lock open. He turned his head back towards the lock and collected himself for a moment before resuming his work. Gavin was stewing a bit at being interrupted, but there was a job to do. He could be mad in a minute.

She watched as the shadowed man makes an attempt to doge her attack, leaping over a pile of brick and mortar with ease. "Ha! Nice try, but you need more than that if you wish to catch Jolt, White Rabbit!" He called out, pointing at her with his right arm. Which, she noticed, had a length of blue wrapped tightly around it. He seemed to notice as well and made to cover his mistake by switch to his left. Which had a strip of red that didn't quite match his jacked knotted over it twice. "Rats..."

More amused then anything at this point, she bend down to retrieve her flashlight, and revealed the sidekick for who he was. "Jolt?" She asked redundantly. Seems they had a proper party now. Placing her free hand onto her waist, she gave him a light-hearted look of disapproval. "You should know better then to sneak up on young girls like that."

She gestured toward Squire, still trying his best to unlock the hatch in spite of the surprise encounter. "We found something that emergency personal missed, and were about to go down. You should come with us, it... could be really important." Rabbit spoke, distractedly. In an attempt to detract from the seriousness some more the girl focused her flashlight on Jolt's arms. "I'm going to need those back. Come over here, I know how to undo them without tearing."

"Touche, my dear rabbit." Jolt says scratching the back of his messy head. He jumped down and walked over, extending both arms towards her. As she worked on undoing the scarfs, he commented. "Yeah I know, been watching you for a while. I also caught a heat print on a door back there I want to inspect. Don't believe the police noticed it either. I can't believe those jerks, so incompetent.". Looking down to squire, he added "See you struggling mate, wanna hand?"

Under The Squire's ministrations, he feels the cylinder shift as the tumblers lose their lock on it. It takes a fair amount of pressure on the torsion bar, but then the deadbolt slides in with a messy thunk. Unfortunately, the door doesn't immediately move. A closer look shows that the heat Amy's pressure of the explosion has warped the door and partially melted it to the frame. But with the efforts of all three sidekicks, it swings open, revealing a ladder down to a dark interior, a hidden basement of some sort.

La Calavera

The guard laughs nervously as you go, but doesn't follow immediately. Your travel out of the hospital is easier than expected. It's almost like a guardian angel is plucking orderlies and patients out of your way. The crowded egress is almost a relief - mothers comforting hurt children, people clutching bloody bandages to their wounds - this is where the emergency room cases come in, and the chaos serves as excellent cover.

As you step out onto Marion St, the gentle whir of cars heading down 376, the Boulevard of the Allies, breaks the silence of the night. Under that noise, you hear a distinctive slap-flap of blown out shoes, and a quick glance shows a man in layers of clothing shuffling towards you, head down, Pirates cap dipped low and hiding his face. You're not getting any real sense of danger or aggression off of him.

She looks down with some trepidation, afraid of what they'll uncover. But she didn't come this far to quit now. So putting on a brave face, she smiled at the boys before moving towards the ladder."Ladies first." She declared, starting to descend into the darkness.

"Oh, so brave. Don't forget the flashlight darling." Jolt says, casually throwing the flashlight at White Rabbit with one hand while he pockets his goggles with the other, promptly following her. "Come on chum." he adds, looking back at Squire.

"Jolt? You should know better then to sneak up on young girls like that," Gavin heard the Rabbit say, sounding for all the world like she was scolding a child. "We found something that emergency personal missed, and were about to go down. You should come with us, it... could be really important."

She's sugar-coating it for him, Gavin thought, pausing for a moment before resuming his legerdemain. Either she doesn't think he can take it, or she's trying to avoid him freaking out like I did. Again, Gavin, well done.

The Squire resumed his focus on the lock as the White Rabbit attempted to free Jolt from her scarves. The more Jolt talked, the more Gavin disliked him. I wonder if he got that from Omniman, or if he's a prick on his own.

"See you struggling mate," he heard Jolt say behind him. "Wanna hand?"

With that, the Squire heard the satisfying thunk of the lock opening. He grinned and looked back at the other boy. "I got it. Mate." Together, they managed to wrench the fused metal open to reveal a ladder leading down into the darkness.

"Ladies first." the White Rabbit said at once, not an ounce of fear on her face as she headed down the ladder. Gavin had to give it to her, she was quite the performer.

"Oh, so brave. Don't forget the flashlight darling." Jolt replied, tossing Gavin's flashlight carelessly at the Rabbit before turning back to the Squire. "Come on chum."

"Seriously, pet names? You're that guy?" the Squire asked incredulously, carefully choosing his footing as he followed after them.

Jolt turned his head back to look at Squire, "You know, I expected someone who lost everything in a big explosion would be more focused on the important things, not the jokes I make." he shoots, and then turning back ahead, he lifted a hand in disregard. "But at any rate, you are lucky that I'm here, I might not be Omniman but I sure have resources... And some Intel too."

Owl's Club - Basement

As White Rabbit descends the ladder, the darkness starts to feel more oppressive, pushing in on all sides, bringing back memories of the escape trick gone wrong. The slick feeling of the metal, the roughness of the wood, the staleness of the air, the increasing awareness of every heartbeat thudding louder and louder until she could barely hear the cues of when to move as the spears slid in... She's at the bottom now, but the light of the flashlight seems to barely hold back the darkness around her. Playing the beam across the room reveals wood-panels walls, dark with knotholes, maybe a 20 foot by 10 foot room, dominated in the center by a long table, some of the chairs evidently knocked to the floor. The room has a damp smell, mildew, and the stale smell of tobacco, largely cigarettes, but there's also the stink of cigars and some lighter smells, maybe cloves. But underlying it all is a scent she's very familiar with... flash paper. You recognize the smell of your father's formulation. A quick grope to each side of the ladder reveals a panel of lightswitches at the usual height, stage left of the ladder.

As the boys descend, they get the same general impression of the damp and tobacco. The Squire also notes the scent of cordite in the air and thinks he might get a hint of motor oil. Jolt's quick scan of the room with his IR goggle shows it cold, his companions fairly blazing white against the background coolth.
