Aldan

Aldan's eyes light up to see the map. "A few questions if I may..." his spectral hand floats over to the map to point where his questions pertain. "I see large buildings here [#6] and here [#25]. Would those be inns? Also, there seems to be a structure nestled among the trees [#27]. What is that? A pagan shrine to the olde gods, perhaps?" because Aldan would totally put a pagan shrine to the olde gods there.
It would be a fae shrine, recently defiled prompting the folke of the foreste to retaliate with changeling replicas and foul, smith-insane-making magics.

"Yes, that's the Golden Grain and the Boozy Badger," He nods.

"As for there," He taps on the site to the west (#27), "It might have been a druid's circle a few hundred years ago. Now it's just a lot of old trees and a shack that old hermit is living in."

Zakarias shakes his head, "If anybody worships anything other than Merikka it's done in the privacy of their own home."

"Seeing as almost everybody here owns farms, or tends to some kind of plant it shouldn't be too surprising that most of the folk worship the goddess of agriculture," He points to the large temple you saw on the way in, "This is the only church in town."

Aldan

Aldan looks to his companions, "Well, I would like to talk to my kinsmen, the elves, especially with them being so close. I'd also like to inspect the abandoned inn in the daylight so we can see if it will suit as a waystation and offices for the Trading Company*. Both those are relatively nearby. We could then return here to get an escort and introduction to the town elder. If it's nearing dinner by then we can get to an inn, not sure which yet, for a meal, conversation, and maybe rooms. I also admit that talking to a possibly druidic hermit might offer an... alternate viewpoint on the town that my report would be more complete for the inclusion." he smiles.

*Aldan surreptitiously watches again to see if there's any reaction from the mayor, his wife, or the guard when he says he will inspect the abandoned inn. There was a lack of reaction from the mayor and his wife previously, but the guard wasn't visible in the room when Aldan mentioned it last time.

Aldan turns to the Mayor, "Though I should ask, does the Temple have religious services on a set time, say like dusk everyday that might interfere with our timeline for the day? Or do they stick to a day-of-the-week morning service schedule? If so, when? I've never been to a devotional of the Human Goddess of Agriculture, might be interesting if it'd be open to outsiders." he says.

"Likewise, as the Trading Company's advisers and guides, is there anything you all would be of particular interest to see.
" Aldan asks his companions. A little tension creeps into his mouth as he says, "And though I would *hate* to go separate ways while here I can understand if you wish not to be tied to an agenda."
"Something pithy this way comes."

"I think we should secure lodgings and stow our luggage, so the Inn. Might be a good place to ask about Ailla. " Jessica replied adjusting her back pack.

"They maintain services on the day of rest, though they tend to close those during the harvest to travel around," Zakarias says.

"Though their doors are always open," Karia smiles.

"Unless you come by at night, then the bar the door to the courtyard and pretend you're not there," Travers grunts.

"Oh come now, everybody's barring their doors at night," Karia says.

Travers just frowns in response.

Aldan

"A couple of last questions..., when we go to the church who in specific should we speak with?" He directs the question equidistant between the Mayor and the Guard.

"And what is this hermit's name?" He asks toward the Mayor, Zacharias, his floating hand gesturing at the former druid's circle.

"Then we can leave you to your day...," he looks to the religious members of the group that evinced a preference, "though it's not yet high sun and we'll be retracing our steps somewhat, we can get lodging and maybe lunch in one of the inns. The Golden Grain is closer but the Master and Mistress of this house made a compelling case for The Badger. We'll have to sort that out, maybe lunch at one then lodging at the other."

"Perhaps we can return later this way to speak to the elves and to get one of you to make introductions to the elder.

"Well, the higher ups at the church would be Priestess Devi and Elder Abramo," Zacharias says.

"I'm afraid I don't really know. He's been around for quite some time, but he's never involved himself in the town."

"We-"

"That would be lovely!" Karia says cheerfully, then lifts the teapot, "More tea?"

"Not for me, thank you." Aldan says refusing more tea. "In fact, if there are no other specific questions we have a full day ahead of us." Aldan looks to his companions to see if there are other questions for the mayor, his wife, or their guard.

If not, he'll see about bundling the group on their way.

*************************************

Outside as they walk Aldan would lay out a plan.

"We are closer to the Golden Grain, but what I'd like to do is this: I feel like the Foaming Mug, the abandoned inn we passed by the blacksmith shop, is the biggest empty space in the town, if there is nefarious happenings or people being kidnapped and stashed it would likely be there, but someone's got to know of it. If some of us go in to the Golden Grain and I announce my intention to inspect the building as a possible site for the new business interests that'll make someone nervous. That person would try to sneak out the back and head toward the abandoned inn to move whatever nefariousness is happening. If we could have a couple people hidden outside watching for this, then, when and if they see the person, give a signal for the inside folk - sunlight reflected from a mirror, through a window, flashed briefly thrice on an inside wall, for example, then we inside could find a graceful and un-suspicious exit and, as a group, we can follow the sneaker and maybe catch them 'red-handed', as the expression goes. If I'm wrong and no one in this inn is nefarious-minded we ask what questions we can and scope out whether we want to stay there tonight or try the Badger." Aldan holds up his steel mirror and catches the midday sun by way of demonstration.

"Thoughts?"

Zasio Blackthorn:
Objects of Interest: Goodberries (2 - each heals 4 hp)

Zasio remained quiet while Aldan handled the closing pleasantries with Zacharias and Karia, still preferring to allow the elf to be the one talking for the group at this point.

Once they were outside and Aldan ran through his thoughts on what the group's next action should be, Zasio considered the elf's points and found nothing objectionable in them. "It sounds like a feasible idea, I'll be one of the those who hide away outside watching."

Aldan

"You'll need to be as unseen as possible by whoever sneaks out to check the run-down inn. And if they get by you there's nothing to be done for that either but keep an eye out. Likewise, those of us inside will keep alert for anyone leaving soon after I make my intentions known. We'll try to find a way to extricate ourselves and then we can ALL go try to catch the bad guy." Aldan says, passing his signal mirror to Zasio.

"Just to remind both myself and Tyragorn wear chainmail, grace may not be a option. And since everyone is going to know, bandit bane here is looking for his sister in the next couple hours. I suggest we persue that line of inquiry and see if anyone reacts to that." Jessica replied making sure her chainmail jingled as she made her first point.
