Hornet:
[Kirk McGlothlin]
HP: 3
LP: 2

Hornet watched as the fire creature caused destruction simply by walking from what remained of its prison. It took him several seconds to shake himself out of the stupor witnessing such destruction, but he recovered and turned his attention to the nearby mage.

“I can handle the tech ends of the machine if you can deal with magical parts.” The tiny hero said as he made his way to the remains of Binder’s device and began analyzing it.

Thomas had to tear his gaze from the Elemental, just as Hornet had. "Yes, yes, quite right my boy. Quite right.", he offered, turning to the open space where they'd arrived. It was then he'd realized that Binder was gone and felt that strange charge in the air that speedsters sometimes leave in their wake. That's right. 'Blur', I think they said, he thought as he began to weave several patterns in the air. As each one was completed, it drifted into place forming a circle as large as the clearing could provide. Just as the last one was about to land in place, Thomas leapt over and snatched it before it could land. "Jesus!", he exclaimed, reversing some of the characters in it. "I keep forgetting this sigil's inverted here. That would've been...non-optimal.", he added as he laid it back into place.

Photon

Collin looks around at the damage and quickly assess the situation. This definitely wasn't his first volcano mission - hopefully he was working with teammates who wouldn't make rash decisions. He can still just about see the trail the lava took 12 years ago, and the small bump where he was forced to improvise to save that small group of civilians because Jack decided to do things "his way."

"Shock, you and Prism evacuate the towns along this path," he says pointing down a line towards the ocean. "Dragonfyre and I will create a trench for the lava to flow through just east of that line so get everyone to the other side."

Without even waiting for anyone to respond, Collin flies towards the front of the lava and as he is about to pass it, he dives right into it. The heat from the molten rock is actually invigorating. Just like twelve years ago, he projects and energy front in front of him, setting the same rotational pattern. The energy wave acts like a drill and starts creating a trench.

"Dragonfyre, this only works if you get any surface obtrusions out of the way. Large boulder, trees, anything big enough to disrupt the trench and flow of lava through it."

Again trusting his teammate to do his job, Colling continued drilling through the rock channeling the lava flow towards the ocean in a controlled manner.

Dragonfyre
HP: 3 Cnd: Controlled Destruction

Tony simply hovered in front of the massive elemental. Its raw power, raw majesty was truly overwhelming. Even the primal fury of the dragon within him knew that this was the master of the Caldera. The fire and heat swirled around him and something else...pain, loneliness...sadness. The roar everyone felt wasn't one of challenge...wasn't one of rage. It was one of loss and being lost. More than the fire and flames, this almost pulled the Young Dragon from the sky.
"Dragonfyre, this only works if you get any surface obtrusions out of the way. Large boulder, trees, anything big enough to disrupt the trench and flow of lava through it."
Photon's words break through the pall of depression rolling off the Elemental. Shaking his head, Dragonfyre simply nods and snaps his wings. Within a heartbeat, Dragonfyre, the Kaiju Protector swoops forward of Photon and begins to "plow" the road for molten magma to flow through. Hopefully, harmlessly to the sea.
Interesting. OK, I assume that this is a continuous run. He will create the path through a combination of his Dragonfire and Dragonmight. He will focus all of his unused rage and now empathy for the Elemental into the newly formed Protectors Trench! Dragonfire/Dragonmight: 1D20+11 = [7]+11 = 18
...points to spare, reroll for better effects: Dragonfire/Dragonmight Reroll: 1D20+11 = [16]+11 = 27

. Much better

Everyone

The massive Elementals path is rapidly cleared as it begins its journey away from the volcano towards some destination known only to it. the beasts massive foot falls create minor aftershocks with each fall, and the sheer heat from the creature is enough to ignite small brushfires much less the magma of the creatures form.

Photon begins boring a massive trench aimed towards the sea and its cooling waters the energy from his hands vaporizing yards of rock at a time as he goes.

Dragonfyre quickly aids this endeavor by removing a few obstructions such as a truck sized boulder which ends up being tossed aside or couple of trees too close to homes for comfort.

Shock quickly rallies the local authorities most fo them too gobsmacked by the size of the Monster and rapidly has them begin an evacuation of the area his leadership proving crucial as he finds the Mysterious Prysm using her light based powers to aid in the evacuation as well.

Which leaves Magus and Hornet rapidly working side by side. Both scientist and mage quickly wrack their brains and come to similar conclusions. The creature must be sent home while its energy which is causing the volcano to erupt must be dispersed. Binders Device an energy syphon combined with a ritual of transit can accomplish both of these feats.

Kirk works frantically at the highly advanced device admiring the Disfigured geniuses ingenuity, how many other scientists could create an energy syphon that could steal energy from a mystic source? Not many in his experience.

Thomas rapidly lays down a circle within which he channels and lays down a weave of energy that causes more sweat to appear on his brown then could be attributed to the heat from the creature and the erupting volcano. he feels the web of energies that connect the beast to this plane keeping it bound to the volcano and the island, and he knows he cant allow it to hit the ocean either, the massive creature would cause enormous ecological damage to itself and the sourrounding islands if it did.

together the Mage and Scientist begin the enormously difficult task of shifting several hundred tons of enraged fire elemental to its own plane of existence.

Everyone's solid for daring do

Our scientist and magus both understand the principle of what theyre doing so one last et of rolls and well send the beasty home and close out our vacation adventure :)

Im gonna say this is a DC 25 arcane lore check 3 times for a sustained fast cast ritual 3 successes the big guy is gated home to the elemental plane of fire.

Hornet may assist this with 3 DC 25 tech checks made to support adjsutments in the wild flow of energy around the volcano which the device is helping to contain.

Proceed with your heroism gentlemen :D

Thomas opened himself to the Aetheric flows of the island and set his will to opening the portal. The flow was far more turbulent than he'd expected. Dammit, dammit, dammit..., he thought. I don't think this is going to hold. Damn me for a fool! Straining to keep the energies in the portal, Thomas croaks out a call to his young teammate. "Hornet...Hurry..."

Hornet:
[Kirk McGlothlin]
HP: 2 (-1 for re-roll)
LP: 2

While Magus worked his mojo, Hornet worked his hi-tech version; keeping Binder's device from overloading with the outpouring of mystical energies the tiny hero barely understood. It wasn't easy as it worked similarly to normal energy, but not really - one moment the flux capacitor nearly blew out from massive energy conversion being placed upon it but a manual adjustment allowed it to not melt down and continue the flow of power, only for the series of resistors meant to scale down the energy output to manageable levels to nearly overload in steps until Hornet reinforced their connections to the circuit with a few well placed blasts from his armor's gauntlets.

After managing those problems Hornet heard his newest ally call out.
"Hornet...Hurry..."
"A few more seconds, just hang on." The insect avenger answered, hoping that his voice sounded more confident than he felt, dealing with magical energies was entirely new ground for him and he didn't have the benefit Binder had possessed by having months to carefully build this device. He was working on the fly, in the dark, with a blindfold & earplugs on while concert-level heavy metal music playing.

Then he saw the last piece of the problem - a circuit had broken due to the large strain placed upon it in this situation. Seeing only one way to fix the problem he wasted no time in using his own body and armor to bridge the gap. As the energy ripped through him, Hornet called out to Magus. "Finish up whatever you're doing, I can't keep this up for too long...."

Everyone

As the scientist and the sorcerer work their respective magics the effect is rapidly apparent to all involved as the Massive elemental lets loose with an Island shaking roar that causes the volcano behind them to react in kind. Hornet works quickly, his amazing intellect bent to the task of guiding, controlling and bending the energy flow of the creature and the unleashed volcano via Bindhers device. The device whirrs and beeps and hummms as a massive surge of energy is channeled through it diluted and diffused and dispersed. The atmosphere around the island is affected as Storm Clouds gather overhead and lightning flashes and cracks among them.

Simultaneously Thomas works to channel the mystic energies of the island into a single goal; Return the Ancient Elemental to its home plane. He bends his formidable will to the task and focuses enormous power into the circle around him before shaping it into process of shifting dimensions. The BEast roars overhead as it feels the pull of his will and set its own ancient will against him, despite its desire to return. Thomas can feel the binding spell that brought the creature here in the first place and bound it to its volcanic prison fighting back against him and he has to adjust to it as he exerts enormous effort.

Its at the height of the spells power that Thomas feels his control slip as some infernal will sets itself against him. The creature wavers and then turns ponderously on its axis and orients itself on Hornet and the Magus with a violent roar that causes another ground quake as the massive elemental actually picks up speed its thunderous footsteps heading towards them.

Its just then that he feels a third force of will enter the picture, its a familiar feeling as is the power that it encompasses. the power from this will flows over him like a refreshing cool breeze that causes goosebumps to crawl across his skin, but not as much as the mischievous laugh that floats at the edge of his conscious perceptions, a hauntingly familiar laugh that hes heard in intimate moments, a laugh that he thought he would never hear again when the ways were closed to him.

The power he was channeling is reinforced as Hornet makes some rapid adjustments to the device and Thomas feels his own will reinforced by the power enabling him to close the circle and send his will out into the effort. The beast roars once more but slows in its crushing charge at the two men, slowing until it is all but eye to enormous flame filled eye with them. then the Elemental seems to bow to them its massive head touching the ground, and then sliding into it as the spell takes effect and the Dimensions align allowing the beast to return to its home as the two men overcome the Binding spell.

it takes several moments for the enormous beast to simply melt into the earth but finally it does and the enormous overlike heat is gone. With the Creatures departure the volcano itself settles back into a state of equilibrium as its power is drained away and it resumes its previous state of dormancy.

Hornet working frantically on Binders device is forced to leap backwards as the device overflows suddenly and unleashes a backlash of energy that crackles out like a lightning bolt into the volcanos caldera. Thomas who was staggered by the effort rushes to the calderas edge where he sees a sight that causes an ince cold shudder to run down his spine.

In the middle of the now cooling lava is the Obsidian island that Binder was originally working on. On the platform of black stone an enormous glowing golden rune in an ancient language representing the plane of fire and surrounded by a golden circle of smaller runes of binding and restraint.

Standing on the obsidian platform is Black Anubis the ebony jackal headed villain catches the lightning bolt of enormous power focused and channeled by Binders device in one ebon clawed hand and then drives it down like a spike into the middle of the island. there is an enormous crack of thunder and backlash of force that knocks everyone on the ground off their feet. As Thomas watches the circle of gold breaks and then fades away Anubis then turns and looks right at him and smiles a wicked smile followed by a malevolent chuckle before his body falls apart into a cloud of black sand that blows away on the winds.

Thomas then knows the truth. Hes been set up, Anubis used him. The thrice accursed monster had lead him here with a trail of bread crumbs, hed used Binder to upset the balance of the Elementals holding spell in order to draw the elemental out so it could be destroyed or contained or possibly even unleashed on the unsuspectig population as a distraction. All so Anubis could use the machines gathered energies to power a spell to break the true Keystone without interference from the Elemental which was its guardian.

Anubis had been successful, one of the Five had been broken, Four remained, Air, Water, Earth, and a lock of the Spirit. Five keys to a prison of something very powerful and very dangerous.

Its as he conteplates this that he sees somehting out of the corner of his eye, a flash of dark red and pink, a mere blur in his perceptions that draws his eyes, but when he looks he doesnt see anything, and why would he if she were alive she was always amazing with veils and he wouldnt be able to see her even if it was what he trully wanted.

Thomas stands up as the Protectors gather near him just as the sky opens up with a cooling rain which causes steam to hiss up from the heated ground. The rain causes fires to die out and cleanses ash and smoke from the air allowing the team to breath cool air and smell the salt from the ocean once again.

There on the edge of the volcani caldera they stand triumphant once more having saved many lives. But for one of them he knows its just the beginning of a longer fight to come.

Exellent rolls and great job everyone.

Time to wrap up as ive let this one roll ona little longer then planned.

Hornet makes all rolls no sweat.

thomas technically fails one.

however Hornets can act as an aid, and this gives me the opportunity to advanced a part of thomas's side story that Kas and I disucssed prior. So he gets a bit of hidden help and succeeds.

the beasty goes home and Anubis breaks the seal like hed planned.

Everyone gets a hero point for that carries over to the next chapter and 4 pp to spend as you will.

great job guys next chapter will be soon. however feel free to roleplay as you will.

as always if anyone has any side stories or things they want to explore feel free to ask. :D

Photon

A few days later...

Collin finds Hornet in his lab at the mansion. Without his bands on, his natural skin tone and brown hair are restored. Wearing blue jeans and a black polo shirt, he could be anybody off the street.

"Hey, do you have a minute?"

He pauses long enough to let Kirk reach a stopping point.

"First, I want to thank you for putting me up while I was in town. This is quite an amazing facility. I'm used to... well a lot less."

He takes a breath. He has never really found himself in this position before, an outsider on another team. He hadn't even thought in Hawaii; he just reacted.

"I also want to apologize for what happened in Hawaii."

Kirk was working on some upgrades to his armor, something he's been meaning to get taken care of for a while now but there never seemed to be time, but after the stress he put on the system making sure Binder's machine worked like they needed to send the fire elemental home he couldn't put it off any longer.

It was while he was making the last addition of improved resistors to the stinger guantlets that Kirk heard someone talking to him.
"Hey, do you have a minute?"
"Yeah, just gimme a second." Kirk replied as he finished the last bit of soddering. As he looked at the owner of the voice, it took him a moment to recognize Photon in his non-powered form. The changes his powers allowed him to make to his body to hide his identity were impressive.
"I also want to apologize for what happened in Hawaii."
Kirk's head tilts slightly to the left as he tries to understand what exactly the other man is apologizing for, but couldn't think of a thing for the life of him. "I'm sorry, but what exactly are you apologizing for?"

Kirk started to reply but realized that his associate wasn't done, so he simply shut his mouth and allowed the other hero to finish.

"I could sit here and make excuses, but I'm not going to do that. I'm just a temp, and it's your team. So, I apologize for assuming your authority."

"I know I don't have the greatest reputation for playing well with others; I just wanted you to know that I really didn't mean to disrespect you this way."
Kirk shakes his head. "I'm not aware of a "reputation" you might, or might not possess, but as far as the team goes you're fine. The Protectors have never had a rigid chain of command like most teams do - we're a bit more of a free-wheeling style team. If someone has a good idea on how to handle a problem or situation then that's what we go with. So you've not rocked any boat, stepped on anyone's toes, or hurt someone's feelings."

"I can respect what you're doing here though, and that says a lot to me about your character." He stands up from the table to face the other hero. "In all honesty you have a lot of experience, and that's something the team could use. I like how you handled yourself in Hawaii and think you could fit in here with us." Kirk smiles wide. "So how would you feel about joining us full time? We could give it a trial run if you wanted and if you don't like how we handle things then we can go our separate ways with no bad feelings."

"Sound like something you might be interested in?"

Colin steps back in surprise. Between Jack publically blaming him for Steel's "death" and the total anti-social act he put on after coming out of retirement, there weren't many people who wanted him around. He didn't really tell many people that he found Steel alive since it wouldn't have made any difference.

Even during the whole Viper thing, AEGIS had been reluctant to work with him. Sending him off to deal with the weapons satellite was there way of getting him out of the way. He was only there as a backup; the AEGIS geek squad believed they could hack the satellite remotely and he wouldn't be needed. Good thing he didn't believe them.

"I... uhhmm... I am surprised, honestly. I didn't think anyone would want to work with me after what the Rangers said about me and how I behaved afterward."

Kirk shakes his head. "Personally? I'm a big supporter of checking things myself and not just going by what everyone is saying. So I am aware of things you've done and more importantly have, what I like to think is, a fair understanding of why you did them."
"I'll admit; it's nice working with a team again, but I don't want to cause you guys any trouble."
Again Kirk shakes his head. "Let our PR people and sponsor worry about that. I've seen you in action, and I think you'd fit in just fine as well as bring some good things to the team."
