Angela: Friday 23, July 1999, evening
Farshine looked back at Angela with questioning eyes after she had told him not to tell her mother about what was happening to her. What was he supposed to tell the woman? This entire affair could end up in the news. After a delay he squeezes Angela's hand affectionately, then releases, and rises into a stand.

"I'll think of something to tell her."

With that assurance given he turns and makes his way to the door where his police escort awaited.

Alan stared at his hands for awhile, the fleeting dreamlike memories of something... Grotesque, yet nothing that actually stood in his mind. It felt important, but not at the same time. The man barely even noticed the doctor making his arrival with how focused he was at those absent memories. Days could've passed him by and he wouldn't have notice.

Finally, he blinked, looking up again at his newest doctor. "...Sorry, I'm still feeling dizzy from waking up. Could you repeat that?"

The door closes and Angela is alone in the interrogation room again. She looks at the glass, the one-way mirror and looks away. She's seen enough Hill Street Blues to know someone could be there waiting for her to say something damning. I just hope I don't run into any more of those monsters while awaiting my arraignment, she thinks.

Angela: Monday 26, July 1999, afternoon
Angela spends the weekend in a jail cell. She get the harassment from other inmates a new arrival should expect. She sleeps in a cramps room with no privacy. Her bed is not her own. Her clothes are not her own. She doesn't even get space to herself, as she shares the cell with a fat woman named Francian who has some major BO and snores like a thunder storm. Fortunately, while irritable, Francian is not a violent offender.

Come Monday Angela gets to wear some of her own clothes again, and is escorted to a courtroom when she is allowed to state her plea. Then the lawyers and judge to the rest of the talking while Angela is left to ruminate on her circumstances. As the hearing goes on she sees a dark shadow wash over the courtroom and settle on the judge. Something does not feel right. This is no natural shadow. Nothing has changed in the lighting to create it.

After the darkness settles on the judge, the man's eyes melt away, sinking into black caverns. His face turns gaunt, his skin pales, and his cheeks hallow. The changes are there, then gone a moment later, and the shadow is gone. But the feeling of unnatural wrongness sticks with Angela to the conclusion of the hearing. It is ruled that Angela will be allowed to post bail, but the price is high. Far higher than Rachel had estimated. Farshine and Angela will have to take out an unreasonably large loan from a bail bondsman in order for Angela to get out on bail.

Angela is able get out on bail though. She's able to have that illusion of freedom for a while longer. Touching bases with Alan Darwin she learns that while he is still in poor health, he'll be discharged from the hospital today. The two agree to meet up at a coffee shop near the hospital to have a more indepth discussion.

Alan: Monday 26, July 1999, afternoon
Alan's attention dwindles from the moment and he has a 'Peanuts Moment', wherein the doctor's voice fades into the background and becomes little more than jumbled mumbles. Something about his wounds looking like they had gotten worse since the previous day. Alan was on auto-pilot for the duration of the encounter however. Later Saturday he learned from Natasha that his insurance was going to cover all of his hospital expenses and that they had cleared him for a receiving a personal nurse should he opt to seek to be discharged from the hospital prematurely.

It was odd. His insurance was OK, but it wasn't that good. Still, Alan was getting stir crazy with all the limitations of being watched like a hawk by hospital staff and forced to rest rather than do. There was also the growing likelihood that he was in danger if he remained at the hospital any longer. Angela, Blane, and he has stirred something up ... and his nightmares had been getting worse.

All the papers were signs, forms filed, and legalities covered. Alan was going home Monday. It was on Monday that he also learned of Angela's situation. At least that she wasn't in jail at present. After some talking the two of you arrange to meet up at a coffee shop not that far from the hospital to talk, and maybe try to figure things out.

Henry struggles futilely against the cold vice-like grasp on his throat. Fingers dig into his neck. His airway constricts. He isn't getting any oxygen. He can't breath. In his efforts to break free he kicks his legs under him and hits something other than the creature crushing his throat. Whatever it is, it rattles loudly on the pavement and makes a metallic clang as it hits something further into the alley.

Alan and Angela, eerily arrive at their destination at roughly the same time from different directions. Walking towards each other, they can see one another as they close in on the 'Green Bean' coffee shop. Up ahead, from an alley, they hear a commotion. When they move to investigate they come upon the scene of a Latino man behind held by the throat and pinned up against a wall by a thing dressed in jeans and a button down blue shirt. Immediately they smell the stink of cologne mixed with rot. They see the pale and decayed skin of a corpse.

I forgot to note that Henry is Suffocating. He has 14 rounds before he needs to make checks. I don't expect we'll get that far, but you may want to keep anyway.

The PCs may act at this point. No need for rolling Initiative, there is only one antagonist. You may act in any order. Henry needs to make a DC 20 check, using the lesser of Strength or Dodge, to get free of the Grab. If he fails, that is another round of Suffocating that goes by.

Angela and Alan get a free activation of Self-Control and The Sight for this scene.

Alan's eyes narrow at the sight of a young man getting accosted so brutally, and instinctively he reached for his gun and badge. "W.P.D.! Take your hands off of him right now, or I will be forced to open fire!"

Not that he actually wished to, he didn't need the drama of having to discharge his weapon so soon after being released from the hospital. Perhaps the Thing would comply and listen to reason.

Henry thrashes, but to no avail. His mind raced with how he could have misjudged the creature so much. The thing wasn't the little girl, so maybe there was time to still see reason. Henry was losing hope as fast as he was losing air though. The sound of a cop was good on one front since they were hopefully armed and able to distract the creature. On the bas side, this wasn't a human thing. So, Henry had to get the cop to go away if he had any hope of getting to the heart of what was driving this creature to turn them around.

Angela's first instinct is to run down the alleyway and attack the monster. But her incarceration just hours ago is fresh in mind. She does not activate her sight ability. Right now she can pretend the shadow she saw was nothing. If she activates it, she would know for sure otherwise. This was how she felt in the courtroom. And it had taken her effort to resist reacting to the judge. She turns and looks around at anyone nearby to see if they even notice Alan and his weapon. If they do, she tells them he's a cop and someone should call for backup. She would call with her cell phone but it lost its charge sitting her personal effects locker at the prison and she had not had a chance to recharge it.

Alan draws his firearm and aims at the corpse creature choking it's victim. Showing his badge he exerts his authority as part of law enforcement. The rotting man, who had been looking at a card in their off hand, turns to look at Alan. Instead of complying with the command, brownish lips twist into a sneer. Then, with a sudden swing of her arm, the man that had been thrashing about in the grasp of the monster was sent flying at Alan.

Henry's body, acting as an awkward missile weapon, crashes into the badge bearing forensic analyst. Before either man can recover from the impact the walking corpse turns away and sprints down the alley. Moving swiftly it rounds a corner, breaking line of sight.

Meanwhile, hesitant to act too boldly in public, Angela looks around to take stock of witnesses. There are a number of pedestrians walking down the sidewalk on either side of the road. Though none are in a position to see what was happening in the dark and dank alley way. After the man's body goes flying through the air and crashes into Alan, people do begin to take note, however. Some are beginning to come over to investigate. Initially they ignore Angela, until she starts talking. Then a couple engage her, though not to help. No, they inquire about what is going on. Trying to get information out of her.

Angela doesn't get a choice about activating her Sight. She doesn't get to pretend, or hide her head in the sand. She is forced to see this monster for what it is. Make a Persuasion check for trying to get people to do something helpful.

Henry twists in the air as oxygen fills his lungs again. This creature was strong and Henry knew what a football felt like when tossed back into play. There was a-lot of lessons he could learn from this encounter, but the only thing going through his head was twisting and turning ready to slam into the cop with the lest amount of impact as possible. For whomever was watching, his movements could almost be mistaken for dancing in the air.

As he made contact, Henry went into a tumble to roll with the impact. Tumbling wasn't his bag, but between that and fancy footwork he figured tumbling would work better when flying through the air. Upon impact, he let out a loud umph managing to not get to hurt miraculously enough. The cop wasn't the softest of landing spots.

"That guy just tossed me like I was a piece of garbage. Whatever he's on its crazy powerful.", exclaims Henry. He wasn't in any state to give chase. Next time, he would be more careful. Next time, he would keep it publicish. Next time, he would have his blade with him. "You ok?", asked Henry of Alan, the cop who blunted his fall.

He could see the crowds assembling and already plotted the story in his head. Out of curiosity, he approached the man asking about the coffee shop. After some back and forth, the man seemed like he had something to say in private, so he went out in the alley with the man only to be ambushed. Brining the cops in now would only make things worse, so he would give his statement, a description, and make sure Ernesto and him stayed somewhere else for a few nights until Henry dealt with this creature. That was the plan at least.

Something almost seems to crack or pop when the strangle victim slams into his chest, knocking them both to the ground in a heap. "Angela, try to get a trail on the perp-" he bites out, in hopes the woman might be able to use her smoke trail in time.

Reroll edited in: 23

Alan manages up to his feet, grasping his gun and maintaining proper trigger discipline with it pointed downwards, not putting it away just yet on the off chance the strangler doubles back. "I'll be fine," He says, hand on his chest where he can already feel the hit on his chest that'll doubtlessly bruise. He then places a hand on the other man's shoulder, his face frowning yet eyes lit with concern. "What about you, could you show me where he attacked you?"

Someone approaches Angela asking what's going on. "I don't know. Some crazy person was strangling a guy and this guy's a cop trying to stop him. I think someone should go call the police."

The man being attack comes flying out of the alley toward Alan. "Someone should go call the police, NOW!"

Henry pointed back at the spot outside the door where he had almost been strangled. "He ambushed me over there. I'll show you.", said Henry catching his breathe. He had to be careful what he said here. Say too much and ruin finding the creature to make it turn from it's wicked ways. Say too little and risk drawing the suspicion of the cops and getting locked in the looney bin.

Heading over to the spot, Henry picked up his wallet and after checking its contents, he put it back in his jeans. "We came out here to talk. I thought he had something to tell me in private, but instead he attacked me. He really seemed like he had something to get off his chest and I can be a good listener so figured I help him out.", explained Henry.

"I can give a full statement later, my name is Henry Santos. My grandpa Ernesto has done some work for you guys and a few officers might know me. Ernesto's getting some treatment and I need to be there for him. The guy who attacked me has ran off now though, so not sure how much help I can be.", added Henry hoping to get out of this and just get to Ernesto to get him to safety.

"If you can remember what the man looked like, you'd be doing a lot in making sure we catch him later. Here- hold on for a moment, let me give you a look over before the EMTs get here." Alan spoke, silently realizing the opportunity to chase after that particular instrument of the dead had already vanished.

He holsters his gun, and takes out a small medical kit from one of the pockets of his coat. This time he wouldn't be leaving it behind in the glove compartment, not with how powerful these creatures tended to be.

If Henry allowed him, Alan would begin trying to treat the man's injuries, though there's little he can really do in these circumstances. While working, he also made an attempt to locate anything the creature may've 'left behind', for future forensic uses.

"It looks like the assailant got away," Angela says to whomever is listening. "Let's give the officer some room. Anyone get a good look at that creep?"

Assuming the crowd around the alleyway starts to disperse, Angela approaches the two men. "Is he okay?" She says to Alan.

Henry doesn't resist, but he also doesn't seem like he wants to hang around either. "I'm heading to a hospital now. I'll get patched up there. I've had worse anyway. That man just caught me by surprise.", begins Henry. "The biggest thing I can remember about him is that he had too much cologne on.", says Henry entering into the description of the man. He goes on to describe as best he can the mans appearance leaving out the bits of being undead. No use getting the cops involved with the supernatural. Not before he had a chance to try and talk reason into the creature to get them to change.

"I'm fine really. I have to go get my grandpa. You guys have my grandpas home number and my cell number somewhere. I don't mean to be rude, but Ernesto is going through some stuff and needs me right now. If you ant I can come by the station later after picking him up.", says Henry starting to try and head out. After getting Ernesto situated in a nice hotel, Henry had work to do. That creature would either come around or Henry would need to save it like he saved Tabitha.
