The Lock. That was potentially more territory than anywhere land bound. Imperious took a short span to consider that. Then he recalled the time. He had initially called the meeting for an urgant issue that people needed to be made aware of. The meeting had developed into more and he had failed to keep in mind the time of day. It was easy to forget about rest when you rarely tired. Lifting his left hand he motioned to Mr. Ashcroft.

"It is late and I am taking time away from your rest. I will take no more tonight. Let me know if you learn anything, or should new developments arise."

"Let's see if they try to make contact with the cybermagus."

… Imperious said aloud once Ashcroft had left the room. He listened after that, extending his and Shi'Halal's shared audio senses. Rising from his seated position he moved to exit the war room, and made his way to Bastion's walls were he stood vigilant. Throughout his trek he listened. Keeping an ear tune for the familiar voices of the medical staff, as he tried to pick up on any conversation they held amongst themselves after the meeting.
OOC wrote:I have a series of things for Imperious to do. First, he's going to spend about an hour on the wall, listening. Part of this is to monitor the surroundings. But it is also an effort to eavesdrop on members of the medical staff in case they say something of note or try to contact the cybermagus. Here is a roll with no modifiers, Notice is +12 while Search would be +2: Try to hear medical staff: 1d20 3

For reference, Imperious will be using Normal Hearing Extended x5 and Ultra Hearing Extended x4.

If nothing come of his attempted eavesdropping, and nothing else draws his attention, Imperious will leave Bastion and go on patrol. Moving further and further away from Bastion in an increasingly wider radius. Should nothing grab his attention before his patrol reaches the Locked Sea, Imperious will do some exploration of the Lock. Looking for areas that my serve as a place to operate out of.

Search: 1d20+2 4
Imperious stalked the walls that shielded Bastion for close to an hour. Listening inwards, for the voices of the medical staff, and outwards for external dangers. The hour came and went. Unless there were some actionable information gleaned from his eavesdropping Imperious would take to the sky and begin heading away from the walled settlement. Be began a lengthy, circular, patrol of the areas around Bastion. Moving further and further afield with each rotation, his senses looking for signs of danger, or those in danger, until he reached what was once the coast.

From his place in the sky he looked to the mess of ruin, and inspected it with an eye towards looking for hidden places, or construction that might serve as not just a dwelling, but service the needs of a scientific mind with prisoners.

OOC: With a 3, you hear nothing of substance from the medical staff.

As to the survey, make a Search check.

Imperious’ survey out over the coastal regions of the Locked Sea certainly bring up interesting vistas, but also confusing, directionless carnage: trains half-submerged in shattered vaults, mini-seas surging with electricity, even after all these millennia, even vast xenogen animals trundling to and fro, like prehistoric behemoths.

While he doesn’t find what he’s looking for, Imperious DOES find one thing—-though it bears any relevance to his survey remains in question: a recently refurbished compound, bearing the insignia of the legendary Tempestineers, that appears to have been hastily abandoned within the last few days. It still has functioning lights, and, with his superhuman senses, Imperious can see it even has functioning air conditioning!

While Imperious did not bear the Tempestineers any fondness, their presence in the area was noteworthy. As was a restored compound that had been abandoned. Slowing, then stopping in flight. Before descending he takes stock of the area around the compound, noting the environment and dangerious that might be present. Then he lowered himself to the ground and approached the entrance to the compound.

OOC:
How far is it from Bastion? I’d say fifty or so miles.
The Tempestineer structure appears to be more-or-less still completely functional: definite attempts to make it habitable for human beings was made.

The compound consisted of three buildings, one extremely large, the other two rather small and unassuming.

The larger building was cube-shaped, with the ‘infinity’ symbol used by the Tempestineers proudly emblazoned on one side. This structure had virtually no damage to it: indeed, it still had functioning air conditioning and a fully-stocked medlab! There was a chamber Imperious reckoned was a war room; three rooms with two bunk beds each; a closet-sized room with communication equipment; and a mess hall. The building appeared to have been hastily evacuated, and, with the 3x epitome of the medlab, very little to salvage yet remained.

Of the two smaller edifices, one was a power-generator, containing a small fusion reactor running at fully optimal performance, the other building being a stable for three Tempestineer Mounts.

Nothing living yet remained...but no corpses, either.

After taking a tour of the faciluties Imperious stopped in the hallway outside the medical laboritory. Not just an infirmary. Was this a research outpost? Looking at the equipment in the medlab he took stock of what was there before moving. Before messing around with something that may still be tied to other parties, he felt it best to try to make contact with someone from the organization, and there was a communication system present at the compound.

"Given the state of things … I wonder if there was some manner of viral or bacterial contamination."

He spoke aloud while enroute to the communications close/room. There he took stock of the communications device and looked for indicators as to which channels were open to other Tempestineers before trying to make contact with someone from the organization.

A comm line opens up, but it sounds as if it’s being intercepted between four OTHER locations:
Voice One (male): “...in, everybody.
Voice Two (male): “Here.
Voice Three (male): “Here...barely.
Voice Four (female): “”I’m here, too.
Voice One: “Give me a sitrep.
Voice Two: “All clear.
Voice Three: “Same here.
Voice Four: “David isn’t answering. No sign of attack. Orders?
Voice One: “Inves—-
Voice Three: “Ears! Ears!
Then the lines go dead.

Imperious listened to the check in, somewhat surprise that he was able to find a conversation rather than connecting to a presently used like. He was about to interject into the conversation when the line went dead. Behind Shi'Halal's protective armoring his lips curved downwards into an irriated frown. Still, he decided to try the line. Maybe someone was keeping tabs on it.

"This is callsign Imperious. I am at the Tempestineer compound at coordinates [insert GPS coordinate]. The facility appears to have been abandoned recently and in a hurry. Do your people require assistance?"

Voice Four speaks, while the others remain silent: “Imperious? Ok. Ok. Are there bodies? Has the base been abandoned? Is it under attack?

"There is no structural damage to the buildings or equipment that I have seen. Likewise no sign of a conflict and I did not notice any hostile force on my way here. The residents and their mounts are gone. No bodies. I do not know the facilities' intended inventory, however the medical laboratory at least looks well stocked from a cursory glance."

A pause followed as he considers the lack of information the other people seemed to have had. Questions rolled around the interior of his skull, but he started simple.

"Do you know anything of the situation? Was a distress message broadcast?"

Voice Four: “We’re on our way, whoever you are. We’ve given you fair warning. If you’re an enemy to humanity, you might want to haul ass now. If not, stay where you are. Make no sudden moves, and maybe, just MAYBE, we can talk like reasonable people instead of bashing each others’ heads in. Over and out.

Then the line went dead.

A slow shake of the head is given following the return message.

"Tempestineers ..."

With the line dead Imperious turned off the communications equipment and closed up the little closet of a room. With that done Imperious decided to see if the compound's resident equipment and object wanted to share anything about what happened. Starting with the stables. That was likely the most recent location he could be assured that the Tempestineers had been.

"Hello. The humans that kept their animal companions in this place have departed. Do an of you know what caused them to leave, where they came or went from?"

… so Imperious began to question the objects therein about the disposition of the Tempestineers and what they may have been doing or talking about. Where they came from as well. If he was able to determine where the Tempestineers came form, he could backtrack their trail, looking for more items to seek answers from. Moving from location to location until he reached a dead end or the promised arrival of more Tempestineers.
