Using an HP to downgrade exhausted to fatigued.
Jamie forces himself to move. Every muscle in his body aches. His ears pick up the sound of Rodney's voice. Jamie moved in that direction. Rodney would know how to get to the kitchen for weapons or get to the girls. Who were these attackers? Did they know he would be here or were they after Rodney for some reason? Was this attack related to the dissapearance of RJ? No time for answers now. Time to move to a better position.

Mel pulls back from her poistion at the door and runs to the otherside of the room. At the window he peaks around the edge of the walls and darts his eyes around the area in an effor tto take in a thorough view of the scene. There is no sign of Stronghold. No patrols. They don't try to hide. Being seen active and obvious is part of their purpose. A visible sign of strength and the martial forces ruling the city. Drones … aren't always so easy to see. For now Mel does not notice any. The street outside has little traffic. Only a trickle, but the cars that enter the area speed on through. Below the window there is no fire escape or balconies to travers. But there are throws of vegetation sprouting from portions of the wall, mingled with micro-solar panels. The plans are in an odd state of overgrowth and decay while the solar paneling covering exposed portions of the building's exterior wall are largely cracked and broken. Further down, at the street level, is an empty sidewalk. After her quick visual inspection of the world outside she withdraws and bolts to one of the beds, which she ducks behind for cover.

Outside Jamie follows the sound of Rodney's voice and the pounding of his feet as he blazed a running path through the apartment towards an unknown destination. In short order Jamie feels a sense of confinement as he notices light leaking out of a crack in a wall, or rather out from under a door. It didn't reveal much, but he could see something of the wall across from the door. There was a silhouette of Rodney ahead of her, fireman carrying Russel's limp body over one of his broad shoulders. Jamie and Rodney, even with the chemicals polluting their bodies and the weariness from their lack of sleep, had moved at great speed. Fast as Olympic athletes at their peak. It would have been amazing to witness, if anyone could see it. The door, and the potential for cover that came from getting behind it, was only feet away. They just needed …

Thff, thff, thff.

The barrage of darts aimed at the retreating teenagers was relentless. Up ahead of him Jamie can see Rodney runnning, running ... he takes a step forward and falls. There is a loud Wump! as the big guy hits the ground with Russel's weight on top of him. Rodney's body skids a few inches. He doesn't get up.

On the other side of the door Anika has been working with Maryanne to improvise a rope for the group's retreat out the window. Even from her positions hiding behind one of the two beds she heads the impact of Rodney and Russel hitting the grounds together, feet away from the bedroom door. Looking up from her work her eyes dart to the door, then Mel. When she speaks it is in a loud whisper.

"What was that?"

Jamie Kane
HP=1 Cond: Fatigued

Jamie followed Rodney as best he could with the unfamiliar terrain. Occasionally he hitbsomething with his foot or hit a piece of furniture with his body. Still, he kept going, his destination unknown but certainly safer than staying in the living room. Ahead was a glimmer of light peering from beneath a door. Was it the girls? Or had they been taken down already. The thought of Anika being taken by these thugs filled him with intense anger.

Perhaps it was that anger that distracted him from the relentless onslaught of darts. Up ahead, Rodney was hit and went down hard. Jamie felt more darts pierce his skin and struggled to shrug off the poison.

"What was that?"
Mel knew enough to know what that sound was. She had caused more than her fair share during the attack on the city. To anyone able to hear or see her, the fake happy teenage girl going crazy over finding her favorite teen music had vanished as if Jekyll had turned in Hyde. Her pose had become like a viper ready to strike. Calculating as if working out the angles and attack vectors, her eyes now looked around with a purpose. Even her movements shifted to focused and not a wasted action instead of the let's just party girl who had been at a party. "The boys. We need to go now.", is all Mel in an attempt to be low enough for Anika to hear her yet not be heard by the other side of the door.

"No obvious Stronghold signs. I will go down first while you finish the rope just in case they are waiting for us.", is all Mel says before reaching out her arm and dropping the scissors on the bed as close to Anika as she could. Next, her eyes darted around for a pillow, spare clothes, anything to blunt the force of jumping through a window really. Item secured, she thinks back to her training. Just jump. Don't think. Let your body and muscle memory take over., ran through her head as she ran out propelling herself through the window as it shattered under the surprising amount of fore she can muster against it.

Flying through the air, Mel let her body do its thing. Before she had mats or nets to blunt her fall, but her was the street. If she messed up, the worst that would happen was disappointment by her trainers and teammates. Now it was life or death. Worse yet, as her body twisted in the air making a tight spin, she didn't know fully what awaited her. For all she knew, drones could be all over the area with all cameras trained on the apartment. It was worth it though. Go down fighting was her preferred method that had been drilled into her. Hopefully landing safely, she makes her way to the best cover she can find to hopefully hide from any watchful eyes as she waits.

Mel takes her running start and launches herself out the window. Glass shatters, tinkling to the ground or flying out into the world beyond with her, linting into stay motes of light. For a moment Mel knew what it was like to fly. Then she hit the ground, the impact dampened by his pillow, and she rolled to bleed off the momentum, then used that momentum to help her rise to her feet. Pillow discarded she sprints away from the sidewalk and into the darkness of an alleyway. Hiding around the corner of a dumpster she watches for signs of drones and she watches the window.

… and she waits. Seconds feel like minutes. She has no idea what is going on inside. What will become of those people she left behind. She left them behind. Saved herself, but left five of her teenage companions behind. Mel was trained in a unit that was more like a family to her. You didn't leave people behind. Who knew what would happen to them, and the Foster family. While these and other thoughts were threatening to worm their way past her soldier's training and combat mindset, she saw movement at the window. A length of blankets was tossed out the window and one by one Maryanne and Anika descended it's length. Maryanne was first, and she stood watch at the base while Anika made her descent. Once Anika had touched down on the ground the two girls spoke, then separated. Anika moved towards the alley Mel was in while Maryanne walked down the sidewalk in the opposite direction.

Anika walked right past Mel, not noticing the stealthy young woman. Moving amidst the shadows Anika seemed to be looking for something, skirting the perimeter of the building and heading down the alley, towards the back of the building.

Despite having the interests of a teen girl, Mels mind also housed a finely honed weapon of war. Not an expert in tactics on par with the some other people, she still knew enough to know that if she ran any hope of seeing her sister would be dashed. If whoever was attacking, probably not Stronghold from the lack of obvious presence, used non lethal weaponry to subdue the teens and family it meant they might have taken Becky. Even if they didn't, Jaime and Rodney had information. Russel also seemed like the sort who would know something useful. Plus, she couldn't just leave them there. One could only run for so long before you needed to fight, at the right times of course. Now seemed as right as any.

Climbing back up was foolish. The assailants had to leave in some fashion though. If not Stronghold, leaving through the front with bodies would draw the attention of Stronghold. Someone jumping out of a window with two others climbing out was bound to draw some attention if even by passing motorists. Anika seemed to have the right idea. Go in a back way. From there, she could maybe catch them by surprise. Being on the streets afforded her more weapon choices than being in a bedroom. Picking up the most suitable object like a stone, piece of metal debris, or something. Mel takes a moment to think. Even tired, she was faster than most, so wasn't worried about catching up to Anika.

It was almost like her war games, except this was real. Outnumbered, in hostile territory, and possibly hunted her objective was to save her team. The opponent was still on the move, which gave her the advantage. On the street was her ground. One of the principles drilled into her between boy bands and dance parties was whoever chose the ground had an advantage. Plus, she had plenty of places to hide.

Mel stood next to a dumpster and had her choice of discarded refuse for weapons. There was even a toaster oven with a cord. It made for a bludgeoning weapon with some reach. Some canned food lids, removed from their cans, would serve as lethal throwing disks in Mel's hands. It was enough for her retaliation effort, if she worked it right. Range and melee options. But she'd also need help. Maryanne had went her own way, it seemed, while Anika remained. She was searching. With the boys subdued and Maryanne departing, Anika was the only ally she had left.

Mel's training told her the best place to strike the enemy who had inserted into a friendly occupied building was the exfiltration site. Take out a, likely lightly guarded, transport, and surprise them when they think they're just about in the clear. Their guard would be down and, in this instance they might be carrying captives. Which meant they'd be burdened by that extra weight. The possible exfiltration routes were air lift from the roof, into the sewers and underground via some unknown to her passage, the front door, the alleys, and the back of the building. One and two she could do nothing about. Mel had already ruled out the front as an option. It would draw too much attention. So the front was out. That left the two alleys and the back of the building … and Mel could tell there were no vehicles in the alley she currently occupied.

She also realized that she was on a clock now. She'd jump out of a window onto a sidewalk. Two other teenagers had climbed down from a blanket crafted rope. This was going to bring a response from Stronghold eventually … and whatever she did she had to do it before the enemy force stowed their captives away and drove off. She wouldn't be able to keep up with a vehicle. Mel also knew she did not have the investigative skill to track these people once they were away.

Mel knew what she had to do and what to risk. Anika was already heading the way she needed to go, so it wasn't out of her way. Ducking out of hiding, Mel gets close enough to Anika to whisper. "Anika! Wait. I have an idea, but I'll need your help to get the boys free.", whispers Mel. Once close enough and pulling Anika aside out of obvious view for a moment, Mel continues her plan. "Their point of egress is likely the back in a vehicle most likely unless they have an air vehicle on the roof. If we can take out whoever is guarding the escape route, we might be able to take out the enemy as they leave carrying the boys. We might even be able to take their transport too. ", says Mel.

Regardless if Anika decides to go along, Mel ducks back into the alley and tries to get as close as she can to scope out the back. Once getting line of sight, her training kicked in. Hide, scope, and pounce or quick attack if she made a mistake. While good, she knew that she wasn't always perfect. So, her trainers had made sure to install in her that sometimes it was ok to just go for it.
I apologize for the brevity. Bit tired still, but didn't want to hold the game up.

When Mel gets closer to Anika she notes that the bronze haired youth has a backpack on, and poking out of it are a pair of metal arcs. Something that looks like a cross between kukri and boomerangs with sharp pointed ends. Her initial response to Mel's sudden appearance is to reach back for one of the weapons. Though she stops herself from drawing it at the realization of she had just slipped out of the shadows to confront her.

"I'm with you. We shouldn't use their vehicle though. It could have a tracker. Maryanne went to get us a ride anyway."

After their brief exchange Mel and Anika advance towards the back of the building. As they near the corner Anika stays back while Mel takes a look. Her quick visual scan of the area notes three white transport vans. Civilian models. Each of them is facing away from the building, with their back doors towards ready to quickly receive passengers. Each of them has a drivers, and they are all relatively close. Close enough for Mel to move in and make a blitz attack if she needed to. It is while she is sizing up the situation that she notices a face in the side view mirror of one of the vans spare into it intently, then begin to reach for something. She'd been noticed!

Mel rushes in with her toaster and manages to pummel two of the drivers on the run before the third wards her off. He has a small caliber pistol with a suppressor drawn and aimed at Mel. His mouth begins to opens to utter some warning. Then a spiked boomerang lodges itself in his forehead . His head jerks back and his gun hand falls. Blood begins to well around the room. If Mel were to glance back she'd see Anika at the corner, drawing the second boomerang. After the brief flurry of violence the space goes quiet … and the girls are left with three vehicles and three dead bodies. Mel would also note that these people aren't dressed up in combat gear. They're wearing civilian garb. Maybe with undercover vest. They are meant to blend in.
OOC wrote:The three drivers are Minions. I'll let Mel and Anika get their actions in first rather than roll Initiative for this.

Mel is able to take out two, her Takedown 2 kicking in. The third is able to weather her toaster attack. Describe for me how you take out these two men.

Anika's boomerang attack takes out the third driver. Which is good, because if the drivers survived and was able to act, he'd send a message out to the people still in the building.

Turns out, this was one of those times where she didn't see a can attracting the attention of one of the drivers. Now was the moment of action. Tired as she was and in need of sleep, Mel started swinging the toaster like a mace with the cord as a flimsy handle and toaster side as the spikey bit that had blunted over the years. Using the momentum from the swinging, Mel rushes forward extending her arms such that the toaster slams into the first first drivers head. Pushing forward, she does the same trick with the second driver who similarly falls over. Her third time was not the charm. This time the driver ducks as the toaster slams into the seat. Before she met her end though, the driver met his.

Whoever these people were, they didn't seem like Stronghold. Another faction operating in the city? Mel wasn't the best as intel, but it made sense with Imperator gone and Stronghold not in firm control yet there would be a power vacuum of some sort. Collecting teens, kids, and maybe families though? This was beyond Mel. What she did know was that the bodies had to be hid and ambush prepared. "Help me get the bodies to damage to passed as still alive under some trash or cover. They will be expecting to see some drivers, so whoever looks ok should be in the driver seat. We don't have much time.", asked Mel of Anika as if she was asking for another piece of cake. Something about her voice was frightening in it being void of concern after killing two people.

As Mel worked with Anika to hide the bodies under some metal debris no yet cleaned up, she swiped a radio to listen in on the channel. Motioning to Anika to grab one as well, she positions herself behind some cover to jump out at the assailants as they left the building. Mel didn't know Anika's disguise skills, so she didn't bother trying to tell Anika how to wait either quickly disguised as a driver or in hiding. "I don't know how many there were, but our best chance is to take them out as they leave.", says Mel before getting ready to attack. She kept her ears open over the radio to know when it was a good time to jump out.
Stealth 28 since she isn't terribly good at deception so her best bet is to hide in wait.
Also, the force of a swinging toaster does unknown damage to a person from my knowledge, so I am not sure if the deceased would be valid dummies.

Anika did not help Mel right away. Instead she stood watch for a minute, then moved amongst the three drivers. At each one she patted them down. Searched the interior of the vehicles. From all this effort she collected three light pistols, three knives, retrieved her boomerang, and removed a concealed vest from one of the drivers. The latter she put on over her pajama top, even though it was meant to be worn under clothes. Time being an issue, it wasn't worth the extra steps required to conceal the bit of armor. After her savaging gear from the enemy Anika finally moved to assist Mel in hiding the three copses outside of view. When Mel directs Anika to take one of the radio boxes from the drivers, Anika gives a single curt shake of the head.

"Useful as listening in might be, those could give away our location via sound or com-signal. I'm not holding onto one … and you better ditch your's as soon as you hear what you need to."

Now holding a silenced pistol in each hand Anika returns to the corner of the building from which she had sprung her attack on the driver earlier. Her back to the corner she holds her weapons vertical and takes a calming breath to prepare herself for what was to come.

From her hiding spot Mel listens in on the radio intents on getting some kind of useful intelligence on the enemy force. From what she can tell, Mel isn't receiving all the communications from inside the building. There seem to be three separate groups, each operating on a different channel, and then this fourth channel that appears to be meant for operation wide messages. The three teams are operating under the names Poison, Toxin, and Venom. A person with the callsign Toxin One sounds like they are in command of the assault. After a couple minutes of waiting Mel's radios receives a message from Venom team that they're moving to exfiltrate with their package. They request a callback after no acknowledgement is given. The driver's can't respond. The radio channel goes quiet.

A couple minutes later Mel sees eight figures in dark shaded urban camo exit the back of the building. They're all clad in military grade armor vests and helmets. Each has a half-face gas mask, and a set of night vision goggles. Their weapons are raised, on guard, and they move from the door in a strike team formation, each one covering the other and one in back attaching their rear. Their weapons are familiar. While Mel was not trained for use with Hadron-tech military weapons, she knows what they look like. The rifles they carry are sleek with rounded corners. They're dart guns, used for in situations where silence is preferred over raw firepower. While there were many types of chemical concoctions the darts could inject into their targets, they were able to penetrate even the Hard Suit body armor used by Imperator's forces. Like most military equipment made in Hadron City, they were certain be to bio-locked to a specific user, or group of users.

At the center of the eight man formation, two carried limp bodies. Jamie and Russel. Mel moved to attack, breaking from her place of concealment. But the armed men and women were on guard, and those at the lead brought their weapons to bear on her. Primed to attack. In time with Mel Anika turned and brought one of he guns down to draw a bead on one of the people intent on abducting her boyfriend. Raising her voice she called out:

"For Imperator and the First Generation!"

Dreamless sleep. That is what Jamie and Russel experienced. But something in them fought against the darkness and dying of the light. No matter what anyone said, they weren't like everyone else. They were of the First Generation. They had a destiny, handcrafted by Imperator. The future was theirs. No one could steal that from them. Not if they fought. Not if they took it back. Memories and emotions push at the darkness. Body and will struggle against the chemicals used to subdue them. Then they heard a voice shouting a battlecry. They knew that voice. It was Anika!
OOC wrote:Jamie and Russel each get 1 HP for having been incapacitated in the previous scene. Jamie gets an additional 1 HP due to Anika being in danger.

Jamie and Russel may now make a DC 17 Fort or Will save to regain Consciousness. Alternatively they may spend 1 HP to automatically wake up. If you spend the HP, for the duration of this combat you have you Exhausted/Fatigue Condition removed. Afterwards you'll be Exhausted again.

Even though Mel is sneaky, the Antagonists are on guard because they have not received a return call from the drivers and they note their absence from the vehicles on exiting the building. There will be no surprise round. Everyone who is Conscious make an Initiative roll.

Mel may also take any of the Equipment Anika looted (knives, light pistols, weird metal boomerangs) to use for herself.

You mentioned the dart guns are rifles, do they, specifically the ones carrying the unconscious teens, also have light pistol sidearms? Hip holster?
How are they carrying the unconscious? Fireman's carryover a shoulder, upperbody and arms draped down over the back? Do we count as having been Grabbed?
Russel roused quickly but didn't let himself jerk awake despite the tense situation that resulted in his unconsciousness. He took in the sensation of bruising from multiple impacts and from the ungentle method of carry*. He heard multiple feet around him just beginning the disciplined maneuvers of battle. He opens his eyes to see at least the person he was being carried by.

I'll wait to hear specifics about what he perceives, how he's being carried, etc.

Jamie's mind rebelled against his body. His mind screamed wake up but his body wanted to sleep. Precious needed sleep. His mind tried desperately to get his body to respond.
Fortitude check: 1d20+6: 11 [1d20=5]
Yuck!
He remained peacefully asleep. Oddly, he didn't dream but that was okay as long as he got some much needed sleep. After all, his previous rest had been rudely interrupted by intruders. Jamie's mind resisted. Subconsciously he knew this wasn't right, that this wasn't natural sleep. He heard a voice in the darkness. Someone was shouting! It sounded like Anika! Was she in danger? Was she yelling at him to get out of bed? It mattered little the reason. Based on experience, he knew it was futile to ignore her.
Using an HP for reroll: 1d20+6: 19 [1d20=13]
Yeah! Now down to 2 HP and no longer unconscious.
Jamie opened his eyes just a hair. Enough to see the ground and deduce he was being carried. He quickly recalled thevattack in the apartment and that the kid Russel had been taken down. How many others had been captured? Having been highly trained in unarmed combat, he started to formulate a plan.

Jamie and Russel roused in the dim lighting of the space between buildings. Sizing up their current situation. Dangling over the shoulders of strong men geared for combat. Miltiary grade. Stolen Hadron-tech rifles, modern though contemporary pistols and knives at their sides. Their armored chest chests showing a similar sign of backwards sophistication. Quality for the Old World. Antiquated by Hadron City's standards. Those around the men carrying them moved in formation to defend against an oncoming threat.

To the side each of them could see Anika with a light armored vest over and a pistol aimed at the group of enemy combatants, her body partial concealed by cover. Mel silently rushed out of her hiding place, bloody toaster in one hand ... or had it been discarded in favor of something else by now? Regardless, she was on them in an instant. Moving faster than anyone had a right to move.

Patient, Mel finally hears the words. She was hoping that they would come out assuming everything was hunky dory, but her specialty was never fooling people. Arnold and Becky usually worked out the trickery bits. Mel just specialized int he jumping out and surprising people. So, she didn't say anything when Anika looted the corpses. Instead, she made sure to get one of the pistols and the boomerang that had killed the driver with the blood still on it. While waiting, Mel had readied the pistol in one hand and boomerang in the other while holding on to the toaster still. It wouldn't work terribly well for much longer, but despite not being terribly good at psychology Mel knew a busted toaster covered in blood, bloodied metallic boomerang, and pistol made for nice shock value. She was going to need all she could get given the three teams she had heard over the radio.

Rushing out from hiding with toaster spinning in the air above her, boomerang in hand, and pistol out she looked like a mad woman. To the trained eye though, all her movements had precision. No action was wasted and each breathe was almost calculated to expel and inhale at the right times. As she got closer, she loosened her grip just enough for the toaster coord to fly out of her hand and slam into one of the walls. It had served its purpose with the dripping blood of the drivers still on it.

Once closing with the soldiers, she knew it was a big risk. She knew staying in for the long fight was a losing proposition. Also, she knew she had to make an opening for the others to get out. Formations were great for war as they allowed troops to do things like concentrate fire, cover various angles, and in general do tactical movement. Like the cavalry of old or viking berserkers, formations could also be broken. If the boys were going to have any chance of escape though, they needed the formation broken. To that end, Mel danced with the metal boomerang whooshing through the air. Anyone who had seen her during the party would recognize some of the moves that were now being used in an attempt to weapon fire as she slammed into the soldiers with the weapon never meant for blunt force at close range. "Run! Get out of here!", screamed Mel hoping to make enough room to actually run.
Free action: Let go of toaster coord as its momentum is carrying it in the general direction away from allies. No specific target.
Move: Rush the formation.
Standard: Take 10 and using Takedown 2 for DC19+1 if boomerang gives any damage bonus to break the formation enough for the boys to get out.
