[D&D 3.5] A Dark And Stormy Knight

Post by Killian Graves »

This will be an introductory adventure. You are caught in a storm and need refuge. A small tower is all you have for a while. You being adventurous types, will obviously go crawling around in it

You are level 1. 32 point buy. Maxed starting gold.

Things not allowed: Any prepared caster class. That is all.

This will be a one shot, but if things go well, I can continue.

Being level one, I don't expect much, but some flavor will give us something to chew on. A small backstory. Some personal quirks. A driving goal.

That's the elevator pitch. What say you?

I'm interested. Sounds like the group would be acquainted with one another. Prepared casters are off table.. So that's most of them I think. Warlock, bard, sorcerer and ranger? Oh, and the caster archetypes (eldritch knight, etc)

Actually, since you're all headed the same way, the problem of knowing each other is negated. I'm not saying you can't know each other though!

Yeah, pretty much bard and sorcerer from the base handbook or SRD. Ranger and paladin prepare. There are other spontaneous casters throughout.

A list of Spontaneous Casters, off the top of my head

Bard
Beguiler
Dread Necromancer
Favored Soul
Hexblade
Shugenja
Sorcerer
Spellthief
Warmage

I've probably missed a few. Not to mention the other alternate magic systems (binders, incarnum, martial study, psionics, shadow, truenames)

Oh jeeze. I misread as 5e. Rangers are spontaneous in that one.

My 3.5 skills are quite rusty and dusty after 5e, pathfinder and starfinder.

Nah, I'll just need to do a little homework to brush up and figure out a character. On the plus side it'll probably be a fairly basic character mechanically.

How do you feel on psionic characters? I think the only books I still own are the psionic handbooks

I'm OK with it as long as you can hack it. Do note that the 3.5 version of psionics is called Expanded Psionics Handbook, and by extension Complete Psionics. The latter gets a bad rap.

I was thinking of using Soul Knife anyhow. Make a sort of Psylocke type rougish character. :)

With so many people playing 5.0 now, maybe running 3.5 is hurting interest?

It's not 5.0 specifically for me. I have probably forgotten more of 3.5 than I know of 5.0. (I wrote d20 material in the 3.x era of D&D.) And I don't see a good reason to revive those memories.

That's a fairly accurate statement of where I am with 3.5, lol.

I would be keen to add a rogue to the party, probably gnomish, just for a laugh. I assume basic races from PHB or are more exotic options allowed?
